The rediscovered songs "include a "That's It Folks!" mix of "So Hip It Hurts" from Zillionaire. 80’s music were the most fun upbeat of any generation. Lyrics were mostly innocent, truly romantic and subtle. Not overtly as opposed to today’s music. Also had nothing to do with politics. Just pure fun music.
There was plenty of political music in the 80's, though, especially around the middle of the decade when everyone was doing fundraising concerts and so on.
U2, Bruce Springsteen, REM, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Midnight Oil... just a few 80s acts I can think of off the top of my head who had heaps of political songs, many of them hits.
Tonight I saw Smokey Robinson perform at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas. (5-22-22) I now understand what this song is all about. I’ve loved this song for some 40 years. They gotta top-up the pension too 😂
For me personally,
this is arguably the BEST cover song tribute to Smokey Robinson & the Miracles I have heard.
This song never goes out of style, even in Oct. 2020 the 80s were an awesome decade
In 2020-21 even more reason for fun 80s!!
This ABC song is still good today & when I first heard it on the radio then✌🏼📻
Yeah, they don't make them like this anymore.
Timeless Classic
It really doesn’t get any better than this .. released in 87 & still sounds amazing today ❤
Heard this in the radio in the late of night and I instantly loved it. Great song.
GREAT TRIBUTE TO AN AWESOME CROONER. I WISH ABC HAD STUCK AROUND A BIT LONGER. LOVE THEIR SONGS
I agree 😄
I love all their songs but this is my favourite
JAYROB BRUTUS They were supporting someone at the Milton Keynes Bowl some years back and I could hear it all standing in the back garden of someone's house nearby.
Ralph Jackson Martin Fry is still out there. In fact, In June 2014 it was revealed that a dozen early tapes were discovered of rare remixes and unheard songs from ABC's first three albums. These were returned to him and he was delighted, but so far, he isn't sure what he's gonna do with them. The rediscovered songs "include a "That's It Folks!" mix of "So Hip It Hurts" from Zillionaire. From Beauty Stab, reams of early studio takes have come to light including one song, "You And Me," that never made the final album. From the Lexicon of Love era, the group's own, pre-Trevor Horne demos of "All of My Heart" have come to light, along with a reel entitled "4 Ever 2 Gether - The Outtake, Starring Martin Fry as Ken Dodd.
FaytLinegod Interesting! Thx
ABC best song.. and even when its very difficult to determine one.... I think this one rules
LYRICS (YEAR 1987):
Ooh-ooh (Ooh ooh)
Debonair lullabies
In melodies revealed
In deep despair on lonely nights
He knows just how you feel
The slyest rhymes, the sharpest suits
In miracles made real
Like a bird in flight on a hot sweet night
You know you're right just to hold her tight
He soothes it right, makes it out of sight
And everything's good in the world tonight
When Smokey sings, I hear violins
When Smokey sings, I forget everything
As she's packing her things
As she's spreading her wings
The front door might slam
But the back door it rings
And Smokey sings, he sings
Elegance in eloquence
For sale or rent or hire
Should I say yes and match his best?
Then I would be a liar
Symphonies that soothe the rage
When lovers' hearts catch fire
Like a bird in flight on a hot sweet night
You know you're right just to hold her tight
He soothes it right, makes it out of sight
And everything's good in the world tonight
When Smokey sings, I hear violins
When Smokey sings, I forget everything yeah
As she's packing her things
As she's spreading her wings
Smashing the hell
With the heaven she brings
Then Smokey sings, he sings
Luther croons
Sly's the original originator
James screams (uh-uh)
Marvin was the only innovator
(Innovator)
But nothing can compare
Nothing can compare
When Smokey sings
(Sings)
When Smokey sings, I hear violins
When Smokey sings, I forget everything
As she's packing her things
(Ooh ooh)
As she's spreading her wings
(Ooh ooh)
She threw back the ring
(Ooh ooh)
When Smokey sings
Smokey sings
(Smokey sings)
Smokey sings
(Smokey sings)

September 2024 🎉
Love this tune and the vid...the aesthetic on the 2 back up singers/dancers with the headscarves, simply gorgeous.
A great arrangement, it captures the funk, but smooth, wonderful vocals, I still like this song very much.
This song and its singers are so stylish. Can ABC do anything wrong?!
@@ziweiyuan Yes thats true, but not a whole lot and very few. Most of the songs were just about fighting for freedom. NOTHING overtly political.
Okay, Mr. Cliche'.
U2, Bruce Springsteen, REM, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Midnight Oil... just a few 80s acts I can think of off the top of my head who had heaps of political songs, many of them hits.

Best music 80s
Tonight I saw Smokey Robinson perform at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas. (5-22-22) I now understand what this song is all about. I’ve loved this song for some 40 years. But only tonight do I understand it. His voice, even at 82 years of age, is pure magic. What a magnificent performer, song writer and singer. I finally understand why ABC wrote this song. Thank you, Reid.
