It would do better if people weren't so brand fixated.... im convinced most upper class people are so arrogant they dont even test drive the car they want, so fat chance they will ever try out the competition
good review. For a similar price, you can get an LS but i sat in that car and it feels straight out of the 80s. Even the buttons, switches and displays looks very outdated not to mention the exterior is not great. That desperately needs an update in order to get anyone other than lexus fans to consider it. In canada, a 7 series or s class with similar features to the g90 cost around 130 to 150k or about 2x the price so they're not even close. Good job genesis.
Infiniti is very slow at redesigning their cars(eg,Q70,QX50,QX70) and Q80 might as well be in concept hell forever. Acura RLX sales is already at oblivion. mean while Lexus is updating their models every 3 years. It seems like Infiniti might be releasing new models soon around 2018. Acura on the other hand only have their bread and butter MDX(TLX sales suffering too).
I just got the new 2018 G90 5.0 RWD before the 2019’s eventually get here. From my understanding, there are no major changes in the ‘19 model year. The G90 feels very German in the way it rides and in the way the doors shut tight with that characteristically German thump. I think it may have to do with all of that high-strength steel that have been incorporated into the frame and body panels. I may never go back to Lexus again. Similarly-trimmed, optioned-out Lexus LS500 is pushing $100K!
ALEX - great review as always but a suggestion: Possibly in the size (length) comparison section, can you place numbers (180...190...200..210 inches) on the bar (starting at 1:41) instead of a "smaller/bigger" arrow.
Alex, your auto reviews are simply fantastic! Hands down the best I've seen here on RUclips. Your systematic approach to analyzing and explaining the car as well as its features is excellent. Keep up the GRRRRREAT work!!
The V8 K900 comes with an LCD Instrument Cluster. Why didn't they just use it for the G90? IMHO, the lack of 4-zone climate control matter. There are 4 vents for the rear; They'll suffice. I also don't mind the limited adjustability of the front passenger seat. It's the driver that truly needs extra adjustability. (I'm 5ft 10")The features I miss are massage and night-vision camera. But for the price & everything else it comes with as standard (especially nappa leather) , I can't complain. There's a Russian video on RUclips that shows the G80 parking itself (parallel & perpendicular). I think it's just not available for the US market; I wonder why though. The hardware is already there. And if the G80 can do it, I see no reason why the G90/EQ900 won't be able to do it. Great car!!! The Lexus LS stopped being the sensible choice in 2013. It crossed over to the dark side by abandoning the touchscreen-based infotainment system in favour of the infernal remote touch system. Though an all new LS is a few days away. What's the fate/future of the Kia K900?
@@mercedesbenzs600bash Have you looked at the KIA K900, 2019 or 2020, nothing sooner than that, used to ride to floaty for me but in 2019, changed for the better, amazing car.

I have a Lexus LS600h L and it is such a nice ride. Overall the reliability is still good over other luxury brands. However Lexus Corp (not dealers as that varies) has slipped quite a bit. Probably due to budget constraints of the economy. Hopefully with the stock market picking up they will go back to the high level of customer service they had in the past. When my son gets his license, I may give him my car and try out a G90 when they hopefully will have some autonomous driving features.
As a loyal Lexus LS buyer, this G90 soooooo "speaks to me". I desire a luxury sedan with the QUIETEST ENGINE and EXHAUST, and the SOFTEST ride (Mercedes S-class is now KING in this area, but I don't want a reliability and durability nightmare). I know I might be stepping down very slightly, in terms of reliability and durability, but a G90 5.0L Ultimate V8 has my name written all over it!!
When I saw the thumbnail looked like a Chrysler 300 to me just at a glance, and then looked closer and saw the Genesis emblem, looks like a good vehicle
Very good detailed review. I always watch Alex on Autos videos (Brian Cooley on Cnet is my favorite). But I did buy a Kia K900 V8 after watching Alex's video on it and going to the dealer for a test drive; and now I understand why it was his top pick for that year. Wow, what a car!

Great to the point review Alex. But why are the color selections so limited for this car? And you don't think the Lincoln Continental is a direct competitor?
Great review, I am actually in the market for either a 2016 Jaguar XJL Portfolio 3.0 AWD or 2017 Genesis G90 AWD V8. I love all the standard features you get with the Genesis, wish they had a massage function. I love the drive and the class of the Jaguar. The interior is great. I still have not taken the Genesis out for a test drive yet. I still have 6months to make my decision. I kind of know based on your review but which car would you choose between the two and why. Thanks again for your thorough review on the Genesis G90. It definitely helps my decision.
Great review Alex. Hyundai has done a great job with the G90 it looks like. The only thing is, when comparing it to the competition, I don't usually hear the Volvo S 90 mentioned. I usually see the S90 compared to the G80 if it's mentioned at all. I realize the S90 is closer to the G80 in terms of size, but nevertheless I think it's worthwhile to compare it to the G90 as well. As long as you're willing to give up some horsepower and torque, and some rear seat legroom, it seems to me the S90 would be the better value, even at the Inscription trim. And that S90 interior tho! But this does seem like a good effort on Hyundai's part.
Hi Alex, just though I'd let you know, your length comparison bar for the BMW 5 series is off. Both the old and new 5 series are significantly shorter than the Genesis G80. The 5 series belongs closer to the A6 and E Class in terms of length.
Between the BMW 5 and the G90, which one has a more quiet, comfortable, smooth ride? I know the G90 does not directly compete with the 5 series but the 7, but with my budget, it's between the G90 and the 5 series. Awesome review btw.
I can't wait for you to do a full review on the new ls 500 when it comes out end of the year, that car is going to be the new benchmark in the segment excluding Uber luxury cars like Rolls Royce. Can u imagine the new ls has a twin turbo v6 same as this 2017 g90 tested here and it produces more than 100 more pound foot of torque and about 50 more than the v8 version of G90. It also beats the 5 second 0-60 time of the v8 model G90. That LS 500 does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds even beating the s 550 4.8 sec time and that uses a v8 twin turbo. The bmw 7 series uses a twin turbo v8 as well and only beats the lexus with a 4.3 second 0-60 time. Lexus has achieved something great and amazing with the v6 twin turbo engine in the new Ls with first class world first tech as well.
Is it an optical illusion or does the belt line actually slope downward slightly running from front to back? If so that rather intrigues me since the vast majority of modern cars have a belt line that slopes up toward the rear. Very handsome Lexus fighter. That dark brown exterior color is lick worthy.
I think the decision for Genesis not to release an SUV was extremely puzzling. Large sedans are less than 1% of the world market. Maybe I'm biased and want to see and SUV with that interior (although if they could add massage function, that'd be great).
i think ive heard from other comments that "i wish lincoln (and cadillac) would follow genesis and make a true full size cruiser like they did in their glory days"(lol). so apparently continental is smaller.
@AlexOnAutos Genesis has kept up the hallmark tradition of value/ $. The issue for them is what preceeds it in the Equus: What "specialties" does the G90 bring to this hyper competitive field? The CT6 offers perhaps the best dynamics, MRC, 4 wheel steer, and standard AWD with V6 models. The LS has Lexus' vaunted reliability and historically loyal fanbase. BMW has buyers that still associate the brand with driving precision, but nonetheless the 7er offers loads of tech and power. The A8 is speedy, well finished, tech-laden, and has the luxury of having Quattro for AWD. Then there is the S-Class, which speaks for itself. The G90 has loads of standard features, but I'm certain that you know it takes far more than that to crack it in this class, or else the Equus and K900 would've moved more than 2-300 units/month, as is the G90 currently. I like the car and would even take the V6 over the V8 IF Genesis would've included the LED headlamps and power rear seats as optional on the V6. But even the small premium to pay for the V8 is a great selling tool. But it falls really short of the blown Germans considerably and is thirstier. I think the 404hp Caddy CT6 3.0T is just as speedy as a V8 G90. Not good. But to the buyer that doesn't care about ultra-tech, nameplate, prestige, or even buying your car in the same place a college kid is getting their Accent, it could be a good bet.
If you look at Equus sales + G90 sales (the G90 is production constrained) you would discover that the Equus/G90 sold 782+1361. This isn't a huge number, but for a car that was production constrained and a new entry it's not half bad either and 2015's full production year sales were not far off the Jaguar XJ. The real sales winner is the Genesis G80/Genesis 6,166+23,230 means it outsold the GS, A6 and CTS nearly 2:1, the Q70 by 3:1, XF by 6:1. We'll see what 2017 brings the G90 when production catches up to demand. I don't expect it to be a run-away success, but I would not be surprised with XJ/A8 like sales numbers.
Not everyone is looking for "dynamics" in a luxury vehicle. I am SICK AND TIRED of manufacturers shoving this aspect of the vehicle in everyone's face. Many of us want our *LUXURY* vehicle to be *luxurious* FIRST AND FOREMOST. That is what the G90 offers.*HYPER-QUIET ENGINE/EXHAUST*, magic carpet ride (in the comfort mode) and super-light teflon-like steering. (I'm talking of the 5.0L V8, of course - I would NEVER consider the V6, because choosing the V8 is simply a no-brainer)
agree with your analysis. It truly does offer an amazing value and luxury. However, there really isn't anything special about it. With a few more years in the works, I am sure genesis will definitely give the seasoned veterans a true fight to live for not merely a challenge.
The car length scale is really off for a lot of models, such as current 5 series (193.1 in) relative to current E class (193.8 in) to A6 (194.2 in). I recommend going through the models and recreating the scale to be more accurate, the current representation is inaccurate of the actual car lengths relative to each other.
Genesis does compete with Lexus, Acura, Infiniti but does NOT compete with the all aluminium Audi A8. They could get there but it's still a long journey. I do like the controls and not selling out to the cumbersome and problematic LCD screen controls. Interior design and selection of materials is excellent.
@AlexOnAutos I think the biggest issue Genesis has going for it is the fact that you have to go to a Hyundai dealer. I would rather go to a Toyota or VW dealer than Hyundai. The other is reliability. The 3.3T engine has been having major mechanical issues. A couple Hyundai Service Techs told me of the horror stories and say the engine lasts about 10k miles before major issues arise.
I am surprised to hear that. In Europe Hyundai has a good reputation on reliability and durability. However, we do not have the bigger engines here because of climate change taxes.
Ronald de Rooij I was shocked as well but the service tech even showed me one of the blown blocks. Generally Kia is more reliable than Hyundai as they are always a year later than Hyundai with implementing new drivetrain.
The V8 offers more power and torque for pretty much the same MPGs as the TT-V6, so, imo, the latter is unnecessary. By hey, gotta do what ever it takes for the environment I guess.
ithink theyre just trying to bring down the cost of new twin turbo V6 by spreading it to all their genesis cars. the G90 is so heavy that the fuel economy bonus is pretty much negligable with the V6. however with their smaller cars, the fuel economy difference would be greater.
I would say the reverse.. mostly what you get with the v8 is rear cabin /seat stuff.. reallynot worth it.. slightly lower gas mileage.. I dont need it.. but I drive myself.. and dont have a family of people who need rear seat adjustments..
I like the G90 because it gives its competition the middle finger.
And it also tramples the competition after flipping them off.
Aswell as stealing costumers while trampling them after flipping them off
This car is an incredible value for the money, especially the loaded V8 model.
Look like a great car. Superb review as usual. Good work.
I like that you talk about how a car rides and its cabin noise level in all of your reviews. Keep it up. Cheers!

But this does seem like a good effort on Hyundai's part.
I think that the ride quality is going to be dramatically different between those two. That's not an area that Volvo excels in.
Can u plz do a review of the 2.7 eco boost continental reserve
I can't believe you still didn't do a review for the Ford Taurus. 😁😁😁
Hi Alex, just though I'd let you know, your length comparison bar for the BMW 5 series is off. Both the old and new 5 series are significantly shorter than the Genesis G80. The 5 series belongs closer to the A6 and E Class in terms of length.
Genesis does! Can't do with a Lexus! Genesis does! Can't do this with an Acura! Genesis...does! Genesis...does! Genesis...does!
Between the BMW 5 and the G90, which one has a more quiet, comfortable, smooth ride? I know the G90 does not directly compete with the 5 series but the 7, but with my budget, it's between the G90 and the 5 series. Awesome review btw.
Ive test drove both.. g90 is quieter
Review the '17 lincoln continental
How much of difference in ride quality is there vs this one vs ones with air suspension?
If Genesis doesn’t provide any marketing of the Genesis brand, this brand will fail in 5 to 10 years.
Very informative
Amazing car
does all wheel drive give smoother ride than the rear wheel drive?
Is that a 1:1 scale at 2:30?
Great review, Alex! I assume there's no folding rear seat?
I think the decision for Genesis not to release an SUV was extremely puzzling. Large sedans are less than 1% of the world market. Maybe I'm biased and want to see and SUV with that interior (although if they could add massage function, that'd be great).
Brian Fish They will. It's in the works.
they're still building the brand.
I thought this might compare to the Continental or is the Lincoln more 5 series size?
i think ive heard from other comments that "i wish lincoln (and cadillac) would follow genesis and make a true full size cruiser like they did in their glory days"(lol). so apparently continental is smaller.
Those are also FWD drives aren't they? Genesis is RWD or AWD.
the Buick Lacrosse and Continental are smaller so is the CT6, but the CT6 is RWD not FWD.
Please review the new Impreza!
Great review - can you do a BMW 740i?
Can you review the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon? (G550 or G63)?? Thanks and love your videos
@AlexOnAutos
Genesis has kept up the hallmark tradition of value/ $.
HellKitty 101 the
agree with your analysis. It truly does offer an amazing value and luxury. However, there really isn't anything special about it. With a few more years in the works, I am sure genesis will definitely give the seasoned veterans a true fight to live for not merely a challenge.
Keep in mind though the above-mentioned brands except audi boast horrible reliability
thank you
Please review jaguar fpace soon
Will you be doing an Infotainment review?
The car length scale is really off for a lot of models, such as current 5 series (193.1 in) relative to current E class (193.8 in) to A6 (194.2 in). I recommend going through the models and recreating the scale to be more accurate, the current representation is inaccurate of the actual car lengths relative to each other.
Genesis does compete with Lexus, Acura, Infiniti but does NOT compete with the all aluminium Audi A8. They could get there but it's still a long journey. I do like the controls and not selling out to the cumbersome and problematic LCD screen controls. Interior design and selection of materials is excellent.
did anyone see the leaf at 6:38
Great Reviews Alex! I would love to watch a comparison between the G90 and the Continental Black Label.
The rear looks a Mercedes. Great review like always!
Please, please, G70 G70!!!
insightful
beautiful
Alex, is the updated Kia 900 version of this coming? I've always liked Kia styling more, and I prefer their logo to the fake Bentley. ;)
