So many trolls in the comments..... this is the 6th version of this camera just because you didn't know about it until the last one. Not sure why you are expecting it to have a medium sensor with 200 MP and a global shutter..... another words it's a decent upgrade. As far as being made in China so is the XT5 and before that the XT4 and before that the XT3. If I owned a V I probably wouldn't upgrade but it seems like a nice camera.
I think its mainly because of the price for a fixed lens point and shoot which has the same evf and lcd screen it did 4 years ago also worse battery life and no weather seal
I'm wondering if that old battery is going to be its Achilles Heel with the 40mp sensor and ibis and other new tech. I hope not. It's still one of my all time favourite cameras. The 100s rejuvenated my love of photography.
considering the new processor and sensor combo increased battery life on the x-t5 while using the same battery, I would be quite hopeful in this case for a small bump in battery life
There is no perfect camera. Maybe the VII will be able to squeeze the 235 battery into a slightly larger body. Each X100 iteration improves the camera. Leica Q3 look out. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
So my X100V is the last X100 model that was produced in Japan? I know Fender guitars & basses produced is Japan have a much higher value as they get older than the ones that are produced in China ;-)
I definitely had 300 people walk out my last gig when they noticed my Squier was made in China... /s All jokes aside, since a couple of years ago the Chinese-made Squiers have been unbelievably good. Many people drink too much marketing koolaid and smell too much brand identity snake oil, this is where the fear of Basswood comes from; bad cuts of cheap wood forever ruined the reputation of a very good lightweight wood option, because people think it'll fall apart - not the fault of the species of wood, but the bad guitars it came in. Same with Chinese guitars, people are more likely to write them off based on their previous history up till the 2010s, despite theyl fact they're actually very good now.
If the quality is OK why do you think it matters where the camera got manufactured? Seiko watches are made in Japan but QC issues are ubiquitous. Chinese can produce anything you tell them to produce, from cheap garbage to quality stuff
@@-greyChinese manufacturing has been synonymous with dangerous work conditions and low wages for decades. Fujifilm is undoubtedly saving money by moving production there, yet putting a higher price point on the camera. Not sure why the comment section is rushing to the rescue of the CCP.
The wait was worth it. This is the perfect travel camera and or second body for professional work. I got tired of 2 big cameras at weddings. 1 big and 1 small just makes way more sense to me. 40mp, 6k and finally ibis in this small body are the real game changers. The af improvements too
I wish Fujifilm's 40MP models could down-res to 26MP (rather than 19.9 MP in their medium setting). Though 40MP can be useful in certain scenarios, it can be overkill with casual shooting.
The X100V let you save 7 custom color recipes. Any chance the VI allows you to save more? I can't imagine it would take up much memory, and I'd love to see a camera that lets me save 25 or 30 custom color and b&w recipes.

You are the first to say that the camera stores gyro data. Where did you get this information? I couldn't find anything about it. If this is really the case, you could finally use Gyroflow for Fuji and the X100Vi would be the perfect video travel camera for me.
The best thing about this release is that some 100Vs will come available at maybe a less than insane price. I hope fuji are able to make enough of these!

As much as I like the X100 series, the pricing is getting a bit over the top. I don't think Fuji should be pricing gear in full frame territory but at least the X100 is a somewhat unique experience in the digital landscape. I can't justify one of these when I have a Canon R5 so I guess it's back to looking for cheap used X100/X100S/T and Ricoh GR!
So, if it's made in China, why is it $1,600, $300 more expensive than the previous version!?Would it have been twice the price of the previous one if it was still made in Japan?
I found that on my Xpro3 that I could add the quick edit to the simulations to my menu settings which allowed me to have I think 5 preset simulations, then I programmed that to a customer button and could cycle through. Not sure if you can do that on this one, but it worked for me
Listening to some of these gripes, it makes me really appreciate Nikon's menus. They arent perfect, but they definitely seem to put more thought into the user experience. Hopefully the success of this camera will result in them making regular updates to the firmware and expand the functionality there.
It’s silly that we still have the same old lens design (I get it was revamped with the V but still the same general design 13 years later) and still requires an adapter and filter to weather seal. Maybe in the VII. Lol. Also, same evf. It’s not good enough when compared to competitors.
x100v has an heat issue at the rear side(area next to the menu/ok button where right thumb gets) which is very irritating for me and I've returned it. Is there any improvement on heat dissipation on that area for x100vi? Though I suspect it might be the same(or worse because of the higher resolution sensor)
I wonder how it feels in practice. I had the X100F, but somehow it felt slow and clunky so I never took a liking to it. Replaced it with a Ricoh GRIII.
I hoe that these are so common that scalping won’t even be possible. I gave up on the X100v a long time ago, I’m glad they’re finally making a new one. I hope it’s not too expensive 🤞🏾
40MP is bit lost on me. Obviously nice to have but not necessary. The IBIS is great though. I don't get the hate on it. Many of us, including myself, take the X100 on day trips or short trips especially when one has to pack light. I love taking phots at night and low light performance has been a sour spot for me with X100. I can bring another camera of mine that has IBIS / better ISO performance but that defeats the purpose of traveling with a just one small camera. IBIS fixes that issue for me completely. In fact, I have been waiting for X100 to have IBIS for a long time. As for the price, let's be honest, everything has become more expensive in the last four years since the pandemic. I'd love Fuji to stick with the $1,399 price but given everything else that has been going on, $200 price hike is not the worst deal ever.
40MP is very useful for me on a fixed lens, in fact it means that I might not need an ILC at all for general shooting conditions. You are spot-on about the IBIS, that f2 becomes more usable in low-light. Have a read of "The Power of Cropping With the 40 Megapixel X-T5" (use the speech marks)
Still requiring an adapter and filter to achieve weather sealing is such a miss. Half-assing the card slot and not improving the viewfinder are almost as annoying. So stupid to not be able to apply your own film recipes in camera, too. There's no reason they can't do this. Also hate to see production shifted to China. It seems like Fuji did the bare minimum just to get production going again. Sad.
From what I've read ... 23 = 35mm equivalent 40 MP, croping to 50mm equivalent goes down to 25 MP, then croping to 70mm equivalent goes way down to 10 MP ... may as well get a smart phone? Am I getting this right? I will not get one if this is the case. Am I seeing this wrong?

So many trolls in the comments..... this is the 6th version of this camera just because you didn't know about it until the last one. Not sure why you are expecting it to have a medium sensor with 200 MP and a global shutter..... another words it's a decent upgrade. As far as being made in China so is the XT5 and before that the XT4 and before that the XT3. If I owned a V I probably wouldn't upgrade but it seems like a nice camera.
I think its mainly because of the price for a fixed lens point and shoot which has the same evf and lcd screen it did 4 years ago also worse battery life and no weather seal
Made in China, that’s disappointing, I’m out.
@@frankquezada5490 hope that speeds up my preorder then
Love the fact that you aren't letting you hatred of 35mm die. Very nice sight dig at it without getting bogged down.
this is what we are expecting from petapixel
I'm wondering if there's a single X100VI left to sell seeing that so many have been tossed around by Fuji to get reviewed. They're everywhere!
My Xf10 still rocks !!! A sub 700€ Apsc Fuji camera is really missed nowadays, the Xf10 was 400€ !!!!
Mine too. If I remember to charge it and take it with me.
At least with the X100F I always carried three batteries with me for a day of shooting. Not sure why, but it used a lot of power.
You forgot to mention one of the most useful features: the digital lens converter. With 40MP this should be really good
Isn't this just a simple crop
So my X100V is the last X100 model that was produced in Japan? I know Fender guitars & basses produced is Japan have a much higher value as they get older than the ones that are produced in China ;-)
I definitely had 300 people walk out my last gig when they noticed my Squier was made in China... /s
All jokes aside, since a couple of years ago the Chinese-made Squiers have been unbelievably good.
I still consider X100F to be the best version of this camera, because of the D-Pad. Plus, it was made in Japan.
I thought the X100V is made in Japan as well
Good reasons to buy a camera:
☑️ Nice buttons
❎ Race of factory workers
@@-grey Who talks about race?
The af improvements too
I still think people will be after the x100V has it will be the last ones made in Japan.
I dont think the bulk of buyers will care.
who cares were it's made i want vi, Japan couldn't handle the production
Wait, are you saying the VI is not gonna be made in Japan? If it’s made in China I’m out, I’ll wait for the XPro4.
@@frankquezada5490 xpro4 is also will be made un China 🇨🇳
Can anyone tell me what the rangefinder is that’s shown at 7:13?
I wish Fujifilm's 40MP models could down-res to 26MP (rather than 19.9 MP in their medium setting). Though 40MP can be useful in certain scenarios, it can be overkill with casual shooting.
19 is plenty
I shoot 20MP JPEGs to the second card slot on my X-T5 and it's perfect. Higher resolutions are just there to annoy the desk manager at my newspaper
It will down-res only in jpeg. Your raws will still be 40MP.
The X100V let you save 7 custom color recipes. Any chance the VI allows you to save more? I can't imagine it would take up much memory, and I'd love to see a camera that lets me save 25 or 30 custom color and b&w recipes.
Just want an xpro4. Supposedly Fuji has 0 plans for another x pro which is disappointing. Might be abandoning Fuji if that’s the case, I want to upgrade from my xpro2 which is almost ten years old already, the xpro3 had tons of issues with quality control and they discontinued it pretty shortly after release so even buying those used is significantly higher than msrp.
Why XPro and not X-T?
@@nickthaskatertoo many reasons to list
@@nickthaskater hybrid viewfinder, sleeker body (no hump, smaller grip) etc. also the x-pro 3, especially the dura versions, have titanium top and bottom plates
@@CianMcsweeney don’t forget one handed operation. All buttons and dials on right side. Generally much better ergonomics. Better build quality overall (xpro2 not xpro3).
@@Chazyfizzlez I've actually had a good experience with build quality on my x-pro3, I am aware of the issues people have had with the rear screen
Love the smirk after the "pity about the focal length though." I was waiting for that dig. Sucks about the price increase of the VI. Let's hope it's not crippled by the same supply issues as the V.
One hopes that the switch to China was done to churn out lots of them cheaply and quickly.
First review to watch after the Fuji launch
You are the first to say that the camera stores gyro data. Where did you get this information? I couldn't find anything about it. If this is really the case, you could finally use Gyroflow for Fuji and the X100Vi would be the perfect video travel camera for me.
The best thing about this release is that some 100Vs will come available at maybe a less than insane price. I hope fuji are able to make enough of these!
They moved production to cheap a$$ China. There will be plenty. China churns out junk like no other
They are made in China so probably upscaled production compared to the V
A pity about the focal length?
I like the 35mm field of view. 28mm is too wide for me. The 28mm FOV forces me to get too close to my subject. This is why I can’t buy the GRiii or any Q.
Mask On nurse Marty(Ret)
Looks like in 6.2k it crops down to 28ish mm? Love that focal length on S35. Would be great to have that as a little carry around camera for video if it wasn’t so fraggin expensive.
That would be perfect for me. 35mm is too narrow
@@superstringsbro 28ish on APS-C, so about the FOV equivalent of a 42mm lens on FF. It doesn't magically crop out to a wider field of view, you'll still need the converter for that.
@@el_fucko for me it’s still too narrow to use as a video camera. Even with the wide converter, after crop, you’re still getting around a 35mm FF equivalent.
That lose dial... is that normal?
7:24 ah, that wild G9ii with the 10-25. My dream combo for mingling during events!
4K 30 with no crop sounds solid enough to me
What about the built in ND is that still there?
4:14 Yep. Should’ve upgraded to UHS-II.
Super happy to see ibis in it, might mean a xt40 will also have it
Using the 2,5mm input with an adapter to record sound results in digital noise! Is this fixed?
Completely agree with having the preferred film simulations more accessible in some way 👌🏼
So, if it's made in China, why is it $1,600, $300 more expensive than the previous version!?Would it have been twice the price of the previous one if it was still made in Japan?
I wish Jordan would shoot more with the X-H2S. That camera looks gorgeous! ❤
I'm wondering what lens he used?
I found that on my Xpro3 that I could add the quick edit to the simulations to my menu settings which allowed me to have I think 5 preset simulations, then I programmed that to a customer button and could cycle through. Not sure if you can do that on this one, but it worked for me
Listening to some of these gripes, it makes me really appreciate Nikon's menus. They arent perfect, but they definitely seem to put more thought into the user experience. Hopefully the success of this camera will result in them making regular updates to the firmware and expand the functionality there.
Given its the same lens as the V, can the lens take advantage of the 40mp sensor? Is it sharp enough?
Fast as lighting ✨️
Thanks for the review. More megapixels and IBIS is great but only supporting UHS-I cards is very puzzling.
4 Years and this is the best they can do? I'll keep my more than capable X100V, thanks!
What else would you have them add while keeping the same size?
And what improvements should be added there, in your opinion?
@@jpt4409its a big size camera
It’s silly that we still have the same old lens design (I get it was revamped with the V but still the same general design 13 years later) and still requires an adapter and filter to weather seal. Maybe in the VII. Lol. Also, same evf. It’s not good enough when compared to competitors.
I can't believe they only added a new sensor, new processor and IBIS while keeping the body nearly exactly the same size, what a miss!
x100v has an heat issue at the rear side(area next to the menu/ok button where right thumb gets) which is very irritating for me and I've returned it.
Is there any improvement on heat dissipation on that area for x100vi? Though I suspect it might be the same(or worse because of the higher resolution sensor)
Get a Nikon.
Hopefully the camera would be available to the market
...cough cough fuji x100 v
Its made on china now mass production
There was no stock issues on release of the v, now it's made in china don't expect any stock issues at all
i hope they keep the same quality as the japanese factories@@Happyantix112
How good is the lens for portraits? Does it distort the face?
I think I'll buy 3 of these and skip the Leica q3
I'll take a made in Germany Leica Q3 over 10 made in China X100VI
Im, so glad to have found Chris and Jordan again!!
6'50" - that was a laugh-out-loud moment for me. :D
Same :D
9:11 wish it were made in Japan. Very informative good video.
I still love my Olympus PenF. For a fraction of the price.
Fraction is pushing it a bit lol. It should be a fraction considering it's age but the PenF is the original X100V hype camera
Hi Chris, what’s the optimum memory card specs for taking only photos, not video, please?
Chris, we need to know what jacket you're wearing 😎
Correction, you need to know. Why would anyone ask for such a random thing xD
@@Samiam-mu5lnit’s a bit of humour referring to past shows and sponsors.
( keep up, there might be be a test later)
Are you saying that it has gyro date in the video file metadata for post stabilization?
They had to change the naming convention, because "five", "six" and "seven" start with letters that already had been used.
...how did i not notice
Genius
I wonder how it feels in practice. I had the X100F, but somehow it felt slow and clunky so I never took a liking to it. Replaced it with a Ricoh GRIII.

Meh. Seems like just another premium point and shoot to me
Then you've never used one.
@@JohnMottershawPhotography2 Not the VI but I've used many premium p&s and most of the x100 series
I hoe that these are so common that scalping won’t even be possible. I gave up on the X100v a long time ago, I’m glad they’re finally making a new one. I hope it’s not too expensive 🤞🏾
You just had to sneak in the 35mm jab…
Sad.
Well they know that the idiots this camera is marketed towards will still buy it, so it makes sense.
@@RitzOriginal1 sad but true.
If you don't see a difference between this and a smartphone, then yes you might as well get a smartphone.
my heart dropped when I heard the words "it's now made in china" 😭
Doing so might help keep up with demand.
How is the auto focus settings?
So only the new sensor and ibis, and not much else? Somewhat underwhelming upgrade from X100V if I have to say.
Does it tend to get warm while taking pics like x100v?
$1500 for a crop sensor fixed lens 35mm f2 camera, 2.5mm jack, single card slot, made in china? Hmm. Nikon ZF anyone?
No thanks
@@unstanichard pass on both honestly.

This was mostly all shot on ‘Eterna’ with the exception of very high contrast scenes where F-Log2 was used.
