  • This is one of the sickest poker coolers of all time. The flop creates a set over set encounter between Daniel Negreanu and Gus Hansen. The turn brings in QUADS for Gus, setting up DNegs for a soul-crushing result on High Stakes Poker.

Used to play a lot and steadily got to a point where i beated low to mid stakes tournaments on stars and once i made $25k profit in half a year which was a huge deal for me at the time while studying. It turned out it was a bad fold because he had an over valued overpair. He was a very tight player but something went off inside him and just donked it all away and i folded like a monkey. I was the laughing stock of the cardroom for a few months. it was also back in the days when this episode was filmed originally :)

56 at least blocks quads if you had that over 66 to call 66 has to be maybe the worst call

Nah, the small bet is perfect. 1. Say Negs is floating, you want to bet small so that he keeps floating or decides to pull of a strong bluffing move like reraising. 2. Say that Negs has a decent hand like tens, you want him to call instead of check and lose potsize value. 3. Say that Negs has a strong hand like a full house, you want to bet small, as if it's a feeler bet with like tens or a draw, to give him the opportunity to reraise and try to get value out if you. Betting small like a third to half the pot has too many good reasons for many types of hands, whereas checking loses value or makes it too obvious you're trapping with the nuts and betting big is just asking to get minimum value out of a lot of hands Negs could fold. In fact I didn't even like the check at the river, the only reason why Negs still called is because he felt cheated on by the poker gods and wanted to complain and whine about how unfair it all is. If Gus would make a small bet there, Negs would raise, maybe even all in.

"Gus is going to lose a lot of money in this hand! The only thing that can save him is a 7 or an 8."
    Or a 5, Gabe. You forgot about a 5.
