Scott that wasn’t boring. Very informative and way less complicated than other videos posted by companies trying to flog their wares. Great info for me as a beginner paint corrector. Thanks.
Man I really appreciate your videos. You have a very simple, realistic approach to work. It makes me feel like we're a team and your just being a great guy and helping me out! Thanks so much!!
I'm a newbie to polishing and waxing my boat. I finished a day of compounding and waxing and was wondering if I could clean these pads. I watched other videos which seemed too complicated or expensive. Using your method, I now have clean reusable pads and it only took me a few minutes to do all three including the wool cutting pad. Thank you so much for sharing this simple, gentle and effective method. I'll go watch your other videos now.
You read my mind I washed all of my pads it's the same way. The microfiber pads that I use for the compound washes out right away I only use the soap to get the little bit of residue. Those Griot's Garage pads wash like a dream. I love them so much. Thank you for not making it rocket science to wash a pad. Thats all you have to do and let them air dry overnight.
I have learned sooo much from Scott just in the last few months. I have always been a gear head, but always been terrible at keeping my cars and trucks tip top. Keep the good content coming.
This is how I always wash my pads, however, I found it's easier to rinse them with a bucket of clean water or the other side of the sink (plugged and filled with clean water). You hold the palmolive-saturdated pad under the clean water and squeeze it several times and it rinses much faster this way instead of having running water hitting it. Just my experience.
This is by far the best way to clean pads. Not only doses it clean the pads thoroughly, it actually makes the bad a bit more flexible. I’ve washed my pads like this and gotten a ton of use out of one pad.
Thank you Scott! I'm adding polishing to my new business. I was going crazy figuring how to maintain my pads. I'm like pads are so expensive. This saves money and assures better results on the job. You're much appreciated. I can always depend on your tutorials
brilliant, after watching this video I tried it myself, and mate its the best way ever. I will never go back to my old method, cheers and a big thank you from the UK
Thanks. This restored a few older pads I had from when I buffed my car a few years ago and never properly cleaned them. They look almost as good as new now
Great info Scott! Tip I found, after you are done with the cleaning, switch to cold water to rinse the soap out of the pad faster. Cold water cuts soap quicker than hot.
I gotta say, I was a little skeptical considering what all is offered out there as a "professional cleaner/cleaning system", but this seems to work amazingly. I used Dawn instead of Palmolive, because that's what I already had at home, and it was a HUGE difference. I'll know the final result tomorrow once they're dry, but all looks good so far.
I'm very new to detailing and I just work on my cars and my kids cars. I use Griots exclusively. How your washing your pads is exactly how I clean mine only I've been using Dawn. And yes sir it takes longer for the soap to dissipate. I'll try palmolive. I thank you for letting me know I'm doing it correctly. Aloha
I was just about to restock my pads since I ruined my old ones by sticking them in the washer on hot. Thanks Scott. Now I know how to wash them. You have the common sense that I lack.
Just finished polishing and waxing a customers vehicles was about to wash my pads and this popped up how funny. Pretty much how I did it besides the warm water! Thanks Scott!
Great info as usual Scott. I really appreciate your knowledge and experience in helping us be better at maintaining our vehicles. Cheers from Ottawa Canada.
Scott, what about leaving them to soak for a while in warm to hot water? And what about in the washing machine with a quick wash and warm to hot water? Sorry about the silly questions. Best regards buddy
Thank you for this video. I was wondering how I was going to wash my Meguiar's foam pads. With everything closed down right now I couldn't go to a laundromat to wash it. I just finished washing them with Ajax dish washing soap and it worked perfectly.
I soak pads in a bucket of water from the bottom of my hot water heater with a half bottle of palmolive. Remove them when the water cools to 100deg, rinse and ring them out twice. Clean and still work like new, pads last forever.
Right on , I have been Diluting the Dawn in my Sink way down just so it will come off the Damn pots and pans maybe cut down your Dawn and see if that work Ill give old Palmolive a try
Love your videos. It's important to protect the pads, thanks for the tips. I am now predicting a Nationwide shortage on Palmolive dish soap... Power of Scott recommendations! Lol.
Hahaha, I just finished cleaning some pads, and wondered if there was an easier way to do it. Looks like there isn't! I did it _exactly_ the same way, right down to the Palmolive! I found the same thing with Palmolive, it seems to rinse far more thoroughly and I like the smell.
I'm a detail shop manager and I literally have a shitty old orbital I use to get excess water out of my pads after cleaning. Lol. Just let her rip on level 6 till you don't see mist anymore, let them dry on the drip tray. You'll be cutting and polishing again in no time. That you oberk sole one step. Life saver
I fill my bucket with hot water, and a little soap. Let the pads soak for about 30 minutes, and then hand wash in the same manner. I always blow out the pads with air once I am done with a panel, then into the bucket. Key for me is air drying them in the sun.
great advice! I'm just getting into doing real polishing on my cars. good advice to use a clean pad for each panel. and this is a good method to keep them clean. I'll have to order some more pads and do it right.
I always and i mean always --and i highly recommend this , get my wife to do any washing up. Its what she loves and what they were made to do. Its a win win.
you are correct about the pad washers not fully cleaning the pads plus if you dont use onr its going to leave cleaner residue in there. I dont recommend dish washing liquid. it discolours and makes the pads feel rougher. citrus at 5-10% maximum strength is better.
Alright I have drunk all the cool aid... washed my micro fibers in All and now I have a bottle of Palmolive his for my pads....you were absolutely correct on both !
yes, i think filling that sink up adding soap and a few pads at a time ..then rinsing would be great way... maybe do it in 3 stages... kinda like a washing machine would, but by hand would be less abusive on pads...
Great video Scott. Not boring at all. I now know to get that last bit of crud out of my pads. Just one question do you use the same method for microfibre pads? TIA. Lloyd
Almost 100k subscribers. I was here when you had 20k lol. Great job sir. Been here for most of the journey. Appreciate all you’re knowledge and sharing! Here’s to 200k!!👍🏻
almost wired u made this video...I literally was washing my pads yesterday thinking I wonder how scott does it....boom like a god u responded lol. thanks buddy
I would hate to know what you’re thinking about when making love to your partner... “Geeeze, you know hunny, I bet Scott does this better than me, I wonder how Scott would make love properly?” 🤣
I soak mine in 3D Towel Klean then simply use my Worx Hydroshot to blast them clean using warm but fresh 3D Towel Kleen Water. Works perfectly and super fast. The pressure is only 320psi so it's fully safe on even foam pads. Then I give them one last rinse of pure water and spin them in the washer under a drain and rinse cycle.
I use this method with my pads and I feel it gets the majority of polish/wax/compound off my pads. I try getting as much water out by hand them spin them on my polisher to get more out. Not sure if that’s a good idea to spin them dry 🤷🏽♂️ but I do it. Seems to spin out a lot more water at the end
Scott I’m a new sub but been watching ur videos for a long time! Love ur videos, the black wheels on my truck hav clear coat on them and what’s ur opinion on bringing them bak to life? They hav swirl marks and scratches on them, I just dnt want to completely ruin them?
Scott. The videos from you are great; a little longwinded but great. One comment. When you're not actively rinsing the pad, turn off the water. Save the planet buddy.
Way more simple than I expected! Everyone wants to sell a product for this and for that and it gets costly. Simple and cost effective. Thanks Scott!
Scott that wasn’t boring. Very informative and way less complicated than other videos posted by companies trying to flog their wares. Great info for me as a beginner paint corrector. Thanks.
A guy giving advice, not trying to make money or credit by hustling product. Thank you!!
Man I really appreciate your videos. You have a very simple, realistic approach to work. It makes me feel like we're a team and your just being a great guy and helping me out! Thanks so much!!
Exactly how I wash my pads.
Then I spin them out on my polisher.
Sometimes I use a citrus degreaser to break down a really dirty pad.
Great video .

G8R 5OH that’s the way I do it
Soak the pads in the bucket as the ones you clean rinse into that bucket
This is by far the best way to clean pads. Not only doses it clean the pads thoroughly, it actually makes the bad a bit more flexible. I’ve washed my pads like this and gotten a ton of use out of one pad.

Wife loves to wash dishes in our new sink, I know where I'm bringing all the used pads next time Thanks scott!!
brilliant, after watching this video I tried it myself, and mate its the best way ever. I will never go back to my old method, cheers and a big thank you from the UK

Great info Scott! Tip I found, after you are done with the cleaning, switch to cold water to rinse the soap out of the pad faster. Cold water cuts soap quicker than hot.
That method works great, much easier inside the house than sitting out in heat on the driveway. Love your style Scott.
Thank you for explaining how to clean your buffing pad after using it know never been so detailed about it. Thanks
'I get this stuff from the dollar store for ....a dollar' - my fav quote of yours! Just teasing - thanks for all the helpful vids and keep it up!
😆
Yeah that definitely blew me away 🤯
Thank you for showing me and not trying to sell products. Respect ✊🏼

Cleaned my first pad and it worked great. Thank you!
I was just about to restock my pads since I ruined my old ones by sticking them in the washer on hot. Thanks Scott. Now I know how to wash them. You have the common sense that I lack.
Grabbed a Griot G9 last week as a newbie to polish I appreciate your insight.
I wasn't bored by your video! I was captivated! Great job! Thanks for sharing your talents!
A bit of unnecessary chit chat at the beginning but not boring.
Just finished polishing and waxing a customers vehicles was about to wash my pads and this popped up how funny. Pretty much how I did it besides the warm water! Thanks Scott!
Love your videos! You do a great job of explaining things and dumbing it down for the beginner keep up the good work.
Thanks Scott. Your pad cleaning tips work great for a rookie buffer like me. I appreciate the help
Ive been waiting for a video explaining the cleaning process... so your timing is perfect and you answered all my questions!
Thanks for confirming that I am doing the right thing! 😁 I'm using Dawn Platinum Erasing Dish Foam and 1 pump cleans 1 pad perfectly.
Styli F
Loving the Dawn foam soap, seems to last a lot longer than regular dish detergent.
Thank you I started to buy a pad wash and after watching your Video I prefer to wash the by hand and save me money.
Good video its the little details that go a long ways on protecting and maintaing your equipment
Not boring, Man.....I subscribe to the same K. I. S. S. thinking. Keeping it simple has almost always worked for me.....Thanks for the video
Thanks Scott for all of your informative video’s! I’m a professional detailer myself and you always impart knowledge! Thanks!🐟
@I_Said_ OU812 Thanks bud. Some washing machines have a 12 and 14 minute quick wash cycle so thats why I asked.
Maybe soak in warm soapy water then blot with a towel.
@@midnightmystery544 thanks
Videos are amazing Scott. Your knowledge is truly valuable. Cant wait to keep learning more and more .
Thank you for this video. I was wondering how I was going to wash my Meguiar's foam pads. With everything closed down right now I couldn't go to a laundromat to wash it. I just finished washing them with Ajax dish washing soap and it worked perfectly.
I always washed my pads like this for years but i use the dollar store stuff to make sure it rinse out completely
I soak pads in a bucket of water from the bottom of my hot water heater with a half bottle of palmolive.
Remove them when the water cools to 100deg, rinse and ring them out twice. Clean and still work like new, pads last forever.
I've used dawn and its fine, however use no where near as much haha. I agree 100% though the pad washers are nowhere near as thorough.
Thanks for this video! I just tried this and it worked great. Saves me money and time
Right on , I have been Diluting the Dawn in my Sink way down just so it will come off the Damn pots and pans maybe cut down your Dawn and see if that work Ill give old Palmolive a try
Absolutely not boring appreciate it keep up the great work
That’s what I do and that’s what I use Palmolive softens hands while you clean your polishing pads.
Just did this, worked perfect with my porter cable 6 inch pad, good info here.
Love your videos. It's important to protect the pads, thanks for the tips. I am now predicting a Nationwide shortage on Palmolive dish soap... Power of Scott recommendations! Lol.
Thank you so much for your invaluable information, highly appreciate it, keep it up the outstanding job, have a great day.
I use the same technique just with a pad cleaner . I only do one or two cars a weekend so it works in my world.
Life saver

except of course if shes doesnt do it right and she has to do it all over again.
Women aren’t made to serve you
Thanks scott i will change the way of cleaning my pads john from Australia
Great information from the pro i learned something free that is valuable for me thank you love this video's
Not boring - great helpful tip . Thanks
Great video, just started to learn to paint correct and I really didn't want to buy special cleaners and brushes that adds up over time!
Awesome tip better than buying pad cleaning solutions 👍
you are correct about the pad washers not fully cleaning the pads plus if you dont use onr its going to leave cleaner residue in there. I dont recommend dish washing liquid. it discolours and makes the pads feel rougher. citrus at 5-10% maximum strength is better.
Great idea to just have more pads and clean more frequent 👍 what brand of pads do you prefer ?
Thanks for the real world no bs cleaning method. Will be doing this for my pads.
Good demo and info 👍🏼 thank you from England 🏴
Thanks man, this helps so much. Washing the pads is one of my least favorite chores. This method makes it seem a bit more exciting :D
If that’s in anyway a bit exciting, you gotta add a little more spice to your life pal.
Alright I have drunk all the cool aid... washed my micro fibers in All and now I have a bottle of Palmolive his for my pads....you were absolutely correct on both !
This is what I do. Never made sense to me to drag something across it. But, I do use dawn , maybe I'll try palmolive next time.
How do you store your pads?
Funny thing, I’ve been doing it this way for a few years. Thought I was bein’ a noob.
I do the same thing too, but rinse it in Distill water at the end to remove some of the hard water.
I do the same thing but I rinse it with holy water. 😄😄
@@dicam492 yes, only if the paint is that bad.
The urine of virgins, when I can find them.
Palmolive softens your hands while you do the dishes. Madge--"You're soaking in it", ha!
HA H HA I THOUGHT OF THAT COMMERCIAL TOO,I remember it well.
Gees mate you must be as old as I am!
I remember that ad really well. You must be an Aussie....
Gen X !
Wow, dated yourself there!!!
Awesome video will be definitely doing this. I wonder will dawn work faster seeing how it's a grease cutting dish liquid....
I'm pleased to see I'm doing roughly the right thing already! I actually use a bit of APC is the only difference. It's a citrus one so smells nice ...
How many different ways did you come up with before settling on the "wash it under the faucet"method?
Thanks scott i still remenber your last video about cleaning them. Thanks a lot again for helping us
Very similar to the way I clean mine! Great video Scott!
2hrs later and $150 on the hot water bill, all the pads are clean.
i used my electric boil kettle to warm and used that water
I was thinking the same thing
yes, i think filling that sink up adding soap and a few pads at a time ..then rinsing would be great way... maybe do it in 3 stages... kinda like a washing machine would, but by hand would be less abusive on pads...
Right! Save some water for the fish!
GOOD ONE.............REAL GOOD ONE. BRILLIANT
Thank you for this.. I thought the same thing about the bucket especially for over 100$
Thanks Scott. I am new and was wondering how to wash them.
Great video Scott. Not boring at all. I now know to get that last bit of crud out of my pads. Just one question do you use the same method for microfibre pads?
TIA. Lloyd

I used Gain laundry soap accidentally on mine and they got very clean. Now that's all I use to rinse them in the sink.
BOOM! Thanks Scott, I'm new to this stuff and you set me straight with this great video. I did it and it works great. Thanks again.

What's a good beginner's pad? Trying to do a 2 step paint correction. Thank you! Big fan
Thank you! Useful & Informative.
Also... Nice counters/sink Scott.
I was washing my pads when this video magically appeared. I think RUclips is spying on!
Good info, you saved me unnecessarily spending money, thank you!!
Just use dawn soap outside with the hose to rinse when your done with the car. Dawn cleans it quicker than Palmolive and rinses out faster.

Yep, I clean my Shark vacuum foam filters the same way..
Kudos to you from Houston, Scott!
i clean mine with snow foam, then use the two bucket method, then wash in pure mountain water, then i get the dog to lick dry it
Thanks just purchased a buffer today and pad
Thank you Ray Romano. Quick question. If my mom lives across the street can she just clean them for me?
Scott. The videos from you are great; a little longwinded but great. One comment. When you're not actively rinsing the pad, turn off the water. Save the planet buddy.
"OHH that's getting a little hot" 🤣. Great vid thanks!
The pad washer is a great option for those who are in a bind and cannot switch pads every panel. I use it just for initial cleaning after correction
