Jasper is ok but their price is higher than mine and they don't include oil pan or valve cover. So if your oil pump got taken out by the metal in the system then you now have to buy an oil pump on top of the motor.
All this is great to know. I’ll be doing something to my 04 Canyon before tong. What I’m really needing to know right now is transmissions. Guy put a 4L80 in mine and didn’t tell me until the 90 day ran out. Now I’m having problems So can we get a transmission video. I’m primarily worried that he rigged it to work.

@@BadlandIndustries it kinda works. The 1st problem I had was it jumping out of overdrive or not going into it. I changed the fluid and began to have problems with it pulling off and shifting into 3rd way too soon. I was told to replace the speed sensor on the transfer case and that solved it for about a day. If I clear the codes, and there are various ones with very little consistency, as soon as it 100% cleared it runs perfect for about 2 minutes Then right back to the problem. Any help would be appreciated. I’ve been watching your videos and you seem the be “The Man” for Canyons and. Colorados. Thank you sir.
@@BadlandIndustries I’m not sure about any tuning but I can say it operated just fine, for the first few months I had it back. I noticed a whine one night and had to put 2 quarts of fluid in it. I checked it when I first got it back and the level was where it was supposed to be. I haven’t seen any spots on the driveway or anything but it went somewhere. Level seems to be holding for now. I was wondering if it was really necessary to replace all four speed sensors at once.

Hello, My dad has had his 2006 H3 since 2009 and it needed an engine he went with Jasper and after 3 engines Jasper gave up and sent him a refund. My dad had enough and gave me the H3 as he didn't want to deal with it anymore. Will be dropping it off with the garage I use to find out exactly what the issue is. He doesn't do rebuilds so depending on the issue might need a rebuild or swap and just wondering if you are still building engines for people and how that process works. TIA
My 06 Colorado 3.5 i5 went out two weeks ago via the timing chain/cam. I don't know crap about engines and am struggling to find parts and replacements. Are there any other motors that will go into that truck straight up without too many conversions to adapt it? As much as I'd like to get a new truck my finances are pretty limited. I'd drop just about anything in it if it would get me another 2-3+ years for 3-4 grand. Doubt you'll see this comment but I figured I try since you're the first I've found that actually seems to know wtf they are doing with this truck.
You can swap any 04-07 motor and it'll drop in so long as it has the intake cam sensor. Or you if you can find an 08-12 all you need is the exhaust cam reluctor and add a intake cam sensor where it belongs.
Ok here something to about about ...although I do love my lil 3.5l I really am getting tired of all the computer bs ...that's why I'm thinking about going old school. 262ic with a 700r4 will/do you think it'll just drop in or will the motor mounts have to be redone .....what Really would be involved?

Quick inspection would be aluminum valve cover and whether or not you have an intake cam sensor. If you have both it'll drop in place of your 3.5l. If you don't see the intake cam sensor you will have to add it along with the exhaust gear from an 07. Also be mindful of the oil pan shape. The 2wd and 4x4 were different.

Would I need to do anything to the computer or control modules?
That's what this whole video was about. The 07 and newer have the same head design. However the 07 had an intake cam sensor and 5x reluctor. 08-12 had 4x and no intake cam sensor.
You aren't addressing the fuel return/supply difference between the 3.5 & 3.7. Also, the block, head, intake, and exhaust are different too. The fuel difference is the '04-'05 2.7 & 3.5 have fuel return to tank and the '06 has the later model regulated fuel pressure system. The '07 up 2.8 & 3.7 are all similar. It is easy to use the '06 engines in the '04 & '05 trucks by using the existing fuel system parts. Also easier to use the larger '07 & up engines in an '06 because of the fuel system parts. My '04 Canyon 3.5 5-speed is still running great at about 190,000 miles and I get 22-31 MPG depending on load & speed.
You can install the new motor and bolt up your existing fuel system, intake manifold, exhaust manifold and all that jazz and it'll run 100% fine. No you do not need to change any of these when upgrading the motor. You will however benefit from a tune.
I can build you a 3.7l out of a 2012 and have it drop into your 04 and will run on the first crank and you only have to swap the valve cover to the oil pan. Everything else on your truck will bolt up and run perfectly first try.
@@BadlandIndustries I did a valve job & replaced everything except the PS pump about 20,000 miles ago. It runs perfect & will last longer than I will. For fun my daily driver is an old Civic hatch w/K24. If I want to hotrod something it will be the Civic. The trucks primary job is to tow my fishing boat ant it does that perfectly as is.
A question I’ve had is is it possible to to a bolt on 4wd conversion on an 08 Colorado with a 2wd non torsion bar suspension. I can source all the parts from junkyards but didn’t know if it was possible. Also it’s a 2.9L with the 4L60E so I can trim down the output shaft to fit the transfer case and I have the frame and oil pan clearance too. Also can you even fit a torsion bar setup in place of the old transmission cross member?

Hello, is the "camshaft phaser in your list the same as the one from the old engine? so i use the exaustcampositionsensor and the cam phaser from the old engine(3500) in the new one (3700)? or is it a totally different one
The head design is different. The 2007 cam reluctor is 5x just like the 04-06 but different for the head design. The 08+ is 4x and also had different reluctor design at the 3.5/3.7 split

Are you aware of anyone ever doing a max N/A type build with these motors? I.E: overbore/high compression pistons, max porting and polishing of the heads, cams, or a combination of or all of the previous? Curious what kind of power can be squeezed out of these without forced induction. I know it wouldn’t be cheap, but I find it way more interesting than just “tHrOw An Ls In ThErE”…
The 5cyl is limited in its ability to maintain oil to all the bearings. That said there is one over bore I know of but I think he still had stock compression. The 4.2 i6 seems to be quite promising.

My question is since the 3.7 L engine is no longer an engine that is being supported for replacement parts. Can I swap my engine with the larger V8 engine that was offered in this vehicle from the factory without having alot of computer and wiring changes. I guess what I am asking is it a huge headache to change my engine out for a V8 or would it be easier to buy a used engine off Ebay that is a 3.7 with 80K miles on it.

I have a question. The transmission went out on my 07 with the 3.7 and I have found a low miles transmission from a 04 with the 3.5. Are they the same? I’m having trouble finding any info on it. They are 4wd trucks if it makes any difference.
I have a 2011 3.7 with a bad engine. I purchased a parts truck that’s a 2007 with a 3.7. Is the exhaust came reluctor the only modification needed to put the 07 motor in my 11?
Pretty much. Youll leave the intake cam sensor in the head but it wont connect to anything. You could install your 11 head into your 07 block but that'd a bunch of work.
If you motor swap within the guidelines I outlined in this video you won't need to tune. If you swap pcm's you will absolutely need a tune so the body computer will have ptoper communication.

@BadlandIndustries nothing is wrong with either head. My nephew swapped a 3.7L into a 3.5L truck without realizing the difference. Then he junked to donor truck along with wiring harness and ecm. Now he is trying to figure out how to get it to run.
@TonyMitchell-f8w you need to match the reluctor count and the cam sensors. You likely need the 5x reluctor from an 07 and the intake cam sensor the 3.5 expected.
@@BadlandIndustries I can see why the LS swap is more appealing. You’re getting way more power for less money, but having a TDi with a mild tune getting 30+ mpg while having enough torque to plow and tow is tempting. Jasper is ok but their price is higher than mine and they don't include oil pan or valve cover. So if your oil pump got taken out by the metal in the system then you now have to buy an oil pump on top of the motor.
The oil line I make helps but it's no substitute for low oil volume and the pcv consumption.
@@BadlandIndustries I sent you a message on your page some time ago about swapping my 3.5 for a 3.7 and if you’d be willing to do the swap.

@@davidpender60 I'd be curious if the new transmission was tuned or was it simply swapped.
Quick inspection would be aluminum valve cover and whether or not you have an intake cam sensor. If you have both it'll drop in place of your 3.5l. I have a 2011 Canyon with a 3.7l that I believe jumped the timing chain (no compression) I can't find a reasonably priced replacement here in Canada. Wreckers want over $4000 for motors with 200,000 km. What would I need to do to drop a 2008-2012 3.5 in it. they seem to be more readily available. Would I need to do anything to the computer or control modules?
08-12 all came 3.7l. any of those years will drop in. honestly i would consider rebuilding the motor instead of replacing.
Hi. What need to be changed to use 07 3.7 in 08 truck with 3.7?
@goldcountryruss7035 keep oil in it. The balance shaft bearings are the Achilles heel of this motor. Once they go, the cyl 5 con rod leaves the chat.
Also can you even fit a torsion bar setup in place of the old transmission cross member?
depends how proficient you are with a grinder and a welder. certainly faster and easier to go buy a 4x4 and sell the truck you have. might even get a 5cyl in the swap
The 08+ is 4x and also had different reluctor design at the 3.5/3.7 split
so if i happen to have a 3.5 liter and my 2008 3.7 is blown I could just remove the head from the 3.7 and it should be plug and play.
I haven't seen definitive proof that it's possible. It would be better that you rebuild the 08 with the 05 crank and re-bearing the motor

I mean anything is possible but just go pull another 4.2 from the junk yard. They're only a couple hundred bucks.

What's an LS cost? I think between my shop and the one next door I can handle the labor. I got an 05 i5 with high milage. I've replaced my carrier bearing twice and my trans mount but I still get a clunk with quick acceleration. Will that whole ass end need to be upgraded to compensate for an LS?
Also very interested in the engine swap as an alternative
Is it possible to swap a 3.5L head onto a 3.7L?
I believe so but there's no advantage and you're complicating things. What wrong with your head?
@BadlandIndustries nothing is wrong with either head. My nephew swapped a 3.7L into a 3.5L truck without realizing the difference. Then he junked to donor truck along with wiring harness and ecm. Now he is trying to figure out how to get it to run.
@TonyMitchell-f8w you need to match the reluctor count and the cam sensors. You likely need the 5x reluctor from an 07 and the intake cam sensor the 3.5 expected.
@@BadlandIndustries could the reluctor from the 3.5L cam be put on the 3.7L cam?
@@TonyMitchell-f8w no the depths are different. The sensor won't read properly
Has anyone tried putting the 4.3 v6 s-10 motor in a h3
Not that I'm aware of. It would likely be underpowered still.
Where are you located lol
Nevada
Has anyone swapped a VW TDI into a Colorado? If not, they should.
I'm in the group on fb. But elected to ls swap. I think there's a few talking about it. More than a few lbz and bt4 swaps tho
@@BadlandIndustries I can see why the LS swap is more appealing. You’re getting way more power for less money, but having a TDi with a mild tune getting 30+ mpg while having enough torque to plow and tow is tempting.
There’s gotta be a manual transmission out there that will bolt up to the VW and allow you to keep 4wd.
I think a GM 2.8DuraMAx would be the ultimate! These motors are used overseas in the Colorado badged as an Isuzu and common in Thailand, Malasia, Austraila
@@ejgrant5191 The 4jj1 came stock in the Holden and isuzu variants in Australia and elsewhere.
How do we contact you?
Do u have an email?
Phone and email is on the website
If you got jasper motors going bad that fast you’re probably doing something wrong, as of right now there’s no better motor than a jasper
Had a buddy that went through 7 jasper motors and several died before the first oil change.
i need this done 🥲
You know how to get ahold of me.
i have a 2010 with a 4cyl can i put a5cyl from an 04 in it?
I wouldn't.
@@BadlandIndustries so is it not worth it
Your 2.9 is about your same power as that 3.5l and without the added cost of conversion
@@BadlandIndustries my 2.9 has a rod hanging out of it 😅
Ooooffff better to find another 2.9
