I Tried Auditioning for a Broadway Show

  • What does it take to make it into a Broadway show? I have no idea. But I decided to find out. So I tried out for ‘Beautiful: The Carole King Musical’, one of the longest running Broadway musicals ever. Turns out, it takes a killer voice, a knack for memorizing lines and, most importantly, basic coordination. It wasn’t pretty.

      Rogue Battles incorrect. Not everyone has a natural vibrato. Some people have to work on it. And for those that don’t have it naturally, have to work to be able to control it.

    You think this is bad? Try being up every morning at 6, and standing in line with 200 girls who are younger and thinner than you...who have already been to the gym. Imagine waiting 5 hours in line, and watching the girls just coming and going in dresses that look just like yours til your number is finally called. Then once you walk in the room there's a table of men (always men, usually gay) who've been sitting like you have and listening all day to 200 girls belting as HIGH as they can

      @@howardwhitmore8709 I was commenting on how this video isn't even close to real life which is what I thought it would be FROM her synopsis AND the title. And I don't need a pep talk on how to "stay positive." I'm a full time Music teacher so I'm set career wise. But I did perform and audition a ton in college so this stuff is interesting to me to watch. But not when it's a pretend audition that doesn't show what these struggling artists actually go through. You're right - the title didn't promise anything, but from many of the other comments as well as mine, it shows many people were mislead as well... And that we would prefer to something real not set up. And to answer your other Q, no I don't watch her videos. This one just popped up in the recommended section one day. :)

      Amina Maybe it would have been boring, or maybe way more interesting to interview and get to know others who are auditioning while doing the nitty gritty. Isn’t that the job of a content creator? Even if she didn’t get a callback, I would have much preferred a realistic representation than a clearly staged video.

    This is crazy, in real life you have 30 seconds to sell your song, sometimes not even. And typically it isn't from the show and you don't get lessons with people who are auditioning you.

    This is more like a callback but still is fun to watch. I got called back for Beauty and The Beast and it was a private theatre company. I had to stage kiss every single guy who got called back for the beast. (I got called back for Belle.) And it was to see if I could feel with them. This is very similar to that, she had to go with a guy and do a character.

  • @Zzzk23
    @Zzzk23 5 лет назад +1

    This is more like what happens during a callback. During the first round of an audition if you're a non equity auditioning for an equity call, you have to get there HOURS before the audition begins for the chance of being seen. Let's say the audition is at 10, and the building opens at 7. You're there by 5:45 at the LATEST. You bring a cut of a song (typically 16 bars) not from the show that fits the type of music (era, genre, overall "feel," of the character, etc). You hope that there's time before the auditions are done (and before you have to leave for your classes, job, what ever personal business you have) for non-equity to be seen. Sometimes there's none. Usually they let you know by taking the "unofficial list" (if they've even chosen to honor it) off the table. Equities can come in later if they choose, and they still get seen before you (even though you've been there since 5 AM). You get in the room, smile, say hi, sing what you have (hope the pianist is nice), and then get out. The end.
