      Nice! I find it's especially helpful when listening to tape, be it cassette or 8-Track. Really helps compensates for the lack of higher frequencies.

      Exactly true playing tapes through this equalizer is just amazing I have two cassette deck connected to the equalizer.

    Technics has always built quality, reliable components. Most people think that if you have great speakers in a good hifi system you're all set. However, even top quality speakers can sound anemic. Your listening room can add it's own "sound" to the music. How?? Standing waves and room nodes can create havoc with sound. That's why a good parametric or graphic equalizer can make a big difference. This SH-8055 looks sweet. I've used an ADC Sound Shaper Two IC (graphic EQ) since purchase in 1982, whenever my system is on. My ADC has twelve slider controls per channel with +/- 12dB range, right and left input adjustment, two (L+R) large seven segment meters with level controls, line in for recording EQ signal to tape, bidirectional dubbing for two tape decks, you can listen thru the EQ without turning it on, an excellent subsonic filter (18dB/oct @ 15hz) and THD/IM of 0.02%. A good expander wouldn't hurt but that's another discussion. I've used a Pioneer RG-2 since 1981. Interesting video.

    Very nice my friend , I've got a SH GE90 digital sound processor which makes a huge difference in sound quality on analogue amplifiers even more than a regular stereo graphic equaliser , a night and day big difference , not only do you get the nice display graphics window but you have the analogue to digital and digital to analogue converter circuitry built in , wonderful component if you can manage to find one , your system looks great either way 👍

      Thank you! Much appreciated. I actually don't have the vintage setup anymore. It started getting too expensive to maintain and I ended up with a mishmash of newer and vintage stuff, so ultimately something had to give. Still, I enjoyed it while it lasted... and maybe one day I'll go back to it. ;)

      I no longer have the Pioneer as I got rid of my vintage gear about 1.5 years ago. I do still have the modern setup. Unfortunately, space considerations meant that something had to give. The equalizer was probably the hardest thing to give up. I may or may not have another on the way.. ;)

      That's right, I forgot it was available in black too. I got the silver because it matched my setup. • @RUfromthe40s

    hello Matt, let me tell you that the equalizer you have there is also good for vynil records or early cd´s, today cds are mastered to the point that old equalizers seemed to do not change a lot but if you want try to make a equalization and listen to the cd with it ,then listen the same cd with the equalizer off , i think you´ll notice a loss of dinamic, the same thing happened to me, but when having some memorized equalizations ,i noticed that it gives a litle bit of more dynamic, enough to never listen to a cd without the equalizer on, but that V equalization doesn´t change that much ,only in mid frequencies being them low (to the left) or high frequencies to the right ,this when you listen to rock music ,just for the fact that cd´s are really limited on mid frequencies,there are lp´s that i bought the cd version this in late 80´s that i only put them once ,the sound of guitars just aren´t there(they are analog and so are the pedals or effects), but this is a matter of enjoying diferent kinds of music.i´m sure that with time you´ll notice the improvement, in the 80´s there was a flat movement that said ,if you use the effects on your amplifier your changing the work of the producer ,they even start to put in the market amplifiers with a direct line with a led to show you that it was in direct line. what they forget to tell is that not everybody has a studio quality hi-fi system, with an amp that cost around 5.000 dollars and a pair of speakers that may cost around 15.000 dollars i guess no equalization needed ,but to have a great quality sound spending less than 2.000 dollars some effects are needed and those who listen to music with direct input line they miss out at least 70% of the music recorded,so when not rich every hi-fi component who increases music dynamic is welcome. stay safe mr.matt hayes, regards.

      Thank you, Rui. Actually I do use the equalizer for vinyl and CDs too. It's not needed as much for CDs but I like the sound of it anyway!

  • @tapemaster8252
    @tapemaster8252 6 лет назад

    Absolutely, an equalizer is crucial for hi-fidelity sound out any kind of tape machine, and recording digital streams sounds as good open reel machines you will be shocked and amazed,good video:-)

      @MattHayesVinyl  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks! Yeah, I use the equalizer all the time. It's especially good for cassettes and 8-Tracks but it sounds so good I usually use it for vinyl and CD too. I just leave it switched on.

    • @MattHayesVinyl
      @MattHayesVinyl  5 лет назад +1

      Hi, yes I think so. If the button says "CD Direct" that suggests it would bypass the equalizer. CDs shouldn't really need any equalization. It's mostly tape that needs it and sometimes vinyl.

      Sorry, I only have the one and it's definitely a keeper. But you can find plenty on eBay or Craigslist. Depending what you mean by "decent", you should be able to find a good one (Pioneer, Technics, Sansui, Marantz, Sony, etc.) for $100 - $200 shipped. Now, if you don't need one with a spectrum analyzer then you can find them for closer to $50.

    Can you show us how to hook it up to an amp?

    • @MattHayesVinyl
      @MattHayesVinyl  5 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately, I had to downsize and no longer have the equalizer. By far the easiest way is if your amp/receiver has a tape loop circuit, which will usually be called "Monitor" or "Tape 2". This allows the amp to send sound through the Monitor/Tape 2 outputs and receive it back from the equalizer in the Monitor/Tape 2 inputs. The amp will then output to the speakers whatever it gets back from the Monitor/Tape 2.

    Please help, how would I connect a Technics su v40 amplifier to a Teac EQA220 graphic equaliser? Thanks.

    • @MattHayesVinyl
      @MattHayesVinyl  5 лет назад

      Hi there. I am not familiar with your amp's model but, from looking it up, it appears you can use either tape input/output as a monitor. Try both to see which work (maybe they both will). e.g. for Tape 1, connect the Tape 1 outputs to your equalizer's inputs. Then connect your equalizer's outputs to the Tape 1 inputs. In theory you should be able to select any source on the amp and use the equalizer.

      Good question... I suppose because most sellers tend to be pretty good. I mean, I've had bad experiences at restaurants too so, while I might now avoid that particular restaurant, it doesn't mean I'll stop eating out.
