Bike touring Armenia's South to get through a rough time

- Only bicycle touring the harsh but stunningly beautiful South of Armenia could save our sanity after going through a proper rough patch. One would think that after cycling for thousands of kilometres through foreign countries for months on end we would have learned to expect the unexpected. Well, wrong...
Join us again, as we try to come back from a mental and physical low. To do so we set out again to cycle from Lake Sevan to Meghri in the far south of Armenia, in a struggle against fate, bad luck and failure, steep mountains and bad weather.

So I am not alone. Mathias gets grumpy and bad-tempered on tour for exactly the same reasons I do. Greetings from Italy. Forza ragazzi!
Of course. We can't show it more often because it is really hard to start filming when you're already struggling...
I love how you show these intimate and personal interactions with the people you meet. This is the very best way to explore our world. Paul
We couldn’t agree more!
The best❤😍
Thank you 😊
I am always interested in anything to do with meals prepared while on the road as I find creating varied and healthy meals (never mind interesting) can be challenging when cycling full time. As a chef Mathias I’m thinking you must have some great ideas that you could share 😊. Loved this latest video
One would think so, but it is not the case. First of all he trained as a chef because he likes eating. As we travel through new countries, he wants to try as much local food as possible. Since Turkey, we've basically traveled through countries with low cost of living, where food is easily available roadside most of the time. And lat but not least, we need so much time to create content that we rarely take the time to go shopping, cooking, and doing dishes. We did that only early on in Europe to save money, but at the time, we did not edit any videos.
Generally in the mornings we usually have oats with fruit and milk or yogurt. During the day we mostly eat what we find on the roadside. We used to cook some mix of carbs and veggies for dinner, or have a salad with bread and cheese. Something easy and quick, but always with fresh produce to counter the unhealthy streetfood.
Nice video 👍👍👍
Thank you 👍
Great going!! So impressive 🙌🙌🙌
Thank you!! 😁
Hello guys.
Another great video, once again you have expressed yourselves with such clarity, and intimacy. I feel a little guilty about not helping you out financially, but I'm on a tight budget. In about 48 hour's I fly to Singapore to start my bicycle tour across Asia. I hope that you are both healthy and feeling confident about continuing your adventure.
Regards, Neil.
Thanks, Neil! Please don't feel that way. We totally understand that it is not possible for everyone to help us with the financial side of doing this.
And yes, while it is not always easy to find the right words, and some people don't even like to know about the context and would rather just look at the beautiful landscapes, that wouldn't be us. Thanks for appreciating 🙂
Enjoy your awesome adventures. Depending on your speed, you might be able to catch us in Vietnam 🤫😉
Good morning guy's,
I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to catch up with you, unfortunately.
I'm old, and so is my bicycle. I ride a 3 speed folding bike with 20" wheels, it's Cresent, ( Swedish brand ), made in 1969 !
If by some miracle I do catch up with you, then dinner and beers are on me. 😁.
@neilwalton4474 haha, okay. Well, we plan to leave Vietnam by mid June towards China if everything goes well. Loads of editing to do 😅
Perhaps miracles do happen. I will hopefully be in Vietnam towards the end of April.
I love it that you’re so honest about your trip. It’s never only good, great and ultra positive. Sometimes things are simply not so great. But that never lasts forever. Because after rain always comes sunshine☀️! Thanks again for this episode amd see you over on the coffee site😂 because if you promise something… Stay healthy and stay safe!
Thanks for appreciating. We think bike touring is one of the most intimate ways of exploring a country. Pretending it was all great all the time wouldn't feel right. Suggesting anyone else would have the same experience would feel ridiculous, as we are all different people.
Superb video
Thank you so much 😀 We just released the last episode of Armenia! ruclips.net/video/LORdNPkZNg4/видео.html
A great video and a great series of Armenia :)
Wait for the last one 😃
Thank you so much for your videos, they are very rich and diverse.
It feels as though I am traveling with you!!
Such high quality, very impressive!
Loved it once again
Thanks Ashley 😊 For this bit of Armenia we could really take our time. Also, being able to communicate in the native language makes things possible that would otherwise be difficult.
love your travels .
Thanks! 😃
Great video :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes, it would be awesome to have an insider view of your production
🙏
Noted! We will do something about that in the future.
Really appreciate you taking the time to share and show what it is like getting going again, after setbacks. Those snowcapped mountain scenes as well! Amazing. I don't blame you for hitching a ride up and over the summit! Well made decision.
Yeah, we always struggle if we should include our personal background, as it is frustrating to just watch it. At the same time what happens in our life is why we do what we do, so we feel it is a crucial part of the journey and thus also the story about it.
Thanks again for sharing! So sorry to hear about your broken laptop. They fly to the moon, but when it comes to reliable equipment here on earth, they don’t seem to care as buying a new laptop means more profit to them. Things like that in „normal“ life are bad enough, but in your situation this is definitely worse.
Still, in the end you managed to produce another amazing film on your ride through Armenia. It looks a fascinating place… even in the winter. 🥶
Wishing you warmer conditions soon. 😊
Haha, yes. The best part was the cpu burned through 1 month after the warranty had run out... and of course it is not possible to change it! But, yeah... we managed to buy a second-hand laptop from Germany to work on 😅
Don't worry, there will be just one more episode with cold temperatures 😁
Having a 'what's in our bags' series helps you and us. You get to see what should be discarded. ..lol
That is a great idea. We just struggle doing any side videos as we are so much behind anyways, but we'll keep it in mind!
Excellent work again. I couldn't imagine going through there on a bicycle.
Why not? 😅
@@AmazingWorldBikeTour, no fast food, no bars, no warm showers, etc ;-)
@MrJx4000 🤣 well, but therefore so much solitude, freedom and peace 😉
I sure you would manage!
Really enjoyed this episode. I realize that bike touring is a niche market and maybe compared to other similar channels you are doing well but still this video should be reaching a much wider audience. Production quality is very high.
Thanks!
It could be a mix of things. Many other channels in our niche seem to make content that feels a bit more superficial, at least to us.
We really want to get our feelings through. This makes it a lot more difficult for us (writing the voice over takes ages), but also much more difficult to watch and digest.
We've seen some other content that does wildly better than we do. They don't seem to touch topics anyone might have any difficulties to empathize with.
However, we never wanted to be a Google maps street view on a bicycle, so 🤷
Love your videos. How much weight do each of you carry? Even an estimate would be good.
At that time, we assume it was just under 20 kgs per person, but we did not carry our laptops, and our summer clothes.
Before Yerevan closer to 25 kg each. Bicycles are close to 20 kg each.
If we would not do RUclips, we would be around 15 kgs lighter.
Thank you for the video. Russia and Azerbaijan and Iran (the list could go on) are all causing so much strife in the world... Bad news for the people affected especially, and also for your plans.
Yeah, it is unfortunate, and for what?!
Anyways, we mainly wanted to point that on a long journey very little will work out as imagined or planned and that can be fairly frustrating.
But at least cycling always feels great 😃
