- Imagine playing in the MAIN EVENT of a major tournament series with millions of dollars on the line, and you just turned a set on the final table. That's exactly what happened in this hand from the Lodge Championship series. But top set holds no guarantees when there's a flush possibility on the board. How would you navigate this situation?

That’s a pretty believable beat actually.
Should have asked the TD to "run it twice".

What a fun title that would be 😂
Lmao I was like “lemme guess, Jack of hearts is gonna be on the board.”
Only someone in the outer circle would make a video like this
Lmao
You're out of the circle Focker!
Was expecting a Q, 6, or 2 board pair on the River (or the case Jack), THAT would have been an "UNBELIEVABLE" bad beat.
Yet how can you expect something that is simultaneously unbelievable? Seems like a contradiction. On the other hand, a set losing to a flush is totally believable, so when the title says "unbelievable", you assume it can't be as simple as a flush over a set. Therefore, when it IS a flush over set, that's unbelievable, precisely because it is so believable and yet advertised otherwise.
Doug with his leveling YT titles and his commitment to balance, you have to respect his game
More like J62 rainbow flop with running hearts lol
Any heart has him crushed not overwhelming favorite with 3 hearts.
I was expecting a river 6 with all the build up
This video should just be called “what happens when you play with jacks” I mean sets getting beat by flushes is just the most normal thing in poker
This is the most standard hand ever.
Turn comes Jack of hearts river comes…J of heart, now that’s unbelievable.
Why go allin AQ with 1 heart has you wrecked 1/5 times? Honestly this is a master class in how to lose with JJ lol 😆
Great stuff Dougy P
I thought Devin was Vanessa Selbst at first😂
This is neither a bad beat, nor is it unbelievable. This hand was pretty much as mundane as it possibly could be.
that isn't top set lol
I know lol 😂😂
The 4 of hearts on the river is total needle from the deck too. If he check calls he gets away from his hand
How is that a bad beat????
a cooler
Doug Polk calls coolers "bad beats" for some reason.
It's not. Not even really a cooler. Just a bad play with Jacks. The correct move for Jacks is to always fold pre flop.. lol. Everyone knows that..
@@geezspot42 you gotta be trolling
@@JayJules12992 it's a joke. Js are always cursed.
If you study tournaments you would never have any open jams here. It’s over 15bb early position. A solver would suggest to min raise your whole VPIP range.
I disagree that you never would shove. Only given the fact the chip leader was UTG off 50 bigs and had folded The rest are 33 bigs and fewer (could be wrong just from what I was trying to catch from the graphics) . You're not folding to a 3 bet shove and protect from inviting in hands such as the one shown cheaply. Flop comes and you're often out of position having to navigate a situation against an incredibly strong field. They're never going to make a noticeable bad play post flop.
Not saying I disagree with yourself , just offering a different viewpoint.
@@paulallen7366 it makes sense, but the hands you are playing from this position are so strong, that you are actually fine with inviting action. When you have JJ, they will never be folding QQ+ or AQ+ (hands that have you in bad shape or flipping), whatever you do. You actually WANT the BB to defend, check fold and give you an extra BB. Or you want him to defend with 98o and flop a 9 and go with it. Or when you have AK, we raise 2bb, BB defends with 77, and check folds on QT2, whereas if we shove our AK, BB calls 77, and we have a 50% chance of busting. I would start playing all ins in this spot around 15bb and below. But JJ will be a 2bb open raise even down to ~11bb. It’s just unlucky A9s outdrew him in such a cooler situation.
@@dgcfgfgfgffgf makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the insight
I think a solver would mix between limp and minraise, but most people don't add that option to their sims.
Admit it, you thought the board was pairing.
426k for first place in a 2 million dollar tournament sounds like a pretty bad deal
What was the buy-in?
Thank God this wasn’t on PokerStars. We’d never hear the end of it.
Unbelievably bad headline
that by definition not even a bad beat... rather a setup
And the unbelievable part is.....?? Coming in part 2 ??
It's like losing money with Coinflex
Daniel R in the #2 seat looks like Goldberg from Mighty Ducks
I learned everything I know about poker from drewbet.
the cowboy hat was a tribute to Doyle
4:52 "you don't really want to do anything other than raise" ... then goes on to say that he shouldn't raise.
I would have called it Polker Hands
because of hisblast name
Please more tournament hands tournament reg here 😂
Been there a bunch of times, feels as familiar and believable as they come
9:10 could have sworn he was about to plug upswing poker
I figured he would turn the flush then board would pair.
This doesn’t make sense Doug. A set losing to a flush? This is a stretch.
UNBELIEVABLY Cruel Cooler In $2,130,000 Poker Tournament - Fixed it for ya!
No weight loss bet for Shaun Deeb against Bill Perkins I guess? :)
This hand is more "lol donkaments" and less "UNBELIEVABLE BEAT!!!!!!11!!!1!!1!!!"
I believe it
I was expecting the jacks to boat up or quads…. That hand is everyday poker Doug… please don’t start with the click bait untrue crap. Love you man
I was expecting a 6 or Q on the River..
Youre on the out, you will never be part of the inner circle
I would have called it Fletz' hands.
What is the weakest your opponent can be and still have u totally dead on the flop?
Top set? What about the Queen 🤦🏼♂️
Airball confusion
3 jacks is top set?
good to see a hand where Devin WASN'T angling a player
Was it really a bad beat though if Christian was well-aware Devin could have made his flush?
This was definitely unlucky on his part, but I wouldn't consider this a bad beat. To me a bad beat is when you head toward the river with a nearly insurmountable advantage over your opponent and your opponent literally only has one or two outs...............and your opponent somehow gets that out on the river.
prefop mistake, push jacks he never call A9
U open with 88 from early position to 2bb, Do u call a 20 bb 3 bet all in from the btn? U have them covered by 7 bb. No ICM implications and u can minus hands like QJ K10 A5 from their shoving range, it’s not super tight but tighter than it should be.
There's other factors to consider , the structure, yours and their images, is it 6 max or 9 max. Finally if you have the potential to be put in an uncomfortable position by raising 88 UTG in the first place, I'd imagine folding cannot be too bad an option.
Assuming 9-max 88 typically is a marginal raise call, if villain is overly tight, you can fold.
@@paulallen7366 it’s bb ante, 8 people. Don’t see how amount of people matter. Like 1 or 2 extra people to act after the btn isn’t going to effect much. Unless ur saying 88 isn’t an open from early position, that would be really nitty unless ur on the bubble. I looked it up, just curious what people think. If they open fold 88 or 99 and worse from early position. makes sense to just start shoving wide like qj off from the btn. Maybe even hands like Ax anything.
@@Wyatt_I yea. I know it’s on border. But what’s surprising is how wide the shoving range is after an open. Like I can’t see people shoving k10s live in situations like that. And since 99% of people are tighter than they should be, makes me wonder what hands that should call. Like is 88 a better call here than AQo? Seems like it.
@@santaclause3487 apologies, I'm tired , my brain somehow read UTG obviously then number at the table becomes vastly more important. But even in your scenario (1 or 2 people extra to act isn't going to affect much) I think you need to brush up on your game theory.
OMFG IS THAT THE CHUBBY KID FROM THE MIGHTY DUCKS!?!!! 😱
is shaun deeb any relation to Freddy Deeb?
Can you not see the resemblance
Where was the bad beat?
Why is that a bad beat...
Did deeb actually make the vet with Perkins? It’s not looking great
IF he would have just called as DOug suggested he might find a fold on that river and survive this by accident . But i dont balme the guy u hit your set yes it is on heart but u still have outs in case and some equity denial is in some cases better .
Is that Goldberg from Mighty Ducks?
I believe this bad beat happened
You need to rip up that felt on that table and get some quality down, infact the lodge looks a budget cardroom needs more money ploughed in to it.
Whats up Doug polk, guys here.
Next video: Crazy unbelievable bad beat, player with top top loses to 2 pair".
Doug, this is why "NOBODYBLIKES YOU, YOURE THE BUTT END OF EVERY JOKE IN INNER CIRCLE, YOURE IN THE OUT MAN".
😂
I'm a player from Brazil and I also make poker videos, I'm very inspired by Doug
If the river was a jack... THAT would be unbelievable not a jack of hearts on the turn
Well it would have to be a Jack turn and Jack river to be unbelievable. This is hardly even a bad beat. Like sure you turned a set but the flush got there at the same time. Then you chose to put it all in. The nut flush losing would be a bad beat to me.
Happens with me everyday.
Isn’t Deeb in a weight loss bet RN??
Isn't this more a cooler than a bad beat? Bad beat would've been if Christian hit the full house on the river after shoving and getting called while fairly far behind.
Sure, it's technically a 'bad beat' given that it's 68% to 32% preflop, but that's basically 2 in 3 to 1 in 3, so it's certainly not unbelievable.
Unbelievable erroneous title
Cybertruck
Wasn't Shaun Deeb on a lose-weight-prop-bet?
It sure doesn't look like it.. 🙄
Dont see how thats a bad beat. I felt like if the board paired on the river it would of been. But brutal turn
Balancing the clickbait range
Come on guys, that is NOT a bad beat. This is at most a cooler. He got his chips/money in way behind and did not suck out. I was expecting a boat on river...
insightful comment
Deebs let himself go
Master clickbaiter strikes again.
Not a bad beat but a cooler
That was an awful jam with a set. Could be a set of Qs.. or 6 or 7 different made flushes. Always call and see if the river makes a boat or a 4 card flush on board... how do amateurs get into such high stakes? I would have hated seeing that J of hearts as soon as it hit. Seemed like an obvious flush hit as well.
How is that a bad beat?
so everyone has to put these stupid shocked face images in the video still, I guess it does something for the algorithm
5:26 Top set for Christian? WTF? Top set is QQQ.
Weird spots dont exsist
Why? He bet so small represents mid or flush draw at the flop. The preflop ok but flop he losing to everything lol. A high flush draw loves that bet sizing make him pay appropriately or flush draws wreck you for min bets who flods A9 suited on min bet 0%, min continuation 0% easily calls low preflop & post flop just hits easily. I can say this with certainty he deserved L. If he bets normally 4 hearts should scare him off at the river he keeps playing.
Mark my words: Justin Saliba will win the Main…
Isn't a bad beat when one player gets all of his or her chips in the pot with a heavily favored hand but the hand loses? I'd call this situation a cooler. A cooler is when a player's hand is too strong to fold, but his or her opponent has a stronger hand. Mr. Polk has forgotten more about poker than I'll ever know, but I think his use of the term "bad beat" is incorrect.
Thats an ambitious preflop flat. Turn small betting in position is not really a thing. Meh
Turn small betting at this SPR when the flush comes in is absolutely a thing.
@@Wyatt_I well sir, I did my homework, and it turns out..
You are absolutely right.
Standard
Yea that's not a brutal bad beat
This is what is called an unbelievable bad beat now? I mean it was all very standard. Common. Boring even.
"Bad Beat:" How come you keep using that word? I don't think it means what you think it means.
What a clickbait... 🥶
With that 2nd place I assume you only have to do YT videos for 82 years to break even?
cooler ✌️
Hi!
Sup with these yards wearing cowboy hats lookin like hipsters just cause they are in texas. They probably go eat bbq at franklins and go to the brewery as well😂they don’t know what it is to be a cowboy😂
*tards
brokebacking on the mountain ranges?
Im over here expecting quads or a full house on the river and.. the flush holds up..
Clickbaiting like a mofo.
First😊
Click bait. These beats happen every orbit just about lol
Come on DP, these clickbait titles are out of hand getting old fast
It's super weird that Brad Owens is so likeable and you are so unlikable. I literally route for you to lose every hand I see you play on here.
I’ve never played at a casino but I know numbers and I become very good at all card games I play. I have watched 1000’s of hours of poker videos. Flushes are far more likely than the math says they are especially on the river. Especially against a one sided straight. Obviously these graphics knows everyone’s cards and the real odds but I see far more flushes than straights.
these clickbaits are getting on my nerves
6:05'ish, she says he doesnt want a heart, even though a heart is less likely to pair up the board XD
Commentator said top set 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦
