James, that noise would have driven anyone batty. Great job not letting the heat prevent you from doing the work. I love your tenacity. Sounds like you have many more mods and vids. to do. Have fun.
Brilliant video. So, my 991.2 Turbo S cab doesn't have that problem, but I want to remove the back seat to fit some homemade cushions and dog harness for my Golden Retriever. Your video helped me perfectly. I just wish there was a proper custom-made dog seat cover for the 911.....and please nobody comment about allowing a dog in the 911. It's a car, an amazing car, but it's just a car. Cheers mate.
Haha, you’re red as a traffic light... You can jump to green now 😉😄 Good you got rid of the noise! I’ve once tracked a rattle for over a month in my 997 but finally found and solved it, oh that feeling of victory!
Hey James so far my kludge fix is working well, I’d say it 90% cured the problem. If I push really hard on the console lid with my elbow I can get it to squeak, but normal use of the car it’s silent.
Had the same issue as James and I was about to do the same thing but I decided to stop by my local Porsche dealer and ask a service advisor what should be done. I have a 991.2 GT3 which I still service at the dealership. He knew immediately what the fix is- some lithium grease on the two legs of the locking mechanism. After he put the great the noise is gone. The lid is touching the storage box underneath only at the hinge and in the front where is locking and the two rubber points next to the locking mechanism. It is made to flex a bit if you push on it when getting out (specially on a car like mine with the one piece sport seats) so the noise is made by plastic on plastic in the locking section. In the rest there is no contact so felt will not do anything...
So James I had the part from Gaudin, watched the video many times and made my attempt. But...I noticed where the console lower cover was squeaking on my car, and I was able to fix it just by bending the front part of the lower cover down. So I didn't have to remove it or take out the rear seat! I'll monitor for a few days and see if the squeak returns! :-)
@@AutoAmateur I'll hold off returning for now this may not be a permanent fix! It's an odd design actually the from lip on the armrest lower cover sits on the raised edge of the metal trim.
I had a similar problem. The source of the squick was rubbing of the plastic parts to each other. So I cut and stick 3mm thick felting underside the opening lid where it met with fixed base. The squick has gone and I don’t see the felting since it is underneath the opening lid.
Hey Mick! Yeah; this past month has been a BEAST! I’ve been traveling for work pretty much non-stop. I’ve got two videos in progress and I hope to be able to publish them in the week or two. Thanks for checking in! Appreciate it!!
Nice job! I hate squeaking cars. The rear seats come out surprisingly easy. I may take mine out and leave them out. Replacing them with a roll bar, GT3 style... hmm.
Thanks for an informative and useful video James! My guess would be the squeak came from a bit of play at the hinge of the old lid. The new lid probably doesn't have any play. P.S. your wireless drill is set to hammer action, rather use the screw mode for screws, and drill mode for non-concrete drilling. Cheers mate!
Success! James your mechanical skills are getting finely tuned. Great job, that creaking was totally annoying and looks like it's a common wear issue on the 991. Always wanted to ask, why isn't the garage door open when it's that hot? Must be better for videotaping if closed☺
Exactly. No noise from any trucks or cars going by and stops my neighbors wandering by and chatting while I’m in the middle of filming something. Maybe I need an A/C next!
Love your videos man! Where did you get the center console lid with the porsche crest? The one I found was $500 and after seeing your video, there's not much to the cover.
Awesome feeling when you fix something that’s been annoying younfor a while. Good stuff!! Keep that ass, back, and sack cool!!😂🤣. That one thing I hate about working on cars, especially on Texas. The heat is maddening!
:-) That would have driven me NUTs!! Sorry, the dry silicone wasn't the genie in the bottle, Hahaha. Love watching your videos!! I could only imagine what your wife was saying!! Lol
Great video James! I have the same squeak in the 991 I just bought and will try to fix as instructed here. Two questions: 1. Do I need to buy a new lid as well as the part you changed, or is the lower section replacement sufficient? 2. Where is the best place to get this part online? Thanks!
Hey James, new subscriber and my 2015 911 C2, 17,000km, does the exact same thing. Dealership said it was caused by the leather cleaner that happened to get on the plastic and is causing the rubber nubs on the lid to squeak... anyways, I solved it by putting a pair of adhesive pads under the rubber nubs and it seems to have stopped it for now. Glad to know, if I ever have to change it I can use your awesome DIY. By the way, you stated on another video about the #911brotherhood (when I search it I only get the twin towers 911 survivors/first responders come up). Where can I get involved in this 911brotherhood scene - I’d like to start posting RUclips videos on mine. Talk soon! - this is the name of my channel, Capital Exotics
Hey! Thanks! Search for #997brotherhood and #991brotherhood , you might have more luck. Thanks for the heads up about the adhesive pads and the squeaking. Great idea!
I think that’s the best part of getting a new car (tinker toy). Fixing and changing things.
James I did this fix today and I didn’t sweat at all! 😝
Terrific instructions thank you so much!
Hey Shahid!! That’s great!! I’m glad it worked out for you. Cheers! 🥳🥳🥳

Sooo satisfying fixing things like that. Especially when you did it yourself. Great video.

Great video! Was able to install my new center console panel without a hitch. Thanks!!!
Glad it helped! Nice one!
Thanks to you and Cam for this. Gonna tackle it today.

Hi James. I just got this from sun coast parts. Did you need longer hex bolts ?
