    My 9 year old son came in while you were playing the guitar and after a while he says "I feel like I know him". Then a minute later he says "THE APPlE GUY"! All six of my kids know you. That should tell you something about how much of an influence your videos have had on us. Thank you.

      Thank you Wes. My health is not what it was, but the main reasons I post so little here recently are (A) I have little new to say, and (B) the orchard is no longer the main focus of my ‘spare’ time. That has moved to teaching skin cancer diagnostics. I spent £15,000 (including loss of earnings) and 3 months of my time in Australia and New Zealand this time last year pursuing expertise in this area and am organising an international training conference this June. I am not at the orchard so often. But that may change after June
      Anyhow, Julia and I feel deeply privileged and blessed that our humble achievements here have given pleasure and inspiration to others. We set out to do something to promote these wonderful old fruit varieties and traditions and it seems that we have had some success, through these videos. For that we are thankful.
      I plan to post some updates this year, but I am struggling a bit and need to manage my time carefully.
      Kindest thoughts.

    Mate! You came to New Zealand recently!? Would’ve loved to get your input on our community orchard in Christchurch. It’s an old heritage apple orchard that’d been neglected and we’re trying to restore. We actually share your pruning videos on our facebook page but to get instruction in person would’ve been a treat. Hope you had a good time here.

      Thanks. I was only in Christchurch for a day and 2 nights, seeing an old mate and walking about a bit. I was mostly in Brisbane studying skin cancer diagnostics, which has taken over from the orchard as my main area of interest. Will try to put a few vids up this autumn, but generally, as said before, I don;t have much to say or show I haven;t already posted several times. All the best

      No riots yet, and not a lot of writing (that will come, I hope, when I finally retire in 3 years). Have written a few scraps of song lyrics and poems, but for now it's mostly playing guitar, drinking cider, and looking out the window. The windows were specifically designed to capture as much sunlight and orchard as possible. And reading philosophy and history.

    • @stephenhayesuk
      @stephenhayesuk  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Jamie. I’d love to send out some scion wood this spring, but it has to be done in March, and I have some heavy stuff going on in March. Combination of things that I don’t want to share with world and that can’t be re-scheduled. A full blown scion wood send out to the usual 100 or so addresses across Europe takes all my spare time and energy for a couple of weeks. Sorry. Maybe 2021.

      Thanks. To be honest it’s been a difficult year, for reasons I don’t particularly want to tell the world, and done a lot of travel, but the main reasons for uploading very few videos are 1) nothing new to say, and 2) been using all my spare energy developing an international skin cancer conference in Winchester next June. Also most of the trees took a rest from fruiting this year anyway. I will try to get a video up soon just to say hello. Thanks for caring.

      I may do when the need arises. Currently, the writer's cabin is mostly in the 'When I have more time after I retire' category. As I mentioned, I am much occupied organising a skin cancer diagnostics conference next June. Budget is £40,000 and I am the only backer! I hope to spend some more time in the woods and orchard this winter. Kind regaards

    Hi Stephen. I haven't been able to find a better way to contact you so the comment section will have to do.
    I was wondering if you'll be sending out scion wood in jan/feb/march of 2020? If that is the case I would be interested in some of your varieties or even doing some scion wood trades with you (i have ''access'' to a large collection from one of my professors). I am located in Slovenia. All the best, Luka.

    • @stephenhayesuk
      @stephenhayesuk  4 года назад

      Hi Luka. At present I haven't decided about sending out scion wood in late winter 2019/20. Probably I won't as I am going to be really busy preparing an international scientific conference here in Hampshire, but I will make a definite announcement soon. I may send a limited number of parcels out, previous years I have been sending 100 or more parcels and it takes me 2 whole weeks. Sorry for my indecision

    Sorry just getting the hang of this. Hi Stephen I was at the Wickam Music Festival last weekend and actually went through Bottley as you would expect, I almost expected to see you around ha ha. I have an allotment that I am preparing for a 10 tree orchard and the trees are on order for delivery next January that is how I found your mine of information and thank you for that. Anyway at the festival we walked down into Wickam village and had a pint in the Kings Head pub in the square, I am sure you will have been there yourself. As you walk up the beer garden on the right hand side at the bottom of the wall there is what appears to be an apple tree/bush, have you seen it and do you know what verity it is? I did take some pics but I don't think I can attach them here. I should also say I say my first Medlar tree in the front garden of a house near the community centre when walking into the village

    • @stephenhayesuk
      @stephenhayesuk  5 лет назад +1

      Hi John, we were at the festival too and I remember that particular medlar tree in a front garden. I played mandolin with Wickham Morris outside The King’s Head, one of my favorite pubs.
      Not sure about the Apple tree you mentioned, will have a look out for it.
