The SECTOR live! did a test drive with a beautiful replica of the legendary racing car from the film "Le Mans" by Steve McQueen.
How was the Porsche 917 developed?

Hi Jennifer, you're right. But the music is only at the beginning and some parts of the Video, the most parts are pure motorsounds ...

I helped assemble an original 917k from scratch, new chassis, body interior, wiring harness. Missing, engine, transmission. Engine, trans. purchased used from Vassic-Polac (sp) in southern Calif. Used in CAN-AM series until racing series was shut down. Started 1973, finished for show at Porsche Parade 1978, Snow Mass Colorado. A winner!! All original!! What a challenge to finish, no assembly manual, HA.

I got one these running around my home town. I gave it a through inspection at last Father’s Days Cars and Coffee. Oh and he brought along it’s stablemate a GT40; also in a Gulf livery. It brought the show to a complete standstill. So much for the Lambos, McLarens and Ferrari’s getting all the attention.

This is what a porsche is really made for! Racing or roadgoing.... not to stay hundrets of weeks in a garage to stay its wheels flat...
Many things may copied, few things can created! 917 & the C-111 are examples. For me, the fact that either/both exist is comforting. The desire, logic & passion is no better expressed! Yes, there many others that desire respect & praise as due, but 917! Many thanx 👍 👍, be safe 🦊

that is a nice replica looks like the real ones with a 3.2 liter 6 cylinder engine so it is most likely street legal. I would buy one if I had the money! LOL
They did and it's called the 918. That's the best you can get with all the DMV regulations.

Jemand, der beim lenken IN DAS Lenkrad greift, dem sollte verboten werden Auto zu fahren und erst recht, einen 917 zu pilotieren!!! (der angeblich von Steve Mc Queen gefahren wurde, dem aber nicht so war, da ein Werksfahrer von Porsche den 917 gefahren ist...)
Der Fahrer zgl. Besitzer war wohl auch mehr ein Sammler als Pilot - wir haben darüber hinweggeschaut 😉.

Is there any dimension difference between original and replica?? Also i felt like tires bit thinner than original!!! I really appreciate whoever took initiative to build replica coz it's not necessary that praising fan could be a millionaire.. wish if even someone could have build flat 12 with big fan!! Dam him who invented auctioning and bidding!! Would love to own someday..have anyone saw Hotwheels's gulf models?? They released it chrome light blue and gloss orange...wonder if its in real!!

On their website it says their kits start from $20k or so, depending on what car you choose, minus engine. Perfectly affordable.

Not a bad video if you discount the race replica doing 30mph where ever it goes and of course the crappy music that's too loud.
Not quite as Beautiful as the also ran 512 but like that girl with whom you have real CHEMESTRY she's irrisistable plus she's more grounded and sexy. This is my all time favorite race car. Hey wrong engine!

Sorry id put a twin turbo LS good for 600 to 1000ps with a 6 speed tremic in it.
You could never really "street" the original 12, this was the logical solution.
Still the most important part the flat 12 is not in it, it need the 500+HP to become the real thing.
Can put a GT3 motor in it , get that race sound an HP

Get a Testrossa flat 12, tune it to 650ps. Add an electric fan to look like original. Ok, that engine had gearbox mounted underneath, but with few modifications, you fit a Porsche G50 box and pongo...12 cylinders

You'll hear the (6 cyl.-) motorsounds in many parts of the video, which has to be understanded more as a homage than a test. The owner of the car (driver in the video) 1) couldn't race over public streets and 2) is actually a little bit cautious ;-)
Maybe our next video with a PORSCHE 910 vs. 914/6 ist better for you ...
