Cool fact, Tobin Bell (the guy on the floor) laid there for a total time of 3 weeks whilst this was being filmed. Became a horror icon afterwards. Legend
Saw movies are best watched back to back since they all refer back to each other and the time line goes to events that happen before, between and after.
John Carpenter's "The Thing" and David Cronenberg's "The Fly" are pretty much the best film remakes of all time, and yet somehow, they are also two of the most strikingly original horror films ever made. Well worth a watch just for the practical effects alone.
John Kramer is a mechanical and civil engineer by trade he engineered all these traps himself. Also Tobin bell made this movie work cause of his voice and demeanor. Seen this the day it came out when I was 15 still leagendary to this day
Jigsaw is a great villain because in HIS mind he's doing what he's doing for the greater good. He's dying of cancer and he sees people all around him who don't appropriate the life they have so he puts them in situation that forces them to fight for their life to prove to THEM how precious their OWN life is. He has a brain tumor so we can probably assume that's affecting his thought process but he idea was creepy and genius at the time it came out NOBODY had don't anything like it.
Most mind blowing ending ever. Forget others for now. Gotta keep going with the SAW series, there’s a whole elaborate story of psychological depth and layers.
the txhing I've always found fascinating about this movie franchise is the different traps and characters that have to not only beat the challenges but also help the victims in the traps
AWESOME! Love these movies. The story just takes off to another level throughout the series and I freakin love it each time. The actor that plays Jigsaw was nominated at least 5 times for his portrayal of Jigsaw.
@@M87lolI think the process of the special effects and realism is super creative and saw did it very well. If we talk about hostel I didn’t see a point just gore to get a reaction.
Fun fact: The reverse bear trap scene was featured in a 10 min short film that served as a prototype to convince producers. Basically the progenitor of the Saw franchise.
Tobin Bell is one of my favorite lesser known actors. He did great in this, in Stargate SG-1, Seinfeld, The Quick and the Dead, etc. Leigh Whannell (Adam) wrote this film, and was also in the Insidious films. If you want truly scary, I highly recommend cosmic horror. The concept that there are things out there so unknowably alien that to try to comprehend even the smallest part will drive one irrevocably insane is just perfect to me. The Cthulhu Mythos is the most famous of this type, and in film form: The Thing, In the Mouth of Madness, Prince of Darkness, Event Horizon, and Annihilation are my favorites.
I would recommend that you watch The Fly from 1986. It's not just a great horror, but a great movie with actual drama and real depth. Technically it’s a Sci-fi horror, but it’s also kind of a very tragic love story. It features some of the best practical special effects of all time and it won an Oscar for best makeup and it stars Jeff Goldblum in arguably the best performance of his career.
Easily his best performance, IMHO. Everybody is going nuts over his performances for Jurassic Park and Ragnarok. They're good but better than The Fly? Please.
You picked up on the two gripes I have with the movie right away. 1. Dr. Gordon could have used his shirt to get to the phone at the end, but one could rightly argue that he was losing his mind. 2. Zep should have never made it out of that house. Any real mother would have shot that man dead. Say what you want about different types of people, but as you said. "Her daughter was tied up right next to her". That scenario went down that way because the movie needed it to. It's a fantastic movie, and the best of the series. Definitely not horror, more psychological thriller with some gore. Another movie kind of similar to that is "Frontiers". It was a french made movie that won the After Dark Horrorfest that used to be held back when Saw first came out. Frontiers is gory, and extremely brutal to watch. Also subtitled, not dubbed. It's a fun ride, if you can stomach the things that happen in the movie.
Fun fact at 10.28 on the scene where it shows John in hospital look at the designs on the table in the bottom left corner. It a major piece of forshadowing.
These movies are so fun the original idea for these movies are great but the longer they go the more crazy they get. If you enjoy this try and watch them all. Not all of them are perfect but they are tons of fun.
