I recently moved. While packing, I found an unopened 40-card pack of 2008 Topps Update. I'm not one for opening packs like I was when I was a kid, but I decided to open the pack and pulled the Kershaw. Immediately sleeved and toploaded the card. It is in perfect condition as well. Can't believe I had it all these years haha.
@@crzybilly1974 Smart move. I have lots of sealed stuff dating back to 80 Topps baseball. I unfortunately was out of hobby from 2007 to 17 but I have plenty of sealed from 2018 and 19 which are great years to hold obviously.
Ichiro really gave us some hope in Seattle--made a lot of home games bearable to watch. I remember once at the bottom of the first we were down 9-1 and my kids (were already full of stadium food and) wanted to leave but we stayed for Ichiro!
Loved Ichiro. My memory was him out running Big Unit to 1st in 2001 All Star game . Play at 1st became a card the next year. Wish I could remember brand. That's over 20 years of fading memories ago. 😎✌️
Absolutely love this video, 2003-2011 was the bread and butter of my collection. This video brought me back to all the times I would drag my dad to toys r us and target looking for the new releases, I really love this era of cards and amazing video as always!

Fernando, Strawberry, Mattingly, Clemens, Gooden, Bonds, Bo Jackson, McGwire, Canseco, McGriff, Jo Carter, Eric Davis, Hershiser, Gibson - all great and expensive rookie cards but not HOFers. Maybe that's a show - most expensive rookie cards of non HOFers!
2006 Topps was the first baseball card set I ever collected as a kid. I still love the set design. And as you laid out in this video, the rookie card guidelines were very confusing prior to '06, so I'm glad MLB implemented standards regarding that. Great video as always!

I would really enjoy seeing a Top list of football cards. Maybe the most valuable Football “One or Two Hit Wonders” (Players with only one or two good seasons) Rookies from the 2000s or the 1990s. A couple examples might be Larry Johnson (2005 & 2006 Seasons), Mike Anderson(2000 Season), Orlandis Gary(1999 Season). Thanks!

I started collecting in 1989 and was done 3 years after that. Got back in to it for no specific reason in 2005 and again was out 3 years later mostly due to the economy in 2008 and then just picked up sets after that. Not much love in 2003, 2007, and 2009 though.
Chris as always a great video. I’d advise you though to look at Molina’s career numbers again. They are absolutely there. He’s #7 all time in hits for catchers (will end #5), has 400 doubles (#4 among catchers), 170 HR, 1000 rbi, and a lifetime .279 avg. the bbref hof monitor has him as an absolute HOF lock with a staggering score of 169 (Mike Trout is at 143, for reference).
I will say it again and again, Max Scherzer is a better pitcher than Kershaw. Scherzer has more No-hitters and CY Young Awards. If I'm the Manager of Game 7 in the WS, Max Scherzer is on the Mound. Great video Chris...
12:19 - post steroid era hangover; everyone in 80s and 90s was on something, league was literally WWE; these 2005+ rookies had to deal with / work around PED testing for the first time ever, and their lack of individual success on a HoF level reflects this.

Pujols Reds waiting till he was 23 to bring him up (he was ready before) combined with playing on some pretty bad teams have hurt his counting stats a bit. He is a sabermetric darling and well liked among writers and players.

I’m floored by the prices relative to traded and update cards from the 1980s of guys like Ripken, Puckett and Clemens. I would think Cabrera would be No. 1 on this list (or at least 2 to Pujols), but pop count probably plays a big role. I don’t see him behind Grienke on careers alone. I’m thinking the low pop count of some of the cheaper cards in this list has to do with them not being big-money cards, so not worth submitting as much as the others.
Joe Mauer is ahead of hall of fame catchers in countless statistics. Verlander is probably fairly noted as the first "sure-fire" hall of famer, but Mauer has to be better than 90%. I'm a white sox fan, he was a demon. Votto also might even be better than 90% at this point. His offensive output has been beyond prodigious. The stats that show how often he has led the national league in different power hitting stats are insane to look at.
Miguel Cabrera You mentioned that he’s just the 7th player with 500 HRs + 3,000 hits. Out of those 7 only 2 others besides Cabrera have a lifetime batting average over .300 (Aaron & Mays) And Cabrera has the highest. @ .310
Unfortunately the writers seem to scorn great players under 2000 career hits. Examples Grich, Edmonds, Utley great players who got on base played great D and got no respect by voters ...
I may be wrong, but it feels like Votto still has some work to do to become a HOF lock. 2000 hits, 300 HR, 1000 RBI are solid but not exceptional, especially in this era - however the impressive walks/OBP (top 50 all time in both) and MVP do help. He's 38, and off to a lousy start, so this could be the beginning of the end, so he will be an interesting case. I'll be pulling for him. Side note - I'm also looking forward to Greinke's HOF speech. Has potential to be the strangest ever.
I heard a very funny Greinke story. He was on 1st base in a game that was a blow out. Zack tries to steal second (his decision) and is thrown out by a mile. The manager asks him whats that all about. Zack says 10 - 10 and walks away. The manager is confused and later finds out that Zack is trying to get 10 Hrs and 10 steals in his career. "The only milestone I care about is to get 10 HR's and 10 Stolen bases." he said. Hilarious!!!
Votto is def an interesting situation. His career has been a tale of 2 cities. Early on he was a power and rbi man, then he became a guy that took walks. He also plays in a smaller market and has never been a consistent winning team. In my opinion he has had 5 hall of fame worthy seaons, 4 or 5 solid ones and a few stinkers either cause of injury or poor play. He is a SABR metrics persons dream, but I feel as a star player he had too many cases when they needed him to get a hit in a big situation and drive in a run and he takes a walk. Wont be mad if he gets in, but I wont be upset if he doesnt.
Love Regular Rollers the best simply because I can afford to collect these cards. Hard to get worked up about High Roller cards because they’re priced to the sky. Nice if you had one for the $ but otherwise they hold little appeal other than eye candy. I love collecting all types of rookies and to me these cards are just as valuable as a low pop, fancy parallel, auto, patch and so forth that many times are not even the players rookie and are just a year or two old. Hate the disparity between PSA and BGS price wise. Don’t get that.

And it continues to baffle me how rookie cards got to be such a big deal in the first place. Growing up in the ‘70s, I can’t recall encountering anyone then who thought rookie cards were special.
2001 & 2008 are very strong rookie classes. 2001 Fleer Tradition has Pujols & Ichiro RCs that are still very affordable. Last time I looked you could get an unopened factory set for around $50. Seems like a good deal to me...
When was the last time you looked? I checked eBay and the cheapest is $150. You can get the set without the 35 rookie cards for cheap, but not if you want all 485 cards.

Of course, being in Canada, there was an expensive shipping cost and with duty fees from eBay's global shipping program and the exchange rate, it ended up being $182 Canadian, but you only live once, so I said what the heck. I really like the old fashioned design of those cards. I searched my email to see if I had ever tried to get that set before and I found that in 2012, I was outbid and it sold for only $20.63. I guess I should have bid a bit more back then.
