finally a video that doesn't talk the MFT Death , but also just puts the positive sides of this beautiful, good and portable camera system in a positive way in the spotlight. that should happen more often as far as I'm concerned.
Thank you for adding the audio. In spite of my best attempts, I could not get past the silent episode just being Chris whispering sweet nothings to all of us.
I’m using Hasselblad and Leica for my professional fashion/beauty stuff, but for my personal work, since a few months I’m using an OM1 with a few Pro lenses. It’s fantastic for travel, hiking and whatever other walk-around you’d want. Of course, I still love my M cameras, but they’re not always the practical choice. So, after tried almost all other options, I ended-up with an OM1. First out of nostalgia. My first camera was also an OM1, back in 1974. But after trying, I’m convinced. These are brilliant systems. Don’t let the small sensor fool you. You still can get images that almost all others mistake for full-frame. But the fact that you can carry a small backpack that contains a brilliant pro-camera with a range of 14mm to 1200mm pro lenses (FF equiv.) is staggering. I thoroughly enjoy M43 and wishing I did this years ago. No, it won’t replace my M11, SL3 and X2D, but for personal work this is way beyond ‘good enough’.
I started on m43s before being drawn into the sensor size rabbit hole. But after trying almost all the FF brands I came back to m43s and couldn't be happier. I love how flexible and discreet the system is.
If you guys are actually finding an OM 150-600 for $250 I would love to see a link, LOL. But seriously, always good to see more MFT representation. There are dozens of us MFT shooters! DOZENS!
Thank you for the suggestions, all great quality lenses. The Olympus 40-150 f4 pro should be mentioned, ultra compact, great quality, 80-300mm ff equivalent.
Oh well, a typo can happen and there’s nothing wrong with it, it just shows how professional you have to be all the time, and how quickly people will point out when you make a tiny mistake 🎉 ❤❤
Thank you for giving a fair and honest presentation about micro 4/3. Finally a channel of notoriety sharing the positive attributes of this great form factor! Thanks again!
Absolutely. I was fortunate enough to go to the original Oly Pen launch event with an appearance by David Bailey. This was the first lens I bought after the 14-42 kit zoom and I love the 40mm equivalent focal length. Took me a while before I realised it was an identical frame to the Oly Trip 35 I learned on in the nineties. And I’ve recently bought an original Rollei 35 with a lovely 40mm Tessar. A relatively rare standard lens focal length but pretty versatile.
I have always preferred the standard 50/35/24 equivs, and so never use my 20 (40mm equiv) but totally understand why some people prefer the 40/30 equivs that include the Panasonic 20mm and 15mm lenses. We are all different, and have different needs. Personally I adore the Olympus 17mm f1.8. Not quite as small, but slightly wider and has that wonderful manual focus clutch, whereas I dislike manual focus on the 20/1.7 and the tighter view
I just have to mention the glorious Sigma 56 f/1.4. It's a little bit long for a portrait lens, but it gives you beautiful bokeh, and it's razor-sharp. It relegated my trusty Olympus 45 f/1.8 to the stay-behind brigade on the shelf. Also, the PanaLeica 15 f/1.7 is by far my favorite prime on MFT. It's leightweight, razor-sharp and has great contrast and colors. And it pairs up nicely with the Sigma 56 f/1.4 for a very lightweight walkaround combo.
YES! Those you mentioned, IMO, represent the best of micro four thirds. Simple, sharp, small and light. They are made for small cameras. The Lumix 30mm macro or 45mm Olympus both do portraits well. Any sharper might need to be dialed back, the model might say! ;)
When they said at the start that Sigma stopped with m43, i immediately thought about this. It's a nice trio of lenses, and the 56mm has sort of replaced my oly 45mm in the bag.
Totally agree in respect to the Sigma's. I have the trio of Sigma lenses, which are great, but the one that immediately stands out when you put your eye to the viewfinder is the newest one and that is the 56mm. Unitentionally I use mine a lot for spherical panoramics in conjunction with a proper dedicated tripod head, PTGui software and mostly high resolution mode (80Mp) on the Panasonic Lumix G9M1. The results are just crazy good.
The Olympus 12-40mm 1:2.8 is what brought me to the system and it is my all time favourite lens. Super sharp, compact, looks and feels amazing, has a great close focussing distance and does everything I need on a daily basis. From product photography, over landscape, to some casual portraits it does everything as well as any standard zoom lens I have ever used.
Thank you for the 20mm f1.4 shout out. It is definitely an underrated lens. Almost optically perfect. The sharpness and contrast is fantastic. The price has dropped down enough that it is worth it for most people now, even more so used.
Thank you Chris and Jordan, some much overdue love for MFT and yes, you’re right about how much of a difference the lens can make. And then for video there’s also the Speedbooster options.
As someone who invested a bit into the "standard" Four Thirds back in the day, it was disappointing when Olympus abandoned it. But, I can see how m43 is basically what their intent was all along. As much as I like my chunky 5D Mark 4 since I can swap lenses back and forth with a Canon film camera as well, I've never stopped eyeing the four thirds stuff as a small, compact, and light weight carry around solution for daily shooting.
A refreshing video, highlighting just how good M4/3rds is. Thanks for taking the time for this, rather than many others who spend their time crapping on M4/3
I just came in from shooting with the Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8. What a fantastically useful and fun lens! And its hood design is surprisingly important. I also couldn’t live without the 75mm f/1.8 for events and portraiture. The Laowa 6mm f/2 rounds out my top three favorites, though I probably use it less than the Olympus 12mm f/2.
Adding a few of my faves, as well as some I'd like to pick up for the (hopefully) inevitable GX10. Pancakes! I quite like both the 20mm 1.7 and the 14mm 2.5. Super small and fun. Apparently the AFC now works on the 20mm on new bodies, so that's exciting. I surprisingly quite like the 12-32, though the lack of a manual focus ring does drive me crazy sometimes. I quite like the Olympus 45mm 1.8 - you may be noticing a pattern. I would like to pick up the Leica 9mm 1.7, the tiny collapsible 35-100 from Panasonic, the 15mm 1.7 from Leica and both bodycaps from Olympus, ideally in one of the colours. I can't stomach the price of the 10-25, but it does look quite nice! Thanks for the video. Always happy to see M43 content in the spotlight.
It's really gonna be the lumix counterparts of these same exact lenses (100-300, 25mm, etc), other than maybe the Oly 40 150 R. That lens is STELLAR for 50 bucks
MFT is great for photo and even better for video! I'm using Oly Em1 MK2 and Panasonic GH5s on gimbal, what a combo! I'm waiting for GH7 to drop in price to grab one! And the lenses for this system are just outstanding! Long live MFT!
1:53 You don't hear that enough. You buy the gear to make art. People should stop bickering over it, being obsessed about specs and arguing about specs, but at the end of the day, if you're not making art, what's the point? And this I think is what trips up people with m4/3, regarding people thinking you can't use that 'tiny' sensor to make good photos. Check the basic specs to be sure what you buy will support what you truly need to make your art, then go shoot and be happy (and stop arguing and making fun of each other's camera systems). I left DPReview due to all the nonsense whining and sarcastic/childish comments from people there. It feels good to be 'free' of the forums ;-)
I've been a M43 shooter since 2011 and have never looked back. From my PEN-F to EM1X, they both fill my needs for any type of photography. Who needs Full Frame? ;)
answering your questions, there may be some scenarios where that extra light and depth of field are needed, like sport and weddings. I tell you I am using APS-C, just to make sure you don't mistake me for some full frame fanboy. I don't do any of the two things, so I am happy. I believe we should look at cameras for their overall feature set and not discard some just because their sensor isn't full frame. having good grip, good menus and buttons and dials, and autofocus does make a difference and all these aspects combined can overcome the sensor size disadvantage. that's why for example I think panasonic cameras are the best for video, their feature set is what wins and I don't care if it's micro 4/3.
Great video guys. I have been struggling with the decision to keep two systems or sell off my Sony and commit to m 4/3 again. I have been doing some test shooting lately to try and see what one I prefer. When it comes to IQ in decent light ( how I do most of my shooting) crazy as it sounds. I have been liking my images out of my OM-1 compared to my Sony A7IV. One thing people love about FF is something I feel hurts in some ways. The crazy DOF. I don't always want it. In fact I prefer not having how shallow the depth of field is. It takes some getting used too. Having shot with Olympus for 17 years I ruined or missed some shots due to this. I often shoot in lower light when my subjects are not moving. I cannot hand hold the Sony at slower shutter speeds like I can my OM-1. I can hand hold a 2 second shot out of my OM-1 consistently. My Sony I need to boost my ISO and shoot around 1/30th. Big difference? No, but still. Keeping my ISO at 200 compared to 800-1000 at times? I recently started following a photographer who lives in Poland. His portrait work with an OM-1 and an old 14-35 4/3 lens , the 12-40 2.8 and the 25 1.2 is absolutely fantastic. This being what so many say m 4/3's can't do. I am getting back into the mindset of what is it exactly my OM-1 cannot do that my Sony can? In addition there are so many lenses I miss from m 4/3's I cannot get as cheap and small in FF. What to do what to do? lol Merry Christmas guys.
I think you guys made some great picks. I use a lot of these lenses too. My picks are: PL 10-25 f/1.7 Oly 40-150 f/2.8 Lumix 20 f/1.7 II PL 12-60 f/2.8-4 Sigma 30 and 56 f/1.4 Lumix 12-32 f/3.5-5.6 Lumix 35-100 f/4-5.6 (the mini one) Honorable mention is the Lumix 45-200 II cause it's cheap, light weight, and optically decent for use on smaller bodies.
My om 100 - 400 is practically glued to my OM 1! Finally ditched my old 7D in summer and couldn't be happier for casual birding and the occasional deer :)
Excellent summary of the key lenses in the MFT system. I am mainly an MFT user as I do also use several FF cameas from Leica, Sony and Panasonic. I keep coming back to my MFT systems when travelling as the overall combination of the smaller, lighter lenses and camera body means the FF gear is left at home. For my photography the sensor size or MP count is not an issue. My favourite lenses are the pana Leica 8-18 & 12-60 and 15mm f1.7, along with the OMS 20mm 1.4, OMS 40-150 f4 and Olympus 12-100 f4.
I stumbled upon this lens. It came packaged with the GX9. The plan was to sell the lens to lower the cost basis of the body. After all, I own the PL version of this lens. Turns out I love this lens. It is small and lightweight. I live between f5.6-8. The focal length range is great. Other than the Fuji 18-55, this is my favorite zoom lens. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I love the little lumix 42.5 f1.7 lens. Short focal distance and a wide enough aperture make it a fun to carry lens for a lot of interesting shots. I keep it on a GM5, and that's quite a lot of power that fits in a jacket pocket.
Good call on the Pana-Leica 42.5; it's a lens that almost justifies having an M4/3 camera alone. And I know that because I've moved on to full frame and still find myself thinking, "I really wish I had that old 42.5..."
MFT is best when the lenses are small and play into the advantages of the format. Otherwise I prefer a larger sensor. Since I am not interested in zooms I have chosen three lenses you didn't even mention. Olympus M.Zuiko 45/1.8 is all I need in a portrait lens for no money. Absolutely my favourite lens in the format. For years I used the cheap as chips Panasonic Leica 14/2.5 as my standard wide, since 28mm equivalent is a favourite field of view. If you are willing to pay twice as much, the Panasonic Leica Summilux 15/1.7 ASPH has much better corners. I like using an aperture ring though wish the build quality was better than the plastic feel.
I kept the 25mm 1.4 for so many years, it was my most used lens for sure for most situations. I also did a couple of paid contracts with the nocticron 42.5.
I own a Lumix S1 as well as Lumix G9, and while the S1 (like any full frame camera) really makes you gawk when pixel-peeping, I find myself grabbing my G9 FAR more often when going out just because the small MFT lenses easier to carry around, while still delivering serious image quality that I have little complaint over. In the space of one Lumix S (full frame) prime, I can carry two, potentially even three Lumix G (MFT) primes. Big shoutout to the Pana-Leica 12-60 2.8-4 as well as being what lives on my G9 probably 80% of the time, it's a great all-rounder that you can nab on the used market for as little as $375-$425 range these days.
Excellent video! I keep telling people that the range of glass for M4/3 is nothing short of incredible! I love full-frame as well but hands down my all time favorite lens to shoot with are on M4/3 system.
My most favourite camera-lens combo of all time is the Lumix GM1 with either the Lumix G 12-32mm or the Lumix G 20mm F1.7. Small body, small lens and a very low profile look. The thing is about the size of a pop tart so no need to bring a camera bag, just slip it into my pocket. Great street photography tool.
Panaleica 9mm f1.7 is such a gem of a wide angle lens. Small, light, affordable, fast aperture, fast autofocus. I don’t know what Jordan sees in that cumbersome, slow, expensive 8-25 (other than the versatile range - but that’s what feet are for)
The portrait of Jordan at 7:30 and the slow-mo shot of Chris fishing at 9:51 are just top tier! That being said, please consider not using that "vintage style" background to showcase the pictures. The black lines look like hair strands on the screen and are distracting, in my opinion 😅
You forgot this wonderful small prime lens, fun street or general purpose - Panny Leica 15mm. Pricey, but there's a Panasonic made clone that is 95% the same - the DJI 15mm f/1.7, available online for ~$200 from AliExpress, eBay and similar sources. Optically it is the same. It even gets detected as a PL 15mm by the camera. The only difference that matters is that CAF may not work for PDAF M43 cameras, only for older cameras. Someone said it does work if lens firmware is 1.1. To some, the DJI label instead of something Leica may also matter. 😉 For those purists who complain it's too wide, not the traditional 35mm EFL for Street, consider the 4:3 aspect ratio. When cropped to 3:2 or 135 film ratio, it is essentially the same as 35mm EFL.
I gave up on L-mount due to lens size; now back to m43 after several years gap. Tiny G100D as EDC/travel and GH7 for the more serious stuff. Appreciating the 9/1.7,15/1.7,20/1.7,25/1.4 small fast primes.
Oh, my, how could you leave out the OM 90mm macro? I do a LOT of macro work, and have used a lot of macro lenses over the years, and this is an absolutely SPECTACULAR lens. And, because it has OIS, it even behaves itself when used on NON-IS bodies, which there still are a number of in the line. (Plus it takes a TC, if you want to really goose the reach). It's exceptional.
I only shoot Micro Four Thirds. Here's my collection: Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 PRO Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 PRO Olympus 45mm f1.8 Panasonic Leica Summilux 25mm f1.4 MC-14 and MC-20 teleconverters Sigma 18-35mm and 50-100mm f1.8 for Canon EF with the Viltrox EF-M2 speedbooster. I'm looking to add a supertelephoto, either Olympus 100-400mm or 300mm f4 PRO. Just arguing with myself if I need to spend the extra $1000 or so on the 300mm f4 PRO. Of course, the 150-400mm f4.5 PRO is amazing but not remotely budget feasible.
With the Panasonic G97 announcement this week, there might be some renewed interest in the format. I'm always surprised at the people who make videos, no matter the product, who used something for 10 minutes and discovered everything was wrong. Thanks for always being thorough.
@@deadly7898 there's no catch. It's a great lens. Been around for a very long time. Weather sealed as well if I remember correctly. There is also a non Leica version for half the price with F3.5-5.6 aperture. Excellent everyday carry lens. As long as you can accept that it's not an F1.4 full frame prime lens, which some folks seem to apply as the standard against which every lens should be measured.😃
Every system has its pros and cons, M4/3 seems to have a sweet spot, especially when pairing the OM Systems bodies and lenses. The EM1X is my fave, paired with the OM pro lenses that have in-body zoom and focusing...
I like the 2,8 zooms and the 1,7 or 1,8 primes. Very good quality and extremely compact. A GX9 with a 1,7/20mm, a 1,7/15 and a 1,8/45 are always in my backpack.
about 11:28 I would really like to have one of those $250 OM System 150 - 600mm lens.😁 I probably won't use it that much but at that price it would be worth it.
A question for the pod. What do you think happened to compact MFT? These used to be the choice for high quality, compact, affordable cameras. In recent years, MFT cameras and lenses have grown in both size and price. They are now often similarly sized and priced to APS-C and some FF cameras. Do you think MFT will go back to it's compact roots?
APS-C cameras doesnt give at all the features of M43 like OM-1 price based of A6700, but gives you STACKED SENSOR (!!!!!), 50 fps with C-AF and 120 with S-AF, pre-capture (!) in RAW!!!!! and focus stacking & bracketing in camera (the second one have the speed none of other cameras have like 10-12 frames per second...) so please don't compare. ALSO the IBIS is 8.5 stops just in body of OM1 mark II..
@ PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION. I wasn’t comparing. What I was asking is about the COMPACT cameras. What happened to those? Sure you can put all the features in a MFT camera but that adds bulk. Where did the compact ones go? Same goes for the lenses. The main pull of MFT is the compact size and they are moving away from that.
@@garytheosophilus if that's the only reason, OM have the Pen F and Panasonic have the GX series to milk profit from. And yet, we are still missing the update to those.
@@bill0g the answer is simplier than you think.. PEOPLE BUY PHONES.. phone camera software is just getting better and better. Hardware not really, but software covers every problem of smaller sensor. Not much of cameras are 1", mostly chinese ones. So compact cameras back in 2010 would be different situation on your travel, than in 2024, nothing new.
I use an OM-1 with the 12-40 pro kit lens and the 100-400 f5-6.3 and this video has really made me think about adding a prime. Maybe the 75 f1.8 or something. It is cool how we have the choice of both manufacturers. I hope Sigma do start making MFT lenses again too. The whole system is so well suited to enthusiast photographers as well as pros that they really should be attracting a lot of new users and lens manufacturers. Maybe a few new affordable models can build some momentum for a big comeback. That would be really nice to see.
Thanks a lot for video like this. There’s always a prejudice, often negative about m4/3 system around You Tube. So this video one is a positive and very well explained the advantages of the lenses for m4/3. Oh by the way, you forgot to mention the excellent small diamond of Leica summilux 9mm f1.7 that I use. 😇🥰 so beside the 9mm with om5, 12-40 f2.8 and excellent sharp 40-150 f4 I go around with tiny backpack and takes photos. Portability to me as amateur is important issue here. And yes: 12-100 f4 is monumental awesome lens, but I love being much lightweight as possible.
My favorite M43 lens has to be the relatively obscure SLR Magic 25mm T0.95. It renders in such a unique way and it's the brightest lens available for the system
Being a Mu-43 user I appreciate this episode. The only thing I dont like about the OM zooms are the larger [Sigma ?] remounts as they are a bit heavy compared to the dedicated Mu-43 zooms But on the balance I really like using the system
I have 7 mft lenses including a couple of 1.7 primes and a 100-400, but my favorite is the Panasonic 35-100 2.8. I still love my full frame gear in most situations. Different tools for different jobs. It's all good.
OM 20mm 1.4 is now my only lens with OM5 and I love it... Some of my best shots I did with Oly 25 1.8 and 12-45... I'm going to by 12-45 again as a brother to 20mm...
Thanks for making this video - my 2¢? The Panasonic 20mm 1.7 (original or mark II) are a MUST HAVE for MFT. I've had and frequently use the original I got for the first digital PEN and it has become not just my favorite MFT lens but my favorite lens of all time and any system. It's sharp, it's fast, it's compact and the only down-sides are: 1) AF speed that isn't great, especially in low light and 2) it's prone to flare and if you use any filters it becomes even more prone to flares and can have serious reflections especially with small bright lights in-frame.
@@doublevgreenIt's actually fine for portraits/landscapes etc and I expect it might even be a tad faster with PDAF, but it's certainly not a fast action lens
I agree on image quality. The results of the Panasonic 20mm are great - but I can't handle the slow AF. It makes me miss too much of the spontanious opportunities I'd like to use it for. That made me try the Olympus 17mm - and the AF performs so much better! I tried both on Panasonic and Olympus bodies, but it made no difference.
Excellent review, thanks for highlighting the many positives of the M43 eco system. The “white beast” zoom lens is def out of my reach financially. I purchased the OM 150mm-600mm zoom lens and that has a 1200mm reach! Mine did cost a lot more than $250. Excellent lens and image quality and incredible image stabilisation. Highly recommended!
Hey there guys.. love the videos.. can you please tell me where you are getting a 150-600 for $250?? (11:20 in the video). My guess is that it's a typo.. I hate it when that happens! Anyway, thanks for the content. Now I have to save more money so I can get those F 1.7 lenses for my video work. Cheers Rick
If my Canon gear got stolen or destroyed I would seriously look at the OM System 150-400 4.5 and the OM 1 II or a used E-M1X. I've seen the 150-400 in stock at my local shop a few times and have been so tempted just to trade in my R5 and 100-500 and keep the R3 and 600F4 but running two systems is a hassle.
MFT was my gateway into serious photography. I still enjoy shooting my GH5 as a walkaround camera with the Leica DG 8-18. That is a special lens. I also love my Leica DG 100-400 even though I don't shoot it much any more. I was able to get some very good results with that lens at "relatively" low cost before the improvements in autofocus rolled out with the G9ii and GH7. If you can learn to work within the limitations of your camera system, and every camera system has limitations, MFT can be a lot of fun.
Just started shooting m4/3 for video. Enjoying the shooting experience a lot and liking the results a lot. Miss the bokeh for portraiture, but that’s it.
Great video! My 2 main go to lenses for everyday and travel are the 12-40 2.8 and Lumix 35-100 2.8. Coming from Canon L lenses, I can say with confidence that there is no sacrifice in lens quality with pro m43 lenses. In fact I have the 75-300 Olympus which is not a pro lens and even that is fantastic up to 250mm and acceptable beyond.
This is a manifesto for the versatility of the MFT system. Lots of different options for different use cases. When I started 30yrs ago I had the fantastic Canon EOS 1 but could only afford one zoom lens. 15yrs ago I picked MFT in order to be able buy more different lenses. Now I actually have two different MFT Pana combos for photography, a big one (G9ii)with two teles and the crazy 10-25 incl the Nocticron and a smaller one (GX9) with the 15mm 1.4 and a bunch of other small primes. What would be next? Maybe a fish eye or the classic 25mm which I‘ve avoided so far. Or a tilt shift lens?
I have a Z8 and a G9 II. I would normally take the Z8 on my important trips. Trips like places I’ve never seen before and want to be sure I have the best files to work with…but after a few trips with the G9 II, I question whether I’ll default to the Z8 as my first choice for the trip. The Z8 still would give me the best overall, but for what and how I shoot, there’s often not much of a reason why I’d really need to shoot with FF. That being said, due to Panasonic’s decision to do whatever they did to make the raw file size bigger on the disc, the Z8 actually has smaller files even though it has almost twice the resolution. 😮 That file compression Nikon has is magic (and I see ZERO difference in quality when using it).
Interesting video. I too have M43 for when my APS/c and FF kit is just too big or I just want to play. Having said that, I still love my go to portrait lens on M43 and that is the Olympus (OM system now) 45mm F1.8. It is just oh so sweet with a great rendition. On the front of my GX1 or GX7, it is a great pocketable portrait piece of kit that I just love.

finally a video that doesn't talk the MFT Death , but also just puts the positive sides of this beautiful, good and portable camera system in a positive way in the spotlight. that should happen more often as far as I'm concerned.
It's nice to see a m43 post that isn't doom and gloom, so to speak.
The doom and gloom is coming from OM mostly, they and Lumix is sharing this and for now it is Lumix that's taking the slack. OM needs to stop up.
Thank you for adding the audio. In spite of my best attempts, I could not get past the silent episode just being Chris whispering sweet nothings to all of us.
According to Hitchcock silent cinema is pure cinema, but my take is you will have to lip read.
Yeah it's really convenient with stull good results. People don't realize that the jump from FF to APSC is larger than the jump from APSC to m43.
I started on m43s before being drawn into the sensor size rabbit hole. But after trying almost all the FF brands I came back to m43s and couldn't be happier. I love how flexible and discreet the system is.
Thanks for covering these lenses. MFT, both cameras and lenses, are often ignored by other top RUclips reviewers.
If you guys are actually finding an OM 150-600 for $250 I would love to see a link, LOL. But seriously, always good to see more MFT representation. There are dozens of us MFT shooters! DOZENS!
me too, what a deal 🤣
I think they were still recovering from their last 'Drinking Game' when they annotated that slide. ;-)
Or were they thinking about the 75-300? Thats still more expensive but still 'affordable' though
Lumix 20mm f1.7 is my favorite everyday lens, it basically lives on my camera. Anyone love this, too?
Same here! My f/2.8 Pro zoom never gets a chance to shine.
YEAH! Micro Four Thirds Content !!! ❤❤
Hi Chris nice selection but you forgot to speak about the macro lenses where the micro 43 works great 😉
Yay! More micro 4/3 videos please! Would love to see a review of some of the crazy fast voightlander primes for 4/3
I just got the OM 20mm 1.4. It is amazing.
Any sharper might need to be dialed back, the model might say! ;)
Yes the 56mm is very sharp and contrasty but very clinical imo
The 1,8/45 from Oly is very good, too. I bought it used for 103€!
Excellent vid thnx guys.Gr8 to see M43 getting some love
Good to see. I love my MFT gear. Great portability, price, capabilities, and photos.
Olympus 12-100mm f4 is by far the best mft zoom lens. Good stab, crazy sharp, awesome range.
Used it a lot on a Zcam, what a great combo.
A refreshing video, highlighting just how good M4/3rds is. Thanks for taking the time for this, rather than many others who spend their time crapping on M4/3
As a dedicated M4/3 user, I thank you.
Thanks for covering M43!
PetaPixel Rocks
Panasonic Lumix 35-100/2,8 is the best of the best! (IMHO)
Buy the 12-35 and 35-100 lenses and you could be done for all but special situations.

Yay!! M43 content! I'm currently using 50/50 Sony FF and Oly and m43 is such a fun system with great lenses
It would be great to see a budget-friendly video of micro 4/3s lenses!
Yes, but seems mostly ignored in favor of big bulky gear ?
It's really gonna be the lumix counterparts of these same exact lenses (100-300, 25mm, etc), other than maybe the Oly 40 150 R. That lens is STELLAR for 50 bucks
I love my 40-150mm f/4. Small foot print and good reach. Works well in the urban landscape.
The 10-25 and 25-50 are a great combo for stills as well. As a wedding set up, accepting the image will be mft, they are absolutely perfect.
The OM System 8-25mm and 40-150mm f/4 PRO are both very high on my list of my next additions to my fleet.
i slapped a manual tokina 75-260 on my em5-3 and i'm the coolest dude on the beach now.
MFT is great for photo and even better for video! I'm using Oly Em1 MK2 and Panasonic GH5s on gimbal, what a combo! I'm waiting for GH7 to drop in price to grab one! And the lenses for this system are just outstanding! Long live MFT!
Mft is such a great system. Definitely deserves more love. Thank you guys for showing it🤗🤙
1:53 You don't hear that enough.
I love the fact that the example lenses are well used - like a favourite set of tools! Great video.
Missed the decimal point by one spot on that OM System 150-600mm. I thought that was an absolute STEAL for $250! I'm pretty sure it's $2500.
I've been a M43 shooter since 2011 and have never looked back. From my PEN-F to EM1X, they both fill my needs for any type of photography. Who needs Full Frame? ;)
I missed sometimes my old Olympus e-m10 mark 3, it was retro-modernish fun camera for an amateur like me
I can't see a reason for average consumer unless they do a lot of low light and astro photography. I prefer my fuji apsc for nice balance.
Ff lenses are great and relatively cheap though, and easy to find used
@@BrownieX001 👍🏻
answering your questions, there may be some scenarios where that extra light and depth of field are needed, like sport and weddings.
Love the MFT content!!
Hey, can you tell what is the name/Instagram@ of that Polish photographer? Got me interested what one might achieve with mft.
Nocticron domination!! Great video
I think you guys made some great picks. I use a lot of these lenses too.
My picks are:
PL 10-25 f/1.7
Oly 40-150 f/2.8
Lumix 20 f/1.7 II
PL 12-60 f/2.8-4
Sigma 30 and 56 f/1.4
Lumix 12-32 f/3.5-5.6
Lumix 35-100 f/4-5.6 (the mini one)
Honorable mention is the Lumix 45-200 II cause it's cheap, light weight, and optically decent for use on smaller bodies.
I love micro four Thirds. The panasonic 12-60 f3.5 to 5.6 is my go to travel lens with a prime.
My OM-1 is the perfect camera for me - small, rugged, great lens options, and the extra reach with the M43 sensor is handy.
Good call on the Pana-Leica 42.5; it's a lens that almost justifies having an M4/3 camera alone. And I know that because I've moved on to full frame and still find myself thinking, "I really wish I had that old 42.5..."
Very thoughtful list! Thanks from another dedicated MFT user, this system is an enabler for me and has given me so much joy!
I really do like the 20mm f1.4 pro so it is nice to see it getting some love.
My favourites are the leica 8-25, the 40-150 pro f 2.8 and the 75/ 1.8. I own 6 Mft lenses.
I don’t know what Jordan sees in that cumbersome, slow, expensive 8-25 (other than the versatile range - but that’s what feet are for)
The 9mm f1.7 is definitely a great wide angle prime lens.
My favorite lens too, extremely close focus, just love it...
The portrait of Jordan at 7:30 and the slow-mo shot of Chris fishing at 9:51 are just top tier!
That being said, please consider not using that "vintage style" background to showcase the pictures.
The black lines look like hair strands on the screen and are distracting, in my opinion 😅
No mention of the 50-200 2.8-4. Fantastic lens.
I just received a Yongnuo 17mm f1.7 lens. Great lens for the price. Not going to miss Sigma with all the MFT Yongnuo lenses that are availalbe.
For those purists who complain it's too wide, not the traditional 35mm EFL for Street, consider the 4:3 aspect ratio. When cropped to 3:2 or 135 film ratio, it is essentially the same as 35mm EFL.
Lumix 35-100mm f/4-5.6. It's a 70-200 FF equivalent in the palm of your hand and thus I actually carry it with me way more often.
been an om system since the om 1 thanks for showing these lens GREAT work
I gave up on L-mount due to lens size; now back to m43 after several years gap. Tiny G100D as EDC/travel and GH7 for the more serious stuff. Appreciating the 9/1.7,15/1.7,20/1.7,25/1.4 small fast primes.
Why ...why there is not a mention about Zuiko 12-40mm f2.8 ver II ?? ...please🙏🏻
Here's my collection:
Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II
Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 PRO
Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 PRO
Olympus 45mm f1.8
Panasonic Leica Summilux 25mm f1.4
MC-14 and MC-20 teleconverters
Sigma 18-35mm and 50-100mm f1.8 for Canon EF with the Viltrox EF-M2 speedbooster.
That Leica 12-60... A 24-120mm equivalent macro zoom at 320g for $800? What's the catch?
The catch is a quarter of a full frame sensor. Otherwise, even the kit Panasonic 12-60 is very capable
f/5.6-8 FF equivalent aperture 😂
@@frankfeng2701 it's a 2.8-4 aperture. That doesn't change when compared to FF.
F5.6-8 FF depth of field, yes.
They missed a zero and it’s just a rebranded Sigma 150-600mm which costs 1300 $ with Sony E-mount….
% profit margin is better for a more expensive camera?
@@garytheosophilus if that's the only reason, OM have the Pen F and Panasonic have the GX series to milk profit from. And yet, we are still missing the update to those.
@@bill0g the answer is simplier than you think.. PEOPLE BUY PHONES.. phone camera software is just getting better and better. Hardware not really, but software covers every problem of smaller sensor. Not much of cameras are 1", mostly chinese ones. So compact cameras back in 2010 would be different situation on your travel, than in 2024, nothing new.
No love for the PL 15mm 1.7?
Yeah, it’s one of my faves, especially indoors.
The only thing I dont like about the OM zooms are the larger [Sigma ?] remounts as they are a bit heavy compared to the dedicated Mu-43 zooms
But on the balance I really like using the system
12-100/4 is great one. Panasonic 25/1.7 and Oly 45/1.8 are both excellent price/performance lenses.
75-300 is also good one.
Bought the 150-400mm from ebay and I must say I hit the jackpot. It's a lovely lens.
If only dual IS worked across brands too
This is such a miss I think... If only they could allow the lenses to work seamlessly across brands...
Yes, I wish that too.
I used it and honestly the autofocus is horrendous. Id rather get a manual lens because then youll focus faster manually than this lens automatically
@@doublevgreenIt's actually fine for portraits/landscapes etc and I expect it might even be a tad faster with PDAF, but it's certainly not a fast action lens
I know a lot of users love this lens, but I couldn’t bring myself to like it. Bought it and sold it like 6 months later
@@doublevgreen I agree - the AF is a deal breaker for sports, little kids or anything requiring fast AF
Sigma's lenses for mft are lenses that are designed for full frame or APS-C sensor cameras. They are bigger and heavier than genuine mft lenses.
Cheers
Rick
Lovely video, just got the 12-60 in my hands.
Audio this time…had fun guessing on first run….btw love the fact that you can read the article on your web site too!
Wow, the OM/Sigma 150-600 is only $250? I know it's kind of a chunker since it's a full frame lens, but tough to beat that price!
