POLL! Answer HERE: Do I need to remove "Death" from the title or does it only bother a few of you? There was a lot of thought when I put that single word there. MY reply so far has been this... I get what ur saying, like not in the "traditional" sense of the term, as it relates to death metal anyway. I hoped it would slide since they do have some songs "about" Death, right? Besides, I used creative artistic license in the description that would be likely to attract a broader scope of potential viewers who may not be as savvy or discerning in their definitions of the many metal genres as you, and the bonus is the inherently obvious benefit of and unspoken tribute to the great band Death (RIP Chuck) for the clickbait aspect or search engine optimization algorithmic trickery I employed in choosing this one simple word. I watched this live... damn I'm old. It is really about the fans. These awards shows are just that....a show.
The only time I ever watched the vma's and I wasn't even watching it from the beginning I just happen to be channel surfing and boom. You can see it on all the pop, rap, hip hop, so on, faces the ones that, at the time, looked down at anything metal. Though they smiled you can still see the anti metal attitudes a lot of them had.
Awesome SilentZombie, I got a similar story channel surfing and found Hemlock 1999 on Vegas Cable access, also Buster Crack with 2 songs & an interview on the same episode!

I watched this live back in the day also, with the sole intent on watching Mudvayne.

I definitely like the remark that they were having a difficult time embracing the award while also holding to the philosophy that art is not a competition. A lot of artists have made similar comments about awards and such. However, they also are fun to watch, and artists should embrace when appreciation is given to them.
Thank you, yes this video is a good example of this. It's a complex inner struggle with many artists I'm sure, the one's who aren't so narcissistic that they didn't do it for fame or adoration but to make others think and then they accidentally go huge then have these expectations to continuous outperform themselves and others. Like Bob Dylan refusing to accept the Nobel Prize or give a speech but I think he did eventually accept it.
Fave part was the occasional shots of U2 looking fucked off

Touche'... I was torn personally. Raised on THRASH in jeans and tee shirts railing against glam hair and make-up. I saw the outfits here and with Slipknot and System of a Down as no different than Alice Cooper or Kiss from back in the day, like performance art shock rock, same as Madonna, Meatloaf or Ghost now. It's marketing that gain's attention and it did serve to bring their music, skill and message to the populace, bringing metal back to the forefront and inspiring many to be unique, pick up instruments and write I bet, so they're way awesome for me and get mad respect in the end.

Definitely uses death metal timbres when singing, easily capable of singing monotonous death metal genre music but overall mudvayne has more dynamics and Chad uses more vocal timbres. Experienced multi timbre singer giving his opinion to the superficial purists out there.

I love everything about their Self-Titled release. If Chad we're to tone down to all low growls on that LP the death metal elements of Mudvayne's music, especially on Mudvayne, would start to be iconicizing in the tech-death metal world.

Our own originals in high school (avail here) were definitely cheesier to even myself than what we were listening to or how I might have liked to sound. Writing great songs takes a process of discovery to develop the skill beyond the "cheese" stage I guess. PLus, even Eminem said he thought Slim Shady was the cheesiest shit ever but it goes platinum so we shouldn't judge our own art, just put it out there? /w\/w\
