Love this deck. I would really like to see the upgraded version because I think it's fun to watch a deck like mill do its thing. It is almost like you are playing a sub-game ^^
It's nice to see more competitive modern decks. The decks you make are always really cool and the fact that they can be accessible to players with lower incomes is great.
People still say mill is just slow burn, but burn will never hit that specical itch of flushing your opponent's answers and combo pieces away in front of their eyes.

Sweet deck holy crap. Daddy’s hand’s crafted this deck, and I’d probably help daddy’s hand by suggesting streaming or announcing future deck plans to get help. Keep it up!

I feel like perhaps Thing in Ice is a good pull here, it doesnt really slow the mill game plan down and provides a good alternate win condition while synergizing with your entirely spell based deck
I this scenario I think you replace tide with thing. Not sure how well it would work but it’s worth testing. Only issue I have is the weakness to removal.
@@wearealreadydeadfam8214 I am by no means a great deck builder, but I have played mill competitively for a while now and while Tide did work well for him, I wonder about the consistency with the limited ability to scry. Thing in the ice didn't work out for me, but neither has Jaces phantasm that well either. It sounds great to have a 5/5 flyer on turn two, but in practice it hasn't worked out the best. A card that can be good, but conflicts with Visions of Beyond is Ensnaring Bridge. I have had some luck with running a lower mana curve mill deck and main decking 3 bridges. If your opponent doesn't have an answer it can buy you a few turns to mill them out. I didn't try to build a budget mill deck though. Again, I am not saying Tide is a bad card, or that Thing is a bad card. They just haven't worked out for me as well as it did for Magic Aids in the video.
Brainiac I have. I built a mono green mill commander deck capable of combo milling a table of infinite numbers of players in two different ways. Also could win with combat damage if someone had shuffle effects like eldrazi titans
Mill was the first deck archetype I ever built, and to this day it's still my favourite. It may not always win the game, especially my commander Phenax deck, but there's nothing like making an opponent salty that they can't even play their deck cause oops it's now all in the graveyard. I'm so happy you brewed this beautiful cancer riddled mill deck for a format I've yet to get into, and done so at a cost that I can afford. Love your channel, and your brews as always!
It's always refreshing to see actual new content rather than just jamming daily videos of playing other people's decks or remade bad versions of yours so they can call it their own...hat's off to you friend #WorththeWait
Please make the non-budget followup video! My friend play's UB Mill in Modern and has been in a bit of a slump, and I think a more finely-tuned version of this decklist in either UB or Monoblue will reignite his drive to keep on milling. Thanks in advance! (Maybe?)
I've been testing it on Xmage, and replaced 8 Islands with 2 each of four different fetches that can grab Islands. Definitely helps enable the Hedron Crabs. I'm thinking of swapping 2 Devastation Tide for 2 Thing In the Ice.
I built it adding fetches, mystic sanctuary so I can re grab a card (I fetch for it) and the archmage charm brazen borrower, and the new send Ilse sea gate restoration. God. It’s all control. ( and new crabs)
My two cents would be to add baral, chief of compliance in side board against humans would be good sense he can counteract the Thalia taxing and block her efficiently sense he is a 1/3 and she being a 2/1. Also adds some value with the counters spells in other matches
Bro you should totally do some more PAF videos. Forgot how awesome these were. Definitely would be a much bigger challenge now as opposed to 2 years ago 😂 love you daddy
This was a super sweet deck! Though it sounds lame, it might be the best possible deck for my girlfriend who, in all honesty, hates violence and the idea of attacking, but thinks cryptic command looks pretty and would likely enjoy winning by taking away an opponent’s ability to kill her.
This was awesome to watch. I've been playing variations of this deck for about 10 years. It started as a Sanity Grinding standard deck back in Lorwyn era, and has evolved and taken different forms a bunch of times over the years, the three main versions being: 1 - Almost exactly this, though this was pre-Mission Briefing, so I was using Snapcaster and or more counters like Remand and Mana Leak, and Twincast to copy the Sanity Grinding (kinda like a Mission Briefing without having to pay again a lot of the time, though I like the new synergies with Devastation Tide). 2 - The U/B version with Glimpse, Mind Funeral, Surgical, 8 Fetches for Crab, etc. 3 - A hybrid between this and the Mono U infinite turns deck you played against where Sanity Grind was the win (this one was my own brew years before either came to prominence). It's interesting to finally see these decks (and my other one, Heartless Myr) finally being legitimized a bit more, because I've been on this jank for so long and I love it dearly. Also, beautiful deck boxes, hopefully I win one. :)
Steven Sheehan if ur gonna replace cryptic, you should prolly go with mana leaks or remands, but it would make the mill card that mills based on blue symbols worse
Dude I swear I love your channel. One of these days you're going to make me plunge into modern and begin my trail of awful financial decisions. Those deck boxes are hella sweet btw. Great work!
So this deck got me thinking. What about a mono-blue or blue based control deck built around archive trap specifically as the sole wincon? 4 of trap, 4 of literal actual baby jace, and 4 of mission briefing. You need to cast 4 traps max to win. Fill the rest of the deck with counters, some draw/filtering/cantrips and interaction like Devastation Tide. A problem that mill has is that a lot of it's cards 'do nothing'. Yeah, they advance towards the deck's win con, but it doesn't actually affect the board state. So minimize the deckbuilding cost of the wincon with cards that can be either a wincon or interaction. Sometimes both. I think this idea might have some legs.
Too slow to kill ; if you leave too much time to the opponent, doesn't matter how many counters you have, they are going to sandbag shits and force through your counters and eventually kill you.
well, maybe, if you have like blue black, and you have like a removal package, counter package, cantrip package, and then the archive traps, but what immediately comes to mind is this; is there any way to repeatedly clear the board? I'm thinking like isochron scepter on damnation kinda. something that can sweep whenever you need it to, and then you only have to worry about countering big stuff. then you can let the lil dorks come down and just eventually mass sweep them away when it's most convenient
That could work; it's a may search so maybe the opponent would only search the first time to get trapped by archive trap, but then after that it might be hard to rely on if you're hoping to mill them out via Path. On the other hand you it does effectively turn into swords to plowshares as far as mill is concerned.
And if you are slplashing white you get the best side board cards. Stony seilence, fragmntize ( for leyline of sanc) , leyline of sanc and a lot more. It also let's you play teferi the VALUE train.
Video 2 means I give you fact #2!! Did you know lobsters are what we call "Biologically Immortal"? That means it cannot die of old age, its cells don't oxidize the same way as ours, they can only die if they run out of food or are killed by an outside force!
do you even know what modern is? Decks are easily over $500, or even a thousand. Fetches are all over $20 and in anything but mono colored, you're running like eight minimum, format staples are over $40 these days and you're complaining about $150 for modern, you'd be lucky to get a meta standard deck that cheap these days with how pushed recent sets have been.
