The fact that Keith wasn’t completely dependent on the sheet music and made eye contact with the casting table really made him stand apart. You can really tell he is a stage performer.

I will say that when I was training for a BFA for a while before I quit, we were taught not to make eye contact with the judges while performing. You're supposed to pick a spot on the wall over their heads

When Zach and Kwesi danced I thought the fast movement on the chest hits were supposed to look that way, flustered and running after the beat bit when Keith danced, every hit was on beat.

As Zach himself has said, he often leans into the silly man-child character in Try Guys videos and so that often means that he doesn't do very well at the activities he tries, but has lots of fun doing them. This was one of the first videos that I thought he was actually trying very hard and actually doing very well. I know Zach has many skills and is a lot more than that silly man child but it was refreshing to see him do something he's really good at.
I think he has a great sense of humour, it translated well into the acting.
This is actually a fairly good tutorial and guide for younger actors doing theater for the first time. LOTS of good audition tips by Alex and the Beetlejuice team. Love this content, going to recommend it to my high-school musical kids.
Performance-wise...It's really good Eugene didn't do this. He would have crushed it

Nahhh I think Keith had this. Eugene would've killed the dancing but Keith has the experience and the vibe
People keep commenting how Kwesi was just there to be there or reminded them of the kid who took the easy class to get the A. I feel the exact opposite, you can see how into every aspect of this audition he is. He absolutely gave it his best
I feel like it's the kid who took the class to get an art credit, but found that he actually enjoyed it, he hasn't spent his childhood singing along to songs like this, but he's having a blast!
I was thinking the same thing! He was so excited when he started to get the choreo
Kwesi was only the guy who obviously didn't have the background/practice in acting the other two did. All of his mistakes were stuff like, blending his words, skipping movements, losing timing, a lack of control that comes from inexperience rather than lack of effort. He was SO enthusiastic and giving it his best though. I feel like these people don't actually know the difference between technical skill and motivation, which is....... weird!
I’m really glad that Kwesi tried to do this in the first place. He really tried his best. I think if he had a little more time to learn the routine, lines, and lyrics he really could give the other guys a run for their money.

Also, unpopular thought (even with myself) but I am really interested what ’s tape looks like. Specifically the acting section, where they play Adam. Honestly, Voldemort, and his try guys character, gives very similar vibes to Adam Maitland: Titillated, dry white wine guy, adult recreational classes, dad jokes, home crafts, wholesome wife guy? Pretending to be those things would have really come naturally to him!
Ok, as someone who also has Ankylosing spondylitis, hearing them praise Zach’s dancing made my heart happy for him. Dancing isn’t easy with this disease, lol.
That’s such a great point. And they said that he was the best dancer of the 3. He was probably in a lot of pain doing just the rehearsals and learning the dance, but he still killed it. I can’t imagine how painful that must have been during and afterwards
They did a video for the Olympics channel last year where they did break dancing and Zach absolutely killed it! He was for sure the best dancer. He made us New Yorkers proud lol

Wow this editing work is seamless, huge massive props to the editors. Especially because this seems like it was a massive project just to get made and produced, the idea that it might've had to be scrapped must've been terrifying. The editors are literal heroes.

I rewatched it because it was seamless I couldn't tell. Theres some moments like the singing scenes where you can make out his voice, but if you weren't looking for it, you would never know! Such incredible work.

You should do Try Guys Try Songwriting and have each of them write and produce a song. Obviously Keith would have an advantage, so Eugene and Zach would each get one of the other Lewberger members to help them.
Edit: Also wanted to add that Kwesi's story about skipping the audition in high school really resonated with me because I did almost the same thing as a sophomore in college. I was going to audition for a choir, but I heard the girl before me sing and I was too scared to go in. I've thought about that moment in my life a lot since then and regretted it, so I'm glad Kwesi got to have this opportunity to revisit and move past a similar experience.

When they said to scare them, that reminds me of an audition my brothers friends was in and the role was crazy old man, so the judges asked him to go crazy. He took that literally so he literally charged at them and meant to stop right at the table they were at but he couldn’t stop so he accidentally flipped the table. (He got the part.)

There were a couple of scenes that I could tell Ned had to have been in there just because of how they shoot these. And yet no trace. It's honestly incredible.
The only reason I remembered Ned was in it at all is because he kinda came through in the group singing at the beginning.

Wasn't trying to find clues of nedits but saw some weird stuff happening at the very last seconds of the video. I'm guessing N was between Zack and Kwesi or possibly Kwesi was moved where N was.
I'd love to see how the editing was done and what the original material looked like. They obviously and understandably won't be releasing such stuff, but it fascinates me. I'm going to try to find someone explaining how this kind of editing can be done.

As a theatre kid, who sang in a choir for many years, part of this made me nostalgic. I loved being a kid and getting to sing and dance with others and perform on stage. I was usually just in the choir when we did musicals but I liked it nonetheless
alex brightman was giving me such jack black vibes and then i saw he had previously done school of rock, he really embodies him and it really shows how wonderfully great of an actor he is

I saw him in Beetlejuice before the pandemic and he was truly amazing. He also performed at the Tony's one year so there is probably a clip of that on-line somewhere. He had some funny "meta" lines about how he has to do that voice 8 shows a week or something. I would see anything he is in - so much non-stop energy.

@@Vanessa-pf6eu That could definitely be true. I have a better appreciation for the guys. Without being upstaged, they held their own and I got to see each of their strengths as professional entertainers. Also, Eugene might have already auditioned for Broadway before.

The fact that the only way I would ever know that Ned was in this video but he was edited out was because they told us he was is insane!!!??! If they had not told us that there was another try guy in the video but was edited out, I would never be able to tell!! The editors are truly magical and amazing!!!

Zach’s thing of pre-determining that he won’t get the part before he goes into the room can actually sometimes pay off. It’s not about being negative or pessimistic, it’s more about not psyching yourself out. Some of the best auditions I’ve ever done are when I’ve felt that I wasn’t right for it and just decided to have fun and go for it, and somehow I’ve ended up doing really well.🤣

I originally started looking for where Ned was edited out but then I just watched the video and forgot that Ned was even supposed to be in it. Absolute props to Devlin for making the editing so seamless and everyone else for making such a genuinely entertaining video

I dont get the "If Eugene was there he'd automatically get the part" comments. Zach, Kwesi, and Keith are all amazing as well! They really stepped out of their comfort zone with this and they all did great! Don't diminish their accomplishments. Eugene is amazing of course! But so are these guys! 💖
Agree. I feel like people take the joke of Eugene being great at everything a bit too far. It's perfectly fine, and even encouraging to Eugene, to complement his abilities, but some people make it a backhanded complement as if the other guys are just comedic relief and are bad at everything. Let's celebrate everyone without putting others down. :)

I don't think Eugene would've been the right fit for Adam anyways. Based on the role, Keith always was the one to beat.

Having the plot of Beetlejuice explained as if the musical is a wholly separate entity from the film (and not an adaptation) was extremely surreal. “There’s this ghost/demon and a couple that dies…” “Yeah, we know?!?”
I think we all knew at the title of the video, it would be Keith. Before even watching the video. He is the perfect person for this, hands down. Not just for this performance/roll, but any. He could/will do amazing on Broadway. I am so happy for him. I teared up at the end of his performance, seeing how happy he was. He deserves it.
They all three did so amazing, but I definitely feel like Keith got it. He screams theatre and I think the judges saw that. Zach did absolutely amazing, his dancing surprised me because of how good it was.
I'm shocked at how well Zach did, he really gave Keith a run for his money! I'd be surprised if this doesn't effect Zach interests going forward. He really did a wonderful job!
It really is a toss up at this point. They did so well. Kwesi too did really well, he just lacks a little experience.
It could be a bait and switch but based on what the judges were saying it sounded like Zach got it. Especially the comment of "Does this part require the person who is the strongest singer?"

I haven't watched Try Guys in a long time, but as someone who grew up in and still does theater, I felt the utter ANXIETY and excitement right along with them! Well done. Can't wait to see who gets cast

I really like the way they let the professionals do the talking and showcase their expertise while they really try to learn and understand the whole process. Their guests are always comfortable around them.

This brought back auditioning in middle/high school where all the kids who took dance could get through the choreography pretty well and then I was tripping over my own feet 😭 even though I was a good singer and knew to keep smiling even when I messed up I did NOT get into many musicals

I kind of expected Keith to do well and he was amazing! But Zach impressed me in this video I thought his performance was very solid! I can’t wait to know which of the three got the role ❤
It was so fun seeing the behind-the-scenes of Broadway and the dancing and everything. I have so much respect for all of you because it's always been something I wish I could do, but my social anxiety has never allowed me to do it, but you were all so brave. It almost felt like I was there, too, living through it with you, and you made it so fun :D Keith has such a fantastic voice. Zack did so well in dancing, and Kwesi put so much emotion into everything ❤️ I just loved all of your performances and the soul you all put into it ❤️
The way the three of them handled this situation was very admirable and professional. You can literally tell that they were so disappointed, infuriated and simply heartbroken. The fact they’re already slowly recovering from this scandal and starting to make new videos is really inspiring. We love you guys!

It wasn’t too long ago that I rewatched the video of the try wives skydiving. I remember her advocating (and leaving solid advice) for facing your fear. So it really touched me that Kewsi faced a past fear of his and she was the first to run and hug him. 🥺

I know they have played violins in that allure but I still think it would be amazing if they collaborated with twoset violin and maybe played in-front of an audience .
This is so so so interesting bc I’ve always wondered how things work behind the scene. All the judges were so wonderful and to see them in their field expertise makes me want to buy a ticket right away (flight to NY first then a Broadway)
But also Alex Brightman is the perfect example of a person that Second Try would support and upholds their values.
