My family’s never been into guns and the ones that do own firearm’s, haven’t been taught by a professional. I’ve took a 2 weeks course for firearms and learning this is extremely helpful.
Walther PDP tried to explain similar things about the pinky grip/pressure when they promote the PDP, This guy completes that theory. So good! keep it up!
Hey, Now I am a bit confused. You say the pinky is so important and definitely an important part of the grip..Tu Lam from Ronin Tactics says the complete opposite..the pinky doesn't do anything.... Now both of you are high skilled shooters and both of you hit the targets and who hits is right, right? But what I wanna know now is what is more true because both grips obviously work really well for the individual shooter..is it just an individual thing or is there a thesis that is backed up by proof of science or whatever on which grip is better or if the pinky is important now or not( other than just hitting and shooting well cause both instructors do it)? thanks
thank you i approved even more of a shooter I'm doing the firearms portion in the academy this weekend and seeing you're videos helped im still really waiting to take your firearms courses
I’ve always argued the importance of the pinky - it’s just math, the pinky provides leverage at the farthest distance from center of rotational mass. But, the ring finger is often taught to the public because there is an assumption people will have a short grip on a sub/mico compact for concealed carry. And because the public doesn’t train as much, it’s hard to learn two different grip techniques.
Interesting take on drawing, starting contact with the pinky. I was taught to slide down the grip with the web of my hand until I hit the tang and then close my hand. I'll have to give this a try next time I hit the range.
When establishing a grip on a lapel or any other piece of cloth grapplers will tell you that you only need three fingers to hold on and have your way with your opponent: middle finger + ring finger + pinky = equals full strength grip. Your index and thumb are for complementary activites. Nice video and thematically harmonious with grappling arts. Noice.
Excellent just excellent! I've brought two or three tactical gear from ufpro and I can say it is the best quality I've bought out of all the sites I've used, mainly for private security and outdoor activities (personal), I'm hoping for more urban in the future
It's funny. In military I was told the pinky would not be as important as the ring- or middle finger to get a good grip on the gun. It could basically be left out, and it really has worked out for me. Now Im hearing that the pinky can make quite a difference, interesting. Next time shooting Im definetly gonna try it out.
I'm a middle finger guy... yes, the pinky is important in the situation presented there, and in fist formation (boxing, etc.).. but try that with a revolver and you'll be picking it up the floor.
Really what works for you and your body type. I've taken so many different classes that you'll see the many variations of styles and techniques just base on physical attributes alone.
The ulnar two digits play a significant role in overall grip strength of the entire hand. In the present study, exclusion of the ulnar two digits resulted in a 34% to 67% decrease in grip strength, with a mean decrease of 55%. Exclusion of the little finger from a functional grip pattern decreased the overall grip strength by 33%. Exclusion of the ring finger from a functional grip pattern decreased the overall grip strength by 21%. It is clear that limitation of one or both of the ulnar digits adversely affects the strength of the hand. In addition, there was no significant difference between grip strength of FDS-independent and FDS-nonindependent subjects for either hand.
@@sadrioucharef9727 any stats on middle finger usage, or study on lack of palm friction/object stability when you ease the the longest lever in the fist. putting the above study through some bad math the middle and forefinger do appear to be pulling some if not equal weight, genetics and ymmv. . -boxing, et al. form the fist pinky first, squeezing air out of the fist. -okinawan sun fist, fore finger goes first. -bow, lifted finger grips. form the mid finger/ palm adhesion, so that high tang is assured, squeeze air out by adding the rest of the hand.
Pinky is one of the most fundamental fingers for grip since it’s the bottommost finger on the grip. In my experience using the pinky is going to give you the best leverage against recoil since it’s at the bottom of the lever, and helps so much to control recoil.
Thank you just watching this video improved my grip I haven’t had any funds for bullets up until now So I’ve doing dry fire drills and didn’t really a great idea on my what to pay attention too.

Your pinky accounts for 30% of your grip strength. This video is amazing because I had no idea. This is definitely going to help myself and other people grip and aim better. I use a thumbs low grip because it provides the strongest grip possible. It also has the best gun retention of all grip styles.
To the Achilles Team; Good video! I just watched a video (about shooting down left of point of aim) prior to this and they said the pinky finger on the grip was not that important, which I thought was odd. I notice that the shooters here have a slight bend in their arm and not locked straight; I’m the same way, slight bend to my arms & fire. I’m x-military and qualified on the Beretta M9. I primarily shoot a CZ 75B or SIG P226 and am a lot better on the CZ.

I always keep my dominant hand relaxed while shooting and my support hand is a vice grip. Gripping hard with dominant hand has tendency for sympathetic movement of fingers on dominant hand causing shots to go low
This is short and concise on grip and stance without overhelming people instead by showing by principle and example, the pinky is the true way even to me but so many now go on the pinch, brute force onyl, no force at all, push and pull etc., and other questionable ideas understress and like shooting a sidearm like a carbine, it is after all wish not the same, excellent video, and one man of the hell, former border patrol man Bill Jordan exactly taught the grip and establishing it, myself teach the guys as well, having a grip established and and not presenting and applying force through the presentation to its end and then have 100%...
Hi guys, thanks a lot for your instruction videos 👍 Absolutely great job. Some of your details really improved my shooting performance (f.e. grip and recoil management). Just a pity for me, that I'm from central Europe and I'm not able to visit some of your courses 😭
Just go for a Safariland holster. On their website you can enter your firearm, sight and what kind of light you got attached and they'll recommended which holster of theirs fit. They're not cheap but they're some of the best holsters out there.
Just found and enjoyed your videos. However, how many new and even more experienced shooters would or could purchase a $5,000+, tricked out, competition pistol like the one you carry and instruct with? Perhaps using a stock/ out of the box, handgun while you instruct would be more beneficial? Especially to brand-new, 1st time gun owners?
I really rate the video. That said, it might have been an idea to reshoot the "Shooting Posture" in order to demonstrate rock solid trigger discipline. 1:44 - Finger on trigger, remembers training 1:45 removes finger from trigger.
can someone explain to me, WHY the dominant leg goes back and non dominant leg goes forward? wouldn't it help with recoil if the dominant leg was forward to brace for the recoil?
Everytime i visit their website i fantasise what a backpack of them would look like. Along with more stuff for the civilian sector. Cause, i don´t wanna scare my neighnorhood. :)
Why doesn't these instructional videos ever mention bending your arms slightly sideways to mitigate upward recoil? You will never maintain proper aim after your first shot if you don't do this. You will rewatch these videos over and over thinking you missed something and never figure it out while making the youtubers richer...
He has a video on his main page that actually goes over this. He mentions you don't want to flare your elbows too much because the palms of your hand will start coming off of the grip
