      1. It’s not 2 hours, it’s 27 minutes. Hyperbole doesn’t help you when you’re complaining.
      2. Watch it on double speed. 13 minutes is worth it if it saves you over €1,000.
      3. Use the time you save to reconsider where you place hot drinks in proximity to your expensive tech in future.
      4. Eat some humble pie, rather than whingeing at someone offering free advice for a range of circumstances.

Thanks for this, accidently dropped the milk pourer into my coffee at a coffee shop and it splashed my macbook, over some of the keys and the right speaker, most went on the table. It didn't turn off so I wiped it immediately and turned it off. Unfortunately, it kept turning back on (it's always done that), changed the setting and powered down. I had to take it home so it was in my bag, got to wait another 24 hrs. Hopefully, all is good.

quick summary for people who just spilled water.
    MOVE QUICKLY and calmly
    1. Unplug everything
    2. wipe away all visible water quickly
    3. turn it off ASAP
    4. Lie the laptop down keyboard facing down. Upside down L formation, not a tent. On a table or edge with the keyboard down and the screen hanging.
    5. leave it there for a day, maybe two and Keep the laptop off the whole time
    6. after a day or two, go to someone ask them to open it up and check if there’s anything damaged

I have a question. I spilt water on the keyboard, and then after a bit of panic I turned it off and then put it in the tent position for a few hours, then I came across this video and then I tried to move it, and the laptop turned on just from the little movement. I turned it off and then tried to put it in the position you said and obviously because the keys are pressed it fucking turns on again. Idk if it I’m not turning the laptop off properly, because I held down the fingerprint on/off button until it turned off (it is a MacBook air M1 chip). This is how I saw everyone else turn it off through the other videos. So my question is how do you expect me to put it in that position in a situation where the laptop has not died completely? Please if anything I’m somehow not shutting the laptop off properly, but then tell me how to. I am just very annoyed that after watching this video and trying whatever to put it in a different position I may have fucked up my laptop even more because I ran electricity through multiple times. I would appreciate a fast response. Thanks.

    Hi Hamad!
I have a special case for you.
Could you share your expertise with me? Don't want to dump my years old, most reliable Macbook.
    MacBook Pro Retina 13" A1502 from 2013 I guess.
I spilled water over it about 6 month ago. It still worked for a couple of days without any problems. I only had to plug in an external keyboard as the original one was dead as a result of the water. All well, I roughly did the steps you recommend. I carefully removed the water with a towel and afterwards with a vacuum cleaner (not sure if the vacuum was a good idea, what would you say?). Towel. Upside down overnight. It still worked.
    The Problem:
There was a moment, when the battery went empty. And the "ON-Button" of the external keyboard (win) does not trigger the MacBook to start. So it did not start it since then. Now, as I have time, I want to repair it. Which means I want to change the keyboard.
Do you think, changing only the keyboard will fix the problem?
Or do you think, it could has worked back then, but now after this long time the water has destroyed other components?
I would be exited to get an answer from you.
    regards from Bavaria

    • @HamadBenaicha
      @HamadBenaicha  11 месяцев назад

Hello, the A1502 are probably the most reliable MacBooks, an easy you can tell if it's only the keyboard is remove the back cover, unplug the battery, unplug the keyboard and plug it to power and if it's only the keyboard the MacBook will turn on automatically by itself, if it does, it's a good news and just replace the keyboard and you should be good to go. A few years ago, I spilled a some black coffee, a quarter cup at most I think, on my late 2105 MacBook Pro keyboard. I did some correct things like turning it off and towel drying what was on the surface. Unfortunately, I think I did a few wrong things also, like shaking it, not putting it upside down right away, and using a fan to try to dry it faster. I didn't use the laptop for a couple of days and tried to let it dry on it's own with the help of the fan. After that, everything seemed to be working okay as far as I could tell, but about 2-3 years later, three of my keyboard keys quit working, the U, I and O keys More recently, my H and N keys also failed. Wondering if liquid damage can cause problems like this to occur years later or if this is an unrelated problem? Thank you so much for making this video though, and If I ever spill anything on my laptop again, I'm now armed with the knowledge of what exactly to do and not do.

Hello Luther, based on my years of experience and all the MacBooks that I have fixed, sometimes the corrosion took 6 months or more to damage chips or the wires underneath the keyboard, your keyboard will need to be replaced, there is no other way around if when you press a key and it does not register.

Hi Hamad, thanks so much for this. I experienced the unfortunate thing a few hours ago when I was on the train and had my full water bottle spilled over my bag. I immediately took out my MacBook Pro (in fully shut down condition) while still on the train, and had the lid opened as I wanted to urgently dry it as much as possible only with my tshirt. As soon as I opened the lid, it got automatically turned on though I know I should avoid it but it just happened.
    -
As soon as I reached the next station, I immediately approached a toilet to find a hand dryer (it wasn’t the hot air one, but more like cool blower) to dry it. I started to realize that my MacBook wasnt turned on anymore and I spontaneously tried to press the power button to ensure if this was fully affected, and nothing happened. It’s fully not working as I pressed the power button.
    -
As soon as I got home, I put it in the tent position as I read most of other articles/videos suggested for around 30 mins, then I switched to upside down position as you suggested after I found your video just now, and will try to keep it for the next 2-3 days, I put it in front of a fan and under an AC.
    -
Do you think I’ve done the right thing as it happened? This is my corp laptop and I’m so sad cause I wouldn’t get a MacBook anymore as a replacement if this is fully damaged. Your feedback is appreciated, thanks so much Hamad!

Considering the cost of Macs they should be spilled resistant. But most of laptops have holes for cooling and they're not unrepairable garbage like MacBooks, so they have additional holes between keyboard and frame, between top and bottom cover and between other components. However there is drainage holes under keyboard on some laptops as I know.

I spilled water on mine, its been drying for around 30 hours now I checked the MacBook and everything works but the keyboard backlit is dimmer, I also ran a diagnostic and it says everything is fine, what do you think the chances of it surviving are?
UPDATE: If anyone wanted an update. My Macbook is doing fine after 6 months.

it depends on the model of the MacBook and where you spilled the water. Did you removed the back cover and unplugged the battery and see if there is any water inside?

@@HamadBenaicha Its the MacBook air from 2020, I didn't have the proper screws to get the back cover off but I let it dry until today, and the water spilled near the trackpad and spacebar area, everything works but still the backlit is dimmer
