when you keep getting pushed aside for so long, you start noticing the pattern. no sense in listening to someone when all they've ever done in the past is dismiss you.
Hey nat, the reason why Drago can control his alpha is that he found the dragon when it was just an egg, you can see this in "race to the edge". His alpha even when it is million times bigger is scared of Drago because of the trauma, he still thinks that Drago can hurt him. Edit: the metal stick was a tool in real life to cuase the same effect with elephants(for circus purpose).
@@Delsin4077 yeah I was talking about the other egg, when that dude(don't remember the name) failed Drago and got killed, and then Drago said he will find his own alpha.
Honestly, if you've never seen the Kung-Fu Panda movies, that's another stellar trilogy by Dreamworks. It does have the appearance of a silly cartoon led by a Jack Black comedic character, but it has a ton of heart, really inspiring themes/messages, memorable villains and a beautiful soundtrack. Highly recommend.
I always think its kinda funny how Gobber shouldnt be able to shoot that damn arrow whith his prosthetic hand club thingi but besides that its just lovely
To be fair to Stoic, in the last movie he ignored Hiccup because he was secretly ashamed of him, now he's just very enthusiastic for Hiccup to take over so he's ignoring him because he's in fantasy land. He's no longer ashamed just overly proud. Like a father who won't let his son tell him he doesn't want to play football anymore, because he's reliving his own glory days.
I remember being so surprised and sad about Stoick death, I've seen this kind of things in other animated movies but this one took me out of place, Stoick really seemed like someone who can't be touched and I think the way they managed his death at the funeral was beautiful (Gobber's speech broke my heart 🥺), this trilogy really is amazing ✨
Stoick’s Death in How to Train your Dragon 2 is still the saddest death in any animated film/show for me personally, because I became so emotional invested in his character over the years. I saw the first movie and all of the Dragons: Riders of Berk episodes and watched his character progress from hating dragons to having one of his own. Then I saw the second movie 4 years later and watched him reunite with his wife after he thought he had lost her forever. He was so happy that his family was finally back together again, then moments later he died trying to protect what he had just gotten back. And on top of that Drago forced Toothless to kill him, and Stoick had accepted Toothless into his family and the last thing he saw was him jumping in front of a blast protecting his only son from dying to his best friend… That broke me. He was a great man, a warrior, a chieftain, a father, a friend. *Rest In Peace Stoick Haddock the Vast. Your legend and sacrifice will never be forgotten.*
HTTYD2 is actually the reason I don’t watch movie trailers any more. Not even teaser trailers. I can’t risk it, I want an experience that’s as fresh as possible when I watch a film for the first time. Sucks that Netflix have started using spoiler-y thumbnails 😒
I'm sure you've seen it, knowing your background, but Prince of Egypt is a forgotten masterpiece. It's just... one of the best pieces of art to come out of this field.
@@frost1977 Wow I thought I was the only one. I think it’s because of the animation and the colour tone choice. It looks very saturated. Good movie regardless.
Hiccup deserves all the feels, having leadership of his people pushed on him like this during their darkest hour. I like that both he and Toothless visually age up here.
The red death was a selfish queen who ruled through fear, same as Drago's Bewilderbeast who used his status to control. Valka's Bewilderbeast was nurturing and was respected rather than forcing his control on the others. Toothless took that and through the trust and loyalty and respect he shares with Hiccup stands strong and proves what a true alpha is.
My favorite moment in this film is the moment Hiccup is announced as Chief in the end. As a story beat it's the obvious way to progress the narrative but the animation and attention to detail is phenomenal. As we slowly slow push in on a CU of his face, you can tell he takes a deep breath, preparing himself for that responsibility. As a viewer you can totally feel the weight of his new title. The score during this moment perfectly mirrors it too, it all sounds and feels very heavy.
Stoic's death hurt me as much as Mufasa's 😭 I never had a good father figure in my life, so I get very attached to loving/supportive dads in movies. His character growth really did it for me, too.
If you haven't already, you should totally watch the Iron Giant and the Incredibles, two films written and directed by Brad Bird. They're both considered some of the best animated films of all time.
This HTTYD saga is probably my favourite animated one ever... It not olny has so much drama and humor, but it has a lot of heart. Can't wait to see your reaction to the 3rd one :)
Freaking trailer spoiling everything, that would have been an AMAZING reveal! I made a concerted effort to avoid every single trailer for #3 because of that.
"He's modeled after a cat" Yeeeah, I have a black cat. And a friend of mine only ever calls him Toothless (his name is Max) because she said his eyes look exactly like Toothless, and now I can't unsee it.
How to train your dragon is one of those rare trilogies that are AMAZING from start to finish, and have emotional rollercoasters in all of them.. The whole this is about the journey of hiccup and toothless over the years, and with age, different problems arise... Cant wait for movie 3!!!
This one is my fav of the trilogy. Such beautiful visuals, I love Valka and seeing how much Stoik has improved his relationship with Hiccup. Great action, Hiccup's amazing innovation and becoming a great rolemodel for people with disabilities. And of course, Drago is freggin badass. He's a great brutal mirror to Hiccup, and much better than the third movie's villain, who might as well have just flat out said "I'm your evil version, get it? I'M EVIL HICCUP, GET IT, DO YA GET IT?!?" *mashes you over the head with a sledgehammer*
Fun Fact: The Bewilderbeasts in the movie are implied not to be fully grown. We see an egg of the exact same coloring as Valka's Bewilderbeast (implied to be the same dragon) and a skeleton of one who is far larger then both combined in the show.
Toho studios isn't much better. One of the channels I watch reviews old B movies. Toho is now a meme on the channel because of how ruthless they are about films they put out going all the way back to the 60's. Brandon now put's up place holders saying blocked by Toho where ever he has had to make cuts because of them.
Fan Fact: The first two times Hiccup flew by himself the goal was for Toothless to pick him up mid flight. The last scene where Hiccup ignites the gas is the first time they did it correctly.
There were multiple series between the first and second movie that fills in the things like the armor and wingsuit. I fully recommend watching them if you get the chance.
"How did he get this creature to be scared of him?" Surprisingly, it's his weapon. The weapon he's holding is a real life weapon called a bullhook, and it was traditionally used in India (I think?) to "tame" elephants. Basically they'd beat it in the uncomfortable spots (knees, groin, etc.) as children if they didn't behave, and the elephant would carry the trauma into its adult life. If it heard a human yelling and swinging the bullhook, it would behave, because it remembered what happened to it as a child. It's really sad. Interestingly, if a trainer ever dropped their bullhook their elephant(s) would often attack them, feeling as if they'd just lost their power.
Yeah, I agree; thumbnails can really spoil things at times. The best time for movie watching and purchasing though was in the mid 80's. Movies had hand painted artwork for their promotional campaigns. They were truly works of art. For example the cover art for the movie "Big Trouble in Little China" was excellent. As the 80's were nearing their end though Live photos were starting to be copy/pasted onto VHS covers and movie posters. Then came the beginnings of photoshop and now here we are with digitally crafted collages.

My dad almost put one of our dogs down when we were kids. One of the dogs bit my brother (barely broke the skin, was fixed with 2 band-aides) and my dad came into the room because my brother was crying and the dog yelped. As son as my brother told him the dog bit him, my dad instantly thought he would have to put the dog down. Upon further inspection, he realized that the dog's ear was bleeding. See, she was a nice dark brown color. And upon further questioning, my brother admitted he bit her ear first because he thought it was chocolate. That dog never bit anyone again (because no one bit her again), and my brother also never bit a dog again. So seeing the instant reaction of pushing away the dragon after his father was hurt...even under different circumstances, always reminds me of that story and the 13 amazing years I got to spend with her. This is my favorite trilogy, and I'm glad you reacted to it.
That song is just... so powerful, and breaks my heart. One of my favorite RUclipsrs, Jonathan Young, actually did a _very_ beautiful cover of it years ago, and it gets me every time I listen to it T_T But yeah, this movie series is just... _so_ powerful. "His parents never listen to him."
To be fair, Hiccup didn't listen to his father either. So it runs in the family.
Stubbornness is an occupational hazard
He’s even worse at listening to Hiccup in the books. Mind you, the entire village is, so…
But I'd say kids *learn* this from their parents, it not necessarily much dependent on genes. So it's still the parents fault.
Vikings are stubborn

22:26 "with love, you dumbass." Has to be my new favorite quote
Natalie, Another great animated story is Alita Battle Angel. You'll love it
yes, that movie is awesome. She will definitely love it
My dad almost put one of our dogs down when we were kids.
Finally! Let's do this!
18:05 Maybe because the nest is a distinct spiky ice island that looks like the same ice that Bewilderbeasts spits

That song is just... so powerful, and breaks my heart. One of my favorite RUclipsrs, Jonathan Young, actually did a _very_ beautiful cover of it years ago, and it gets me every time I listen to it T_T But yeah, this movie series is just... _so_ powerful. My wife still refuses to watch the third movie XD
"I had a facial and had a huge allergic reaction..."
That can sometimes happen if the guy just had really spicy food.
