Be Near Me by ABC is a perfect example of the great music we had in the 80's, there was so much new music being released so fast you could not keep up with it all at the record store but soon you would hear it on the radio. We were overwhelmed like a tidal wave. If you got to grow up in the 50's through the 90's with all the golden classic movies, music and concerts, YOU were blessed!

I have two brothers who are 6 and 9 years older than me and whatever they were into or did, I was right there for it. I'm grateful for their influence on me, otherwise I would've missed out on practically everything that was happening at the time. I miss the summers spent together at our family's cabin, Air Force squadron picnics, sitting in the living room with my brothers and watching music videos on MTV., my brothers reading their comic books to me and our younger sister, going trick or treating in Air Force Base housing, watching Star Trek the Next Generation on Saturday nights together. This takes me back to being a very young child, with out the stress and drama that being an adult can bring. It also rerminds me of my mother who passed two years ago. Sad and happy memories rolled into one song.
Man... I've been saying for many years now that Alive and Kicking is my favorite video from the 80s. But THIS one's near the top of my list too! Delightful to the max. Love how the director knew what details of each person to zoom in on and what angles to use to bring out the essence of it all. Memories of this make you tear up.
This song brings back so many great memories growing up as a teenager in the '80s hanging out at the arcade in the mall and the old teenage nightclub area code 313 in Waterford, Michigan always dreaming and wishing that girls would talk to me! ✨🤩👌🏾

Remembered watching this on MTV... When it was played regularly... When MTV was the pinnacle of music listening and viewing... Now, no more... Damn millennium media...
I remember it well, too! (I still have this song on 45 - vinyl.) For me, the 80's was the best era for music, hands down. And, I was a huge fan of MTV. I even had the pleasure of watching their very first video, "Video Killed The Radio Star” by The Buggles, when MTV first aired in 1981. (Man, I'm old!) MTV died in the late 90's when the execs figured people would rather watch the blathering idiots on "The Real World" versus actual music videos. It seems that music in general, including MTV, has gone down hill ever since. Hmmm, I wonder why MTV no longer plays videos, but yet still hosts the VMA's. That's a head scratcher! However, with the sickening, raunchy antics of Miley Cyrus (and her ilk), who would really want to watch the VMA's in the first place? Huh. I believe I've turned into my mother. I sure did sound like her just now. (Ok. Yes, I am officially old.)

I remember when my brother told me that there was a new station that played music videos all the time---didn't believe him until I watched it. This was when MTV first came on the air. Oh the memories. What happened????
I wish today's kids could experience the 80s like we did. So much fun fashion, so much great music. No social media! Yet we still found ways to connect over bands we liked!
This song should have been on the soundtrack with Molly Ringwold's " Pretty In Pink" Definitely would go with the movie with how it sounds and storyline. I miss the 80's
Wow. That's interesting -- I've thought the same thing for _years!_ This song seems a perfect fit for a typical 1980s teen-romance, John Hughes-type movie. Fascinating to see that I'm not the only person who feels that way!
I could see it on sixteen candles...maybe during the scene at the dance or the scene at the party at jakes house...something like that...but then again it would've fitted to the pretty in pink soundtrack...the song is a contender for both soundtracks..to the 80's 🍻

Looking back maybe. But actually there were many worries back then. Still a great decade for sure. Especially in mainstream music. There were more styles and diversity in the mainstream and more artistic expression that was popular. These days there still is, but just not in the mainstream.
Guess you didn't hear about AIDS or the Falklands war or the Iran-Contra affair or the Bhopal gas leak or the Challenger explosion or the Lockerbie bombing or the Tiananmen Square massacre or crack cocaine or....
This was absolutely my favorite MTV video back in the 1980s, indeed of the whole decade. Seriously, whenever it came on, I would rush to the TV screen and lie before it in a near trance as one would prostrate oneself before a favorite idol.
It's so funny cuz I couldn't stop watching MTV and I, for the life of me can't recall ever seeing this video, I know I had to have, I heard the song almost daily, I saw 'Shoot That Poison Arrow' and 'Look of Love' vids and loved'em - this song is awesome, and even though the video doesn't stick out in my mind, seeing it now goes right along with ABC's videos - awesome imagery

Loves this.Brings me back to the days of song n fashion and the flavor of the 80's. The New Romantics. Kajagoogoo. Duran Duran. Spandau Ballet....Culture Club .....Human League...miss this time greatly
Me too, as I was in HS during the mid-late 1980s. Even in the 90s I felt most anything was possible. Then the 2000s happened. And everything I knew & learned was immediately rendered obsolete. And everything I loved was destroyed.
I've been listening to this song since I was 5. It's probably by number one favorite ever! I love Martin's voice and Mark's keyboarding (they're both so good-looking too). But my number one favorite thing about this song is the way the sounds come together - the piano, bells, beat, lyrics....the effect is amazing and just puts me in a blissful mood.

I lost my mom almost 3 years ago. It still hurts. I don't think we ever get over missing them.
@@mchris8142 Lost my mom over 33 years ago ... I still miss her to this day. Some losses you never get over.
My fondest memories are shopping with my mom and listening to the radio on our drive there. So many great 80s songs. She’s gone as well.
the message is perfectly simple
the meaning is clear !!!!!!!!!
80s was great
well said indeed was aweome
eduardo leon .........all a dream...........
Very well said long live the 80s
Man... I've been saying for many years now that Alive and Kicking is my favorite video from the 80s. But THIS one's near the top of my list too! Delightful to the max. Love how the director knew what details of each person to zoom in on and what angles to use to bring out the essence of it all. Memories of this make you tear up.
the message is clear! yo moma
This song brings back so many great memories growing up as a teenager in the '80s hanging out at the arcade in the mall and the old teenage nightclub area code 313 in Waterford, Michigan always dreaming and wishing that girls would talk to me! ✨🤩👌🏾
I heard this song in the Applebee's bathroom and have loved it ever since
My son ( whom is 8) is singing this - now 2022….. Tooooo cute 😊
Love this tune from the 80's and who just doesn't love how cute Fiona Russell-Powell is.
Probably their best track, that bass drum foot pedal work is top stuff.
I feel my booty bouncing to it! 🤍🕊️🤍☀️🧿🤩
When Smoky Sings in 1987 to me is their all time #1!💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🍻🥃.But I love this one too, and the group still looking fantastic plus sounding great since the awesome & well missed 1980's.👍👍👏
THE 80’s......so full of energy fun and....
HOPE! Glad to lived in that decade would never change it for nothing else
(Man, I'm old!)
MTV died in the late 90's when the execs figured people would rather watch the blathering idiots on "The Real World" versus actual music videos.

Mostly Trash Vision !!!
I remember when my brother told me that there was a new station that played music videos all the time---didn't believe him until I watched it. This was when MTV first came on the air. Oh the memories. What happened????
Well we are in luck, MTV has now a classic channel and we can see all those videos again, check it on satellite tv.
This is one of those songs that if put on a commercial during the Superbowl, everyone would want to know who sings it, and it would go viral.
You're so right
It’s a very under rated song. I doubt many people have heard it. If they put it on a commercial, I’m sure a lot of people would love it.
I wish today's kids could experience the 80s like we did. So much fun fashion, so much great music. No social media! Yet we still found ways to connect over bands we liked!
Their #9 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 from late 1985

Nice Hope. Those where the days.....I try to keep them alive by these videos..
Hope Maria all my dreams came true...happens every time we fall in love again for those we dont have fear to givr all once more

i agree Hope Maria the whole thing was Genius from beginning to end AVE MARIA !
80' friends! Much love to all! This is my jam!
Awesome song, with beautiful lyrics. Miss the 80s. 😥❤ Martin's voice is too gorgeous.💙
1:40 Those piano phrases makes me feel the song : )
This song should have been on the soundtrack with Molly Ringwold's " Pretty In Pink" Definitely would go with the movie with how it sounds and storyline. I miss the 80's
The same here Chris!!
Wow. That's interesting -- I've thought the same thing for _years!_ This song seems a perfect fit for a typical 1980s teen-romance, John Hughes-type movie. Fascinating to see that I'm not the only person who feels that way!
Yes the song should be in pretty in pink and sixteen candles
I totally pictured that movie ending when I heard it
I could see it on sixteen candles...maybe during the scene at the dance or the scene at the party at jakes house...something like that...but then again it would've fitted to the pretty in pink soundtrack...the song is a contender for both soundtracks..to the 80's 🍻
80's & 90's Carefree... Not a worry in the world... 💯💯💖💖👏👏💃💃🕺🕺
Yess...I want to go back! Lol
Sure, in mainstream America.
But what about the overlooked, underclass, low-income communities?
Right On 👍 ! {} I to Loved those Decades my teen yr's, and just starting a family of my Owen ! But it wasn't all 🎉Carefree & Wonderful🎊 if you was like me and most of American's at this time 💸 paying for it was expensive, I had two lovely 💞 👨👩👧👦 💞children to pay 💸for and everything that goes along with that ~ 🚗 "🌲🏘 left me pretty worried 🙍🗯almost all the time
But got through it all ! yeah I'll never forget those decades how about you ha,ha!
No sexual content, wars, and drug related topics just pure music and pure talents😂
Oh C'mon! We did have hair battles. At least give us that. . .
Idk the blond chick in this has some legs!!😍😍😍
The lead singer?. . . . .🤔
Yeah no sexual- content......... *_Booooooring!_* lol J/K
@@ToyotaGuy1971 Well, soon enough went from this to 2 live Crew, so you know 🤷🏿♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏻♀️. . . . . .
One of the Best songs of the 80's Wonderful memories and seemed like a Decade when Almost anything was possible.
Indeed one of the '80s best...
Nothing has been quite the same since 1985.
AIDS, Cold war, crack, trickle down economics, Ronald Reagan (lol) .... anything was indeed possible
@@fadingworld5569 You can gloss over the truth with coke and When in Rome all you want but I prefer to see the whole picture, otherwise my knowledge about life would forever remain incomplete; including the negative, destructive, violent, painful etc
OriginalMACMAN EXACTLY !
1986, where were YOU?
I was listening to this song EVERY day inside of the Air Force dinning facility, at Norton AFB, CA.
How about you?
This type of music (80"s) gives me spiritual peice.
I would play the ABC tape in my walkman and go on my bike and ride as fast as I could all over town and into the country (no rail trails back then). Only great memories now.
Peace
I'm ready to go back in time after COVID19 when I hear songs like this
I miss the 80s...thank God for RUclips! Love this song❤😍
Me too Colleen. The melody is magical.
That piano is what makes this song stand out. Very nice “hook” 👍
Ahhh the 80’s. What a blast! ❤
2-21-21. This might be the 2,891st time to hear this FANTASTIC song!! It all began the fall of 1985!!!!
Another great band from my generation 😍
Brilliant song. Listening to it brings back fond memories of the mid 80’s. That was a great time to be alive.
Hi Hillary,hope you’re okay ?
Forgive them Hillary, for they know not what they do.
Yep, I hope you are okay and over the fact that you lost.
I love the keyboard of this song. 😊
Loves this.Brings me back to the days of song n fashion and the flavor of the 80's. The New Romantics. Kajagoogoo. Duran Duran. Spandau Ballet....Culture Club .....Human League...miss this time greatly
It wasn't all that great behind the scenes sometimes but happy you get so much pleasure from these memories.
So glad this was my music in High School, it still makes me believe anything is possible! I missed the 80's!!
I was 17 licing to this song riding my Suzuki motor cycle in Standish Michigan in 1987 good memories!
So it’s 1985 and I’m getting ready to attend my first college football game. I’m staring in the suite’s bathroom mirror and this tune is rocking. Great times, which fly.
How to be a millionaire is the best cd of 1985! Great group!
