And I feel that “ugly” is reserved for ravages and roll rats to be honest, and while they aren’t winning a beauty contest any time soon, they will benefit your life in ways you couldn’t imagine. As a proud crab owner, please, use them. Try pressing C when it’s holding a creature if they aren’t seeming cool enough.
An easier and faster way to aquire the ravager mount: tame Eques (horse), use back kick on ravager: instant knock out. No need to use tranq arrows, etc. You should be able to bang this one out at noob level.

Contrary to what you said, light creatures are not all the same, each of the 4 current light pets in game, have a major benefit over the other, for example, a featherlight has a super high recharge rate, but not much in capacity or area of the light, bulbdog on the other hand, has the highest capacity, but very small recharge rate

Rock Drakes are stronger, cooler and faster than Wyverns a drake can travel the same distance a wyvern travels about twice as fast. Doesn't matter if it's plain terrain or Rocky the only "downside" of Drakes is that they don't fly but still Drakes are definitely better than Wyverns
I managed to steal rock Drake eggs without anything but a haze suit and climbing picks. Because they all got stuck in a piece of skeleton and i could literally walk away. 😃
I would probably put Doedicurus at the same spot as the Anky as it excels at stone gathering compared to the Anky. My three early tames are always Doedic, Anky and the resident woodfarmer(Beaver/Mammoth on Island, Thorny Dragon on Scorched Earth, Roll Rat on Aberration and so forth). And also an honorable mention for the frog as it is one of the best Cementing Paste sources on the map.

Letting the drake tank, you can tranq and tame about anything. Plus get close to things like velonasaurs, manas and snow owls since they don't aggro on it. Net gun, tranq, tame and done, making it an OP taming mount. Their attacks are powerful enough to contest anything that might try to go after a tame. No other dino can travel, tank and tame like a rock drake. Megalos, the sleepy dinos, are the king in aberration but worthless on every other map, especially extinction. Reapers are good in specific situations but can't cover terrain very fast at all.
He might not be able to jump but he is a brick shithouse. Fast as if not faster than a gally, hits as hard as a rexy, can carry upward of 1,000 pounds, thousands of health, crazy stamina. They're such good all round beasts

Bruh .high weight and speed are the only stats that matter. I mean like dont put 5 levels into speed and whatever else if u have speed and weight high then u can actullay have other stats be useful

Actually Featherlight has the best range, Bulbdog has best charge, Glowtail has best Regen, and Shinehorn is jack-of-all trades.
