I never consciously turn off any of my Fire TV devices (sticks or TV), except for the old Lite stick which is powered from that TV's USB port, so when the TV is off the stick is off. However I always turn off my laptop at night ... that really is an energy saver. (I also have my laptop configured so that a shutdown also does a proper restart when booting up ... THAT is where the advice about not shutting down your PC comes from, as a normal shutdown doesn't release resources to put the PC in a proper state on reboot)

I just unplug my TV which turns off the firestick. Had no issues whatsoever doing that and my FS is 3+ years old.
Yes there is no issue as such, point being going into sleep mode doesn't do much
Hello Doc Squiffy, I turn off power to my fire sticks when not in use. One stick has smart plug, the other one, I just unplug the usb from plug. I use launcher manager and when I forget to disconnect power, amazon would disable my launcher mangaer, Then I have to re-install the app. I have followed TDUK's instructions to fix this, but I still out of habit dsable the power. This also allows the fire stick to cool off from running all day.
I do not have option for deep sleep, nor a cookie option either. I am in Florida. Take care, John

My fire stick is set to open a cable tv app upon startup. If I leave the cable tv app on when it goes to sleep will it wake up and automatically play the app or do I have to select it from the menu and start the app
Most people turn there electrical goods off when not in use as to avoid fires NOT save electricity
I put mine in sleep mode now. I was using a stick that was 3 years old and it started over heating. I got a 4K max about 4 months ago. After a week or so it started lagging. I started putting it in sleep mode and it seems like I still have to unplug it and let it sit for a while and then plug it back in and it works fine... for a few days, then do it all over again. I don't have any "bad" apps on it, don't really know why I can't shake this problem. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the video Doc
Hi Doc, got a 4k max in summer house, biggest pile of junk ever. In my main room I have the flat square box launch in 2015 /16. All my apps are saved on 128 GB SD card. You guys had a problem with downloader, mine never moved. Is it out with the old, and get the new. Or stick with the old ???
I'm fully up to date on my firstick 4kmax gen2 and I don't have deep sleep. My gen2 doesn't have deep sleep mode either. I'm in Washington state so I'm wondering if anyone else in the states has it
Have 3 firesticks and one fire TV. Deep sleep not on any of them. Bummer!!

So you have an Omni fire TV television now this is just a suggestion since I'm new to the television I would love to see you do a video on the Omni fire TV television on how to fix it to where you can side load apps and how to add external storage to the television I know you mainly do the fire sticks but I would love to see you do a video on the television Version because those are actually hard to find on RUclips and it would actually be a big help to me because your videos are very informative I hope you will take my request under consideration thanks Doc@@DocSquiffy

I used to put my Firestick 4k Max into Deep Sleep mode, but then my Alexa device wouldn't turn my TV on by voice. Now I just tell Alexa to turn my TV off. When I tell Alexa (on my Echo Show 5) to turn TV on my TV powers up and goes straight to my Firestick input and my Firestick turns on. Very convenient.
Even when your TV is off, FireStick is still running. There's a sensor embedded in the firestick that automatically turns the firestick off after 20 minutes. Here is why you should unplug your firestick from power source after each use: This sensor built into the firestick burns itself out, this as short as 6 Months to 12 Months. When this happends the firestick will heat up, and will lose it's quality in terms of performance, and the lifespan of the firestick is greatly reduced. This is just my observation on the topic, I still have my first generation firestick running like new, and my newer firesticks also runs like new. Not trying to convince people to do this, just like I said, my own observation.

wear and tear to bootup or power down, lol, what BS, it's not like it has a hard drive in it. Mine likes to lock itself up, from time to time, which requires a power down to reset it, a royal pain.
Yes, that is the time to power off. Point being from this going into sleep mode isn't the option.

I have a firestick 4k, but I just brought googletv 4k for my other tvs. I find the gtv cast feature and main menu superior to old firestick display, including how it sideloads your youtube subs in home display, and a much better layout overall. I do miss the "skip ad" voice control but, as my home automation is all run by alexa. But its not a deal breaker.

I disagree, just like I disagreed with your do not clear cache video. It is wise to turn it off, loads of reasons, number 1 if you believe all the nonsense about hacking and malware, you will be immune. Number 2... It's getting late, time for my bed 😂
p.s. I will explain re cache remark, if you watch a live stream for example, the video player or app is likely to have a huge cache, if you are not likely to use that app for quite some time (maybe a porn app) then it makes sense to clear the cache 😮
