When you continually break your routine you go into self sabotage mode and get more depressed

I set routine for myself and plan ahead but when the time comes to do all that I don’t have the energy nor the motivation to do anything for example I planned to go to college today and I’m awake but I can’t manage to get out of bed

That's why I never plan and just do things at my own time. But it isn't consistent. Especially with homework. All I do is watch RUclips and play around. I know I need to do homework but I don't have the energy to do it. So I laze around all day, panicking about homework. I try to pull an all nighter to catch up..Instead I end up falling asleep.

I struggle with getting out of bed. It's so frustrating. Something so simple and yet I just can't do it.

Unrelated, but I'm loving how you order your books according to color! I do this with my clothes :)

Today I found an intermediate spot between getting up for a routine and sataying in bed feeling bad. I woke up early and I stood in bed, but led my mind to positive feelings towards myself and life. Like: feeling protected, feeling thankful to life, to my body, whatever. And I found that, even staying passive, not focusing on negative thoughts as usal is a good change to beguin with. I still want to incorporate a daily routine, but also feel this can be achived starting from a loving, self caring place. Self care is also cultivate good thoughts and feelings, even though you are feeling disconnected, scared, unmotivated or stressed (because there´s a lot of stress going on in a depression, even if you do very few things). Still you can treat yourself kindly.

Desperate to pull myself out this dark space I've fallen into and form some sort of routine! Isolating for so long, has made me scared to go out. :(

Not easy, but it gets easier. Currently in one of those spiralled down moments. Thank you for the video. Glad I googled exactly this - 'how to have a routine for depressed people'. haha!

Thank for this video. I like your calming voice. I’ve started establishing my favorite daily routine and I’m still looking for ways to improve it depending on my level of energy. Have a great week 👋

What I really would rather hear is how to do those things through depression. I know what would help. I know what to do, but how can I, for instance, keep a routine, if I am experiencing near debilitating depression.

this is a tough one - but if you can find a little glimpse of what matters to you or that you're proud of / happy about that can be a starting point to build on? What would the other people in your life say about you if they were asked to say what made you a good friend is also another helpful question... others can often see the strengths we overlook x

This was very helpful, thank you. I always have trouble sticking to schedules but this breaks it up into small things you can add in one at a time. Thank you very much(:

Hi Dr. Knightsmith thank you for this video! I am pursuing a Ph.D. which allows me to work from home basically as often as I would like, and timelines in a Ph.D are often nebulous... this has made it really easy for me to fall out of any routine of sleep/other habits like eating just like you mentioned. I understand the incredible importance of having a routine but I find it really hard to find any satisfaction even if I do successfully perform a habit, and often just find myself upset that I haven't been performing such an obvious task all along. Do you have any tips to combat this? Thank you so much!

Only lasts 2 days. 2 days wasted, back to 0 waiting for the energy to try again. Multiply this with hundreds of attempts and that's how my life is wasted. What's the point?

Does Medication hinder progress in things like EMDR or CBT

I try but find myself drawn back to my bed. I feel moreso like "whats it even matter?" than just laziness.

Your whole methodology is routine when your depressed you can't even get out of bed let alone routine.
    Totally unrealistic
