FYI, the I-pace most efficient mode for roadtrip is dynamic, if the car has air suspension. Because in Dynamic mode it lowers itself at highway speeds and thus reduces drag. Also the GOM shows higher range when switching from Comfort to Dynamic, and actually no change at switching from Comfort to Eco. This is explained in Jaguar manual, should anyone ever bothered reading it.
Good to see the Jaguar do well here and the results tally with my experience. It would be interesting to see how wheel size on the iPace affects its efficiency. Ours has 22” wheels, though there is an option for a smaller wheel with a massive tyre wall on the iPace.
Great video, thank you. The rolling circumference and the tyre pressures will affect the accuracy of the speedo as well as the distance measured. A slight variation is always detected, when comparing different cars, but tyre choice is always factor. Thanks again.
Informative and well presented, as usual. Interesting to see the comparative data on these three cars. One point though - It looked like the jag led the convey for most of the time. This will have given the other two cars the benefit of a slipstream, even if not following bumper to bumper, so their economy will have been improved. Next time you do such a comparative drive, and I hope you will, how about rotating the order so all have the same share of leading?
Odometer reading differences can result from differences in how new the tyres are. Speed and distance calculated by vehicle use wheel rotation, which is based on rolling circumference of the tyres, which will decrease as the tyres wear, meaning on older tyres the speed and distance will be an overestimate.
Would love to have quicker charging on our Kona, those speeds are very impressive! Great video, the only way to get a comparison, the same journey in convoy
I love these 'stat-y' videos... really appeal to the EV anorak in me...! And, whilst I don't like SUVs - their "brick-like" styling making them vastly less efficient than a more regularly styled car / estate - I have to take my hat off to the amazing charging speed of the e-Tron...! In real world, hauling-ass-up-the-motorway journeys, that ability to charge faster for much longer is absolutely the way forward. Lets hope that battery tech makes its way on to more affordable EVs in the very near future. Great video... :-)
If I could afford it I'd love an I-pace I think it's a great looking car that seems fun to drive and decent on range and charging. Another great video love these range tests/comparisons.
There is a Norwegian ev guy on RUclips uses special app to monitor consumption and he mentioned once that besides limiting the AC, the range mode warms up the battery to a level (over 40 degrees) where it is the most efficient but it is not good for the battery in a long term, it means it’s wearing out the battery more. It’s too bad I bought a Model S and the previous owner used it on range mode as I used on range mode on shorter journeys until now.😅 After 118k miles I have 191miles range 70 kw battery pack.
Just wondering if you realised you had superimposed the Jaguar figures over the Audi and vice versa? Really interesting and informative video as usual, Thank You
What are your thoughts on the very fast charging of e-tron (and Porsche) in the long run? Will the batteries degrade faster than other cars? It seems a bit extreme and the batteries are not that different to other cars as I understand it...
It’s not so much about the batteries, it’s the thermal management or how well the batteries can be kept at their optimum 25-35 degC while fast charging. The Audi has an excellent system that can remove the heat effectively. They all use Lithium Ion batteries with slightly different chemistries, but e-tron and I-pace use pouch-cells whereas the MX uses thousands of smaller 18650 cylindrical cells.
Time will tell. No reports of degradation or issues as yet. The etron is very consistent charge pattern every single time. Others always see to vary much more based on temps etc
Interesting that the Audi and Jag were showing different speeds and distance travelled. Most likely due to tyre/wheel size, pressure, tread etc. Not sure if both are on their standard size wheels? Maybe a slightly inaccurate calibration on one of them (prob one with the larger wheels and tyres).
I just went and tried these 3 cars a few weeks ago, to compare them. To me, the Jaguar was awesome to drive and insanely fast! It felt even faster than what the stats say and the quality of the car feels really great as well! But it doesn't feel very large, if it is to be used as a family car... The E-tron is so unbelievably quiet and comfortable to drive and just feels like a lovely, luxurios place to spend time. It's also quite a large car so would do well as a family car, I think. The Model X was just appalling! I think it had something like 50.000 km. on it, but it really felt like it was falling apart when you drove it. Everything rattled and creaked, the drive was noisy, the front axles made a weird noise, it was terribly put together both inside and out, etc... I really wanted to like it, because it is a fun car with all the gadgets, the cool cabin layout, the crazy doors and so on. Also it's the largest car of the three, so again, would be a good family car. But my God, I could never live with the terrible build quality. It felt like driving an old, beat up van almost... Does anyone share the same experience, or was I extremly unlucky with the Model X i tried..?
Tesla's are at the bottom of the JD Powers and Consumer Reports surveys because the quality is poor. Lots of technology but poorly put together. Ok to drive for a day or two but I definitely would not put down real money for one.
@@almac9203 I simply can’t understand how people can bring themselves to spend that amount of money (The Model X is quite and expensive car, in my opinion) on a product that feels this terrible… Maybe I was just extra unlucky with the one i tried, but in no way did it feel like a premium product. I mean, maybe if the Model X was half the price of the E-tron, would it have been somewhat acceptable…
Love these videos. That Audi charges ridiculously fast 😳🤯 I'd probably get it if I were to choose out of the 3. I-Pace 2nd. Model X 3rd but only cause its got the smaller battery.
75D is the lowest range X and its a heavy car. ipace and etron have 90-95kwh batteries vs tesla 75kwh so lighter, faster to charge on a home charger as the battery is 25% smaller. P100D would go much further (and cost a lot more!)
Glad to see Jaguar keeps its sporty culture, even in a small SUV style. And would expect it to be more ‘sporty’ than the Etron given the Etron is about 1000 lbs heavier.
I’m really interested in the etron but is it a no brainer to stretch the budget to the 55 as there are some great deals on the 50s albeit a lot less power and less range just wondered if you feel it’s still useable ?
All depends how often you do longer journeys. The 50’s do only have a c. 160 maybe 180 mile range, but again charging is pretty decent to make up for it
Was intrigued by the difference in eco mode and full power modes Tesla chill mode is that more economical than full power? I doubt that i think just be thoughtful on acceleration. And keep the regen on standard 😂😂.

Another great video. Have ordered an e tron since I subscribed to your channel. Model X over budget, iPace lacks the boot space and rapid charge on vert long trips.
Interestingly, Jaguar litterally has a badge AWD. Also all other cars are specified by manufacturers as AWD. Yet in UK, as all over Europe, no distinction is made vs 4WD thus everybody, even in this video folks lump up all in one notion as 4WD.
Electric vehicles are just better. No noise, no emissions, less fuel costs, less maintenance costs and amazing technology. Gasoline and diesel are OLD polluting technology. So last century. Hydrogen is a waste of time and money. Electric cars, electric trucks, electric buses, electric trash haulers, electric snow blowers, electric lawn mowers, electric snow mobiles, electric water craft, electric garden tools, electric mechanic tools, electric motor cycles, electric bicycles, electric scooters, electric farm tractors, electric construction equipment, electric delivery vehicles, ...... everything is going electric. No worries about starting after sitting for a few months. Gas always needs repairs.
Actually electric powertrain in vehicles is an older technology than ICE but younger than steam powered ones. The computer technology coupled with ok-ish but livable battery technology made the their resurgence possible. I believe much cheaper and better battery technology is going to vastly sway consumers to use EVs from now on. Sadly enough in some parts of the USA, like in my case, people are still annoyed by the use of two strokes engines ICE golf carts aroud golf courts which are just horrible by their smell. The latter is the proof that technology penetration is still patchy worldwide.
It's a big heavy car that's not the best shape with a smallish battery (75kWh). Decent range for the type of buyers it would attract (school runs, shopping, people that stay local) while also having the 'imagine'
Tesla always overstates their range. Edmund's has real world range figures for most EVs in America. Every Tesla underperformed its stated range according to Edmund's.
Yes this was comparing what you can get for similar money on the used market at least. X90 and 100d’s are simply more expensive. In terms of range, an x90d i usually work out getting about 190-220, and the 100d about 230-250 in real world.
Tough one, depends on usage. For me, doing lots of long distance the etron because it charges faster. For many the iPace because it’s more agile, more fun.
Personally I wouldn’t switch just yet as availability of fast charging with the integration into the car navigation trumps for me, but I’m really interested to get back out and see how much that has changed in the last year. (Mileage has reduced about 95% in the last year), Ive had trouble free motoring with Tesla but I imagine the Audi build quality is significantly higher, I like the jag as well though. Anything but a last century ICE!
The incorrect speed must be done on purpose. The reason can’t be anything other than trying to cheat something or other. Imagine if Jaguar made speed cameras and it read different speeds to an Audi one etc? It’s basically dieselgate and should be stopped.
Most Speedos over read by about 5 to 10 percent. Comparison to GPS which is accurate my worst showed 70 at 65mph and my best 70 at 68mph. My current Leon is doing 67 when the Speedo shows 70. It helps reduces the chance of accidentally breaking the limit by 1 or 2mph makes people drive slower than they think. At 30 if I drive through one of those signs that shows your speed it's actually about 28.
FYI, the I-pace most efficient mode for roadtrip is dynamic, if the car has air suspension. Because in Dynamic mode it lowers itself at highway speeds and thus reduces drag. I wish you would have used a 90 Kw model X. This would put the batteries at a more level starting point.
Or maybe a Model Y which is closer in size to the other two.
I think Jaguars are setup with conservative speedometers - my XE is the same as your I-Pace.

My understanding is that in the UK, by law, car companies have to overestimate the speed shown on the display, and have a tolerance of up to 10%.
