This may or may not be a stupid question but do you think this technique could be modified and work with faux fur? I have a character Id love to make a suit out of one day and he's got a gradient mane with three colors. I don't know how well that might work with wig hair
I have sewed wefts directly into a fur base before, though i'm not sure what you mean by using fur instead of wig hair. you can try using brushed out yarn to create a more fur like appearance.
I'm trying to save money by making some of the wigs I need for different cosplays myself. Would you happen to know how much I would need to order to make one for Lucy from Elfen Lied? I know thats kind of a hard question. Sorry.
@@grinninggreen6750 I plan to make wigs as well. I know that finding colored hair in already wefted is not always easy and this method will allow you to custom color . I know this does not answer your question, just wanted to say we are on the same page. (WIGS)
Will help big time, If I were to practice enough do u think ide be able to do some hair that could go halfway down a fursuit? My main sona's hair just about touches the ground (she is on all fours normally), I'm planning to do halfway down instead of the whole way to the floor as I wanna make it as if she is just standing on her hind legs
I'm so happy to see that you explain your processes rather than keeping everything a trade secret. While I understand people wanting to keep things secret, it makes it difficult on others having issues in the beginning. Such an amazing tutorial, thanks so much! I'd like to ask what kind of stitch you used when sewing the wefts into the tail piece? And is the tail heavy with that much hair? It looks super lightweight. And btw, sis and I will be excited to see you at FWA this year!
I've been searching for long fur and this is great! The fibers with yarn fur is always too short and fabric furs are always super short so this is perfect! Thank you!
Thank you so much, I am in the process of making a King Wickerbeast and I couldn't figure out how I was going to make the mane, and this video is perfect !!! Thanks again.. :-)
Thank you do much this is the first actually good tutorial for hair/long fur! This Will be great for my fursuit :3 (Sorry if i said something wrong my english isn't very good)

Thank you for this amazing tutorial! Also thank you so much for the info on where to get this sort of material. After the pandemic is controlled I plan on trying my hand at costume making, and I will definitely consider this approach to making the hair effect! ^-^
I've done with method with yarn and dolls but was unsure how to do it on a bigger scale. Thanks so much! I'm hoping to make my own faun leggings that aren't bulky like how faux fur fabric is 😊
Thank you so much this video helped me with planning for my future fur suit I want to do. The character has long hair. I hope I can start on it in the next year or two. This video helps with my planning process
Hello ^^ I am currently making a fursuit of my own and am having trouble finding the best way to create a mohawk like hair for my maned dire wolf lycan. Is there any way you could share your knowledge, or point me in the right direction please?
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I have a couple questions if you don't mind! ^^' 1. Can this be airbrushed, dyed, or pastel(ed?)I am using the same hair you are using and I wanted an ombre effect (dye onto white hair) and if not how should I work around it? 2. Can there be any way to straighten this? (Like a horse's mane or like a silky dog) If not how can I make it less wavy(or textured) lol thank you and have a great day! P.S. if anyone would respond that would be terrific!
Great questions! 1) Yes! these are the same kind of fibers that many synthetic wigs are made of, so if you follow a book/tutorials about dying/coloring/styling cosplay wigs, that will work! Also, there are ombre fibers for sale in a wide range of colors. if you find the color you like then you can just buy that and don't have to worry about colors running or fading. 2) you can straighten them with a hair straightener. I like to use mine that has a dial to select a precise temperature. start low and then slowly increase the temp. Since these are plastic fibers, they will melt if you go too hot. You can also buy silky straight fibers to start with, I think the crinkle fibers with some straightening after looks the most natural
@@KazplayVideos thank you so much!! This is such a great help to my project! BTW your work is the best! (That head in he vid was AMAZING) Also I wanted to to the 'melts' they had in the shop but they didn't have the natural coloring I was looking for. I'll look for a dyeing and styling wigs book immediately! Thank you so much!!
@@realmisteroliver You can try layering from shorter hair to longer hair- having the shorter hair as one colour overlay and cover the longer hair which is your other colour. This could mock the gradient you're going for.
I really like your tutorials. I think you are very well spoken, and explain things clearly. One thing I dislike is the music you play in the background, because it's distracting, and it makes it hard to hear you. One thing I wish is that you'd have shown us the entire process of how you made your Hogger costume, even the bigger more difficult parts. I hope that for future costumes that you'll show the whole process. Thank you for your tutorials.
I have a video about that very topic! It's called "Latch Hooking fake Hair" there is also hair fibers you can buy that already have an ombre to them if you want the tips. Depending on the base color you choose, you can "dye" look up some cosplay wig tutorials for more info!
Have you successfully washed parts with the wafted hair, and if so how did you go about it? I’m hoping to use this for permanent long hair accents to a bodysuit, but worry about it getting tangled or destroyed in the washing machine. Any help much appreciated!
I have only hand washed them. if you want to make a suit that is machine washable, I would do a test first. or possibly plan to have the long hair removable.
i know this may sound silly, but can you do the same sewing by hand or is there a way where you dont have to use a sewing machine? i dont own a sewing machine and tend to do all of my work by hand.
I probably possible, but I would guess that it would not be worth it. If you don't have a sewing machine I recommend another video of mine, it is a different way to get similar results: ruclips.net/video/bgwRilOEV4w/видео.html
This is an amazing tutorial. I have a question tho, is this synthetic hair and if so what kind. It was my understanding that using a flat iron on synthetic hair would basically melt it? Pls help. I'm trying to add hair to some of my creatures and i tried yarn wefts but i can't get the length i want. Thank you
it will melt if your flat iron is at a high enough temperature, I had mine set very low and was moving it very quickly over the fibers. There are also higher quality fibers that can withstand higher temperatures for sale online
It's hard to troubleshoot from the info you gave, but here are some ideas : use less hair so the tape really holds it tightly. Some hair will come out and that's okay, use a brush to keep things neat. Make sure you do enough passes with the sewing machine to hold things secure - I used a double needle, if you don't have one double the passes you make. Make sure you seal the ends with glue to keep the weft together, it'll help minimize hairloss
I had a quick question. Can I use a Surger for the sewing portion? This is what we use making Christmas Stockings, Could be a stronger base? Your Video is so helpful and I cant wait to add my fur to my creature.
Thank you for the reply. again this is such a cool topic and the technics are so interesting. You are a great instructor. looking forward to more Goatman vids. Best of luck
