Oh my word, I remember playing this! Or not this, but the sequel, Street Wars. What synapses have you fired up in my brain, they must have been dead for decades.
Bleak British Sim-City crossed with Theme Hospital sounds like a great idea in theory. Perhaps city-builders are the next genre Rogue-lites' should invade, that would make for some interesting scenarios..
I remember playing the follow up to this game a lot, Mob Rule. Just found out that's currently free on Steam, and it's a bit easier on the eye, but basically the same idea, but with a story. Good times.
If you know how to play Constructor, this video is deeply painful to watch. "No Quinns, don't make the garden so small! You won't be able to fit another house in that space!" "No Quinns, don't get those slobs paying rent, they should be breeding!" "No Quinns, the repairman didn't enter that burning house" "No Quinns, noooooooooooooooooooo"
A friend of mine used to have this game when I was a kid and I remember thinking the graphics were amazing and that if your bug problem gets bad enough you see human sized cockroaches walking around! Also would like some sim games to return to this kind of theme of everything being a bit dodge.
I played the "Street Wars" Version of that game and I still have the CD. I loved it! Don't get discouraged Quins. It's an amazing game, I'd rather have a tacky british game than a rollercoaster tycoon :)
I remember having this and being AMAZED at the epic graphics as a kid. I think there was this uncomfortable period between graphics being desperately shit turdy and thus able to get away with cartoon violence and the games that spent a bit of money on new fangled graphics and thought they could get away with the same thing but it just came out creepy
OK first, all your houses exploded because you had both your repair blokes working your starting plot and didn't transfer one to the other. Second, the reason you couldn't move anyone in is because you have to set your tenants to have kids to generate new tenants or you run out. Its been 20 years since I played this game but I remember that stuff.
Love you guys :) - 1997, I was 12 :| Time just keeps getting faster. Why? (I know why) Buried alive by the council? So like with dirt? Or with taxes like now? Also "Northern, sad, brutal towns" Produce the best people. I'm not even English either :P (Scottish, apologies for the SNP)
I didn't realize there were other people who, like me, dreaded the Game Over clip. That was awful, I think I would have played the game more often if not for it.
Listen here little misters...let me tell you...about the flaws of the ineffectual capitalist system #politics, #goddamnitItsTooEarlyInTheMorningForThisWhyCantITurnItOff X'D
What a deeply distressing game. I respect it.
Dear god! That work gang beat on that hippy for DAYS. In-game days but still.
Yes! I wasn't sure if anyone played this game but me, 'tis the best!
This and Theme Hospital ruined my education...good times.

This game is still pretty good, my childhood is unscathed. It certainly wasnt very intuitive though.
Were you purposely avoiding calling that bug a giant ant? Because it's clearly a giant ant. This is getting weird.

This game is oppressively British.
HD remake coming out this month: store.steampowered.com/app/579020/Constructor/
I add a like in addition, thank you
isn't this being ported to the Switch soon?
Hyogail I would screeam
It is. I think it's out now. In fact it's got a recent Steam port, and PS4 and Xbone ports.
It's not in the eShop (at least not in the US or Japan.) Would it only be in the EU shop like in the past?
Have you played A study in steampunk ? Fantastic game.

You're really not very good at this game
