I saw this once on Top Of The Pops about forty years ago as a small child and thought they were singing "lobotomy". So I had been looking for a song called "lobotomy" since then! It's only because I was listening to Absolute 80's on the radio at 4am this morning I finally found out what's it called.
These guys were great live and extremely kind when I met them as a teen. Their tour manager gave me the shirt off his back, what a guy. The 80's were a great time to see bands and it was easy to meet them and every single one I met was very kind and friendly. Hope it's the same for kids today.
Reminds me of the Globetrotters S.C ,in the early 80s 😅😅😅😅 the style and a few of them had army green trousers with beer mats stitched on them, ahhhh memories!!!!!
I feel I can own up now and say I have this on 7" record. There doesn't seem to be much you can't find on youtube. What a great way to while a way your time! 80's nostalgia rules. Beat, the boxer beat, the boxer beat, do the boxer beat!!
This song reminds me of the olden Olympic Games when combat was first introduced like before our time boxing is the first ancient sport that began during the ancient tines when people would fight on the streets, It’s one of the oldest sports. As time went on other combat sports were introduced. Like kickboxing, wrestling, judo, karate and other sports.
i still love this song,..i remeber doing the stomping dace at all the parties and weddings!!! it takes me back to the worrieless eighties as a teen xxx
Loved these guys and I never knew the lead singer was American till a few minutes ago when I looked up the band on Wikipedia. I thought of them as being as thoroughly English as you can get.
Saw these guys supporting Madness in Glasgow Apollo the same week this single entered the charts. Watched them on John Craven’s Newsround just as I was leaving for the concert, no idea that I’d be seeing them a few hours later.
Me too.i saw them in sailsbury support for madness..and the video is the pie and mash shop in Chapel Street Market London been there with my dad a few times.my dad used to go there lots when he was growing up

@SuperSimonuk The Boxer boys used to run a second hand clothes stall to make ends meet while performing on the side and hail Dexys as a major influence on their music and image. My Grandad used to wear working boots, tank tops, braces and a flat cap. His street urchin look was inspired by the mines, Vivienne Westwood couldn't take much credit. watched these guys in a rugby/football club in cronulla ,australia in 83 , i had just moved out there ! the best years of music ever !! i got wrecked and slept in back of my dads van , threw up ! how ace! still do now at 51 x
jo bloody boxers,i have had this tune in and out of my head since it was made, you know,i will be doing something and the jo boxers will pop up in my bloody brain.......thankyou jo boxers for a total barmy song...love it.....
I too proudly sported my white laces..... and stood proudly with the Bredren in Mcr in the 80s. Reno in Moss Side, once they knew they knew,,,,, and Thanks.
Got a detention in school for inciting half the class to re-enact the cafe scene during R.E. with a substitute teacher. No school uniform, us lads had our Harrington jackets and Doc Marten's boots. Perfect for stomping this beat!
@@dennisbella7983 There was Top Of The Pops once a week, various other shows showed music videos, like saturday morning shows. c6green. I had the single on square 7" picture disc and the sleeve matched the record. I sold mine at a record fare and got £750:00 for it. I've still got a copy of the black round 7" version though.
