Personally I am not comfortable with the idea of my board hitting some unsuspecting surfer or grom on the inside. All just to feel like I am an expert surfer or because I want to hot-dog and show off. If you lose your board once that should be proof that you are not good enough. old mans sucks if its any good there then other breaks are going off with steep sections not that shit wave with zero power. I have some friends that surf there and I tell them that they need to start surfing some real waves those waves are crap and just to slow and god I just cant say enough on how crappy the wave is, nobody can charge that place nobody .
I can understand your opinion. I grew up mostly surfing Trestles, as well as, and other strong beach breaks. You cannot beat the vibe at this spot though. Break out the Bar-B-Que, enjoy a couple of sessions, and work on your form.
just go right up the beach and have some real waves at churches or even better cottons point anywhere but old mans , if that's the only place u surf then you don't surf

I would suggest Uppers and Lowers if you want high performance. In my opinion Church is over-rated and sections off to much. And for Cottons... ...It is a glorified drop-in with no-shoulder.

I don't recall at that age what I was more stoked with,,good clean,warm surf or geedunk machines on base that had beer!

An 8footer jumped out of the water about 10 feet from a circle of people sitting on the outside. I was in that circle. Scariest thing I have ever saw.
