    Just to add to this a little, the Avata appears to be a little less stable in crosswinds than some of DJI's other offerings; I was flying full manual and had the drone flip itself. I believe this is due to the aerodynamics of the craft itself; the center of mass is well above the propellers rather than in line like many of DJI's offerings, so if the wind is right and you get the wrong angle it wants to end up on its back.

    I am not sure how the wind speed was actually measured, but sustained 50kph (30mph) is near gale force, it is quite apparent that the ocean surface in your shots are not exhibiting this speed, perhaps it was more like sustained 20kph to 30kph with forecast 50kph gust. There is no evidence of 50kph gust in your video. Please provide scientific data for your wind speed correlated flight video.

      From a speed standpoint, yes, but not from a control standpoint. In that scenario every wind gust you’d have to manually counterbalance all aspects (pitch/roll/yaw/throttle), which gets quite complex as the winds constantly shift and change intensity.

    • @SkeezyFPV
      @SkeezyFPV Год назад +1

      Think of it like driving fast and hitting black ice with your car. That’s the feeling I got when I had a yaw stall in high winds with my avata. I don’t consider it a design flaw though; it’s just the nature of the beast. It does become operator error once you know this and fly in sketchy wind/locations. I’ve found that rocky shorelines and low walls at high speed with a right to left perpendicular wind gust are what I have the biggest problem with. Headwinds and tailwinds are fine. It’s when the wind hits it like a frisbee from the side and you have some downward pitch going on combined with a clockwise yaw movement that I’ve had to punch out. If you are low on battery you can’t throttle out of the situation. Great video. I appreciate the content!

      @@Dcrainmaker Of course, one needs the requisite skills to fly in manual mode. Being able to pitch an roll more would increase control though. Trust me I fly in windy conditions a lot.

    This drone is a cinewhoop, They are notorious for flying poorly in high winds, The prop guards catch the wind. This drone should be flown indoors or below 25 feet 90% of the time, its designed specifically for that purpose. If you want a fast drone a 5 inch 4s like the nazgul5 or skyeliner will do. But you will have to fly in full manual mode without gps or auto level.

    All drones will fly with a tilt when flying with a side wind. If you are a camera/gps pilot you would be used to the gimbal keeping the horizon level. What you are experiencing is what traditional fpv pilots would see from a fixed camera.
    The other thing I would mention is that ducted quads, or prop gaurds really affect flight performance. Put this guy in a steep dive from up high to experience this. I'd expect all sorts of prop wash and a wobbly flight.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  Год назад

      Yup, I show how a 3 axis gimbal resolves the angle in other wind drone videos. And also show in this video how electronic stabilization (HorizonSteady) does effectively the same thing.
      As for steep dives, I haven’t seem that stability wise. Keep in mind there isn’t much of a ducted design here, but rather more prop guard. However, unlike most prop guards that also are a bit flimsy and thus contribute to unstable flight, these things are incredibly thick/strong (perhaps overly so, perhaps not), and have virtually no flex, and thus don’t seem to introduce wobble.

That can be done via the DJI Fly App, or, if it's not cooperating, you can use a computer with the DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drone Series). I'd actually step back though from the app. Disconnect the cable, and just do pairing straight between the controller and goggles, and then drone and goggles. I've found that specific step you're talking about in the app finicky. I don't know why it sometimes connects instantly for me, and other times it doesn't see avata and gets stuck at the same place as you. Technically the limitation here isn’t really an EU one, but rather that DJI selected not to put dual frequency in this, so normally on the Goggles V2, it’ll switch over to that. Yes, it’d still be shorter than FCC, but not meaningfully so for most pilots (since it’s be 6km instead of 2KM, and frankly this drone won’t likely flaw 6km and back without running out of juice). Sadly, Goggles 2 doesn’t have that dual channel capability.

      Forcing drones including the new Avata into FCC mode seems possible but that's either a thin gray area or completely illegal. I'd rather be fine if the drone would just refuse to fly further but still having a great signal instead of artificially reducing the signal.
