@@TT-fq7pl Wrong. You’re just looking at from the point of view of a miserable leftist. If you were poor, you lived in a land of freedom and opportunity and could change your life. Liberty reigned, so creativity did, as well. The dismal world we live in now is thanks to decades of progressive (progressing us to hell) policies. You can’t rewrite history. We remember.
As children in the 1970s my siblings and I endured an abusive and hateful father that beat us and my mother. In 1982, when I was 15, my brother and I found our mother's body in a bathroom of our house; she'd overdosed on barbiturates, likely to escape him. Without her there to act as a buffer between us and him, we endured even worse. It was a very difficult couple of decades -- the 70s and 80s -- for us but my teens were made bearable by music from Simple Minds, The Psychedelic Furs, The Smiths and so on. It sounds cliché but it's true. It was an amazing, amazing time for music and talent and creativity. It holds as much meaning for me now as it did in 1984 when this song and many like it let me close my eyes and be somewhere else, somewhere safe if only for a few minutes. In fact, so strong is my adoration for this music that, oddly, part of me -- now 55 -- wants to go back to those times. Of course, I could do without that "other stuff" but I really miss the music that got me through it all the first time.
I also grew up in the 70's & 80's with 4 brothers and 2 sisters, parents divorced, 4 older siblings were old enough to be on their own and mother remarried. Myself, younger sister and brother, my mom and her abusive husband. He would start a fight with her, beat up on her until she would leave and he would then come into me and my brothers room and drag me out to the kitchen and mentally and physically beat me for hours on end, "it was brutal" usually till 3am, I was his scapegoat for all his problems he said. This went on for about 3 1/2" years, started at about 11 tears old. I was luckily brought to my father's and not long after my younger siblings. Something that always took me to another place was this music, I'm now 57 and I too want to go back, without the "other stuff" also. This music has a beautiful way to bring back the good memories that made childhood special even though we went through some rough times. I hope you you're doing better and keep these songs with you!!!
I can't stress it enough, 80s had the best music. The entertainment in general, but the music was so good, this is another one of those amazing songs. We used to dance, sing and have fun to it. So many incredible memories and makes me so nostalgic.
My theory is that 80s music is both sad and happy at the same time because it was made during the cold war. We learned how to have fun and rad dance parties with the spectre of a possible nuclear holocaust in the backs of our minds. I suppose that gives us something in common with the lost generation of WW1 and the generation that endured WW2.
I don't know what it is but I get teary eye whenever I hear this song. I guess it's just me thinking about me as a shy teenager longing for someone who would be the subject of my spaceage love song.
Or may was been followed the kepts praying that he or fall into a big a gigartan trouble that's why it was rhymed it that way.And telling guy that they' been watched and won't fade.
Adrian Kline, one day, YOU will be the old fart carrying on about how great it was when you were young. It might behoove you to listen to your parents' and grandparents' ramblings because I swear on the fact, that they will not be there to "bother" you with their "old stories" anymore. I felt the same way when I was young. I am so damned glad I asked them about their lives and listened to what they have to say. All that remains of their lives now, are grave markers and a plethora of memories.
Betsy Collins this is how the future generation will interact with kids today who will be our age by then: Millennial: Ahhh music is so much better in the 2010s! Future gen: uhhhh...what is music?
I think it was the rebound to all the Vietnam era music. I don't know, that's just my theory. They started experimenting with electronic music, too. It was glorious wasn't it? The 90s weren't too bad either, but the 80s were amazing.
Life is so different now. Sometimes I sit for hours watching 80's video and think of all the good memories and all the crazy things we did. there will never be another time like the 80's. It's lost but not forgotten.
My father’s favorite song, every morning, he would blast this song in our house. Sadly He pass away in 2020. Missing my father because of this song, Thank you for the memories father.
Holy crap! Why the hell can't they make music like this anymore? Now this is what I call music. The so called "artists" of today could learn thing or two from '80's musicians about how to write songs. Thank you for posting.
So true. Makes me feel kinda sad though. This is one of the songs me and my high school buddies used to play in our band, along with Boys Don't Cry, Fire In Cairo, With Or Without You, etc. However, our drummer has now passed on. Time flies by so fast.
A song of beauty, melancholy and perfection. The opening alone is a taste of heaven. There is an enormous amount of mixed feelings and emotions that soar through the body while listening to this song. It's a shame music like this doesn't exist anymore. Yes, everything has it's time and place... and I am happy to know I was there at that exact time and place when this came out. Still listening in 2024 as if it just came out yesterday
No one cares about your race...get that shit out of here. Anyone can enjoy music, get that notion you have to be a specific type of person out of here.
Just heard this coming back after seeing my sister in the hospital. She loved this group. I was the cool kid in school for knowing teen music before other kids did, because of her. She's now in palliative care. She had a stroke during brain surgery to remove a tumor. She's paralyzed on one side and blind in one eye. She has had one problem after another! I cried like a baby and looked like a fool when this came on the radio.
Reading this made me feels sad too. So sorry about your lovely sister. My heart felt prayers to her. Tell her I said she will never "Fade". Hugs and kisses
me and my wife just came home from a terrible day at both of our jobs and this comes on and I just looked over and her and sang this to her and just seeing her smile will always make me happy no matter how bad both of our days are
This is one of the best comments I have ever read. Connection and compassion between two human beings is so wonderful. Nice change from the usual option pieces on here.
I was a radio DJ at my college in the mid to late 80’s and discovered this group for the first time. I was the only DJ that played Top 40 music and this song actually charted so I learned about progressive rock or new wave and was mesmerized by this song for its haunting music and lyrics. Many good songs from this band but this song resonates the most. Sad song but hits the gut.
I thought the 80's would never end. Being young, the future ahead of you with no worries, good health and fun times. Now its all a memory too look back and wonder. I started the 80's being 18 yrs old and now in 18 yrs i will once again be in the 80's. that may not count but I was able to make it this far.
2021: This song had been stuck in my head for a year, I finally find out its title. This is one of the songs my father played when I was a young girl. I miss my dad so much.
I have filled my girls with 80s music. Cherish it. It's a treasure that we can freely give. It is a key to a time when we were young and free and had hope and the future lay brightly before us. It was truly our glory days and we want to share it with you so you NEVER forget us. Now you pass it on.
Someone broke the heart of this 24 year old singer, and we got this beautiful song. Thank you Mr. Butler. You've made many people think about how precious true love is.
You are always going to be young at heart and of mind, so please do not focus on the number of candles on your birthday cake. We are somewhat different from our parents' generation in mindset. I am of the class of 1989. However, I don't sunbathe and I take reasonably good care of myself, so I certainly do not look like a 45-year-old of my grandparent's or parent's generation. Do not ever close that door of feeling young and excited about this world in your heart and mind. It all boils down to what state of mind in which you live.
Such a haunting voice! I can never get tired of listening to this song. The 80's were the best years of my life. My best friend and I used to record ourselves trying to sing this song. He unfortunately ended his life a few years back. They played this song at his funeral and I stood over his casket and sang it to him. I still listen to our recordings quite often. See you on the other side my friend! R.I.P
We thought our 80s music was a bit silly compared to 70s and less optimistic and fun than 50s and 60s. Funny it’s now the nostalgic decade. Don’t worry, your kids will think your music is cool and vintage too someday

I am so greatful my dad kept 80s music alive in our household. It's 2015 and I listen to 80s music on the regular and every time I do I get such a rush. It sounds dumb but I feel like it takes me back even though I wasn't alive then (kinda silly huh). Such a great decade in music history just wish I would have been 17 then and not now. It must have been great.
+Maritza Barrios I keep it alive in my 3 girls and they LOVE it! All these bands are touring lately and my now 20+ girls go to their shows! :D I'm a proud mama!
+Maritza Barrios I was the same way when I was your age. I tell people what kind of music I like, and they say "What do you know about that kind of stuff? How old are you?" I tell them my age (31) and explain that my parents listened to some of it, and some of it I discovered on my own.
Did you know that there were people that were living during that time and heard none of it. Now that the internet is so accessible you can listen to this to your heart's content. There were some of us alive at the time that had shitty lives and others who had worse. However, the music is still there.
This song is one of the strongest reminders for knowing how much I love my wife . . . I took her to see the Furs a few years ago for her birthday (as she is an 80s music fanatic), and while watching and enjoying the show, she felt a little faint, so we walked into the lobby and sat down to rest for a bit. After a short while, we could hear the strains of this song - one of my all time favorites - echoing through the lobby . . . and while I initially felt like we were missing something special, I looked into her eyes while we were sitting and talking, and hearing this song from afar, and felt as much love as I ever have in my life. I will never forget that moment, and this song will always remind me of the greatest, deepest love that doesn't fade.
I can die tomorrow happy... knowing I lived through the 80s. Graduated in 88... da high school parties, da movies, da endless epic music from like 29 genres always playing on the radio... and no social media mucking up your time. Freedom!!!

I'm so sorry for the trauma you endured. I'm so glad you survived 😊
GOD BLESS YOU❤
I hope you and your siblings are well now.
best music review. sorry they were mean to you - they were mean to me too.
at least we had this
I can't stress it enough, 80s had the best music. The entertainment in general, but the music was so good, this is another one of those amazing songs. We used to dance, sing and have fun to it. So many incredible memories and makes me so nostalgic.
It was the amount of genres 👍🙏
Yes the 80's were an idealistic time. Everything seemed possible.
word up!....it was a magical time!
It was a decade of Renaissance,,,
exactly ✌
2023 I'm leaving this comment here so that after a week or a month or a year when someone likes it, I'll get reminded of this masterpiece🙋
Hey Sister, I feel you 3/25/24. I love the Psyc Furs, the soundtrack of my youth and yours, too.
PING! A great GenX campfire song too!
🙋🏼♀️
Reminded!!!
2024 is about to end and I'm still listening to high school masterpieces!
I'm now 57 and really miss our younger days. A truly incredible band.
They are still touring - I saw them in July. Ethereal ear candy....
Amen
I'm 58 and I know how you feel. Just remember "You never know what you had until it's gone forever."
I'm 58 years young, too. It's depressing to be living in these times. I wish I could go back.😞💔
Me too ...wish to return to those beloved days ..
This has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever.
+Halle Lee YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL TOO!
+Halle Lee , Truly. I never get tired of it

The 80's anthem to unrequited or lost loves. Still one of the best and most haunting ever.
The Decade of Soul Mates
Thank you saying what I have long felt about this song
WOW !!!! ...... amazing wasn't it.
I really love psychedelic Furs Music Group.
This song is a masterpiece, a GIFT!
It gives me the goosebumps!
Me too!
Me 3
So agree !
The melancholia this creates is HUGE.
I agree.
Somehow it just makes me so sad, melancholy is too mild a word.
Can't even describe it, but the feeling just washes over me again and again.
I know hunny!!
@@frankzambory8831 cannot stop it
My theory is that 80s music is both sad and happy at the same time because it was made during the cold war.
We learned how to have fun and rad dance parties with the spectre of a possible nuclear holocaust in the backs of our minds.
I suppose that gives us something in common with the lost generation of WW1 and the generation that endured WW2.
Very Huge
Just heard this song after decades and it just took me back in time instantly. How could I have forgotten such a piece of art ! Epic sing
Yep, just now had the same experience...like I was really there again.
Richard Butler has several great songs
Shame on you , never again
Entering 2024 with this song on my playlist 🎉❤
When the music was grand and the world a little simpler and kinder!
Adrian Kline Old farts always tell the same old story.
Your words made me tear up-they were so true.
YES!! Could not have said it better!! People actually had to make an effort to talk to each other or get asked out. Loved it
Betsy Collins this is how the future generation will interact with kids today who will be our age by then:
Millennial: Ahhh music is so much better in the 2010s!
Future gen: uhhhh...what is music?
Why is 80’s music so superior to all other decades?
The Best
superior to now especially
I think it was the rebound to all the Vietnam era music. I don't know, that's just my theory. They started experimenting with electronic music, too. It was glorious wasn't it? The 90s weren't too bad either, but the 80s were amazing.
Cause it simply can 🤷🏼😂
Not all.
This song simply crushes me it is so beautiful.
Martin Hyizna this song has no rythm
You're right... it doesn't have "rythm". It has rhythm.
salvatore DeAngelo You're deaf.
Yes, yes it does.
Agree. Haunting and beautiful.
it's already 2024 and I'm still living in 80's hits..

All the pain; all the suffering, it was worth it, just to hear great music like this....
Life is so different now. Sometimes I sit for hours watching 80's video and think of all the good memories and all the crazy things we did. there will never be another time like the 80's. It's lost but not forgotten.

The perfect all encompassing representation of the 80's in one song. ❤
Hello Cristela, good day to you and it is nice seeing you here.
My father’s favorite song, every morning, he would blast this song in our house. Sadly He pass away in 2020. Missing my father because of this song, Thank you for the memories father.
Share with your kids one day
Christ the music in the 80s really was the best ever....
Damn right!
You said it
Right before the assault of the internet age on humanity...🙃🙏😎
Yeah definitely. So many unique ideas and beautiful songs. Better than the majority of songs nowadays.
🖤
Holy crap! Why the hell can't they make music like this anymore? Now this is what I call music. The so called "artists" of today could learn thing or two from '80's musicians about how to write songs. Thank you for posting.
Doesn't it seem like almost all of the Artists in the 80s could write decent Songs?
80’s best music decade ever
Totally agree Steve. Steve 😁
I can almost imagine David Bowie singing this. A very soothing and heartwarming song. God I miss the 80's. How good were they!
I thought the exact same thing. He has a Bowie-like vibe.
This song always makes me think of the people who I will never see again.
You are soo correct. Please know that I get it
So true. Makes me feel kinda sad though. This is one of the songs me and my high school buddies used to play in our band, along with Boys Don't Cry, Fire In Cairo, With Or Without You, etc. However, our drummer has now passed on. Time flies by so fast.
Me too so. Many family and friends we will all be together ❤️✝️🙏 someday
Exactly. The ghost in them they don’t fade. ❤️ 🥲
👑 Me too, I'm sketching a portrait of Princess Diana while listening to this song on loop ...
she don't fade
A song of beauty, melancholy and perfection. The opening alone is a taste of heaven. There is an enormous amount of mixed feelings and emotions that soar through the body while listening to this song.
It's a shame music like this doesn't exist anymore. Yes, everything has it's time and place... and I am happy to know I was there at that exact time and place when this came out.
Still listening in 2024 as if it just came out yesterday
As a 12 year old Black kid in the projects of Camden N.J. I didn't know what kind of music this is but I LOVED it.

Trump's Bane I find your claim very difficult to believe and, in fact I don't believe you at all.

This song is a virtual time machine which take me back to my high school days in the 80's. I really love this song. ❤
One of the greatest songs of all time. Period. End of story. Love it. Thank you for creating this song. So beautiful.
As a 54 year old this was US! So many great bands from the late 70s thru 80s! New Wave, Post-Punk, Ska, Punk, College Rock, Indie, Alt.Rock!
I dedicate this lovely
song to my late

voice is truly unique.
It's a perfect tribute ❤

Sabra Zafarano. Keep the the faith. We`ll all see our departed loved one`s again!!!!
A lovely song will always be a good song
Just heard this coming back after seeing my sister in the hospital. She loved this group. I was the cool kid in school for knowing teen music before other kids did, because of her. She's now in palliative care. She had a stroke during brain surgery to remove a tumor. She's paralyzed on one side and blind in one eye. She has had one problem after another! I cried like a baby and looked like a fool when this came on the radio.
Stay strong. Life is not always fair.
Bless you...I cry everytime I hear this song.

Same! High school DJ - Winchester MA - what a blast #FCC-License
@@hilldoraMassachusetts? Nice! Are you still there? I live in Arizona now, but the first 27 years of my life were in Rhode Island.
Hi I recommend a song called 'Life Changes' By Robert Nix
I thought the 80's would never end. Being young, the future ahead of you with no worries, good health and fun times. Now its all a memory too look back and wonder. I started the 80's being 18 yrs old and now in 18 yrs i will once again be in the 80's. that may not count but I was able to make it this far.

It's great. Check out Robyn Hitchcock's version of this awesome song!

You could never be more right.. I'm so sorry about your Daddy. But this song is for you if it represents your memory. ❤️
Also baby.. He had great taste in music
Welcome little one we’ve be been here since the 80s

Someone broke the heart of this 24 year old singer, and we got this beautiful song. Thank you Mr. Butler. You've made many people think about how precious true love is.

Great song. 1984 when this came out I was sixteen. God I'm getting old.
Kr k im 16 now lmfao
Kr k I was 4 back then
turning 16 in 2 weeks and a day now! Great song my parents saw them in concert last month little jealous they didnt take me!
I was 30 when it came out. Loved em

A man in my shoes runs a light
And all the papers lied tonight
But falling over you
Is the news of the day
Angels fall like rain
And love, love, love, love is all of heaven away (Love, love, love)
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade
The ghost in you
She don't fade
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade (Don't fade)
A race is on I'm on your side
And hearing you my engines die
I'm in a mood for you
For running away
Stars come down in you
And love, love, love you can't give it away (love, love, love, love)
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade
The ghost in you
She don't fade
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade (in you)
Don't you go
It makes no sense
When all your talking supermen
Just take away the time
And get in the way
Ain't it just like rain
And love, love, love, love is only heaven away (love, love, love, love)
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade
The ghost in you
She don't fade
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade
The ghost in you
She don't fade
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade
The ghost in you
She don't fade
Inside you the time moves
And she don't fade

one of the best things about 50 years old,is the fact that i lived my teenage years in the 80's that is priceless and i am grateful !!!

Psychedelic Furs is a band that aged well. I saw them live 3 years ago. The air of sophistication was palpable.

Palpable? Indeed!
Timeless and brilliant song from an incredible era of music.
Beautiful song and 80s. I was born in 1980. Questa è vera musica.im italian
+Tara Marie so glad I never had kids

one of the greatest 80's music
This still sounds glorious. Such a great band.
Beautiful. Thx
