I leek to heek in the mountains when I'm not riding my beek. My younger brother, Meek, still rides a treek. He's a cute little teek, but he still gets scared at night and yells, "Yeeks!" Sometimes he pretends to be a medieval spearman, where any fallen tree branch can become a deadly peek.
The best magic channel. I wanted to make Evershrike work, but when I spent a few minutes thinking about it I just gave up. Well done, this deck is a thing of beauty.
Ad Nauseam is weird. While they are a spell-based combo deck they need at least five and often six or seven mana to win, so fighting their mana is often a good plan (especially for a deck like ours that doesn't have many discard spell or any counterspells).
It's hard to find room for more auras. The problem I found with Edge of Divinity is that while it's sometimes better than Wreath of Giests on Evershrike it's very bad if we have to go all in on another creature.
Individually powerful cards are what makes modern decks legitimate not synergistic spells. Individually weak cards with high synergy are generally not good in modern due to cheap removal being able to take one piece or another.
Commune with the Gods to grab either a creature or Rancor/Wreath? Seems like this deck could use a few ways to get the auras you need to cast Evershrike from the grave. Maybe over Grisly Salvage?
Gotta hand it to ya. I chose Evershrike to make you struggle and it looks like you rose to the challenge. Great work as usual SaffronOlive at once again going against the odds.
I used to play a lovely esper version of this using Tallowisp and a bunch of surprisingly relevant arcane spells and shoals. Wasn't super competitive but it was really good fun and got a lot of advantage.
You know how you know when you're an amazing deckbuilder? When your only loss is to your own deck that you built the previous week. Keep up the format breaking decks Seth!
At 52:39 why not sacrifice Stitcher's Supplier to Viscera Seer in order to get more damage in with the Satyr Wayfinder? Maybe Stitcher's Supplier would mill some creatures, and even if it didn't the Satyr would have at least one more power and Seth would get to scry for something. Maybe even sac Viscera Seer to itself afterwards?
Actually just made a deck using Evershrike in it. We just took a Bogles shell and shoved it plus red mana to help discard the Shrike. It has been running pretty well so far.
lol @ 40:18 " I don't know what is happening... something with a lot of colors..." How many times do you think Seth's opponents have said the same thing vs his 4C against the odds decks?
Seth I hope you'll start puting more basics in the manabase with assassin's trophy becoming legal in modern. It's so painful to see you be out of lands when someone paths you.
No wonder the deck was good. It poops out a massive evasive threat on turn 3 or 4 at instant speed, enabled by some extremely efficient graveyard fillers. It made sense once it got going.
IMO, you should've put at least one Rancor on your Stitcher's Apprentice in M1G3. Then you can attack or use it to block Mutavaults more effectively. Rancor comes back to your hand if your opponent kills Stitcher's another way, if they don't you can get in for 3 damage a turn. Also, this was awesome!
Did you look at a reanimator style deck. You could replace wrath of geisits with journey to where as a way to bring evershrike back for free once and then the land can reanimate every turn. Then replace the bloodghast paladin 8 with goryo targets?
Did you consider noxious revival during your testing seth? grabs back wreath so you can get back evershrike, grisly for enabling, or even sb hate. i might give it the seer slots at least for the first round of tests
I was watching the deck tech, I saw Viscera Seer and i thought "Man... I really wish there was Surveil and not Scry printed on that card...". I'm not a magic pro player, I can't evalute any card to be fair, but I guess it would have fit the theme so nicely...
I think an interesting card for the deck (as a 1 or 2 of) would be Talons of Wildwood from M19. While it isn't one mana and seems underwhelming compared to the two auras already in the deck, it still makes Evershrike a 5/5, it gives trample, and (relevantly) it is an aura you can return to your hand if you put it in the graveyard and don't have any auras in hand. It costs a bunch of mana, but it would mean in games where you're not under a clock but don't have anything going on you can simply dredge into Talons of Wildwood then take a turn or two returning it to hand and reanimating an Evershrike with it. I think it's better than the 3 mana dredge aura since that one requires 5 lands to reanimate Evershrike whereas with Talons of Wildwood it is feasible to take turn 3 off to return it then return Evershrike with it turn 4 if you for instance mill both off Stinkweed. Obviously the card is super bad, but there were a couple time the deck had to luck into a card to reanimate Evershrike when a copy or two of Talons of Wildwood would've made Evershrike an immediate threat (5/5 is still a quarter of someone's life total). Additionally, while less relavant, in a REALLY long game it can be returned to hand then discarded to Faithless Looting for card advantage, but it's more interesting as a way to get an aura from dredging. It could probably replace 1 or both copies of Bloodsoaked Champion since they both sort of do the same thing but Talons is better with the primary plan of the deck and doesn't require attacks.
MTGGoldfish agreed, it is hybrid mana intensive. i thought it was 4 hybrid but its 5 so yeah it might not be as good as it could cause 3 color makes it fairly hard.
@Saffron Olive, I'm wondering if you can do a series in which you revisit decks already played but with improvements. I'd be happy to work with you guys on that series. I think this deck might want 4 Viscera Seer since it can sac your Sitcher's Supplier and protect your creatures from exiling effects and Terminus. I also think you should play Sweltering Suns instead of Anger because you don't want to Anger away your team. The two of Fatal Push seem unnecessary. I think Collective Brutality might just be better, or just replace them with 2 more Viscera Seer. Maybe Talons of Wildwood or Aspect of Mongoose could make the cut. Commune with the Gods is also great since it can find an Enchantment while also binning creatures. Below is my updated list. I haven't yet thought about if your manabase needs to be improved though. // 60 Maindeck // 24 Creature 4 Stinkweed Imp 4 Viscera Seer 4 Stitcher's Supplier 4 Evershrike 4 Satyr Wayfinder 4 Bloodghast // 8 Enchantment 4 Wreath of Geists 4 Rancor // 2 Instant 2 Grisly Salvage // 20 Land 2 Blackcleave Cliffs 4 Verdant Catacombs 4 Bloodstained Mire 2 Wooded Foothills 1 Blood Crypt 2 Overgrown Tomb 1 Stomping Ground 2 Swamp 1 Forest 1 Mountain // 6 Sorcery 4 Faithless Looting 2 Commune with the Gods // 15 Sideboard // 4 Enchantment SB: 4 Leyline of the Void SB: 2 Ancient Grudge SB: 4 Assassin's Trophy SB: 3 Damnation SB: 2 Collective Brutality

Yo what’re your guys’ opinions on nix in modern? One mana counter a spell that cost nothing to cast, deals with goryo, hollow one sometimes, as foretold, all of the pacts
It doesn't deal with goryo, it deals with hollow one sometimes, but bringing in a card that can sometimes counter one specific card is not good, vs as foretold it's not bad, but I would rather play a more flexible counter like negate or spell pierce which can also counter as foretold itself. Ad nauseum plays pact of negation, so nix can only help you force trough your counters and not counter Ad nauseum itself like negate, spell pierce or dispell do. Vs bloomless titan it's still a bit narrow, but probably better than vs the other decks. If your local meta plays the right decks you can try it, but in generall it's terrible.

Fun deck but I feel you missed an opportunity in not running Kolaghan Commands, removal recursion and artifact hate, capable of main boarding, a 1x or 2x would be pretty fine and as a bonus it'd let you get rid of evershrikes if you wished so.
Idea for all your gameplay videos Show the deck record pre and post sideboard to see how it fairs after whatever hate it brought in. Feel like it would be pretty informative.
Oddly, with this deck we lose game one a lot, which is the exact opposite of what you'd expect since opponents bringing in graveyard hate should make things harder.
@@MTGGoldfish That's really bizarre, any idea why? Just variance? Also with the pre and post board idea I didn't necessarily mean this deck exactly but you just pointing out the fact that this deck faired better post board against graveyard hate is interesting and worth noting I believe
Just saying? Ensaring Bridge should not exist. One card hard locks are really stupid. A fixed version of the card would probably be: Creatures cannot attack players or planeswalkers unless their controller pays {X} for each creature they control that's attacking, where {X} is equal to 4 minus the number of cards in your hand. That at least has a little bit of counterplay (they still stack for a hard lock) without the need for mainboard Disenchants.
I feel like building Everskrike you should at least be side boarding Pull From Eternity And yes that means you should be playing more white stuff. Which includes Spirit Loop (which return like Rancor) and Ethereal Armor.
That feeling when the mispronunciation in question is the Against the Odds cards itself.
