Lyrics:
Prince Charming
Prince Charming
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of
Don't you ever, don't you ever
Stop being dandy, showing me you're handsome
Don't you ever, don't you ever
Lower yourself, forgetting all your standards
Don't you ever, don't you ever
Lower yourself, forgetting all your standards - Видеоклипы
“Ridicule is nothing to be scared of.” I want that on a t shirt
Was lucky enough to be an extra on this vid. Had a great day shooting it on a hot August day, Will never forget it. Who knew it would become so iconic, Happy days.....
which girl?

Adam and the Ants, to me, were one of the best bands of the 80s. Brilliant!
Yeah. I agree, I am 70 now 😀🎉🇩🇪
my first song age 5! I used to kiss the album cover with him on it.
I thought he was the real Prince charming! 😂
'Ridicule is nothing to be scared of' - a lyric to live by
Amen!
And don’t you ever lower yourself, forgetting all your standards.

Hi JP through out my life I have often played this lyric in my head.
Kind regards Kate. 👱♀️💕💕
That is the motto of my life.
Absolutely. And now embraced enthusiastically by Boris Johnson.
Imagine being a ten and a half year old kid, a bit shy, a bit socially awkward (or 'weird' as we used to call it in the 80s) growing up in a shithole town in the north west of England, in a low income family with your dad out of work and your mum just about keeping things together with a part-time cleaning job, two years into Thatcher's demolition of the UK's social fabric, with seemingly the whole country reinforcing the message that you're nothing now and you will never be anything.
Then imagine how it felt to turn on the telly and see some super fucking cool, utterly beautiful man, dressed like a cross between a Regency dandy and a decadent pirate, tell you 'ridicule is nothing to be scared of'.
Cheers Adam.
I loved this as a kid. Seeing Diana Dors appearing through the light as fairy godmother is incredible and gives me chills.
Every time....❤
It's a brilliant track.
She’s a goddess❤
She was absolutely beautiful 🥰don’t make them like that anymore 😢
💜🧚♀️💜I love Diana Dors she's so beautiful 💜🧚♀️💜
Diana Dors is perfect casting❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Adam was a huge fan of hers.
She was a very beautiful and classy lady.
Fluck
I remember when this first came out "Ahhh-huh Ayrr-huh" was often heard throughout the school corridors.
Every time Adam Ant did anything in the early Eighties it was like a massive event! Everybody loved him :)
Also doing the Prince Charming dance poses during school break time!
You lot were lucky, I hit secondary school just around the time crazy frog came out, you can only imagine the torture going in in the corridors day in day out.

Adam Ant was way, way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of his time. He is an iconoclastic maverick genius.
+AntipodeanStar Depp stole his look, Keith Flint stole his swagger and look. This video still looks great all these years after.
+AntipodeanStar Iconoclasm isn't impressive.
late seventies/Early Eighties were great, g.g.grandchildren will know of this!
He wasn't ahead of his time, the times were ahead of their time! So much experimental music which has turned into mainstream came out of the era.
He was the first to make a movie-like video, with Stand and Deliver.
I stumbled across this last year and was like how did I a child of the 80's miss this one! Lol And love the message of the song and this needs to be played A LOT NOWADAYS
Adam and Diana Dors, both national treasures. My auntie's dog was in an episode of the Hammer House of Horror TV series with DD.
The one and only Diana Dors, still remembered in 2021. RIP in peace you are not forgotten thanks to ADAM AND THE ANTS.
This song is filled with fundamental rules of life. Ridicule nothing to be ashamed of, never lowering yourself and forgetting all your standards, respect yourself and all of those around you. He was ahead of his time
And if that fails chuck an alternator through the window.
Songs like this can help get through a tough day at work. Speaking from experience
I always wondered where he found that. He didn't find a rock or a brick, he found an alternator. Someone was driving home that night and their car just died halfway there.@@uv77mc85

Yes indeed; rules which in today's world, sadly, are all but forgotten.
Diana, bless her, looks so happy in this. RIP, Di.
His videos are absolutely epic. pure irony.
the guy had a good sense of humor
One of the last televised performances from Diana Dors. As a kid when she died I felt like I had lost my girlfriend. Bless you bless you so much Diana Dors.
She was great in The Sweeney.
Don't tread on an ant , he's done nothing to you..... love it and love the Kinks lyrics!
When you discover Adam and the ants at 12:51 am...I think I'm gonna stay up a while
Sarah Owens you'll never look back.
A year(-ish) later and how do you feel? I started listening to Adam and the Ants in 1982 and I'm still here.
Welcome to the "Ant Army".
2:51. Sleep can wait.
I ask if people saw a concert in a certain Jai Lai building and boom they saw them there. Awesome
How many genres are encapsulated in this ditty. Medieval Gourt music, Ennio Morricone, Burundi beat, 50s rock n roll. Pure genius.
Adam Ant - Happy 67th. Stuart Leslie Goddard 3 November 1954 Marylebone, London, England. You and Marco Pirroni. Really good songs..
Isn't Adam Ant a real Prince? What a beauty!! Had clothing like this in the 80's...
I think it was brilliant for them to give the great British icon Diana Dors this wonderful glamorous part in what was the twilight of her fantastic career (she passed away in 1984).
I know. She was a very classy and beautiful lady.
She was still friggin hot in this video, that cocky smirk of hers when she sachets onto the dance floor is so SEXY.
She was Stuart Goddard's (Adm Ant) God mother and he always wanted to get in one of his vids.
i thought she was someone famous
@Laurance Cross I know I worked for BUPA then and had to finalise her paperwork. Bit chocked but had to detach myself.
One of my favourite Ant songs enhanced by the absolutely fabulous Diana Dors 🥰
Marco on the harp…….priceless ❤
"Don't you ever lower yourself, forgetting all your standards."
❤
The LEGENDARY Diana Dors as the Fairy Godmother!
Gorgeous.....
When women were alowed to be natural. Oh.. were have those days gone
❤️
Nobody else could have played it better.
Kind of laughed it off at the time, but it's actually pretty bloody awesome and having Diana Dors was a touch of magic
I must have been about 10 & did not get it when it came out, didn't understand the appeal. One or 2 kids in my class were big fans. Now I think this song and video are incredibly powerful.
Still love this in 2024.
Im 68 loved the 80s and adam was fab
Hello, how are you doing it's nice meeting you here
He was, & still is, the Dandy Highwayman.
Due to weight I've put on during lockdown, I'm now following the Adam Ant diet. Don't chew ever, don't chew ever..

possibly one of the best british pop music videos EVER !
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as Adam & The Ants and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
We're in danger of losing that to mediocrity in today's pop culture, but we thank you. :)
ur very welcome "sicily". i had the privilage of being a teenager in g.b in the 80s, loved adam but also the smiths , cure, bauhaus etc
I could not agree more, Benedetto Bruno.
Those of us in the USA with any taste in music whatsoever feel exactly the same way as you do, Sicily! This garbage today has NOTHING on this stuff, NOTHING!
Prego
Nothing has ever been more '80s than this video. Love it!
I loved Adam Ant growing up, and this was one of my favourite videos with the iconic Diana Dors 'come here my lovely' This take me right back to my tweens!
It all looked so intimidating back in the day, but I got to like all this new romantic stuff, bring back this dandy highway man!
I fricking love my hometown of Columbus (Ohio!). Whilst window shopping in an alternative-funky cool side of town, this was playing overhead. Well naturally, I was seriously getting into it! Pretty soon I look over and a fabulous fellow Ant maniac started doing the dance with me!
We made $3!!! Lmao
honestly one of the best intros ever
Haven't heard this for years, what a classic song .
Fab video too!
Still here in 2024 ❤and luving it 😊
It’s 2023, this is my fav artist, I feel proud 😂
Me too in 2024, cheers 😂😂🍷🎉🇩🇪🥃
@burkhardraum As an original Antfan? I salute you 👍🏻
Adam Ant Forever
Diana doors looking fabulous so is adem what a legend love this dude
There was some goth dude serenading his girlfriend with this song at the local pub kareoke night the other day. It was fucking hilarious ( Not saying its a bad song, but the scene of superdracula singing this in his REALLY LOW SISTER OF MERCY VOICE in front of a bunch of really confused old geezers was amazing )
awwwwww!!! :-) I would have loved this!!
Lmfao that's hilarious
It sounds fantastic That no-one recorded it and posted it on RUclips must count as one of the greatest missed opportunities of this century.
Would love to have seen that fucking funny
Good for him, people often mock what they can’t or won’t understand.
Thus man is my first true live, he got me through teenage years and needs recognition 4 his fantastic being!
And Diana Dors !
Thank u 💓 Stewart Leslie Goddard 💖 💓 😘 Mr ADam of the Ants 🐜 💖 ❤️
What on earth is good ol' Di Dors doing in this video?😂😂😂
This song teaches a very important lesson, you cant be insecure about yourself, if you worry about what jerks think, your going to have a very miserable life.
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of.
"We don't care what they think, darling! Ridicule is nothing to be scared of!"
I thank Absolutely Fabulous for prominently using this song, as I might never have discovered it and it's meaning.
I was never a huge fan of AbFab, but I thought it was pretty cool of them to use this song. I also like that they used Wheel on Fire for their theme song. I know Siouxsie and the Banshees wasn't the first band to perform the song, but it is one of my favorite songs they play.
Don't you ever, don't you ever
Stop being dandy, showing me you're handsome
Adam ant...and the iconic Diana Dors, Britains answer to Marilyn Monroe...a match made in heaven in an 80's anthem! What more could you ask for 🤩😍
Thank-you, I thought that was her, poor lady she would have died not too long after this. She died really young in her early 50's as I recall. Cancer is such a horrid disease.
@@canucklehead0 She died way too soon, but she crammed several lifetimes into her short life.
And for a while Marilyn Monroe was actually compared to her.
Anyone listening to this in 2021?? I was only just 15 years old then this song first came out back in 1981. Still love this video 40 years on.❤💯 RIP to British legend actress Diana Dors.🙏🙏
Listening to this in 2022- Antmusic is still awesome!
The only band in music history that couldn't be copied or imitated. One and only original. Ant fan for life.
im 19 and my dad is literally 80s fanatic, knows everything about everything haha it scares me sometimes and i now know why i wish i was around to enjoy the 80s decade of music
It was fun Chris. Especially dressing up for nights out. We felt free to do what we wanted. Check out the tunes on my g+
He unfortunately died on november 15th 2015
nothing ever stopped anyone from enjoying music that first happened before they happened ❤️
Sorry about your dad :(
My father showed me this song when I was a child...
God, I still love Adam.
Vevo, you're supposed to be a professional music service - and this is the sound quality you bring us?!
I remember they used to premier their promo videos on Top of the Pops and everyone used to stay in and watch their brand new videos.
He was the 80s Ziggy Stardust.
The percussive, tribal rhythm has always been one of the band's hallmarks and it's put to good use here. Catchy and compelling track and a good music vid from MTV's early days.
Pride, Courage, Humor, FLAIR.
He’s so beautiful ❤
I loved this so much! I was a huge Adam and the Ants fan. This epitomises my early teen years. Yes, I'm 56. So what? Ridicule is nothing to be scared of.
I adore Adam Ant. He was truly an original. Talented and magnetic. It's hard to take one's eyes away from Adam. Unplug the jukebox and do us all a favor. Thank you UK for one handsome, rocking Scorpio. He worked it and we were all digging his moves and sound.
Ricky Raven awesome comment !! Couldn't agree more 🐜💙
I was lucky enough to interview Adam Ant a couple of times. Here's a bit of audio
He has like 5 or 6 planets in Scorpio. That's where that intense magnetism comes from.
I "unplugged the jukebox" decades ago!
He'll be in concert at The Fillmore on Miami Beach on Oct 1, 2019.
He's still cool.
I saw him live a few years ago with his fake sideburns, no crowd presence and was late onto the stage... still thoroughly enjoyed him though, he did his hip shake once or twice was enough for me lol

Hello, how are you doing it's nice meeting you here
This is my favourite music video ever. It's so strange and perfect!! I love my parents so much for making me listen to 80s music from an early age. Young Adam Ant was my first celebrity crush, I mean just look at this perfection 😍
My life, he’s beautiful 😍 The utterly fabulous Diana Dors is an added treat in this video.
BEST. DANCE. EVER!
I LOVE this song soooo much! I watched the documentary about Adam and his Bipolar disorder and the woman that choreographed the danced moves said that each one means a different thing.
The movements..
Pride.. Courage.. Humour ..Flair.

@@tenderheart17 Thank you so much!
Diana dors was absolutely stunning. What a beauty 💜💜💜💜
Yes. A gorgeous and incredibly talented woman. She was definitely one of a kind.
The rhythms in all his songs were incredible
That was awesome...and I love Diana Doors...UK Marilyn Monroe!!! May she rest in peace and Adam find happiness!
I worked at Broadcasting House at the time when he came up for an interview at the Radio 1 building, opposite. I remember running down the flights of stairs to meet him. He was beautiful, gorgeous black curly hair and lovely blue eyes. Quite shy and "boy next door", very ordinary and relatable without the stage makeup. Best days of my life 😊
Not watched that in years and smiled all the way through. Heard a baby crying today which sounded exactly like the start on the record.
Ehhhhh haaaaa.! absolutely bang on. 👍👍👍
This song is the 80s
My favourite single of the 80s
Brilliant

'Redicule is nothing to be scared of'
Teen in the 80s here , massive crush on Adam, the music amazing n wore the make up, so glad i got to experience this and still lve the music .
This video is genius level. The concept, the acting, the cast, costuming, choreography... brilliant. Bravo.
Everything is perfect. From Diana Dors as the fairy godmother to the chandelier swing at the end. Also Clint Eastwood at the very end
totally agree , looking back at it now you can see the art / message / meaning //
sadly , at the time , it got drowned out to a large extent by the gallons of dross "sloshing" around ....
Are you serious?? Come on. I watched this when I was 16, 17 years old and fell in love with "Adam". Splitting up laughing now I watch it again. The colours are too bright, and I can spot the gold painted cardboard from here!!😂 Musically it seemed to get interesting, with the combi of north-American indian tribal music and pop. But the first album was disappointing and I never bought the second one. It was fun but to call it genius is in my view ridiculous.
@@smoly37possibly nostalgia. Brings back great feelings and at that time it was fabulous. I still think it is
LOL @ his face when he's swinging the chandelier at around 1:50 - he looks terrified!
He looks like he souts PANTIES! Lol
Maybe it was the drop he had to do from it that terrified him?
Brings back great memories

Cinderella meets Rocky Horror Picture Show.
That wasn't just a video. That was an experience! I feel like I went through a 3 minute journey into the mind of a creative artist.
"Prince Charming" was a number one single in the UK Singles Chart for four weeks in September 1981 for Adam and the Ants, featured on the album of the same name. Written by Marco Pirroni and the Ants, it was their second number one single. Fellow band member and co-producer Merrick (Chris Hughes), normally on drums, played a stirring riff on an open-tuned acoustic guitar throughout the song; lead guitarist Pirroni mimed to this part on both an orchestral harp and a miniature version of the instrument in the promotional video, which was based on the pantomime Cinderella.
The music video was also notable for its extravagant production. It featured a swashbuckling Adam Ant, in flamboyant Regency clothes, performing a much imitated arm-crossing dance. Diana Dors, in one of her last on-screen performances, appeared in the video as a Fairy Godmother.
@SHADOW COMPANY Its called copy'n'paste

You also forgot to mention, it wa also a hit single in Sweden, Holland, Austria, + Australia. + the album of the same name was also a hit in them countries i mentioned!

Prince Chow Mein, Big Noodles are nothing to be scared of
Nobody seems to mention that his Rudolph Valentino impersonation is so spot on its scary.
Dude, I'm sure more than half the people watching this video doesn't know who Rudolph Valentino, Alice Cooper or the Man with No Name is.
@@ndoris why would u presume that?
Man with No Name no, but I knew who Clint Eastwood is. As far as my parents allowed, Alice Cooper's music was prohibited. But yes, I know who Rudolph Valentino is and even have a couple of DVDs of his movies.
ndoris Well, if they didn’t know who Rudolph Valentino was before, they do now! That’s a good thing!
He was way before my time, Adam Ant’s time and most everyone alive, but old movie buffs know. What we know was new to us sometime.
Even the Brando was great....shame he had to cut that out.
Takese me back to the 80s we loved this guy he was the fabric of our time.brings a tear how our youth gone in a flash.. enjoy your early years kids because you will wake up old sooner than you think.😢
ABSOLUTE STYLE ICON.
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of. Adam Ant is fearless in these vids and songs.
Now that's how you make a music video... FANTASTIC!!!
In junior high (middle school) I dressed up like him for Halloween. Because MTV just came out, I'd say 15% of my school knew who I was. Others thought I was a punk pirate. LOL
I too,he was really cool at the time.....for me at least.
I dressed as him for Halloween too! It was 2010, I was 10, fair to say nobody had a clue who I was lol
Sweet68Camaro I thought Halloween was meant to be spooky?
I will admit I too dressed up like Adam for Halloween, first pair of pleather pants.....had a stiffy all nite, and to think I still thought I was straight, Adam I love you then and I love you now.......of and that goes for the Ants too.....
I dressed like him in 9th grade, which was 2013. No one understood it but like, one teacher
That dance! The gestures so simple yet so powerful! The whole video creeps up on you and makes you laugh in spite of yourself!
This is why Eighties videos were inventive, creative and iconic
