@ Oh dude. Can you imagine the collaborations? Would the boys from the Dead have become such good friends with the boys from Phish if Jerry had lived even ten more years? That’s only 2005, which is crazy. I think they would have been friendly for sure. This also makes me wonder how Phish’s music would have evolved if not for that massive influx in the fall of 95.

Phil's favorite album was WorkingMan's Dead. He liked it because of content and production. He drank at Nave's Saloon in Fairfax California. He drank Scotch and drove a Lotus. He owned a Porsche. He didn't take it personally that I didn't like the Grateful Dead. He could actually stand outside of it and appreciate somebody else's opinion. God speed.

Absolutely loved these conversations about the music. What they were doing with odd time signatures. Going from 7s to 10s to 1 all in one jam. That was the essence of the Grateful Dead. Phil was a genius so well studied in Classical music. Before he met Garcia he was writing orchestral music by ear. He had perfect pitch. He was writing parts for every instrument. Right up till the end his playing was so solid never missing a note and holding perfect tempo and groove. He really was the modern day Bach who played bass. His bass playing was a concert by itself. Thank you Phil for everything you gave to us. It's our turn to continue the journey. "Such a long time to be gone, and a short time to be there."

Phil pioneered innovative live sound acoustics for bass guitar like no one before him. I remember being at shows in The Phil Zone on the floor in the 80's & 90's, where some of his notes and broadcast frequencies seemed to flitter around at the boundary between audible and inaudible perception. Sounds dancing in and out between hearing a note and just feeling vibration in the body. Phil and his live sound engineers and technicians created a custom sound system to expand and control this magical threshold between hearing and feeling sound. Phil's mastery of the 6 string bass gave him a large pallet of notes to work with in this unique live sound experience. The only way to fully and truly experience Phil Lesh's musical genius was in a large venue live concert setting. Recent tours of Dead and Company, however wonderful and truly enjoyable, lacked Phil's utterly unique and intrinsic presence in The Grateful Dead soundscape. Thank you Phil "for a real good time"! ☮️✌️

A peak musical experience for me was The Grateful Dead and Phil Lesh's bass solo on "Eyes Of The World" Rochester 1977. During the solo I was nervously looking at the ceiling because it seemed the subsonic frequencies would bring the roof down. You can hear my voice on various recordings of that show, requesting "Jack Straw" and yelling "Yeah!" during Phil's solo. Also, during Phil's solo someone used my shoulder to steady an 8mm movie camera to capture Phil's brilliance, so that might be out there. I highly recommend listening to this show with a great sound system or exceptional headphones to pick up the low frequency of Phil. Phil was my musical hero.😢
