Nice trip. It was 1998 when I first heard the name "Maybach" used on a car as opposed to an aircraft engine. I was hired to manage the production of an industrial documentary motion picture (not video) on the first-gen mini-limousine, the Model 57. The German production company shipped a pre-production vehicle to Miami, Florida in order to shoot film against our gorgeous water views and puffy cumulus clouds. That damned car refused to work as planned. The entire trunk was taken up with a bunch of computers, terminals, test equipment and tools. It drove beautifully--when it started. We had to tow it using a low-boy trailer in several shots. We got to shut down the Rickenbacker Causeway in order to accomplish the aerial shots using a helicopter, and then using the police to escort that beast to make a U-turn. There was a complete platoon of technicians sent from Germany that were in charge of every detail: the leather guys, the wood paneling guys, the paint and exterior guys, the lighting guys, the engine guys, the electronics guys. There were almost as many guys who were sent to make that car work as there were people on the film crew. Fortunately, all of the footage that was shot was MOS--silent footage, no sound. I'm sure that the audio tracks would have been ruined by shouted expletives whenever some part would fail. Loved the way the light controls for the the roof, the champagne cooler and the footrests worked. It took another year for them to work out the kinks in this car.

The other feature that I absolutely love is the driving assist. In stop and go traffic it just follows the car in front starting and stopping as needed and staying in lane. Very much relieves the annoyance of stop and go. Same feature is great out on the highway for long open roads; just need to touch the steering wheel every minute or so (and it reminds you) or it will slowly roll to a stop. They want to keep the driver awake! Also cruise control uses brakes going down the hills so it truly holds speed. Very nice. This luxury is VERY affordable for 0.005% of Americans
"This is better than your living room" Yes, yes it is
"This will be the most luxurious, the most high end, the most futuristic car ever!"
(Proceeds to put front grill onto it from a 2003-2011 Lincoln Town Car)

One thing Mercedes does do very well, like Apple, are the interface graphics and fonts and layout. Makes it very easy and effortless to use.
They have been pinnacle of interior design and innovation forever. Also benz has introduced basic things like ABS so it’s not far fetched to say they’ve always been ahead of the game with rolls and Bentley close behind
@@okftw7314 In luxury they are behind Rolls Royce though.
@@marksapollo What is luxury according to you?
@@absolutium Rolls Royce.
@@marksapollo So.. you don't know.
Whatever the cost of that vehicle is, the pinstriping is supposedly a custom feature, but the line running along the length of the car doesn’t match up with the continued pinstriping on the fuel door! That’s early Ford Taurus level of quality.
Actually saw one on the "Autobahn" 3 days ago. It looks so Majestic
5:01 "I promise you the exciting part is still coming up because it happens in the back seat."

Lew needs to do more car reviews.
yeah right it kind of fits him naturally
Nothing short. Car has more than everything luxurious. Bespoke.
The hooks in the boot aren’t for suits, they’re for carrying food shopping so the bags don’t roll around the boot. You hang the carrier bags to they remain stable while driving.
The owners of these cars have never been food shopping! They have people for that.
@@trevorhare9393 this is true haha. But so is my point :)
Really nice vehicle, and definitely my favorite! I wonder what they'll do in the future with an electric version...
The eqs is kind off the electric s-class
@@0WhyNot3 The EQS is almost aggressively ugly. And is nowhere near as luxurious as a Maybach
@@moonlad3835 Thats why i said "kind off". It is an electric luxury car but not on the same level. I don't really mind the looks but they are not great
@@0WhyNot3 I know the EQS is the electric S-class, I'm saying when the Maybach EQS sedan comes out. I really hope Mercedes can fix their electric sedans. Their electric SUVs are nice, but not so much their sedans...
I would say I dont understand why they did not release Maybach on EQS platform but get rid of the ugly face from EQS...
Maybach never travel out of the city anyway... it is Limo with driver from airport to office to home/hotel... and EQS platform is ideal for it but not the ugly face
Mercedes really need to study the used car market: some used Maybach only collect under 100K miles over 10-15 year possession... these Maybach most likely drive under 10,000 miles a year... so per trip is not that much so why not go electric
and having a platform with limited number built is not really worth of keeping it running even 250K are being charged. you can charge 250K with the same platform with Maybach interior
This is by far my favorite car review video ever, it was beautiful and hilarious.
When I saw that door button mounted on the headliner I was like "what rich person wants to lift their hand to close a door" but you made it all better with the hand motion.

My bro you seriously underestimated Rolce Royce...
I wonder how the review experience would be if Lew didn't know the item's price beforehand.
Ya he's basically the supercar Blondie of tech. Oblivious to actual features and tech, just talks about how cool and expensive and cool things are
@@Zhaopow3 Nah Lew is a tech nerd just like us. His car vids are mostly hype shows as he isn't too knowledgeable in that space. He's successful, he gets nice things 🤷♂️
Is this a drivable car or a new version of a tiny home? I'm confused
I was given the opportunity to drive this exact car and it was quite the experience. Both as passenger in the rear and pilot. Just an amazing machine.
I came here for the comments and it was so worth it lol
After going through your reviews some weeks ago I just bought it today and it's really futuristic car, I'm impressed though!
Just thinking about all the fingerprints and smudge marks on this car makes me freeze in horror
I just wanted to appreciate the production of the review as a whole. Perfectly executed, reminiscent of some prime Top Gear montage 👏👏
Dude one ride in rolls and this is done. Yeah, MASSIVE technology, but to the point of pure luxury - no match for rolls.
Seriously, RIDE QUALITY dude.

I’m surprised the vents aren’t electronically controlled on a car like this. There’s cameras all over the car inside, which could check to see the occupants face and have the option to set the vents to blow on the face with the press of a button instead of trying to adjust them manually. Now that would be something new and cool. Btw, you forgot to mention “snort space” for the trays 🤑
i had a mercedes guy tell me the company is now looking at using a “diffused airflow system” apparently it allows for even cooling without a vent blasting at you
They had to leave something for you to do so you don't fall asleep while driving.
That car ride looks so comfy id be affraid id be falling asleep behind the steering wheel
Actually, it has a camera in the dash that records your eye movements. If the driver closes his/her eyes for a few seconds, an alarm sounds and the seat vibrates. WAKEY WAKEY!!😳
these are chauffeur cars. which means you buy it to sit in the back. you hire a driver full timr.

How can anyone live with themselves knowing that they didn't pay a bit more for the S680?
Yeah seriously. 😅

I have one on order!!!!! Can't wait

totally expected a 7 figure price tag, at 300k it seems pretty alright (in singapore our lambos are around 700~k USD and many luxurious cars are around that range)
This is a S$1.1m car in Singapore right now
I’ve heard of it. In Singapore, cars cost 5 times what they should
The type of car you see in a shady alley a has to enter to get briefed by a rich guy about your next mission...
my first time seeing a review video by you and you do an excellent job! I'd get the car if I could afford it based off your reviewing style. I don't shave much but I would definitely get one of those razors because of how you reviewed it! I will definitely be checking out more of your videos 👍🏾
Yes
I've ordered 3 of these Maybecks all from China..... I can't wait.
I done it this way because those German ones are so expensive 😂🤣

Would you prefer this Maybach or a highly speced Rolls Royce Phantom?
Maybach.
Rolls Royce are ugly and they have too much bmw in them.
@@Tobi-ln9xr I totally agree
Maybach S680 V-12.
Why anyone would pay 2-5 million for a hypercar that's made obsolete in a year when you could have this baller ass carriage for 300k and have enough left over to pay the salary of a chauffer for 30 years is beyond me.
Surely the safest way to control the car would be by Siri verbal instructions. That has to be the next step forward.
When you mentioned Mercedes' Rolls Royce Killer.
*Rolls Royce left the chat*
First seconds I watch this video I am fallen in love with your atmosphere. It is the first video I am watching and it is definitely worthing a sub❤
thank you for reviewing something 90% of people can't afford
It's a bit too basic looking for a "Rolls Royce killer". Like when you see a Rolls, or a Bentley, they stand out so much. This stands out kinda.
Years ago, when trying to talk my mother into buying a 1974 Cadillac Talisman, when i opened the back door and she saw the built in arm rest between the two individual seats, she replied: " are you telling me in a car this size you can only have FOUR PEOPLE in in", I replied Yes and she walked away!!., ......enough said!!!!
Just a statement from Mercedes Benz, watching this video with a smile on my face 🙂
I love watching videos abt things I can't afford.
I like how they report fuel economy in Volume / Distance rather than Distance / Volume. Much more practical number. (btw this is 15 mpg city, 24 mpg highway)
Mercedes Maybach is another level
its really good to see how unbox therapy went from bend gate to reviewing expensive ass cars
I believe he meant to say Mercedes Rolls Royce competitor..." Not killer
All demonstrated by a geezer in a hoodie and baseball cap, real class!
I would fall asleep instantly on this energizingmode
*Even with unlimited funds I'd never touch a Mercedes product.*
All it’s missing is the huge LED TV on the headliner like they have in the BMW I7.
I’d be pumping pheromones through that scent booster
So basically a bunch of fancy LEDs and a cup holder. Got it!
