And what about the MS? That diagnosis came seven years ago, Lowry said. He decided against shots a doctor recommended, thinking that side effects would last longer than just during treatment. The doctor warned that future "episodes" could leave him blind or paralyzed, but no more symptoms have appeared, Lowry said. He thinks the diagnosis was wrong. "I just have chosen to believe I don't have it," he said.
He is the writer and original singer of Mary did you know.... A very very very favorite of mine. Have seen him live. U need to watch him sing Mary do you know by himself
He's got talent on loan from God! You should see his version of this, it must be 20 or 30 years ago, where it was just him a piano and 2 guys who were just there for a few harmonies!! It's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen, and the first time I was able to say Pentatonix didn't make the song better than the original!! But this was great as well.
@stevesrssrssrs the performance you are speaking of was Mark Lowry On Broadway. Mark performed Mary Did You Know with David Phelps and Guy Penrod who he sang with in Gaither Vocal Band. The gifted Anthony Burger accompanied Mark, David and Guy on the piano and added to the performance!!!
Voctave is a vocal group. They sometimes invite a singer to join in, like they did here. Lowry is the co-writer to the song they sang. That's probably the reason for the emotional connection. You really should do more Voctave. They are SO bloody brilliant. My suggestions would be "Someone Like You" from Jekyll and Hyde. Jody McBrayer, the brought in for the day lead singer, has a beautiful voice, and Kate does her soft shit again. First time i heard it she made me cry, bad girl :) Other must watch are "How far I'll Go" from Moana. GREAT version!! "Disney Princess Medley" is fantastic, and so is "Disney Showstoppers". ..and don't forget "Poor unfortunate Souls/Put a Spell On You" with Rachel Potter.
This is one of my favourite songs to play at Christmastime, I've listened to it at least a hundred times and still, it just made me cry. The harmonies these people are capable of just hit you riiiiight in the soul, and some of those notes Kate hits, my lord. Gifted, these people are absolutely gifted ❤️
I'm liking this even without watching. Been waiting for you guys to do this one. Now that I've watched, Voctave is based out of Orlando Florida, I believe. Many of them work for or have worked for Walt Disney World. Some of them aren't always there and sometimes they will bring in a new voice, but this group here is usually the main group. Mark Lowery is the original writer of the song and a christian comic.
Awesome video!! Mark Lowry a few years ago discovered another gospel singer, his name is David Phelps, he is a tenor, please listen and if you can, make a video reacting. Thanks!
So glad you did this one -- I remember when Mark first wrote this song.......and the first time I heard it, brought me to tears. This version was amazing. Thank you nice person for suggesting!
Thank you nice lady, for making the suggestion list!👍🌹🌺💐 I love Voctav, this was beautiful! I also thought that quite high note at the end stole the show.
Because you guys were talking about Kate's high notes, take a look at Kirstin's and Jeremy's rehearsal with Voctave. It's a short video but very fun reaction by both Jeremy and Kirstin. Video goes with a title "Voctave Rehearsal (with Kirstin Maldonado and Jeremy Michael )". For some reason, I like this version more than the version by PTX. Voctave has this wall of sound... And having the songwriter singing a beautiful rendition...
Thank you nice person :) Mark Lowry wrote the song. Jamey Ray does all the Voctave arrangements (he is the tenor on the far left, as you look at them). Mark Lowry is a member of the Gaither Vocal Band and a standup comedian. All the members of Voctave are in this video but there may be less in some of the others. My suggestion for the next Voctave video would be Disney Princesses Medley. Hope you enjoy.
Yeah, Kate Lott is amazing. Her final D6 is extraordinary in its own right, but also: earlier in the song, near the end of Mark Lowry's epic long note, she sings a G6 with that same control. I just don't have enough superlatives. For reference, that beautiful and perfectly-controlled background G6 is nearly a full octave above the standard soprano range.
Mark Lowery wrote the lyrics to this song. You can definitely hear his heart as he sings. Yes, the singer's in back are all Voctave. They often do videos with fewer members but are always superb.
He has MS, which is why he's seated!! 17 seconds!!
I am not really a very "emotional" guy, but this version gets tears from me! It's so REAL! So heartfelt. I have "known" Mark Lowry for many years, with the Gaither Vocal Band. He KILLED this! And not many better than Voctave! The two together is a stunner! Leaves me speechless.
Every time I hear it I think I am going to make it through without crying... I always end up having tears in my eyes. Marco, your sheer amazement and shock during this is priceless and Ali, your smile throughout is just amazing to watch. I had goosebumps with you both the whole way through this reaction. Love you guys
I have been singing a cappella Poliphony for over 30 years... I am glad to see your emotion and appreciation ... you are decisively ready to explore a new world... as you say a new alternative universe... imagine listening this live in a Concert Halll ! Explore more Poliphony ! Arrangements with 16 voices , fractal music, contemporary or classic there is another musical universe out there!
I had the pleasure of meeting Mark at one of his shows one year for Christmas. He is truly an angel of God and gave the warmest of hugs. I was only 14 or 15 , maybe? But even still, was so fun. I also had a few other occasions where I had the chance to meet the Gaither Vocal Band and got to hug and meet all of the performers. Such an amazing group!!!!!
Voctave is a cute name for 8 voices. Plus guest star Mark Lowry for this one because he is one of the composers. Their arrangement is amazing and the precision soprano work is like a huge wave crashing all over you. Wow.
If u love Mark Lowry's music then u will dig his comedic stand-ups. Just a couple if ur interested are: - Momma had enough - All momma ever wanted was the last word. Good, clean comedy & there's a reason why I call him the Robin Williams of Gospel Comedy.
Mark penned this as a poem which he used on a Christmas card. Several years later he sent the lyrics to several friends to get suggestions for putting his poem to music. His friend, Buddy Green, who is a marvelous harmonica player, composed the original music in this gorgeous minor key. Check him out too. Much later, Mark Lowry sang lead in this video. The group of singers known as Voctave is an acappella group that sometimes sing backup as they did here, but when thet sing as a group, they use as many or as few members as required for the individual productions! Kudos to everone in Voctave for everything they are part of!
for me, this song is proof positive that we are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience. the angels could sing it no better! I've heard Mark do many versions of this--some better than others--but this was the best i've heard him sing and the best anyone/any group has done, doing this song IMHO. i liked your reaction, but you didn't mention the long long note Mark Lowry held in approximately the middle of the song, and that's what i really was looking forward to. by the way, Buddy Greene wrote the music for this song. most folks fail to mention that, so i thought i would.
Wow. I have a personal history of memories of Mark Lowry from his comedic days, listening to him with the Gaithers with my mom, who is no longer with us. So this hit me on so many levels: how my mom would have loved the resurgence of a cappella, this song, with Mark singing it. That's the emotional level. On my musician side, there was a group in college called Chamber Chorale, the elite singers, instead of the large choir that Voctave's arrangement reminds me. And that high controlled bell tone at the top on the end, magic, pure musical magic.
So beautiful I will listen to it all year long. It isn't just for Christmas!:-) I just got new hearing aides that have a program for music. I am now able to hear things I haven't heard in 30 years. Now I'll have to listen to all the amazing music I've listened to recently all over again. Such a hard life.:-)
mark tells the story of how he came to write this song, on a tour bus late at night, he thought if he could ask any questions of Mary, what would he ask? and there was the song. Mark is a wonderful gospel singer.
The music of this song is absolutely majestic, but I have to say the lyrics are rather idiotic. We are literally told specifically that Mary knew what Christ would do.
The arranger for Voctave is Jamey Ray who is on the far left in the video. If you go to their page, Voctave.com, there is a bio for each singer in the "About" section. Phenomenal voices!! And thank you, nice list lady!
Voctave.com go check them out and read their bios. Jamey Ray is Voctave’s creator, producer, and arranger. Disney World and Central Florida are Home Base along with Stetson University Music Department. I’m going to a Dec 7th 2018 concert here... come join us.
I‘ve had listened to that version so many times I can’t even count and I still get goosebumps all over. Mark has such a beautiful voice and we don’t need to say that Voctave did that as brilliant as they do everything! If you haven’t done a reaction video for Someone like you - Voctave ft. Jody McBrayer - please do that, too!
Right now, Voctave consists of 11 members. For this song, Mark Lowry, the writer of the song, to do the lead singer. I've heard this by Home Free and also Pentatonix and both are really good, but this one by Voctave is simply superlative. I have never (nor do I expect to) heard the sheer beauty, angelic voices and the exaltation in the singing. Wow. The last chord of voices really sounds like someone running their damp finger around the rim of a fine crystal goblet. It just rings.
There is a wonderful group " Small Town Titians ", their lead singer is amazing and a perfect example is his rendition of Mr. Grinch. Don't let that one get by you. Happy New Year and keep up the great reactions. Holly from Bremen.
Millennials take note, this is real talent / ability. It's new to you but we baby boomers have seen it all our lives. How does Rap and Hip Hop stack up now as an art form?
Hey! I'm super late to the party, but Jamey Ray is the one who arranges their music. Additionally, he actually founded this group from members of the Voices of Liberty choir at Disney EPCOT - most (if not all?) of the singers in Voctave came from there. He's the person standing on the far left in this particular video.
Mark Lowry wrote this song....i love the song so much...i always cry....can u react to Mary did u know by pentatonix...they have done it...its beautiful...thank u guys...i feel blessed😇
Another Christmas song that’s good year around is by Luke Edgemon. He sings O Holy Night. The tone and control is wonderful. FYI Luke Edgemon has sung with Scott Hoying, Tori Kelly, and Shoshana Bean. He was also on the Voice.
Mark Lowry is a Christian comedian in the U.S. and was also part of the Southern Gospel group the Gaither Vocal Band. Mark wrote the words to Mary, Did know?
+MAProductions Jamey Ray composes all of Voctave's Arrangements. He's one of the group's members as well, so he's in, pretty much, all of their videos.
Good job Brothers. When God allows his angels to sing you will cry Godly tears. Now please react to David Phelps a friend of Mark Lowry live only please. Songs like. Just as I am. Never walk alone. Go Holy Night. No More Night. Water and many more. I promise that you will feel blessed
Pentatonix is great, but to hear Mark sing his own song is to hear it the way it was written. This is the only version I remember hearing where you hear the punctuation. Mary, (comma) did you know? Listen to it. Hear him call her?
It’s not any disrespect to Mark, what he did was utterly incredible, but at the same time what Kate did is something no singer has done before. Like he said, that last note requires a lot of air, control, and softness, all at the same time having to be quiet and blend with the rest of the group 👀
Marco had a very serious incident in the family and he needs to be there for them! So not a lot of videos coming this week! SORRY!
MAProductions Marco we are with you and we hope everything will be fine
So sorry to hear that! Take care of your family and yourself Marco!
Wil have him in my prayers. ❤❤❤
Sending love and hugs. Best wishes
MAProductions Sorry to hear that and Marco, be strong and you always have my support. Hope everything will go well for Marco and his family.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ Mark Lowry wrote this song. He has MS and that is why he is seated. This is so beautiful it often brings me to tears.
Kay Rush he doesn’t have ms
SJred Actually his Doctor says he does. Mark has talked about it. Look it up.
Wow, I didn't know he had MS
What is MS?
Mark Lowry is also a commedian and quite funny. For many years he was part of the Gaither Vocal Band, a Christian gospel group.
Its that goofy childishness that really brings out the impact and sincerety of his serious works.
I had the great pleasure of meeting Mark Lowery at one of his shows. He's a Christian comedian and gospel singer. He's truly an amazing man!
Mark held that note fooorreeeverr! Amazing..just amazing
21 seconds. Then another 19 second one at the end. Crazy talented/breath control.
There's nothing like hearing Mark Lowry sing this song. Even when he first debuted the song YEARS ago he sand it with such passion.
He is the writer and original singer of Mary did you know.... A very very very favorite of mine. Have seen him live. U need to watch him sing Mary do you know by himself
the first to record the song was Michael English . Michael and mark where in the gaither vocal band.
Simply the most beautiful accapella version I have heard. Voctave was magnificent and Mark Lowry, you were anointed. Thank you.

It was really cool watching someone's mind being blown in real time, during Kate's high G
Voctave is a vocal group. They sometimes invite a singer to join in, like they did here. Lowry is the co-writer to the song they sang. That's probably the reason for the emotional connection.

JohnnyNr5 yesss yesss and yesss.
JohnnyNr5 Mark Lowry wrote the words and Buddy green wrote the music.
Mark Lowery wrote this song. He is a Christian comedian and has been a long time member of the Bill Gaither Gospel band. Thank you for your reaction.
Mark is the author of the song. I love hearing him sing it.
What gets me every time... Is both of your expressions throughout this song.
Beautiful, just beautiful. Thank you nice lady patreon ; ) MARCO, you almost looked like you were not going to survive the experience,
this is an example of a masterful arrangement... it uses all of the voices to their maximum potential...
Mark is an amazing singer, even with MS, and he wrote this song as well!

Incredible performance by Mark and the entire group.

Chris Britton *Fort Lauderdale, Florida actually.
Thanks, I knew Florida, and just assumed Orlando because of their connection to Disney and Epcot.
Chris Britton no problem!
Chris Britton, you were correct, they all live in the Orlando area.
Awesome video!! Mark Lowry a few years ago discovered another gospel singer, his name is David Phelps, he is a tenor, please listen and if you can, make a video reacting. Thanks!
David Phelps is my favorite vocalist ever! Have you heard him sing Water with his daughter? and also I've just seen Jesus with Lana Ranahan
So glad you did this one -- I remember when Mark first wrote this song.......and the first time I heard it, brought me to tears. This version was amazing. Thank you nice person for suggesting!
Mark Lowry is the original writer of the song (lyrics) so the passion he exudes in this arrangement makes it more meaningful.
Thank you nice lady, for making the suggestion list!👍🌹🌺💐 I love Voctav, this was beautiful! I also thought that quite high note at the end stole the show.

Mark Lowry held that note for four measures. Impressive!!!!
And Mark is 60 years old!
That was longer than four measures!
Please react to Voctave “Let there be peace on earth”. It’s awesome. They have 6 male singers, and 5 female. A group of 11.
Thank you nice lady for helping the guys out with a reaction list. :)
Love all your videos! Great reactions! I prefer when you talk over parts of the video, I don't know why, it's just really entertaining, keep it up!
Thank you kind person!!!
Love your Reaction!! Mark wrote the lyrics for this song & sang the lead in this performance!!
Angelic voice from Mark, my God his voice goes trough the bone, amazing, full of grace, beautiful ❤️🇳🇱
He has a surprisingly powerful voice. He does so much charity work
The original version of just Mark and a few members of his band, is my ALL TIME FAVORITE! He sings with such passion ❤
Mark Lowery wrote the lyrics to this song. You can definitely hear his heart as he sings. Yes, the singer's in back are all Voctave. They often do videos with fewer members but are always superb.

Been a bit--great to see and hear your voices of sanity.
Great job guys! Always enjoy your reactions! Keep the Voctave videos going by reacting to “Someone Like You” next! You’ll really enjoy it!
Hey guys. I WAS gonna have an early night. Then this notification came up. Now I'm gonna be up for hours listening to music. THANKS!!

Their arrangement is amazing and the precision soprano work is like a huge wave crashing all over you. Wow.
They have 11 people, and Voctave is the word Octave with a V in front of it.
If u love Mark Lowry's music then u will dig his comedic stand-ups.
Just a couple if ur interested are:

I REALLY want you to listen to Ringmasters singing You’ll never walk alone/Climb every mountain. I think you will be amazed!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful music. Disappointed that you did not mention Mark in your comments. He is a fantastic singer!
Mark Lawry sings with the Gaither vocal band also
Mark Lowry wrote this song, also I understand that he did this arrangement.
Good job Brothers. When God allows his angels to sing you will cry Godly tears. Now please react to David Phelps a friend of Mark Lowry live only please. Songs like. Just as I am. Never walk alone. Go Holy Night. No More Night. Water and many more. I promise that you will feel blessed
