- This mod adds RTX remix path tracing into Sonic Adventure DX.
This is still a work in progress, and WILL require a RTX graphics cad of some kind

Thanks for playing my mod! There are still some big updates to come in the next few months so keep an eye out!
Looking forward to it. A lot of feedback can be found in the comments (the main one being some areas being way too dark)
Dude if I where to play this mod and get it running at more then 5 fps due to it being way more complex then Mario 64 then I would play it. But all the preformance hacks in the world won’t save me lol
One piece of recommendation, since some areas are way too dark, either add lighting to it or make it so the light ring in Sonic's hand shines brighter in dark areas, I think that would make a great effect
This is REALLY tasteful. No "everything is wet shiny shinyyyyy" overkill, the RTX changes slot in so unobtrusively.
Only comment is that some dark parts seem a bit TOO dark now, which makes realistic sense (there's no light source there), but is a little much from a gameplay perspective. The idea from maxios-7613 here of making the light ring in Sonic's hand shine brighter in dark areas seems like a good possible fix.
How do I install it I don’t know what I’m doing could you like make a tutorial
What Sonic Adventure looked like when you were a kid.
True
Real
Based
No it looked bad then also sa2 was much better.
@@Rubbe87 ok bud
Its crazy how far updated lighting alone will take a game's graphics!
Indeed
Yeah, lighting is the king of graphics in my eyes. In some places this mod almost made this game look modern.
Ray Tracing is pretty awesome but very taxing
Yeah, it will be a while before computers can handle ray tracing without nearly over 1,000 dollar GPUS
meh i dont think it really improve it all that much, and the old lighting fits the models/textures better. it also barely has an effect on night/indoor scenes. it's interesting, especially to people who already played the game, but I don't think it adds a whole lot and isn't an objectively better style for sonic adventure. maybe if the graphics were improved with HD models and textures it could work.
The games graphics holds up surprisingly well with better lighting. It really shows how important lighting truly is to a games visuals.
Yeah arkham knight is major proof of that
God I love that games visuals. For a game released in 2015, It's really beautiful
Yeah
It's why it's so annoying how DX broke the lighting from the Dreamcast version
Different NOT better. RT ruins the artistic style.
sonic adventure has the best 3d gameplay and running style. they shouldve never change it
While I do like the boost formula, I agree the adventure formula imo is better!! My first sonic game was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, so I’m obviously going to be a bit biased towards it.
I blame Yuji Naka, Iizuka and 06, Sonic Team is notorious for fixing what ain't broken.
Technically the Boost formula is just the Adventure formula but with a few additions and replacements. Spindash was swapped out with Boost, Bounce (introduced in SA2) was swapped out with Stomp, and finally Quick Step and Drift were added. People claim that the formula changes constantly, but in all honesty Heroes still uses a modified Adventure formula (just with the team gimmick) and Shadow 05/Sonic 06 lean back more into the Adventure formula as it was before Heroes, just with their own little changes. Secret Rings and Black Knight are basically just the Adventure formula on rails and with extra gimmicks on top, and the Boost Formula is again just another alteration on top of the Adventure formula. Even Lost World in its own ways is just the Adventure formula taken in another direction.
The bigger thing that has become different isn't the formula, but the physics and level design. If the stages were designed more like SA1 and SA2 stages with no 2D sections and the physics were built to improve on what the Adventure games were shooting for, the Boost formula would end up feeling like a natural progression of the Adventure games. Though, I do think Stomp and Bounce should be able to co-exist in Sonic's moveset, and Frontiers has proven the same can be true for Spindash and Boost. I think a decent way of going about it would be to do it as a middle ground between Adventure 2 and Generations. Stage design similar to the Adventure and Heroes era stages in Generations, but with no 2D sections and better on foot controls for when the player doesn't want to go fast such as for searching for and collecting moveset upgrades similar to the Adventure games. There's also a lot of potential in continuing to improve the Frontiers playstyle for hub worlds, though maybe tone down these hub areas being the "main" gameplay section and have these places mostly function as fun little movement playgrounds for the player to go from stage to stage in like a cross between Frontiers and Adventure 1.
I feel like Adventure formula has endless potential compared to boost. But add these two formulae together, and we could have something very special
@@Crow_Rising
The Adventure games had a bigger emphasis on platforming and were a more faithful translation of the 2D games into 3D while the boost formula emphasises a more reaction based playstyle on the 3D sections with most of the platforming being saved for the 2D sections, the 3D sections feature way less platforming because Sonic's controls are not optimized for platforming in the boost games, being more optimized for gaining and mantaining high speeds.
Imo it's not really the evolution of the adventure formula and is more of a departure entirely, being the main reason why other characters aren't even playable in most of the Boost era games, some of Sonic's moves had to be changed to accomodate for this type of gameplay, and just like the adventure games used the 2D games as reference, the Boost games used the Adventure games as reference, but went in a very different direction
I still think these are pretty nice games, the Boost era games tend to be more polished and less janky than any other 3D Sonic games, but I still think Sonic's Gameplay was more engaging in the Adventure games and a polished version of that gameplay style would be way better than what we got with the boost formula imo.
I don't know if they're gonna keep going with the Sonic Frontiers style, which seems to be a combination of both the Adventure and Boost formulas, tho I haven't played it yet, it looks interesting but I feel like the gama should've stayed in the oven for longer.
calling 1080p low quality is insane to me
I usually record in 1440p. That’s why I said that
@@Sonicfans1 it's barely a difference 😭
@@coolguydoesstuff7876 what is your monitor's resolution?
i guess times are changing. remember how 720p was considered "HD" at one point?
@@peckneck2439tbh I still consider it, idk if it's my eyes or what but I don't see much of difference between 720 and 1080
Fans for the past decade have been saying for the Sonic Adventure remake “Fine, I’ll do it myself” and it’s amazing 😂🔥💯
Well it’s not really a remake, just different lighting.
eh, it gives it more of a "remaster feel". For a fantastic example on what RTX remix can do, check out the HL2 RTX Remix Project.
remaster.. same that Lara got
Now imagine if you used this mod in tandem with the original versions lighting.
Looks cool.
I remember an SA2 "ray tracing mod" which just made everything look wet, so seeing one that actually looks legit is amazing.
I can get 186fps in Minecraft with the "BSL" ray tracing shaders, so I'm gonna try this with my Intel Arc A380 too. Wish me luck.
Yea I remember seeing that SA2 mod myself and personally didn't think it looked too hot. This on the other hand looks a lot better!
Yeah that last one was just zero effort Reshade slop.
Hoping for a better RT mod for SA2 someday, as an SA2 fan
People been doing those wet mods since the days of enbseries. Usually just SSGI, and they have to make everything wet to sell the effect.
Ray Tracing+Dreamcast conversion mods+CGI Styled Sonic (and maybe one day all the characters too...)=Perfection
The fact that the reanimated animations mods was never existed was crazy
I like it, but I can't help but feel the global lighting is a bit too samy or almost volumetric, like it spreads/ bleeds into everything in an uncanny way. Also dark spots are completelt dark, I'm sure that wasn't the devs' idea. There would need to be some light sources.
Also some effects leave a semi baked light for a while after they're gone.
Okay, time to play SADX again for the 50th times with that mod on
That looks pretty good! I had seen an RTX mod before and it seemed to make the ground really shinny, like it was wet, regardless of it made sense or not and I didn't think it looked very good. But again, this looks a lot better.
Finally someone adds the dreamcast lighting to DX
This isn't the dreamcast lighting? This uses RTX Remix
@@Sonicfans1 Twas just a joke
@@Yuli_Banah got ya
I’ve long thought that graphical improvements in games have stagnated but RTX continues to impress me. Makes everything feel fresh and seems to work with a lot of art styles. Cool stuff.
Makes things look different. Better is purely subjective. It doesn't work here, Sonic Teams original work is superior.
@@overwatch761 Better isn’t subjective. Art is not subjective. Visuals are not subjective. You seem very invested in this almost as if it’s a large part of your personality. Cope.
@@DukeBluedevil70 Sonic Teams original work is superior. Shoehorning RT in were it doesn't belong doesn't look good.
@@overwatch761 It does look good. It does belong. Sonic Team’s original work is inferior here. It’s 25 years old. Cope.
Although it's impressive it clashes with the og artstyle.
No
True, older video games like this weren't really created with ray tracing in mind
At first I wasn't too impressed, but the reflection of the police lights on chaos 0 looked really nice.
This is fun to test and compare, but if anyone genuinely thinks slapping ray tracing makes the game look better is objectively wrong
I see all these sonic adventure remakes on here that are just generations mods and such, but this honestly as a sonic fan is all I want. Sonic Adventure but with more updated lighting and some graphic improvements to at least pass it off as a “remake” and not just another generations mod
Also I was today years old when I figured out you can lodge back to back honing attacks with the light speed dash wtffff
Yeah, the Light speed Attack can home in on enemies like the homing attack.
I really love how well and accurate this mod is !
This looks awesome, all that game needs now is more refined controls and the dreamcast restoration mod
look, its great and all, but I think some changes would have to be made to have a more coherent vision. its sorta dark right now. needs its light sources to be reworked in all stages to look better.
It's still being worked on by the developer. Feel free to leave feedback on the game banana page, which I left in the description
Absolute insanity. Thank you
That Emerald Coast prelude cutscene actually feels like what I remember it looking like when I was a kid in 2000. Not bad at all!
Me other games with ray tracing:- hmmm ok it fine
Me seeing Sa1 and gens getting ray tracing with a mod :- Sega this is called remaster or remake learn something from the fans.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the Generations Raytracing mod. I’ll definitely be covering that once it comes out
wow that looks way better than i thought it would. id deff do a full replay on this LOL
This looks amazing
Yep, but it's hard to run.
This looks so good! Hopefully someone will do the same for SA2! The cutscenes with path tracing would be crazy
Agreed, I would love to see that. SA2 was my first Sonic game ever, so seeing it with RTX Remix would be cool to see
This looks so good!! 🤩
(too bad I don't have an RTX GPU or any GPU for that matter lol)
Dude, I’m surprised you’re even recording at all and the game is running decently honestly! I’ve run Mario 64 with retracing and I barely get 30 FPS and that’s with like six lights max and the lowest resolution
This is what a remaster of Sonic Adventure should look like!
holy fuck the memories are coming back, this game is soo awesome !
Imagine this with that mod that makes sonic look like the promo art :-O or those mods that make the whole game more modern
Now the only thing this game needs is remaking all textures into high detailed ones and you will get the Sonic Adventure remake that we all wanted
Emerald Coast has never looked more y2k vaporwave / frutiger aero
That's look really awesome
The end of speed highway through me off. It's lighting looks like it's about dusk, but I always saw that part of the stage as being shortly after dawn (given the cooler colors and how the rest of the stage was night).
i guess i am in the minority because i honestly do not like the look. DX already broken the lighting of SA1, to me raytracing just highlights those errors. everything bright lol
I'm usually not a guy for graphics like it usually doesn't have any effect on whether I buy a game or not but when it enhances the experience of the universes I play and love like Sonic the little things just make it that much better. It makes me sort of more immersed. But also I do love just seeing old graphics it pleases me with nostalgia and all that and plus there are universes out there where that's how reality "looks"
Even if it’s left to the fans we are closer to a remake with cool shit like this
my problem is how how lowly lit everything is, the darks are just too high. need to find some way to brighten up the unlit areas with some kind of ambient lighting effect.
Damn that's so cool
Awesome!!
1:45 Casually Approach Child
That was not my intention lol. I just wanted to show off the real time shadows
Amigo juegas como un experto 👏👏
Getting some serious GTA Definitive Edition vibes with this
It's... it's beautiful
Looks fantastic with ray tracing on Sonic adventure
It does!
We need games with this look
Sonic Adventure Remake in the future:
2:55 delicious Sonic Frontiers level of pop in
I do appreciate someone actually showing the levels and playing normally, as opposed to spin dashing every second, bugging out the game to cross gaps.
I like to usually play games as intended, but I do like speed running
eat you heart, sega
SEGA can be dense sometimes, but I like what I'm seeing for Shadow Generations
Don't you mean *open* your heart?
@@SwiftAsTheWind yes, as patolaganatom.
It's funny how you chose the 2 hardest stages to get A emblem on.
What Sonic looked like on the Dreamcast commercials
Imagine the og with raytracing? 😮
Sonic Adventure remaster would be like….
I wonder how well this would run with the dreamcast conversion mod
The Casino's Vault opening.... Is that what Millionaires felt like getting their first million? ❤❤😂
i honestly love this mod. hoping for updates that make it run more smoothly. i dont know what graphics card you have but i have a rtx 4060 ti and it jitters from 40 to 60 fps on medium settings. when i play things like portal rtx that also uses rtx remix it runs way smoother and consistently on higher settings.
I have a RTX 3070. I ran the game at 1080p
This looks really nice, now....Try House Of The Dead II.
You'll need more than just any RTX card to run this at a decent framerate, even for a game as old as this since it uses path tracing which is more demanding than ray tracing & RT on its own is still pretty demanding on most setups right now. You'd probably have to have an x70/80 class card from the 30 or 40 series to even have hopes of running it at a playable FPS. What's your PC setup?
OH YEAH! This is happenin'!
huh? (police sirens in the distance)
I would play this over a remaster any day. updated light sources is good enough for me!
I agree. But I also think dynamic Shadows are a must.
This looks great any RTX card? Or Nvidia is a must? I have an RX 6950 XT? I think that using upscalers and frame generators should be the goto when dealing with such graphical overhaul.
This is like looking through a glass window thoroughly cleaned with Windex
This is how we thought Sonic Adventure looked on 9-9-99.
Ray tracing on SA1 is very nice To rejuvenate old graphics
Ok but the thing about this mod… do they actually use the RT Cores? 💀
Cuz this could just be a more fancy baked in shadows mod, with Bloom and reflections, all of which could be done on non-rtx GPUs.
Dang, there was this HD texture pack uploaded years ago that updated the stage PVM's while not overdoing it. It's a pity I can't find the video anymore... would go nice with this mod.
Do you have a link to the textures in question?
I was ready for more Reshade trash with that title, this actually looks alright.
Yeah, I hate Reshade
It looks really cool close up and in Speed Highway. But it makes the sky look muddy or like a sand storm is happening in Emerald Coast. KInda makes the skybox look brown I guess is what I am saying.
Oh damn, hey there. I loved your video on development history on Sonic 2!! As for the mod, it’s still being worked on by the developer.
@@Sonicfans1 glad to hear it. Casino Night looks great too.
Yeah, I love how that looks too.
Walking/Running animation was at its best here… I never had a problem with charging the light speed dash
I never liked having to charge up the light speed dash. I like how it's handle better in future games with the press of a single button
@@Sonicfans1 nah… it’s too boring to me…
Why are the tunnels so dark? Shouldn't at least a bit of light leak insde them?
Man, if this was the remake I wouldn't complain 😅
could you imagine if an SA1 remake looked like this?
This is how it looked back in 1998
Me: Hmm…
My AMD GPU: Abso-fucking-lutely not!!
This makes me wonder how it'd look with the Dreamcast conversion graphics. I know the original Dreamcast lightning isn't possible without an emulator, but I'm curious nonetheless.
That mod is required for the mod to look the best, but don't use the lantern engine, as it breaks the visuals
Ah, this is exactly how the game looks in one of my memories. I distinctly remember coming home from the beach as a young child in 2001, and while still lightly coated in salt and sand, popping on SA1 on the Dreamcast to extend the beach vibes in emerald coast. It looked basically identical to the beach I just came from to my kid brain
So great
What are your specs if you usually record in 1440p?, as still seeing some frame drops for 1080p, but looks great so far.
Intel core i9 13900 and a Rtx 3070. I plan to change gpu either later this year or early next year
it's funny because it looks amazing on emerald coast but pretty terrible on speed highway because of the way the lighting works in the game; emerald coast is all direct bright light, but speed highway has so few light sources that switching over to accurate lighting makes everything look dull and dim
Looks pretty cool but there are points where I feel the lighting can be done better, seeing the characters just get too much darkness on their model when the outside of the darkness should be gradiented with the surrounding light natural light source. Some areas with this hardware are just so darn dark it just makes me wish they mixed in some more natural lighting to it. but that's just me being a nitty picky pleb :D.
But regardless this is still amazing to see on a 1999 game, hope this classic meme game still lives on for many many more decades to come.
Man, I must be old if 1080p is considered low quality and necessary to apologize for.
I usually upload at 1440p. 1080p gets compressed to hell, and to me looks really bad. 2k and 4k uses less compression in comparison
Lol this is exactly what I'd imagine a remake would look like minus the characters
I usually think that raytracing that's simply slapped on top of a preexisting game kinda ruins the original's artstyle, but this one actually looks pretty nice. Still needs some reworking in some places where there's so little light that it's hard to tell what's happening tho. I also wonder just how much of this could have been done via pre-calculated "baked" lighting similar to the one done for Unleashed, a surprising number of those light sources don't move so it's not like those need to be done in real time.
Hey if you put this mod with mods that upgrade the issues and switch the textures and model for better one then you will have a sonic adventure remake
I hope sega remakes SA1 and SA2 like this.
No.
I'm not going to lie if you like the same effect could be achieved with good baked lighting & circular rendering.
You know what I'm going to try to recreate this game in godot I get my Adderall back.
Can't promise it'll look the best but should feel nice and it should look similar to this. Not quite as good but it would be a lot more accessible.
Imagine this plus texture mapping 😮
do you mean normal maps? Cause that is something that's going to be added in the future according to the developer
Man they really need to do a remaster of this game.
I agree.
The lighting in the caves in the second phase of Emerald Coast did not scale well. It’s pitch black.
To be fair, it would be dark in a cave if it has no lights.
@@Sonicfans1 even lost world did something for that.
Im referring to irl lighting. Caves are dark
Not bad.
Which version of the game is this mod applied to? Is it the steam version or one of the console versions emulated?
It’s the Steam version.
This is really cool except that with my 3060 this runs in slow motion on any setting other than ultra performance. Also some places like Final Egg are way too dark.
this will be sonic adventure in 2010
It went from a Potato to a Shiny Potato lol
lol
we need the adventure series remastered
SADX : Into the dark Edition. ^^
Would my 2060 be good enough for this or no?
