Thank you for making book bindings level of entry accessible, i especially enjoyed your use of the Cricut gold to simulate gold filigree. I would be interested in seeing you convert an aging trade paper back into a hard bound, thus maybe saving it instead of having to throw it away.
Thank you for this awesome series of tutorials! I just finished my first rebinding of a paperback today and it looks great thanks to your help :) can’t wait to make more!!
This book is so beautiful! Your tutorials are just what I need right now, I've been a bit too intimidated to try recovering my books but now I'm excited!
You have done beautiful binding and explanation. I always wondered about the measurement of hinge and was never able to figure it out. Thank you for this detailed video series.
Loved it! I’m waiting desperately for the design Videos so I can continue with the FIVE Books I already took apart !! It’s was so easy to follow - thanks a lot !
Definitely saving this for if / when I get up the courage to try book binding for myself. In the meantime I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for the giveaway, so generous of you 😊
This makes me so excited to start my book binding journey 😍 Thanks for explaining everything so well and very excited for the video about the design process of the covers ❤️
I've seen other book binders say you shouldn't put the glue all the way to the edge of the block when casing in because it makes it harder to open the cover fully, but you don't seem to have that issue. Also how do you resist not opening the book and checking the end papers are smooth and flat once you glue them? I'd be tempted to take the bone folder to them and have seen others do that too!
I love how you explain everything. It's so much fun to watch and learn. Even though you just started making videos I can see you're going to be an awesome creator whom I will follow along to. And I'm sure you will get more and more subscribers. 😊❤ Edit: btw bcs of you I just bought a Cricut and golden iron on foil. I always thought "I want to get a title or a picture or something like this on my cover but hot foil stamping is not so variable" and then you came and told me about the cricut. I knew it before from sewing but never used it and didn't think I could use it in bookbinding too 🤦😂
Omg this is the kindest comment - thank you! I'm coming back after a short hiatus but can't wait to keep making video's for everyone. I'm glad you dived in the deep end with the Cricut - it's worth it
this turned out gorgeous! i always struggled with casing in but i'm starting to think my issues with casing in stem from the case itself. i'll have to try out the 1cm gap between boards next time because i love the way the book opens here
Thank you for showing the process in detail! I always have the problem that I cannot open the book fully, because the endpages would get pulled off the board to put it bluntly. How do you prevent that? It must have something to do with the hingegap and the exact position when casing in, but I don't know how to fix it. The only time there wasn't a problem was when I rounded the spine and had something resembling rudimentary shoulders on the book, but yeah ... the others failed miserably and either pull the endpages or the first part of the book block apart when opening :/
That book is GORGEOUS! I’ve been wanting to rebind the HP books for a few years, but (surprisingly) I haven’t been able to find any cheap at the charity shops yet. (Can’t take the family-shared ones, unfortunately) But my oh my your cover design is SO good. (I had to rewind a few times to make sure I heard you right, I think we have the same name lol 😅)
Hey, I also did a rebind, but mine wont open that good. I did Not glue the spine on so I really dont see were the problem might be. Do you know what could cause this?
I use a silhouette machine to cut the design out at home. It connects to your computer like a printer - some local libraries have community machines that you can use 🥰
I would do it straight after tearing the covers off! Clamp your book between 2 boards and then once it's dried, continue as normal (cover your boards in newspaper if you don't want them getting sprayed)
Hi. Not sure if I'll get a reply so long after the video was posted, but how would you go about binding multiple books into the one hardcover (comic trade paperbacks) From what I can see here, the book is only being held in place by the covers on each end, so if there were multiple books bound, then the middle books would float. Have I got that right?
Hi! You would tear all the covers off, put a small amount of glue along the spine-edge of each book and stick them together. This won't provide much structural support so you will then need to secure all the books together by applying the mull to the spine with lots of glue. This will keep all the books together and leave you with one large text-block and then you can continue the process as normal.
I was watching with my mouth open I HAD NO IDEA YOU CAN DO THOSE SHINY PIECES LIKE THAT!!
This series just gave me the confidence to really consider upgrading my own library with binding my paperbacks 🥰
Yessss! Once you start, you won’t be able to stop 😅
Thank you for explaining and showing this so wonderfully! I always struggle with making the case and casing it in!
Looks like I'm on a book binding mission this summer😂😂😂
same
The result is amazing. I think I'll also try it with some of my favorite books which will never leave my house again.
Thank you for showing most of the steps in real time! It makes all the difference!
I love how you are so detail-conscious. I have a very important book that I need to rebind and will use your tips to get it back together. Thank you.

Please do more videos, these are great.
I was off by 3 days for the giveaway! lol Your process is amazing and really helpful! I'm getting the supplies together to do a book for my wife!
Very nice book and very nice channel. I've just begun binding and you give me motivation!

I have found this Series of videos very interesting and informative
It is perfect, beautiful, thanks for these videos
Omg this is the tutorial I've been needing! ❤
This was so helpful! Can’t wait to case in my text block.
Good luck! It’s by far the scariest part of the process because you get one shot and then have to wait to see how it turns out!!
@@abound_bindery It went soooo well! All thanks to you and this tutorial! I posted it on my insta (same name as my RUclips).
wow! Love the job you did!!
Thats awesome i love it
This seems like it would be a great way to spruce up paperback journals
So nice❤, please, we need the design video for the covers 😊
This is actually making me want to try! Ah well, could always use another creative hobby! :)
Helpful!
Love this.
So beautiful ❤️
It's so pretty 💖💖
Hey, I also did a rebind, but mine wont open that good. I did Not glue the spine on so I really dont see were the problem might be. Do you know what could cause this?
You could try leaving an extra 1 - 2mm of end paper hanging over the spine when you attach it to your font & end pages
@@abound_bindery okay thank you♥️i will try that next time
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Did you use 1200gsm chipboard or the 650?
I use 1200gsm!
Do you print the front cover and the book spine at home or are there specific places where we can get that done? 💝
I use a silhouette machine to cut the design out at home. It connects to your computer like a printer - some local libraries have community machines that you can use 🥰
Is there a point in this process that you would recommend to do a sprayed edge? Rather than doing it after everything is complete?
I would do it straight after tearing the covers off! Clamp your book between 2 boards and then once it's dried, continue as normal (cover your boards in newspaper if you don't want them getting sprayed)

This will keep all the books together and leave you with one large text-block and then you can continue the process as normal.
Is this process for rebinding existing books? Can you use this process to bind a book you created?
Yes it can absolutely be used for both! This would be helpful once you have your sewn text block ready to have a cover applied.
would this work if we were writing orignal books
how did you install the bookmark??
💜💜💜
im a little late to the giveaway but can i still enter :)
