Cant wait to make the Oblivion bloom EVEN MORE powerful with this.
Sadly I don't believe Oblivion uses a fixed rendering pipeline.
@@abbiedoobie How does one determine if a game is running a fixed rendering pipeline? It seems as though its use of shaders is a dead giveaway that it isn't, but surely Portal runs shaders, no?
I'd kill for some info on what games would be compatible with this.
@@abbiedoobie Of course it does.
@@toojb9294 It has nothing to do with shaders. It has to do with the steps in the rendering process being fixed or programmable. They didn't introduce the ability for programmable pipelines until Direct X 10, and even then, you could still do a DX10 game with a fixed function pipeline.
@@abbiedoobie Oblivion is a DX9 game. It uses fixed rendering pipeline.
Same applies to the other 2 games using the same engine with Oblivion and DX9, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.
They literally took the "RTX ON" meme and made it real
Nah, I think Nvidia first used it and then memes started
@@danko5866 what he means is the memes with a rusty Lada turning into a shiny new Ferrari with RTX ON
@Vito Rao I don't know about very quickly, but certainly faster than it would take without this
@Vito Rao damn nvidia made something so good it has people with 0 modding experience believe they can pull something off lmao
Yeah because Nvidia made it 🤓
Fallout New Vegas with this will be game changing
Now nobody will be able to deny it as the greatest game of all time! It. shall. reign!

Genuinely one of the most impressive tech demos I've seen in years. It's like magic.
Exactly, what I thought 😮 „AI“ is the modern substitute for „magic“, isn’t it?
so much potential
It's not really magic. It is just, essentially replacing assets and parameters with higher quality versions. What is really good, seems to be at least, is the tooling to do it.
Technically, what would be magic is if they created an AI that would upscale an entire game without having to do anything. E.g., a simple screen capture remapper where the original game was still intact. well, what would be magic is if you could take an old 1970's space invaders and turn it into a full 3D game by just running some AI on it.
There are no words to describe how big this is. Ray traced remaster of NFS Underground 2? Now someone will make it for sure.
How about Batman Arkham Asylum, or City? 🤯🤯🤯🤯
NFS Underground 2 oh my... that would be beautiful!
You need Acess to all original files that are not locked by developers in a way - why do you think Moders without Modding Tools from companys theself have a hard time moding anything besides few basic textures sometimes.
Files are enrcipted and locked so you can not reverse enginine the games.
@@artursobkow2680 RTX Remix is ripping files straight from the render runtime, this should work for most games using dx8/9
well nfs carbon will see the light to rtx finally as many people wanted it to
"Morrowind RTX is a technical showcase and is not currently under active development."
WHY ARE WE NOT FUNDING THIS!?
You are, paying 1k+ dollar in usa and 20k+ reais in brazil per graphic board :D
Nfs underground 2, nfs carbon, sega gt... Mal posso esperar
Because the whole point is they want people to just do it themselves
this is a modding tool, modders have to modify the game themselves.
Honestly, I think people have not realized the power of this tool. We can have a catalog of 10.000 to 100.000 games that can be remade in the graphics departament without too much effort. This is leagues ahead of ray tracing shaders in emulators. With this we not only get physically based materials on older games, we also get ray tracing, upscaled textures, global illumination, shadows, depth of field, the whole package. This will transform the gaming industry. And I'm more excited to when we'll have an open source version of this built by the community. Gaming looks promising in the years to come.
But it only works on Dx8 and Dx9 games. Not older or newer versions of directx.
@@Helld00d thanks. Hope they make it compatible with OpenGL as well
@@Helld00d I am sure Nvidia will update it to work it with DX10 and 11 too.
This _kind_ of technology could change the way we look at Remakes overnight, even game development as a whole if it were open to all DirectX versions and made compatible with all types of hardware, but it's still pretty amazing, even as an Nvidia exclusive feature for the time being. Hopefully essentially the same tech can be made open source.
I wonder would it work on gmod? Also if it does? What sort of mods would we see in future
Finally will see Need for speed most wanted [2005] with actual real raytracing
exactly my thought! that and nfsu2/1
oh yeahh

I talked to Todd Howard and he said he will start work on Skyrim RTX right way.
@@yaosio Press X to doubt :p
I wish.
@@yaosio This could be a great excuse for them to just release 8 more versions of Skyrim instead of ES6.
@@yaosio probably won't happen since I think this only works for dx9 and dx8 titles , while skyrim SE uses dx11
I will definitely be using this tool to mod DX8 and DX9 games. This is too good! Took a break from content creation since 2015 to start a family. This is very motivating!
woah i remember you! far off enb right? wow i loved your mods hope to see you come back
That is no excuse! Get back to the mods, your family will run fine without you.

This is probably the biggest announcement in GTC that was overlooked. It’s crazy to imagine how many games will be able to utilize RTX and DLSS 3.0 with this!!
This is absolutely mind blowing. I'm now biding my time until the morrowind mod community comes out with a mod pack and this for the ultimate experience.
I know right! I'm honestly so tempted to learn the tool myself! My top picks for this are Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim Legendary Edition which was luckily still created with DirectX 9!
Check out 'Skywind', it's a modding project that's remaking the entirety of Morrowind in modern engines, with voice acting, revamped level design, while keeping all the original features like spell-crafting. Still in development but it's coming along well!
This is absolutely genius. Thank you all so much for maming something so cool!
This will be remembered as one of the best day in gaming history
This is the smartest tool that could possibly created. Instead of waiting whole life for remakes of our favourite games we can do it ourselves, cant wait to test, hopefully its easy to use ;)
Nvidia: We can made remaster of games in 5 minutes with amazing quality by using old assets and new tech
Publisher: Make that an 75€ release on steam
Lo mismo pensé😂😂🤦
They are re-modeling the meshes by hand though. The only thing it seems to do automatically is relighting and upscaling/updating the textures. Those two things are pretty huge though.
they remade literally one room in morrowind, and while this tech is incredible and groundbreaking, I'm sure even that single room took at least a few weeks worth of effort, not 5 minutes. It would take a team of tens of modders years to remake a game like morrowind even while using this tech.
Customers: I would pay for that.

I wanna see this in action with old Battlefield titles, especially 2142, that game was so underrated since it was a futuristic BF title
YES 2142!
EA would never allow this and they hate anything that extends the life of their games. Battlefield 1942 was ok on it's own but when MODS were released the game was awesome. No MODS were allowed after that game. I do agree with you on 2142, I was also a big fan of Battlefield Vietnam but unfortunately it wasn't as popular. EA waving one hand in the air, these are not the MODS you are looking for, these are the games you will now like to play.
@@dakotawilliams6725 How this is setup, it sounds like it would literally be impossible to prevent mods unless they want to stop Nvidia support all together on their games since it's intercepting the rendering output.

I cant believe this is real. That looks so fantastic that i am really fascinated with this.
This is really insane, I can understand how it's done since I have a diploma in this exact field... but it's on an whole other level of stuff we usually see.
It's really pretty basic. Just replacing textures with higher quality, replacing assets, etc. What's amazing is the work put into the tooling to make it easy to do.
It ultimately is just giving a facelift to the graphics. It's not really changing any game logic. Imagine if AI somehow was developed which could extend a game. Essentially create variations, generate quests, story lines, etc. It's possible to do that. With LLM's one could already generate stories and NPC interaction and with TTS add voicing(in any language). Some people are already working on AI to generate games. In 20 years it likely will be a reality. Likely you could type in a prompt for the type of game you want to play and it will spit one out. [assuming humanity doesn't implode due to all the corruption and psychopathy]
This feels like magic... :0
Of course it's not automated so reworking a game with this requires quite a bit of effort. But I'm sure the community will figure it out and there will be astounding results for the most popular games!
I can't believe it. It's to good to be true
Just WoW Holy Crap! Ive been gaming since the 1980s, watching and waiting as graphics has evolved over the years, but this is just light years beyond anything I had imagined for graphics cards! Amazed!

This is beyond crazy! Can't wait to see this get pushed to its absolute limits.
This is by far one of the most interesting developments by Nvidia i've ever seen. All the AI stuff and new powerful cards are all super cool and great but this sort of unleashed user powered remastering just seems too good to be true. What an amazing thing, great work Nvidia. You guys rock
They just packaged all that are already existing.

We really need this man.... seriously hope they can give us the whole thing in the future.
Absolutely amazing. I can't wait to see what people do with Soul Reaver 1 and 2, the old Tomb Raider games, Half Life, Unreal, the possibilities are endless.
Half-Life 1 beyond the original CD release uses OpenGL, not DirectX, for rendering so I am uncertain if it will be compatible with the RTX Remix suite, given they specifically state intercepting DX8 and DX9 runtimes.
@@the_kovic Ah, good point. Didn't think about that. Well, there are still tons of classic games to try.
@@the_kovic Maybe Half-Life Source is DX9?
@@PerfectHandProductions every source game is DX9 as far as I know
This looks amazing.
The meshes being altered looks insanely highpoly tho :O
Well, gotta create reasons for people to use these new higher GPUs.
Why get a 4090 when a 1080 still essentially does the job?
So things like these is needed to increase the performance needed.
The RTX Remaster tech doesn't seem to do anything for the meshes by itself, those are all being re-modeled by hand by professionals in the video. The RTX omniverse software does make it easier to swap out the models and bring them back and forth between certain modeling software.
@@kevinengland407 I think it is scanning the actual models and recreate them as meshes, thats is why the ones come from directly scan data look highpoly. But you are also right because they also swapped/added some of the models with what they have in omniverse library already i am guessing.
Also about the polycounts, Nvidia also introduced something called micro-mesh; it is Nvidia's version of the Unreal Engine 5's nanites. They both simply let highpoly meshes to be used as game assets without too much trouble. Other game engines probably will jump onto that train.
I had to double check a couple times just to make sure this wasn't an april fools upload or something. Absolutely incredible. Just wow
This is the sort of job that I would love to do. This is a dream project. I am stunned that someone else is getting paid to do this.
My God, this is incredible. The potential here is astounding. This is going to be a game changer.
All your favourite games will take a step back. RTX is like HDR, it's not beneficial visually.
It also means we can potentially get free remasters. :)

Oct. 13, 2022 - This is just amazing. This technology boggles the mind of us non-creators and programmers. As an end user, I can't wait to see what the industry comes up with in the near to middle future.
I am very excited to see if this technology can be used to remix World at War, Black Ops, and Black Ops 2 Zombies. Reliving the classics with HD graphics and lighting would be crazy!!
Sorry, unsupported. Any game that requires pixel shader 1.0 or higher is not going to work. Mostly games from 2003-4 or older would work. Some games have fixed function support AND pixel shader support like hl2.
Imagine playing Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast with this
I have both installed and if that happens i'm going to cry. imagine Kotor 1 & 2 with this

Awestruck by this.
Such a game changer... quite literally in this case.
God this is a big game changer. The only thing I can think of that kind of does this, was the ReShade stuff but that was only screenspace stuff, it didnt interact with the game. This is actually insane
Now we just need a good NPC ai tool that has great facial micro expressions and lip flaps. That area of video games is still WAAAY into the uncanny valley unless you are someone like Naughty Dog with Matrix style facial capture rigs.
It likely would not be hard to train an AI to upscale such things.
Imagine this with classic Splinter Cell
And bioshock~!
This is honestly quite impressive as a piece of tech. Wow!
That Portal example was what got me excited, honestly.
A lot of us have tons of DX8 and DX9 games in our steam libraries. Hoping this means most of those will end up with RTX mods. That could bring a lot of new life into those old games and make them worth a replay!
Any game that requires pixel shader 1.0 or higher is not going to work. HL2 supports dx9 Fixed function (runs without shaders). Basically kills most of the dx9 games out there for support. A game like Halo CE also supports fixed function at least.
yeah you can replay your favourite games in a downgraded state. All RTX is used for in games, just like high definition rendering, is make the image look less immersive. 00:16 is not an improvement at all and takes away from the game.
Man this is HUGE
This just makes me feel so much appreciation for how much of an amazing asset the construction set was. It basically turned a generation of kids into video game developers.
auto generating and moving few sliders isn't development, the people you speak of are not developers of anything ...
@@minmogrovingstrongandhealthyhow old are you? i was like 12 when the construction set came out. before that, the closest thing i could get to digital creation was microsoft paint. now, if you had thousands of dollars to buy the CD and licence adobe had back then, or had no gf or time or sports and just like were the 1% out of your other friends who picked C++ coding, instead of like ham radio, or magic the gathering, or incessant anime. (i didnt have time for any like deep geocities html website building, or like learning how to make a GIF in the 90s. So yes, when the construction set came out, it was only a tiny bit after halo and the xbox. it was earth shattering. the studio didnt just give you modability, they gave you the entire game, the entire intellectual property, and the engine that makes it work. now, to understand that scope. think of your first epic game you ever saw, i think its unlikely that even if it is moddable, that they give you a .exe file to a software suite they created, for the sole purpose of, not coding, but making it easy to build what they just finished. its like, theres a good board game. and then theres a good board game that also comes with 1,000 shades of paint, pieces, dice, and anything you want, and you can go ahead and ignore their game and just use their system to make yours.
so yeah man, that does make them developers. unless you think catching a ball isnt playing sports. or learning to draw isnt art. or singing a song isnt being a singer. it gets ridiculous doesnt it?
i didnt say they were professional game producers. but, in the case of morrowind which was a game of the year and a best seller, there is and was and in fact nothing did stop kids from totalling making their own games. not mods. totally new games. compared to roblox and minecraft and other sandbox type or open world building things, idk the sims even. it looks like crap compared to the epic scale and believability of morrowind. unfortunately, that could not be repeated in oblivion and then skyrim as it doesnt scale. now with generative ai, perhaps that could change.
giving each NPC a Large Language Model and GPT to create their own scripted actions. well, The elder scrolls tried that too with radiant AI and it was too random, suffering the same issues as chatgpt when its given free range and creativity. it starts to utter nonsense.
but now that like it can learn on its own, and it can work on itself non stop on multiple near infinite instances siomutaenously. the idea of game development is really leaving even humans behind. its now really just about thinking, who can be most creative and ambitious in their scope of their vision, because if they have the resource of time and the IT structures, well, actual like line by line coding is not really a issue anymore. heck, what would a game on the quantum as opposed to binary digital scale look like? Our current AR and VR headsets are really just more digital. its a whole other thing. and just recently IBM released, not a quantum, not a digital, but an analog AI. Wut? But yeah, because it looks like were making one big circle, and in the end, the most creative thing on earth is still, the human creator.
First off, this is incredible! Kudos to the people at Lightspeed Studios, and what a gift to the modding scene! However, I can't help myself from chuckling since AAA development is slow on adapting RT. And now Nvidia will fixes it by allowing modders (instead of game developers) xD to showcase their future vision with RT. :) And I honestly think this is great, because older games highlight much more what a great benefit RT is. Meanwhile modern games are either too demanding, or are slow at picking up RT. Also these days AAA game development has such have great fallback techniques that RT often feels like a performance hog to many people. SVOGI, Baked Lighting, perspective correct cubemaps, SSR etc. Rasterization has come far, meanwhile RT is still in its infancy. Remaking old games with RT on the other hand makes A LOT of sense!
Funny, here I was reading sentiments from people in the gaming community that think RT is a giant waste of FPS and makes little to no impact on modern games. Maybe it'll find a use case on outdated games for the foreseeable future, but it aint doing much for modern gaming, which is why devs aint bothering with it.
Smart investment to use the modding community to showcase how RT should be done and how easy it is to implement it.
I would love an RTX remix of the PC harry potter games!

I hope this is optimized in a way that you can at least play 60+ fps an not like, 20fps or even less due to requiring an extremely beefy card such the TI versions.
It depends on the modders themselves to optimize it. Since Nvidia just making the tools for modders to use.

Make your game with basic techniques, then run it through Remix to do the heavy lifting for you. Like with stable diffusion drawing an owl in paint, then the AI gives you a photorealistic owl.
If I had to choose between portal or this, I would have chosen RTX Morrowind.
Thing is that if they were to make it for Morrowind it would require more work because of outside lightening and a lot more unique textures and rooms as well as having to make some arrangements with Bethesda.
wow, big corp finally doing something for modders, astonishing gj
Man, I would pay to see this come to life.
I noticed that npc's was not shown in the demo. Would they stay low resolution while everything else gets vamped up?
i think yeah ! like in the GTA remasters , they used a similar method of an AI revamping all the textures by adding polygones and meshes and adding some dynamic lights, but the AI completely failed with the NPC's as we all know , faces structures and faces animation done by a human are far better than the ones done by an AI because humans knows exactly what it is to be alive and what a living thing really look likes , an AI can't , it's simple as that !
@@offlinegamer6756 AI cant make 3d models dummy lmao. its not "simple as that"
I'd love to see a full remix of Morrowind like this, I'd finally play it if it looked that good.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) would be amazing with this
This is actually really impressive
does every scene need to be loaded like this? how does it work in open world games?
I think if you replace certain assets those assets will be probably changed all around the game. Localized lightening is going to require the most attention after all the meshes and textures are changed. Also, I didnt hear anything about animation so same old there I guess.
