- Got an overheating PS4? Many people think their PS4 is overheating when it just has a loud fan or feels hot to the touch. The truth is that neither of those mean that your console is overheating. When any PS4, including the Slim and the Pro, overheats it does two things...it beeps loudly 3 times and it gives you an error on the screen telling you that the console is too hot. (They used to also show a red light but they don't do that anymore.)
This video shows you exactly what happens when your PS4 overheats.

Basil Salazar all models of the ps2 turn off when they reach a certain temperature now it wasn't perfect but most do and it prevents any permanent heat damage to the ps2 most of the time

14' to me,and works fine for now,the only things is that its a bit weird,when i am in the menu the fan turns slower and the PS4 gets a bit more hot but its still okey,but if i play a game the fan turns faster and starts to cold,maybe some thermal paste is missing,i should clean it up soon lol

You have to clean the dust out of your Ps4! Just look for a tutorial on RUclips. Did it with mine and it went from yet engine back to normal and is really quiet now.

Have never had any problems with PlayStation Consoles since 1997. Is good to see what happens when it overheats. I have installed a 4TB for my PS4 Pro and have never had issues of overheating, they are really build good with Air Cool.

I can game up to 5 or 6 hours on my slim (that's the most I play in a day) without it heating up that much.
@@TrentM03 but the bare cpu isnt out the cpu is hotter than the air blowing out alot hotter i ended up getting a 3rd degree burn from a xbox 360 cpu when i had rghed it the air blowing is just disapated heat from the heat sink

I made a rookie mistake with my PS4. It's a Sony refurbished launch console with a 2TB drive installed. It started running hot and the fan started getting louder about three years into owning it. Took it apart. Thermal paste was dried out. Applied some new paste...and then it actually overheated. So I take it back apart.
Turns out the dry thermal paste was half the issue. The the cooling fins were clogged with dust. Near as I can figure enough heat was bleeding out around the old paste that the fan was just clearing it passively (as in not through the heat sink). When I replaced the paste all the heat was being transferred to the heat sink as it should be. But the sink was clogged. So it actually built up more heat internally than it did with the old dried paste.
After I cleaned the heat sink out, system fan quieted down significantly and the system has been running like a champ since then.
Yep, this is common. So many people think it needs new thermal paste. 95% of overheating repairs we get here are either a clogged heat sink or a faulty fan.

I cleaned my PS4 after it was overheating, and used one of your videos and went step by step with you... everything works great now, so great infact, that I thought the fan wasn’t connected because it was so quiet.... I have the tuxedo black first edition... the light blinks red when it overheated... i got it used, and it sounded like an airplane since day one... it sounds silent now... dead silent...
I redid the thermal paste, I even had a little wire and a rag and cleaned the fins of the heat sink... I think it’s better than a new one. Lol.

My 2013 PS4 was getting so loud playing red dead 2 that I thought it was going to burst into flames at any moment. Nice to know it was just having to overcompensate for the dust inside and wasn't in danger of actual failure. I already took it apart a little bit just by removing the power supply and cleaning the fan and the accessible parts of the heatsink and that worked really well and its pretty quiet now. I can tell I've watched too much tronicsfix because I now want to strip it down completely even though I have no need to!
I opened mine up after for the first time in 5 years and was pleased to see barely any dust inside. Im not tech savvy so I just quickly cleaned the fan of the little dust it had and the surrounding areas and called it day. I keep it on a shelf but with plenty of space to breathe, always laid flat.

Ive had my ps4 since Christmas of 2015 and it got really loud over the years. I re-applied thermal paste to the CPU and I can hardly hear the fan playing Rdr2.
love how people that play consoles are somehow surprised about this... im surprised the console doesn't try throttling first, reduce speed of hardware as gets hotter and hotter.. may make game play more choppy and less playable but its common way PC hardware handles thermals.. if temp curves too steep just reduce clock speeds of GPU and CPU, if that fails to keep temps under control and gets too hot then shut down.. i do wish more PCs told you when temps are too high.. but its incredibly rare it would ever need to thanks to layers of other protections, just nice add on feature should be considered.

I've overheated my PS4 twice this year, the second time was about two weeks ago. How did this happen? I left my console on for three days straight, whilst playing online games during the day and watching NETFLIX at night. My console is positioned in a well vented area and I often have my fan on and my door wide open but that did not stop it from overheating. I turned it all off for about an hour and turned it back on, I heard the start up sound but my screen, there was no picture. Eventually the picture came back the same day, or if it's your first time overheating the console then it will be fine the next day. Moral of the story, don't disable the sleep timer on your console, even if the room is well ventilated. Thanks 👍

I was playing fortnite, my fan was being loud like it is as always and then it suddenly turned off like I couldnt hear my fan at all and then 1 min 30 secs later my ps4 got the overheating problem

I think you missed the point with this one. People who claim their PS4 is overheating are simply concerned when their console sounds like a jet engine.
Now technically the console is still within operating limits, but the temperature is high enough to where the fan has to work overtime to keep the console cooled. This is worth being concerned about and may mean that the console needs a good clean out or the re application of thermal paste.
Overheating is the simple term for this, even though the console hasn't reached its thermal maximum it's still getting hotter than it should.

Unlikely, but the ethernet is onboard, which means its integrated to the motherboard. A damaged board could bring network issues.

I left my pro on for a day but the next day i turned it off, good thing i have a ps4 slim too. My pro and slim are next to each other, that way if one gets hot then i can use the other one.
My pro is super loud I just end up putting my head phones on so I can hear without blasting the tv

That shouldn't cause any issues
Lol I'm out of shelf space as well and don't want to stack cause the amount of heat they make. If you do it anyway put the pro on top cause the xb1x exhausts vents are on the bottom and the pro on the top.
If you play your PS4 while the xbone is on top then that may be your problem. I always have my consoles with a little bottle cap at the back. Idk of its just me but I never faced overheating before.
