  • I Paid $500 for This BROKEN Halo Infinite Xbox Series X! Let's Fix It. This Limited Edition Xbox Series X has a broken HDMI port which I should be able to replace without too much trouble and get it working again... unless it ends up being more complicated than that. Which it usually does.

    • @billythefxck
      @billythefxck 11 месяцев назад +34

      I actually think it has to do with the newer HDMI technology getting too hot. They appear to get hot enough to melt the plastic that holds the pins. Not a coincidence that we are seeing 100x the amount of broken ports as the predecessors

    • @giggity4670
      @giggity4670 9 месяцев назад +20

      @@billythefxck No i think it is just people not taking care and forcing the HDMI in or pulling it out with some force as the housing was bent and you see some scratch marks on the plastic next to the port so blind plugging it is never good if upside down and you force it in will brake the pins and bend the metal housing that is what it looks like with this one.

And when you're done you can Stick it back down and it actually looks pretty good.

Recently (mostly thanks to you), I have had the courage to try my hand at some simple repairs on consoles we have had lying around. I think I want to work my way towards maybe doing it as a side hustle one day. A few days ago, I tried my first ever soldering project which was changing the batteries in my Pokemon Silver and Crystal that I have had laying around for years that were not holding saves. I was so excited when I tested them after successfully soldering the new batteries in and they worked perfectly! Thank you so much for all that you do and keep up the good work!

    Use an iron to tin the whole thing with leaded solder first, to lower melt temp. Once you have removed the port, tin the area with leaded solder and wick everything back up. Re-tin the area with leaded solder. Position the board with the port up and heat from underneath with no nozzle. Once you see the solder melt, install the port and give it a second or two for the port pins to come up to temp, remove heat and hold till it freezes. You will never damage ports or traces that way. JMHO Thank you for all you share!!

    That kind of build up of dust tends to happen when you are in a place with thick carpet and there is a lot of people where the oils from our bodies and breath build up quickly on fans.
    Great job on this fix. Maybe in terms of using compressed air, you could get a small air fume dome or make a makeshift one with a big box, a clear acrylic panel (so you can film), and a vacuum cleaner. Would allow you to speed up some projects like this.

      A significant % of the dust in a house is microscopic pieces of skin we shed. If you have dogs / cats / birds, they make alot of dust too.
      Pull a paper tissue from the box in the Sunlight : you'll see lots of paper dust. An air purifier will remove alot of dust, but quality filters need replacing 2 to 4 times a year so the price can be a problem.
      MERV-13 filters do a fine job. ( You don't need "HEPA certified" whatever. )

    13:20 have you considered using a laminar flow cabinet?
    Sometimes they are also called fume cabinets.

    It always helped me to use solder wick on those small hdmi pins before flipping over the board to remove the final 4.
    Everyone works differently though. Give it a try next time. It may help save some time.

    The boards on them series x models are thick. I use a cheap harbor freight heat gun on the bottom and on the top I use my good heat gun. Usually takes less than a minute for the port to come off with no traces damaged. The first time I done a series x I damaged the pads as well

    Great job. He said no one sees the side opposite the fan so does that mean you should stand it vertically? I got mine about a year now and it seemed it should lay horizontal since it has rubber feet and the blu ray slot is horizontal. Just curious.

    Why not use some solder wick on the pins before removing?

    I didn't put enough thermal past on a PS3 slim. It screamed when I turned it on. Had to take it back apart. I add the right amount and spread it so the dye is completely covered.

    For dust, use a sand blaster box. (No sand) Just use the air nozzle and use a vacuum to pull air clean. Seems like a lot, but it is very effective.

    The best part is that I just get it by mistake. I wasn't sure this was a special edition, lol

    I'm curious. Are there any other hardware differences between the special edition vs regular motherboard besides the speaker, and does the regular motherboard still have the traces and everything to transfer the speaker over if the special edition had a bad motherboard for example?

      Nothing special. Just outside deco. I know scorpio edition had a halo guy riding a scorpio on its mother board. But thats about it. Just the design

    My younger brother has one. The store we work at had 2 of them come in, but they never put them out on the sells floor, so they were just in the back sitting. They told us if we wanted one, just go ahead and take it up to the front and pay for it. It came with an elite controller and the special edition controller
    Edit: We were also getting series Xs during the huge shortage and they were letting us buy them before they even put them out on the floor, so I would just buy them for people that asked me for one

    8:50 You should have added leaded solder (or low melt solder) on the HDMI port pins to lower the melting point.
