That’s what I really liked about his character. He felt normal. Not a “perfect victim” I guess like in Disney movies (like a Cinderella type), but he’s genuinely mad at those who’ve dismissed him. And rightfully so. And so even though he can’t do anything about it, he’ll make these little quips to show he knows what’s going on and he doesn’t like it.
This is what I want in a character. Someone is is kind, calm, brave, diplomatic and wise, but still feel very flawed, inexperienced and emotional who makes mistakes, which makes him feel believable.
Agreed, I'm a teenage boy myself and he's one of my comfort characters because he's very relatable to me. Of course I'm nowhere near as cool as him, but he has many problems which remind me of myself, not to mention his attitude towards the world. Also, my father is pretty similar to Stoick and my mother is just like Valka, I can totally see us being like them if we lived on Berk.
Damn I forgot how embarrassing he was in the 1st movie...RELATABLE AF and funny and sarcastic as hell no wonder we all love him From zero to hero Dude is legit inspiring.
I like that even when Hiccup grows up and becomes more confident, his overall demeanour stays the same. Like, yes, he’s a badass with a flaming sword now, but he is still very much the dork we all know and love. He’s more comfortable with himself, but his personality remains intact. It’s masterful character evolution.
Hiccup in the first movie is a dork and very lovable yet his sarcasm is on point. And he's just done with everyone's shit. Also he just collapses after freeing Toothless, peak comedy.
Lets not forget that no matter how scawny he look, _he lifted that big ass hammer and can hold onto a dragon going god knows how fast_ Will forever love him decking snotlout in the netflix series lol
Ok but can we appreciate how he had a pretty good villain backstory but was still a protector and fought for what was right. Rejected, called weak, called a dissapointment by his own father.
He's kind of a perfect protagonist. His character growth is palpable and evident. And he's cute, especially in the second film. Whoever wrote him, knew what they were doing. Same with Stoick. He was actually a pretty good father and mentor. Very human like too.
Well, there's lightning mcqueen! He even retired! I mean, look at his _very_ old-looking design at the... uh... 4th? Was it 4th? Movie! _So_ old and definitely is worth showing to Doc!
Not even 30 seconds in and being jumpscared by a bulk bogan joel clip in a hiccup compilation made me have to do a double take this is the best thing that's ever happened to me holyshit
Looking back, you realize that Hiccup’s arc wasn’t getting better at what he was bad at, but improving what he was already good at. Even from the beginning, he was a gifted inventor and designer, but he was mocked for his lack of physical strength since that didn’t fit with a village of Vikings. Meeting Toothless gave him the chance to express himself, using his intellect to help and study the dragon. With his animal companion, he gained the confidence to show his true self in a way that helps others in unexpected ways.
@@EmmaKoob and I highly recommend them. VERY different from the movies but still just as good. Focuses much more on plot and lore than emotion and action. There re twelve books and they came before the movies. The books tied for me with all the movies and shows

What I find particularly impressive is that during Toothless doing barrel rolls and dives, Hiccup is actually also instinctively adjusting the tail fin to make them possible while commentating expressionlessly 🤣🤣 It’s so funny how they’re both on the same page and not at the same time
"ThAnK yOu FoR nOtHiNg YoU uSeLeSs RePtIlE"

It's the way he says so normally and unamused that always gets me.

One of the most accurate depictions of a teenager in fiction.
"Between you and me the village could do with a little less feeding don't you think?"

Hiccup is one of the best characters in existence. Not from Httyd or DreamWorks, he is one of the best characters to ever be created.

Yeah but Toothless is better.
Hiccup constantly being sarcastic and awkward is the best he's so goofy 🫡😭

Race to the Edge shows that there can be serious consequences. RIP Snotlouts jaw.
