I think the reason they made Wolverine such an important character in the movies is because he was arguably the most popular character in the cartoon and comic books. He was my co-favorite with Gambit, who I was annoyed that they didn't have him any of the x-men movies, and only a bit part in one of the Wolverine movies.
He was only popular in the animated series because he was popular in the Comic books. This translated into the movies, so if not for the comic books...

I loved watching the old X-Men cartoon growing up. But I doubt I could sit through the whole show again as an adult. It's very much "made for kids." But that's what so great about X-Men '97--they took a show that we grew up on, revamped it and made it more palatable to our grown up selves. It's such a brilliant idea. And I'm hoping they do the same thing for the 90s Spider-Man cartoon.
The people who made the 90s Spider-Man show must think pacing is for cowards.
Idk I beg to differ im on S3 of the original show and its crazy how much shit is happening with the Phoniex Saga, Cyclops finding out his dad was in space all this time, his brother being on X Force with Forge, Rogue's step mom being Mystique and her basically killing Captain marvel by touching her for too long which is why she can fly and has super strength

@@Narutoanime16g Yeah, the OG show, while maybe dated in some parts, still has a solid foundation because that foundation was the original comics. The show actually does a very admirable job of adapting a lot of the original comic's most famous storylines (which '97 continues that tradition too).
On a sidenote, that's also why when you ask 90's kids/Millennials why back then it was X-Men (along with Spider-man) that was most popular, and not the MCU heroes like the Avengers or Fantastic Four, the reason was actually pretty simple but for some reason people don't seem to say it: It's because the writing on X-Men was just better. People try to attribute it to the powers or characters or art but it really was the writing. Even all the way back to classic X-men with Chris Claremont, he was writing legit great stories that still stand up to the test of time like the Phoenix Saga while most other comics were still pretty boilerplate.
I rewatched some episodes and thematically, it holds up. It definitely does not talk down to its audience. The animation is dated but that’s the best they could do at the time. It’s still fun though!
Also fun fact - During the intro songs of each episode, there are new scenes visible each time.
Sometimes characters of the X-Men change looks (particularly Jean's, which is related to 'some events' as we all know by now, and also Xavier/Magneto being added, other times completely different scenes are added.

As for Storms storyline: They adapting the comic stories. In the comics, Storm lost her powers as well but here, she was protecting Rogue, not Magneto, which ended in a two part story called "Lifedeath" like the two series.
So that female “pirate” that morph turned into , in episode 6 is Yuriko bka Lady Deathstrike. Thats the same badass from X-men united (X2) that was whoopin Wolverine’s ass 😂.
I just finished the finale, and to see you guys go through the series has put a smile on me. This series is incredible, and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do.

Don't explain the lore too much, since it would be a unintentional spoiler for Kacee, since this show uses a lot of the plot points from the comics.
Refusing to deliver a baby was common back when racial segregation was still legal. It still happens in some parts of the world today
I think the jubilee part of episode 4 when they were talking about not living in the past and moving on, it was the writers way of telling the audience that this show won’t just be nostalgia and that the story and show is new and different.
Magneto, Storm and Jean are Omega level mutants.
Phoenix is beyond Omega level.
Absolutely love this show. also has the all time best un-skippable Intro credits ever that even changes as more characters are introduced to the show.
What's really fun about the Jubilee video game episode is the older Jubilee was voiced by the original voice actress from the 90s show.
The actor who played Jubilee in the Animated Series refused to play her in the 97 series because according to her, she wasn't Asian and felt bad about portraying on here. Kinda weird, because she had no problem before.
@@kiillabytez As someone who grew up in the 90s there's absolutely nothing weird about your opinions and feelings changing over the span of 30 years. We didn't know better. We learned and we grew. I've learned that for decades, Asian-Americans have had a harder time than almost any other ethnicity making it in Hollywood. So knowing that, why would I deny an Asian role to an up and coming Asian actor?

38:14 The older Jubilee was voiced by Allison Court, the original voice actress of Jubilee in the 90's X-Men Animated Series.
Gambit was also my favorite character from the original series. I barely remember the original series, but I just remember him being so cool.

In the comics, Gambit was able to use his powers to form a static field around his body which allows him to touch Rogue. He was also an Omega level mutant that can defeat the Phoenix but had himself surgically powered down to prevent the destruction he can whrought like exploding the whole planet.
Hooboy, stopping this part before 5 is a choice 😅

It was good, but I had more interest watching Rudeus deal with his ED or even Frieren. I can cite at least 5 animes I enjoyed more, but it's useless because it's my opinion and you also have your own(which is also valid btw)

42:32 The first part of episode 4 is very important for what follows. It is not just telling Jubilee to grow up, but it’s warning the he audience that this show is about to grow up massively from the show was in the 90’s. Both it terms of its story and message in a 2024 world. 😊
anna paquin's rogue was a young mutant who is meant to fill the role of the audience character in the movie. this version of rogue is an adult who permentantly absorbed the abilities of carol danvers aka captain marvel, which gave her super strength, invulneribility, and flight. so this version of rogue is able to do more because she has more experience and her powerset make her a heavy hitter where the movie rogue lacked all those things.

also jean is omega. speaking of omega level, even alpha level mutants like cyclops and other character have omega level feats and can even fit into the definition of omega level but marvel hasn’t outright stated or confirmed they are so they don’t count.
Magneto, Storm, Prof X, Iceman(Robert "Bobby" Drake), Hope Summers(Cable's adopted daughter), Legion & Proteus(Xavier 's 2 sons David Haller and Kevin MacTaggart), Jamie Braddock(Psylocke & Capt Britain's brother), Elixir & Kid Omega(Josh Foley and Quentin Quire...students at Xavier's school introduced in the early 2000s), Vulcan(Cyclops & Havoc's youngest brother Gabriel Summers and member of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard), Exodus(Bennet Du Paris, Magneto's sometimes 2nd in command and an Eternal), Mister M( Absolon Mercator, a matter manipulator who just kinda showed up putta nowhere after M-Day), Fanklin Richards(the eldest child of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman), Emma Frost, Nate Gray(A version of cable from an alternate timeline), Stryfe( A clone of cable made by Mr. Sinister and raised by Apocalypse), Matthew Mallory/Molecule Man all the Omega level mutants. The Omega classification doesn't just apply to mutants. It applies to all superpowers where their is no known upper limit. The Hulk's strength is a good example because no limit to it has been found.
In the last year Synch has also been raised to Omega level because of his ability to synch up with and use any power set in a 20 foot vicinity(evem those of non mutants like Spiderman and Hulk) and recall that those powers anytime he chooses. Think Rogue without the need for touch and permanent retention without any negative side effects for the other person. It has also been suggested that both Morph and Mystique might be Omega level as well for is no known limit to their shape changing abilities.
prof x is not counted as an omega level mutant. Jean is far more powerful than he is, but i guess he is just more skilled at using his telepathy than any other telepath including those who are more powerful than him. i dont exactly get how that works. he really probably should be but they haven't officially declared him to be an omega yet.
another slight clarification. Psylocke is now the superhero name of Kwannon the person whose body Elizabeth braddock used for many years. Elizabeth Braddock is now Captain Britain and Brian Braddock who used to be Captain Britain is now Captain Avalon.
Emma frost like Prof X is not technically an Omega level mutant. she only reaches omega level with the help of the phoenix force which she held for a period of time.
technically Rachel Summers was the first person who was cited to be an omega level mutant, but i believe she capped her powers out of fear of her strength.
As of the last month or so it has been revealed that Hope Summers, who was adopted by Cable, Louise Spalding (a human firefighter) was impregnated by Jean Grey by/with the Phoenix Force. that isn't really relevant but its just such an X-Men kinda thing to happen i just thought id share.

This adaptation of the Madeline Pryor/Goblin Queen story arc is honestly FAR better than in the comics. Originally Madeline broke bad not because of Sinister’s influence, but from Scott abandoning her for the real Jean. Which made Scott look horrible because while Madeline is a clone she’s still the mother of his child and their feelings for each other were in fact real. And I loved that in the end Madeline was freed of Sinister’s control and will now live her own life free to do what she wants. It was also a great idea to have their memories merge so that no one knows who was who during when.
Also I loved her costume redesign. Instead of looking like it was designed by a horny teenage boy she looks like an actual witch. And I’m still surprised that the animators made the nightmare scenes look like if Guillermo Del Toro did a remake of The Thing.
The movies suprisngly neutered a lot of characters like Rogue and Cyclops. While Wolverine get all the fame lol. Iam glad X 97 can remind people how great the team is and not just constantly focusing on Wolvie for the 97th time

The Rogue x Magneto romance arc came from the Age of Apocalypse timeline back in the 90's. In that universe, Xavier died saving Magneto, who founded the X-Men in his honor. Gambit leaves in protest (due to personal reasons and due to Rogue being younger than Magneto's own kids) Eventually they have a kid named Charles.
i believe they also had a romance in the main timeline in the savage lands.
The Live Action movies is NOT the real Lore 💡👍

9:59 Rogue in the comics and Animated Series stole Ms. Marvels (Carol Danvers) powers while Rogue was a "villain" before she joined the X-Men. For the film thanks to Fox only having the rights to The X-Men they couldn't introduce Ms. Marvel or Captain Marvel for legal reasons so Rogue was pretty limited in the movies. I'm sure the writers could've worked around this and found a way for Rogue to gain flight, super strength etc. But yeah the movies would've been next level if Rogue had her abilities from the comics, an actual threat.
In terms of her personality the film I guess showcased a teenage Rogue but still she lacked that iconic southern charm we see from the Animated Series. Dolly Parton would be perfect casting for an older Rogue if they ever do some funky time travel stuff in Live Action.
Just like any translation from Comics to movies, they always cripple their powers to be "more relatable" to the audience. I didn't fall in love with the books because I could relate to the heroes but more because they were so powerfully awesome.
In the movie she fill the Jubilee story-line from the series, that was 1 thing i hated from the movie back in the day, rogue being my favorite x-men.
the good part is the same year we got X-men: evolution where Rogue was kinda similar to the movie, but well done, i loved her on that iteration too.
Rouge is so much better in this than the movie in big part because of the fact like I'm the comics she has a portion of Captain marvel powers

Most of the story arcs they adapt from the comics, like storm lost her powers arc which is one of the greatest story line, the goblin queen arc, rogue and magneto story is in the comics.

On a side note the only time Gambit has ever died in the comics has been in alternate realities but NEVER in the actual 616 reality.
Gambit is also, or was omega level. His powers were so strong, he had Mr Sinister take out a piece of his brain to depower him.

Nah these topics were relevant in The X-Men from the 60s on. Shit just doesn't change. Omega level has kind of lost it's meaning over time. It originally meant the mutant could bring itself back to life without help. Iceman is my favorite Omega.
The 90s X-Men show was something you watched when you were in the mood for cartoons and it was on. But it was so hard to keep track of the storylines. Especially because they aired out of order.

Cool trivia, older jubilee is the original voice actress and new jubilee is the new voice actress.
A lot of people seem to miss how necessary the Jubilee episode was. As the show progresses, each time you see jubilee, or Roberto and Jubilee, there's more of a connection with the characters than there would be if they hadn't taken a little time to focus on them.

Welcome to my childhood Kacee and btw everybody loves Gambit
I remember when I was growing up _no one_ I knew seemed to like Gambit, leaving me to be the odd-one-out for the most part. Now it seems like everyone and their mother supposedly liked him back in the day. Same with my boy Donatello. Come to think of it, most of the characters I liked used some kind of bo staff as a weapon to thwack people with.... I don't know what the psychology behind that is, but I'm sure there's something Sigmund Freud would have to say about it.
Magneto's powers evolved over time, partially because we didn't fully know how magnetism worked when Magneto was written. The term "electromagnetism" didn't even exist then. Since then, we've learned that electricity and magnetism are basically two sides of the same coin, so if you could control one, you could control both.

I watched the original X Men animation when I was a kid on Tv (has quite a few problem where I didn't do my homework cause I rather watch the animation). Rewatch it again as an adult and feel the X Men 97 really respectful to the original animation and even more
Wolverine Merch outsold everyone else's: so he was the main star in live action from the rip due to that. Hugh Jackman made sure it stuck.
