23 ???? The trailer led me to believe that they had them all, or at least most of them. Although, I will never be mad at Tomodachi Collection being available on it. The fact that they acknowledge this game is great 👍
It’s an annoying but ingenious move on their part. By not including some of the most iconic OSTs (like SM64) they keep us wanting more. Similar to how a lot of streaming shows now release an episode at a time rather than the full set
There's really no sure fire way for them to keep their music off of RUclips though, and the app doesn't work on PC. They will do anything to avoid working with other companies or being even remotely reasonable even if it's beneficial for their consumers. This is about as useful as the actual Nintendo Online phone app. They should have just been reasonable like every other game company on earth and put it on regular streaming services. They are under the impression that they are the Disney of video games and can make people download a dedicated app for damn video game OSTs. Most people are not going to have a separate app dedicated to strictly to Nintendo music when they have RUclips music or Spotify. Their obnoxious greediness is going to start running people off.
Having 23 games on launch is insane. Like dude not a single 3ds, gameboy, Wii U, or smash game. Like that’s actually insane there’s only two fucking Zelda osts. I understand not having everything right away but the selection is beyond sad
I’d have more of a selection going into the music section of smash ultimate rather than the official Nintendo music app. And it’s not free, Nintendo of America truly does not give a shit
It just came out I think its a good base for an app, I don't think its disappointing unless they don't update it which is very unlikely. Using NSO to pay for it is something I actually really like, paying for music on it's own is something I don't see myself doing so having it be attached to something I already pay for is great. I'm looking forward to the Mario Galaxy 2 ost and the DKC osts I just hope Nintendo actually updates frequently.
I'm glad at least SOMEONE is not ok with this. Competing with other music apps is a big undertaking. Luckily, Nintendo is one of the few companies with the catalog and means to do so. While I would've been annoyed that I needed to switch apps just to listen to Nintendo music, how they executed this is much worse. The selection of songs is laughable compared to what they've built over the years. The apps foundation is set up, they have all the time and money, so porting most of their songs should be fast and easy. Also, if this is meant to be the only medium in which we can listen to Nintendo music (other than playing the respective games), WHY isn't there a Nintendo music webpage I can listen through. My desktop headphones are infinitely better than phones speakers or earbuds. If I want to listen to my very limited nintendo tunes while PC gaming, I would need to EMULATE the app. Yeah, I'll just use RUclips. They have all the offical songs AND remixes. Nintendo also is probably going to use this app to further excuse taking down videos of their copyrighted songs, rather than uploading their own on more convienent platforms. Seeing how underbaked this app is makes me more deppressed than the switch NES emulators on release.
Dude I don't understand how people are defending this. I didn't even consider that you can't even listen to it on your computer and I already didn't like the idea of having the Xenoblade soundtrack separate from my music on Spotify when going to the gym.
No most people just think that would be the logical conclusion instead of taking down all of the music off of RUclips. Nobody ever said Nintendo executives are logical human beings. They're only concerned about how much money they can stuff directly into their pockets while cost cutting as much as possible at the expense of the brainlet consumers like Nintendo fans that will eat this shit up while getting drip fed music at an abysmal pace for years to come.
It's pretty much just an excuse to remove music from RUclips and not put it on actual streaming services like everyone wanted. If Sega announced a Sega music app with dripfed soundtracks, they would be laughed out of the room.
Yeah, while you're waiting for them to add music that should already be included in their service, I'll be downloading mp3's from RUclips and listening to their music that way 💀
Yeah but you're forced to be a Switch Online member to listen to music tracks you should be able to have for free, they are trying to charge money for something that shouldn't be paid to begin with
@@mr.cringe61Imagine defending Nintendo trying to lock MUSIC behind a subscription because they were feeling like it one day, it's gross how more and more people are just accepting stuff like this and the Sonic IHOP collab like it's nothing, I will never be okay with them turning my passion into mindless cookie cutter slop where I give them money for no reason with nothing actually good anymore
The worst part is that even the games that are in there don't have all the soundtracks. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe doesn't have any battle course songs and Super Mario Galaxy doesn't have the star/fire/ice flower themes.
I hate to say this but i'm definitely going to stay with my 2000+ musics in my android folder that I gathered myself as the years went by, I like to pay albums when possible like the Yooka Laylee OSTs for example out of many I did pay their albums to own the files and didn't download from YT, but when there's no choice there's no choice and that's it.
I think you were right Nintendo is being too greedy on launching the Music app with only a bunch of songs. I mean they have got the biggest catalog of videogames music. I don't want they make same thing they did with NSO +, by adding slowly less games on each month. I was desperately hoping instead they will put all the whole music catalogue into the app. I mean they they even shutdown plenty of Fan-Nintendo music channels for this presumably. I want all the songs back and I would be very Happy! 😭
They're absolutely going to do that. They can use it to make every addition of a soundtrack into an announcement like it's a big deal. They added Banjo Tooie and nothing else recently and thought it was a big deal as an announcement when the N64 is missing so many first party games after all these years.
One thing I noticed is the audio quality. The Wii was only capable of outputting 32kHz audio. In the files for games, the audio quality was 44.1 kHz. Nintendo Music actually uses really good sound quality for the Wii Channel Music. I wonder if it uses the original samples? Also, the file type used for Wii Channels is different than a regular audio file. It uses MIDI and a Soundfonts to play audio. Those files are in a unique file type.

Honestly, Nintendo's biggest sin with this app was ignoring the people who have been loyal to it for decades but who didn't find a plausible reason to pay for the Switch's online service, and honestly, it's not worth paying for a subscription just to listen to music, but if in the future they take down the songs from RUclips that people posted or take down the songs from Spotify, this will certainly reinforce Nintendo's dubious and questionable ethics.
it’s nice that we’re getting an official way to enjoy nintendo music (with nso), but considering what nintendo can be like, i don’t trust them to not do shit like remove albums or have them available for a limited time.
Granted yes almost no one is buying Switch Online to listen to music, but Nintendo slowly added more games is like streaming services doing weekly release episodes so they can guarantee to charge their users
i really hope they don't follow the emulators' model of adding a few soundtracks every month, and some of the choices are baffling. either way, i still have snesmusic installed just use that too
Imho I think it's great, and I think these criticisms are incredibly nitpicky and petty. I'm the last guy to be like "well, they didn't have to give us anything and we should be grateful", because that's a dumb take whenever it's used; but Is not having the composer's name against these tracks a deal breaker? Were you legitimately under the impression they'd steam out of the gate with 1,000s of OSTs when they've literally never done anything like this before? Are you really complaining that this has been included for FREE with Switch online, the base teir of which being $20 per year as opposed to Spotify's $10 per month? Or would you prefer ads? Come on, dude. This is petty. My one criticism so far is that you can't cast the music to another device through the app which is a feature I hope they add, but beyond that it ticks all the boxes.
It's important to have these people's contributions to video games recognised. It's completely unfair that no composer here gets credited for games that they've composed for, especially considering the fact that the people who helped make video games had to fight tooth and nail just to get their names recognised at all in the early days. best example would be Yoko shimomura, who's work on street fighter 2 was hidden underneath a nickname, and in console releases had her work contributed to the people who just put them into the games. Just because it's music for video games doesn't mean they are any less deserving of credit and respect for the work they have done. The sooner that people stop acknowledging the things people have made for the gaming industry, the sooner their achievements are either forgotten or someone shady like Tommy Tallarico can take credit for it.
Nintendo's good o'l drip feed for engagement strategy. I know it's a tactic that a lot of companies and folks who make content use these days. Though, still, I don't know if it actually works in the case of Nintendo. Feel like they're very full of themselves. Doesn't help that it literally took them years before getting this off the ground despite them striking down a lot of unofficial uploads of their music. Doesn't help that things are incredibly underbaked like a lot of their lives services with no credit towards the artist and lossy playback of their small library. I'll stick to much better unofficial sources thanks.

I like the idea of it but they shouldn't have released it as is. There's not much on there right now. The Wii menu music and assorted channels are on there vs other extremely popular games. They at least promised more is coming which is good but they definitely could've waited until they had more on there at the very least.
They're trying to take all of their soundtracks off of RUclips so you're forced to use their specific service. Kind of similar to what Disney did when they started their own crappy streaming platform.
I get your criticism, but Nintendo has to literally convert every song from source files and do coverion to high quality files in a format that phones can use
This app is basically ‘Cool idea, horrendous execution’ incarnate, people have been asking for something like this for a while and to see it so slapped together is embarrassing I have no idea how they thought drip feeding music was a good idea, it’ll just make people go back to RUclips, especially considering the SHOCKINGLY small launch selection and lack of such heavy hitters, seriously how did they think launching the app with around 30 OSTs was good enough, it should be 10x that at the bare minimum, the selection really is bad in both quality and quantity, since there are quite a few obscure choices and is lacking so many iconic OSTs, no Mario 64, DKC2, Mario Galaxy 2 etc This shouldn’t even be a talking point since it’s such a no brainier to just put all their OSTs on the app to start with and add the OSTs of future games as they release, maybe a week or so after the game itself launches Along with that, requiring an NSO subscription is an unnecessary wall that’s gonna stop TONS of people from using the app since the service, despite being over 5 years old, is still lacking in meaningful benefits, and adding a music app with barely any music to the service is not exactly the kind of ‘meaningful benefit’ I’m referring to… The lack of credit towards the composers is apparently something a lot of Japanese companies do so I wasn’t really expecting this to be any different, it’s a massively missed opportunity to not have playlists based around composers though Even it’s neat quirks have a catch, not every song can be looped, only select songs can be, pretty sure Phendrana Drifts can’t be looped which is just insanity Overall, I think most people are in the same boat; when the trailer dropped it seemed like such a great idea, but once everyone got their hands on it they realised how bare bones and convoluted it is Disappointing; seems like everything related to NSO has some sort of Monkey’s Paw effect, they’ve butchered the distribution of both their historic game and now music libraries within the same generation, such a massive shame
If Sega did something like this, they would be laughed at immediately and it would go down in history as one of the most embarrassing moves they ever made. However, since it's Nintendo, you're going to have a ton of consumers trying to defend this as a smart decision when it's just an excuse to force you to buy Nintendo Online to listen to music that's been available for free on every platform for decades. I don't think anyone is considering that this service isn't even usable on your computer, meaning you would have to emulate the app on your PC to even use it there. This is also terrible for anyone who wants to listen to just one soundtrack or put it in their regular playlists. I always wanted Xenoblade music in my workout playlist and now Nintendo expects me to put a damn nintendo music app on my phone to listen to Mechanical Rhythm on repeat lmao. It's like they think our lives revolve around their products.
The streaming platform is cool, and there's a wide-open path ahead of us. There’s so much more to look forward to and get excited about. It's not that bad, stop complaining about everything.
Even if this app launched with nothing but the BOTW ost, it would still be an incredible value given that it’s free. Not to mention that, unlike RUclips, the platform most of us have used for Nintendo OSTs up until this point, the app has no ads and doesn’t have to be open in order to be used. It could be a lot better, but it’s already so much better than what we’ve been doing that I would happily pay extra for it.

What part of "music will be added over time" you don't get
Not everyone is a fan of drip feeds.
@@ScooterCat64 yea dumb little kids like you and the OP
The biggest problem is NO NSMB OST
So, no Bahs.
@@LG555Don't you mean no **bops**
But for real, I've always heard it as "BOP BOP"
@@LG555 exactly
It just came out I think its a good base for an app, I don't think its disappointing unless they don't update it which is very unlikely. Using NSO to pay for it is something I actually really like, paying for music on it's own is something I don't see myself doing so having it be attached to something I already pay for is great. I'm looking forward to the Mario Galaxy 2 ost and the DKC osts I just hope Nintendo actually updates frequently.
In my opinion I don’t think we should be whining because we’ve wanted a Nintendo Music app for so long
I'm glad at least SOMEONE is not ok with this.
Were you really under the delusion Nintendo would put their music on spotify ?
No most people just think that would be the logical conclusion instead of taking down all of the music off of RUclips. Nobody ever said Nintendo executives are logical human beings. They're only concerned about how much money they can stuff directly into their pockets while cost cutting as much as possible at the expense of the brainlet consumers like Nintendo fans that will eat this shit up while getting drip fed music at an abysmal pace for years to come.
It's a neat and harmless addition, but I do agree that it is lacking some things.🙂
It's pretty much just an excuse to remove music from RUclips and not put it on actual streaming services like everyone wanted. If Sega announced a Sega music app with dripfed soundtracks, they would be laughed out of the room.
Namely music
Yeah yeah, it’s bad, who cares.
We can finally listen to Nintendo Music officially now, and they’re adding more games eventually.
Yeah, while you're waiting for them to add music that should already be included in their service, I'll be downloading mp3's from RUclips and listening to their music that way 💀
@@nathaniel761isn’t it a part of switch online?
@@nathaniel761Sure, that’s an option but it’ll be in lower quality and you’ll not have the features from the app.
Let me say it this once, IT'S NOT AVAILABLE IN MY COUNTRY. I'm in Malaysia and I can't get it, including the Animal Crossing apart game.
Me who already built up and downloaded all my favorite songs for free on the internet:
The worst part is that even the games that are in there don't have all the soundtracks. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe doesn't have any battle course songs and Super Mario Galaxy doesn't have the star/fire/ice flower themes.
Those tracks are on the lists if you check “All tracks”
9 days later, no songs have been added yet.
I hate to say this but i'm definitely going to stay with my 2000+ musics in my android folder that I gathered myself as the years went by, I like to pay albums when possible like the Yooka Laylee OSTs for example out of many I did pay their albums to own the files and didn't download from YT, but when there's no choice there's no choice and that's it.
when i looked at it i went like WHERE WII SPORTS. i will be staying with youtube music for my video game music as i pay for youtube for some reason
They added Banjo Tooie and nothing else recently and thought it was a big deal as an announcement when the N64 is missing so many first party games after all these years.
when i discovered that you need a nintendo switch online substitution to use a FUCKING MUSIC APP
something changed in me for sure
Why didn’t nintendo make it so that there would be ads without switch online, and no ads with switch online
That fast 💨 😳
No Mariokart Wii ost, not my thing.
Im here just to see people CRYING on the comments.
The app just crashes when I open it 💀
There’s no chirpy chips , wet floor sashimori or off the hook LIKE WHY FREAKING FORGET OFF THE HOOK IF THEY HAVE THE SQUID SISTERS AND DEEP CUT HOW IS THAT FAIRR
This video is kinda misleading. Makes it sound like the app is bad, lacking features, or in an unfinished state. The app is ok, its just the selection could have been bigger.
Having only 23 games is insane
Not a single smash bros, no Wii U games, no 3ds games, no gameboy games, they only have 8 switch games like 😭. It’s inexcusable how bad the selection is
@@nightfox2333 Who said otherwise? I'm just saying the app itself is not bad as the video points several times. In fact, selection count is the only thing that's wrong with it (and it could be fixed in some time, we don't know).
@@jnrosenb oh sorry mb, it’s just like idk the selection kinda makes the app inexcusable for me like having less than 1000 songs is insane. And as a soundtrack lover it’s just upsetting
Stop defending this ‘all that’s wrong with it is the music selection’
That’s literally the apps’ only use and it’s embarrassingly limited, it’s a music streaming app with barely any music
2:29 I actually agree with that, literally says no info of the song
We're getting brothership before dream team music on this app
They said that they will release other music
Also by definition the app is not free. If you have to pay a subscription fee to access it then it is not free :P
Uploading music really isn't that difficult.
@@Soapie_Walten It's still far cheaper than Spotify, though.
And has no ads right out of the gate.
Spotify sucks.
@@Soapie_Walten Y'all are literally bitching just to be bitchy at this point.
The fact it doesn’t even have NSMBUD or super Mario party at launch…
You should've complained that some of the osts were incomplete.
Which ones?
Oh yeah the file select music is missing from the Mario Galaxy playlists (and much more)
@@Dilmi.AOUKLI Splatoon 3 is Missing the content update music, Pikmin is missing the Olimar side campaign music, Breath of the wild is Missing the inside the divine beast music, and so much more.
@Dilmi.AOUKLI nvm, Olimar's shipwreck tale is in the app, but it's separated from the rest of the Pikmin 4 playlist for some reason.
It'll get better, Nintendo is slow with things obviously but they'll improve it over time! The selection is really cool so far and it'll get better over time. Metroid Prime and MK8 Deluxe alone make it worth it for me lol
Wrong.
We got Dr Mario
So who needs the Mario 64 Ost
Nintendo what were you thinking
And I get to listen to the Wii start up legally
Which is 3 seconds long!
I like the idea of it but they shouldn't have released it as is. There's not much on there right now. The Wii menu music and assorted channels are on there vs other extremely popular games. They at least promised more is coming which is good but they definitely could've waited until they had more on there at the very least.
Just use RUclips Music, simple
They're trying to take all of their soundtracks off of RUclips so you're forced to use their specific service. Kind of similar to what Disney did when they started their own crappy streaming platform.
Its the fact that I can't listen to the three houses ost that gets me mad
Woah Nintendo make a music app.
Beta phase I have faith
I get your criticism, but Nintendo has to literally convert every song from source files and do coverion to high quality files in a format that phones can use
This app is basically ‘Cool idea, horrendous execution’ incarnate, people have been asking for something like this for a while and to see it so slapped together is embarrassing
I have no idea how they thought drip feeding music was a good idea, it’ll just make people go back to RUclips, especially considering the SHOCKINGLY small launch selection and lack of such heavy hitters, seriously how did they think launching the app with around 30 OSTs was good enough, it should be 10x that at the bare minimum, the selection really is bad in both quality and quantity, since there are quite a few obscure choices and is lacking so many iconic OSTs, no Mario 64, DKC2, Mario Galaxy 2 etc
This shouldn’t even be a talking point since it’s such a no brainier to just put all their OSTs on the app to start with and add the OSTs of future games as they release, maybe a week or so after the game itself launches
Along with that, requiring an NSO subscription is an unnecessary wall that’s gonna stop TONS of people from using the app since the service, despite being over 5 years old, is still lacking in meaningful benefits, and adding a music app with barely any music to the service is not exactly the kind of ‘meaningful benefit’ I’m referring to…
The lack of credit towards the composers is apparently something a lot of Japanese companies do so I wasn’t really expecting this to be any different, it’s a massively missed opportunity to not have playlists based around composers though
Even it’s neat quirks have a catch, not every song can be looped, only select songs can be, pretty sure Phendrana Drifts can’t be looped which is just insanity
Overall, I think most people are in the same boat; when the trailer dropped it seemed like such a great idea, but once everyone got their hands on it they realised how bare bones and convoluted it is
Disappointing; seems like everything related to NSO has some sort of Monkey’s Paw effect, they’ve butchered the distribution of both their historic game and now music libraries within the same generation, such a massive shame

You want a music app THAT YOU have to pay a subscription already just so you can listen to it? Bruh💀

So I fail to see the point of your argument here.
Idk, it’s a start, better than the alternative
We got Nintendo Spotify before Switch 2
