it's bomb after a one two
it's great für smaller people with shorter reach
it gives you distance (against a weapon wielding opponent)
you can use it while holding a barrier (shieldlike weapon of opportunity like a stool or a backpack or laptop) between you and a knifewielder
it shoves people out of your escape route

As an experienced street fighter (with no formal training) I can rank my top 5 kicks with relative confidence, but in no specific order:
    1. Stomp. Use this when your opponent is on the ground. I would usually recommend avoiding jumping, as it can cause you to trip over, but if your opponent is unconscious, a jumping stomp can work very well. I also classify jumping and landing on your opponent on your knees as a form of stomping.
    2. Head kick. Use this when your opponent is on the ground. This kick can harm your foot and it's usually inferior to stomping, but it can allow you to kick their teeth in as they're defending the sides of their head.
    3. Front kick. A powerful kick that doesn't require you to stand in a fighting stance, which means you can throw it out of nowhere to an unexpecting target. This kick also works wonders when targeted at the opponent's knee.
    4. Kick to the balls. A powerful classic that can be used much in the same way as the front kick. This attack can immediately incapacitate your foe, and you can proceed to stomping almost directly after.
    5. Flying kick. This one works especially well when done stealthily from behind. It's an incredibly strong attack, and it's always fun to land it beautifully to an unexpecting target.

Years ago I was trained by a great sense I. He taught me that the best way to lose a fight is to fight the other fighter’s fight. That is what is happening to many fighters. They are gravitating to a brawlers open Muay type stance, Trading blows from an open type stance.I have always preferred a modified a Japanese stance that is mobile and let’s one shift from front snap kicks to side kicks , to a 45 degree round house which is shorter and faster than a full round house. It also lets you turn slightly and fade back out of hand techniques and lets you fire off a very fast rear thrust kick , which if done correctly go the solar plexus as your opponent comes in, will take the wind out of his sails. So in summary, most useful kicks in a street fight. Front snap and thrust, side kick, especially a low stop kick to the knee , done off to the outside and in, it pops the knee right out. The spinning wheel is deadly fast and powerful. There are a couple of others, one that works well in street clothes is a shelf kick. Derived from Savage , it is used to counter a jab. As the jab comes out it is fired under the arm into the ribs .

From experience, most bar/street fights can be ended with a well placed front snap kick. If they don't know you have kicks in your arsenal and catch them off guard, it's pretty much over. Even better if you can add a slight hop while faking the chamber in your lead leg. I hate to use the crane kick as an example but basically that without standing there yelling I'M ABOUT TO DO A JUMP KICK. I've ended a couple of fights this way.

I love that 1,2 back leg round. People are typically backpedaling/circling from the 1,2 and don’t see the kick coming. Also, as many have stated, should of added a front-kick, even a thrust kick. 1,2 thrust works wonders, especially if they’re against a barrier to rebound off of. Your 1,2 sets your hips in position, and their hands are up by their face from blocking…

I have also worked in the security, crowd control and body guard industry for over 40 years and had thousands of street fights.
I am yet to use a kick in a street fight which on many occasions has caused me to re-evaluate how i train...But I love the kicks so they still remain a critical part of my training and teaching.

I would say that a teep (front kick) is also good for a street fight, just because you usually won't start a street fight in a bladed stance. I would also say that a teep mechanically is a much easier kick to learn/throw than a side kick, so if you're looking for kicks you can throw as the average joe or moderately trained guy, the teep is great.
One thing I would point out is that roundhouses require conditioning that, if you're not used to kicking with them, can really hurt you more than your attacker if they don't land right. Whether you strike with the foot or the shin, your kick can backfire hard, especially if you're in a chaotic situation where you can't be sure your kick will land clean. A teep/sidekick has the benefit of landing with the bottom of your foot, which is naturally toughened from you walking on it.

Awesome video! Though I'm surprised not seeing front kick in the video. With point of contact either with the heel or the ball of the foot (in TKD). Since the kick requires less or no rotation of the grounding leg, it is less likely to slip and fall. This kick minimizes the big reason why kicks are bad on the street, terrains (weather). And the mentioned points of contact are easier to train, less likely to miss, and more forgiving if you miss em

I believe in kicks in a streetfight if you've drilled them substantially. Know that the "buck fever" will set in and that can effect your dexterity a little. The low roundhouse and side kick are definite musts, and front piercing kicks of any kind too.

    • @gregortheoverlander4122
      @gregortheoverlander4122 2 года назад

Yeah, it's really about what you've drilled.
The one two high kick/body kick would be my go to because I've thrown it thousands of times.
I think side kicks for karate guys are really good because they've thrown that thousands of times.
I personally would never throw a spinning kick or side kicks because, while I can do them in a gym setting, my rep numbers are not in the tens of thousands like with the thai leg kick, body roundhouse, or high roundhouse.

How do you miss the push kick? It's so old it was used in Ancient Greece, it's so easy to do and can counter more or less most kicks because it has a direct line of entry rather than swinging from the side.

    • @jestfullgremblim8002
      @jestfullgremblim8002 3 года назад

Exactly!! But people say that it is no good for street fights because they can grab your leg or you because you may slip and get your face stomped in.
Even tho both of those scenarios are posible, they are not common. grabbing legs is allowed in a lot of martial arts and you rarely see a push kick being grab, and as it is just a push kick, it is rare to see someone sliping while throwing it, unless they are in a wet marmol floor lmao

I love love LOVE that you stressed practicing each kick for the sake of practicing each kick and that by doing so it allows you to throw them in different circumstances!
I'm a forms guy, so I'm definitely a bit biased, but this is always my argument when people say practicing forms/patterns/kata is pointless. No, it's not! Forms give you that repetition and practice so that you can build your technique and muscle memory, which in turns allows you to throw good kicks in high pressure situations!

One kick followed by the other, not a front dropkick) and round kick... The double front one is crazy efective to cover distance, the jumping spinning back kick i use while retreating when someone charges in, the side kick is to keep the distance, hook kick is for when i already threw more than 2 side kicks and they might try to catch my leg... Round kick is to either the calf, thigh, ribs or head.... But i aim with the hard part of my shoes...

First, I should let y'all know I'm not just a martial artist, I am a fighter who's been in many street fights since I was 10 years old, and the first fight I had was the only one I've ever lost. And I'm Canadian soooo what I'm telling you is from actual fight experiences.. That being said, My buddy was Israeli and his father taught him a lot of Krav techniques.. When we would play around at lunch I would practice karate kicks on him and he would show me that quick front snap kicks are more than for striking an opponent. He would kick my foot away from him easily. So then we'd get into this whole thing where we'd throw kicks at each other and we'd both kick each other's feet away with quick snap crescent kicks. People used to empty the arcade to watch us train and have fun teaching each other, cheering us on.
Another thing you can do about that side kick.. Well, first.. The side kick, doesn't have to be put in a mid section.. The Foot and Shin are prime close targets. Step in and forcefully walk in while throwing a quick low kick to the foot or shin. For the amateur's it's very important to get that knee up fast and direct. It is your aim, your safety. The faster the knee comes up the faster you get off that quick kick and it's also good training for you know.. Knee's. My, I'm 6'4 so I pivot hard on my hips bringing my top weight down a little which helps me bring up that knee really quick and for me after 35 years of Martial Arts it's actually easier for me to side kick to the throat than it is for me to jab.. And faster.
Also.. I would take out the running or jumping side kick. A single step side lunge kick is more devastating and you wont get caught as easy. One quick side step planting your off foot and using your opening momentum to launch your kick as hard as you can into your target. I remember I showed that to my brother and friend who came to class to watch me perform my duties as Sensei's Senpai.. With that little move I kicked my buddy holding the pads and sent him back about 5 feet and I look over at my Sensei to see if he approved.. He was watching me and my techniques. That's why he picked me to be his Senpai at 15 years old.
My fourth kick would be the forward crescent kick but against my brother, it was useless.. I kicked him right in the face one time he was attacking me.. He just laughed. It wasn't until I really began striking through my target that he began to feel my strikes and become weary of attacking me.
I grew up fighting brawlers and scrappers that had to rely on being quick and deliberate because they had no formal fight training, but they still were good fighters that could knock you out if you get careless.
My last kick would be the basic stomp only to be used in life or death situation as your going to really hurt your target.
If you turn your back on someone like my brother he will rush you and capture you, slam you to the ground pound you in the back of the head before you get off the rotation..
Me, I'll just step back and let you waste your energy..

I've used low kicks to great success in a street fight once. I was around 14 was talking to a girl online, she told me that she was single but she was actually had a boyfriend. He found out that her and I were talking and wanted to fight. I had been training mma for about 6 months at that time and was a bit of a hot head so I took him on it.
We were set to meet up at a mutual friends house the next day. I didn't know the guy I was supposed to be fighting so I asked my buddy who's house we were meeting at about him. My buddy said that he was 16 and around my same weight but taller and he had the long arms. I started getting a little worried he was 2 years old then me and bigger, I had some training but I was starting to doubt that it was enough.
The next day I met up at my buddies house and I guess the word had gotten out about the fight. There was a group of 10-15 kids there waiting at the baseball field that was right behind my buddies house. I knew a few of the kids that were there but the majority were strangers so I was worried that I was going to get jumped. I talked to my buddy and he assured me that nobody would jump in, he knew most of them. We waited for awhile and finally the kid I was supposed to fight pulled up in his car with the girl we were fighting over.
He took off running at me and throwing wild punches and got me in a "bully head lock." I picked him up and slammed him hard on the back of his head. I was ready to used some of the ground skills I'd practiced but all the kids watching were yelling at us to stand up. We got up and he rushed forward, I landed 2 or 3 leg kicks and was surprised at how damaging they were. He was starting to slow down a lot. He was pressuring forward so much before but now he could hardly move. I threw one more low kick as hard as I could and that was it. He crumbled, the kid couldn't even stand up.
The fight was over and I was shocked at how damaging the leg kicks were. In mma we always sparred with shin guards on so I knew the low kicks hurt but I didn't realize how debilitating they could be to somebody who's legs weren't conditioned.
I saw the kid a few years later at a house party. We made up and we were talking about the fight. He told me that he had never felt pain like that before and that it felt like his leg got his with a steel pipe. He said that he couldn't walk right for 3 or 4 days and that he had a deep bone bruise for over a week.
I guess the morale of the story is to believe in your training and don't be intimidated. I wasn't interested on writing a novel today but thank you to anyone that made it this far. 😅😂

I'm surprised that you didn't include the good ole Front Kick. A heel stomp to the floating ribs can do a lot of damage and is probably the lowest risk kick of them all. I'm not even worried if my leg gets caught...what's the worst that can happen? If he knows how to sweep my supporting leg, well that's a danger for every kick. Otherwise if he catches my leg he's now preoccupied with my leg for the next second or two and that usually gives me a free punch.

He got into some words with a group of lads outside a club and decided to do a flying side kick to teach them a lesson. Problem was that he was absolutely wankered, and the sight of him drunkenly hurling himself through the air and landing ribs-first on the concrete a few feet short was so funny to the group that they didn't even fight and just walked away.
Cost him some painkillers, but was much less than the kicking he would otherwise have got, so a flying side kick saved him that day!

The low swing kick is often used, typically thai not dutch style though. sidekicks too in the tkd days, one to the chest acts like a teep, moves the guy off and stops the fight. Most wont expect it cuz it doesnt require much loading n the trajectory is atypical of a street situation, unlike the typical swing kick. The backthrust is really more of an in-fight countermove. The 1-2 is not often used in the street, its usually a R n scramble, even for boxers, they go straight for the R ko.

What’s about straight front/push kicks? I think doorkeepers use it a lot. Even if you block it or get your arms in front of it, it will show impact and you create lots of space between you and your enemy. Maybe a little bit easier compared to the reverse hook kick.
