  • I Sold Broken Consoles - Or Did I?! I sold 2 consoles I had fixed but when the customers received them they said they didn't work. So I had the consoles shipped back to me so I could see what I did wrong - or if there is something else going on.

    Can’t understand how HDMI ports get damaged so frequently, once my console is set up and plugged in, it’s there for good and doesn’t move (I think my ps4 was plugged in for about 3 years before I moved it) must be different circumstances for everyone but for me once it’s plugged in, it stays that way

    • @matt4193
      @matt4193 Месяц назад +1

      People love to use weird HDMI brands and wiggle the connector when they can't do a straight pull to get the connector out. I too find it weird since HDMI is not a super grippy connector unless you do something really wrong with it like bending it out of shape. The old port looks to be bent towards the PCB which makes me think maybe they tried to plug USB instead and making it worse.

    Steve what I would do when I would sell things is to take clean pictures of the repairs, or parts swapped out. Then once all together take pictures from all sides. Then when someone would say "It stopped working all of a sudden." I'd have pictures to compare with to see if they had opened it. So much so with certain people I'd even go as far to make sure to have some if not all philip screws in the same orientation an take pictures of that. That trick saved Me so many times from people claiming they never opened it or had it opened by someone else. But now you can just get some custom printed VOID stickers made, and put 2-3 on there.

    It was really nice of you Steve but buyers need to face consequences when they break stuff and parts are lost. It sets a bad precedent to bend over backwards this much.
    The second console return was fair, it would have been difficult to catch that in testing.

The ribbon cable for the top screen of my really rare 3DS tore (The console can turn on sometimes, but pops and turns off if the hinge moves). Maybe adding your own warranty stickers could be a great idea. Also to mark what youve checked, like an ok mark over the hdmi would've let you know that you tested it (maybe both outside and inside to avoid scams) and lots of pictures on serial, stickers in packaging for future proofing like somebody else already said

    My Model X was overheating just like the white unit you have displayed in the video. I re-pasted the CPU and bought thermal pads, cutting each one to place on each module. I removed the thermal putty and replaced each with a pad. I also put a long pad down the surface mounted caps vs the re-using any putty. My Model X is now super quiet and doesn't ramp up even under heavy load. Going to take the same approach on my Gen 1 PS4 Pro since it's having the same issues.
