The passion Mark brings is irreplaceable. He puts a different emphasis on different words than is typically done and brings such skill. He's sitting down in this performance because of his MS. He sang with the Gaithers for years and has some truly hilarious comedy routines available on RUclips also.
That gentleman is Mark Lowry, who wrote and sung the song originally!! The reason he is sitting is because he has MS! 18 seconds.....twice!!

That's right - I keep forgetting that he wrote that one! Both he and Voctave are amazing - this was a perfect collaboration.
He wrote the lyrics. His fellow Gaither singer, Buddy Greene, wrote the music. What a performance!
I love that Mark is singing this. The fact that he wrote it, and loves performing it, is just a treasure.
Kate Lott is such an amazing soprano
The gentleman to the far left as you look at them is the wonderful Jamey Ray. He does all of Voctave's arrangements and founded the group. Most of Voctave's members are past or present performers with the Voices of Liberty who sing at the American Pavillion in EPCOT at WDW.
Mark Lowry sang for several decades with the Gaither Vocal Band. He wrote the words to this when he wondered what he would ask Mary if they were just sitting down for a cup of coffee. He took the lyrics to Buddy Greene, one of his best friends, and he wrote the music.
Mark has multiple sclerosis which is why he is sitting down to sing even though that makes it harder to sustain the notes.

Mark Lowry actually wrote this song back in 1985. First performed by Michael English in 1991. Music written by Buddy Green in 1991. Oh yeah...the soprano is Katie Lott. 😬

Mark penned 'Mary Did You Know' as a poem which he used on a Christmas card one year. Several years later he sent the lyrics to several friends to get suggestions for putting his poem to music. His friend, Buddy Green, who is a marvelous harmonica player, composed the original music in this gorgeous minor key. Check him out. Much later, Mark Lowry sang 'Mary Did You Know' as lead in this Utube video. The group of singers known as Voctave is an acappella group that sometimes sing backup as they did with Mark, but when they sing as a group, they use as many or as few members as required for the individual productions! Kudos to everone in Voctave for everything they are part of! Mark was sitting down in this video because he has MS. It is incredible that He had such marvelous breath control.

Voctave is simply phenomenal, I recommend that you react to their version of: Oh holy Night, O Come all ye faithful and the magnificent medley of O Come, O Come Emmanuel / The First Noel / I Wonder As I Wander. Also, I recommend everything from Disney and Broadway that they did

Mark Lowry is the author of this song. In past interviews, he says the song is based on a series of questions he’d like to ask Mary. So, yes, he’s asking Mary these questions and really believes what he’s saying.
"All is Well" sung by Voctave is very much worth listening to also. You won't regret it in the least.
You two did a lot better than I ever do. I've probably watched/heard this version with Voctave featuring Mark at least 100 times. But I can never get more than the 1st few lines before my tears are flowing like waterfalls from my eyes it's so beautiful. After this version, I don' know how anyone can watch any other!!

This arrangement/performance perfectly instills Awe in the listener. You soar with them and feel the joy and triumph of the message, and you come away feeling very small. It's not an emotion you can find in most forms of music.

Nope, she does everything in head voice. She's a coloratura soprano who can generally hit notes upto f6 in head voice conveniently.
Also, I know this is a year late. But Mark recovered from Throat cancer before he sang this. He was told he would never sing again because of it. But he us still singing even to this day.

I heard a new Christmas song by The Serenad3 that features Voctave. They are singing Carol Of The Bells. It's really different than how we usually hear this song. I really enjoyed it. They do have a video here on RUclips, if you're still looking for another song to give a reaction to.
