Operation: Mindcrime is a Masterpiece. A whole lot of very great tunes to go back and re-visit amongst their material before and up to Operation: Mindcrime, as well. Queen of the Reich was the first song I heard by them. Looking back, some of the imagery of the 80's warrants forgetting, but the brilliance of Queensryche's music should not be forgotten!
If you haven’t already seen the other interviews, many of them get continued or part 2. Great interview , funny how he mentions rooting through the import records when he was younger I did the same and found their EP only 4 songs it was great . My opinion they lost a lot of fan based momentum after mind crime because it seemed like they were convinced doing these kind of what I call concept albums was the way to go , just my opinion , glad he is doing well . \../
Why so many promises for future videos with the interviewees on this channel where those videos never appear, even after a year? That's annoying. Don't promise if you won't deliver.
I tend to play it all the way through on the holidays or even a weekend, where I'm on chill mode, clock is stuck on 4:20 and I'm back in my teenage brain jamming out and playing a video game or guitar...
Why to this day does Rage For Order still not get the love, appreciation & props it's been so long overdue?? THAT is the album where they came into their own. THAT is the moment where they sounded like no other artist on the planet. NOT on Op: MC. Mindcrime is beyond amazing but Rage is when they really made the 1st big move to establish themselves. And it's packed full with truly great well written songs. This video comes off like cut clips of him answering the interviewer's specific questions. I don't believe Whip himself would just skip over Rage if he was openly talking about Ryche's history.
The press hated their use of synths and samples, it was a huge leap from The Warning or the QOTR E.P. I still think Rage is their best work. The early work is untouchable and lucky to have seen them several times up to Hear In The Now, which was all down hill after that for me.
Got to do security for Ryche back in 2001, first night of that tour it was in Phx. That entire day was crazy and incredible. But what I remember most about hanging w/ Ryche most of the day and night was how cool, fun and just a regular guy Michael was. We sat backstage laughing about the 80's styles while asking what were we really thinking back then? We talked about guitars, guitars, guitars. At the end of the show someone got on stage on his side and grabbed one of his Les Pauls threw it into the crowd. I was on the other side of the stage and I just happened to see the guitar flying out into the crowd. I took off running into the crowd, got outside and saw a guy running with it across the parking lot. I caught up to him, we got into a bit of a fight, didn't take long (cause my day job was working Maximum level corrections for the State of AZ.. I had him on the ground pretty quick. Got the guitar and took it backstage and handed it to Michael who had already kicked a hole in the dressing room door, he was so pissed. But when he saw me with it, he came up took the guitar, and gave me a hug and thanked me. For me that was the end of it.. But, nope. He later on found me before they were getting on the bus to leave and gave me a box full of Ryche swag and everything was signed by all the members of Ryche. Even Geoff who I will say was disappointing that day, he was in full on diva mode the entire day. But he signed everything too, and he had the band take a photo with me. He didn't have to do any of that, nor was I expecting any of it.
He seems really cool, but Chris DeGarmo was the main creative force behind the band, along with Geoff Tate. The band hasn't been the same since Chris left.

Geoff Tate and Chris DeGarmo are the only reason Michael Wilton has a career. He is a good guitar player, but there are lots of those who never made it. I am sure he is a nice enough guy, but after Chris left the band, the musical creativity did, too.
🤔🤔🤔 don't know about that Michael is a great guitar 🎸 player as is Chris, but the quality of music goes when the singers and song writers go. Then the band looses their identity and try to hard to capture what they all as a band had.
Having watched both Michael and Geoff interviews on this channel, I suddenly realized why I became such a huge Queensrÿche fan. They both say the same thing in their separate interviews about how they got their inspiration from European and NWOBHM bands. Being a 13-14 year old impressionable kid, my first two favorite hard rock bands were Judas Priest and Iron Maiden followed quickly by Accept, Grim Reaper, Scorpions, etc.. As I got older, I got heavily into progressive rock of Rush, Pink Floyd, Genesis, and Yes, and it's undeniable that this is exactly where Queensrÿche was at. I've been a huge fan since Operation Mindcrime came out and saw them opening for Metallica in 1988, but it wasn't until relatively recently that I finally realized the connection. Seems obvious in retrospect, but not all of us are students of music theory, we just know what we like and that's it. The late 80's and early 90's were a magical time for hard rock and metal, and I'm glad that I grew up in the middle of it.
The title of the video is "QUEENSRYCHE Michael Wilton talks MINDCRIME" - But as soon as he starts to talk about Mindcrime, the video ends... 95% of this video is talk about what lead to Mindcrime.
In 1985, I worked at a hotel front desk. There was one of our cute guest sitting in the lobby jamming on the guitar. Just him, his wife, my coworker and I. My response, Dang you’re good. Are you in a band?😂😂😂 My bf has their symbol tattoo on his back. First time I saw it, “Hey I met Michael”.
This band needs to bury the hatchet, look at the bigger picture and get their shit together. They are better when they play as one, than all this politics crap. Get the band back together and it doesn't matter how they do it, but Chris and Geoff are massively key. I know this is wishfull thinking but ffs sort it out guys.
Mindcrime is one of my top 5 albums of all time. But, I've been relistening to Rage and Warning recently and I have to say I like them better than Mindcrime at the moment. Great interview. Keep up the great work.
Had to laugh when Michael said MTV started in 88/89. MTV launched in 1981. In fact, the extremely ironic, very first song MTV played, was The Buggles' hit *Video Killed The Radio Star.* Otherwise, great interview with Michael.
Well...Wilton got what he wanted...he bustled Degarmo and Tate out of the group and now reigns over a mediocre bar band. That's what happens when you're jealous of the songwriters in the band and feel like your only choice is to sever yourself from career and prestige and respect. What a shmuck.
,,,,so cool.......remember those years,,,,,,great story told..........wow..first years hearing this band,I was instantly a fan,,,,,......and then..........EMPIRE....!.........................great memories made with Queensryche in the background...
I have a guitar pic of yours I caught at Greensboro when you toured with Ozzy ! It has your name on one side and Queensryche on the other side ! In the 80's

ROCK N ROLL VETERAN, Right There !! Much respect to a Rock musician who has toured/worked and written as much as someone like Michael has. Seen him many times, never disappoints
Micheal WAS Queensryche. He did the mo s t amazing rifts and classical undertones in the ballads. Jeff was one of the most versatile vocalists in the world because of his low tones that would suddenly gp into these high notes however, Micheal is the one that made them. No more to say. Love this channel.

The title of the video is "QUEENSRYCHE Michael Wilton talks MINDCRIME" - But as soon as he starts to talk about Mindcrime, the video ends... 95% of this video is talk about what lead to Mindcrime.
IMO Rage For Order is Queensryche's best album.
The warnings my favorite albums still have it.have a drink for me.
I know this is wishfull thinking but ffs sort it out guys.
ok his hair stuck in his beard is driving me crazy.
Huge fan brother
These are fantastic! Keep them coming! Longer interviews too.
Remember when they did Rock in Rio. Holy Shit, that was epic!
Mindcrime...OMG... One of the best albums ever!!!
queensryche great band totally underated
Rage for Order was a game changer even though metalheads didn’t get it. I did.
One of my favorite bands! Miss the old queensryche for sure. Thank you for this
Mindcrime is one of my top 5 albums of all time. But, I've been relistening to Rage and Warning recently and I have to say I like them better than Mindcrime at the moment. Great interview. Keep up the great work.
OMG QR opened up for Zebra!?!?!
Had to laugh when Michael said MTV started in 88/89. MTV launched in 1981. In fact, the extremely ironic, very first song MTV played, was The Buggles' hit *Video Killed The Radio Star.* Otherwise, great interview with Michael.
I am sure he means that's when MTV “started” for them….
Well...Wilton got what he wanted...he bustled Degarmo and Tate out of the group and now reigns over a mediocre bar band. That's what happens when you're jealous of the songwriters in the band and feel like your only choice is to sever yourself from career and prestige and respect. What a shmuck.
lol pretty sure that's not what happened...
Had a roommate that was OBSESSED with Queensryche.
I saw you guys with geoff on the empire tour with suicidal best fkn concert I've ever seen to this day
*Geoff*
Operation Mindcrime...one of the best concept albums of all time.
Awesome interview!
Skipped Rage for Order. Their best album.
Mindcrime is the greatest of all time
What a nice cool guy
How about an interview w Degarmo?
That would be cool, but he's been purposely out of the pubic eye for like 25 years. One can dream tho. :)
I saw Queensryche with Kiss in Columbus Ohio the warning tour I thought they were much better than kiss
That's because kiss sucks
,,,,so cool.......remember those years,,,,,,great story told..........wow..first years hearing this band,I was instantly a fan,,,,,......and then..........EMPIRE....!.........................great memories made with Queensryche in the background...
I have a guitar pic of yours I caught at Greensboro when you toured with Ozzy ! It has your name on one side and Queensryche on the other side ! In the 80's
Michael "Whip" Wilton yeah!
Wow! ZEBRA!!!!!! 🦓 Love Guy , Randy & Felix!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
This was cool, but are these going to be actual complete interviews or just sound bytes?
THE WHIP reigns supreme in the order of her majesty the QueensRyche....
This band taught me to think constructively. One of the many reasons Gen X’rs are so self sufficient.I used to be somewhere else when Mindcrime was on my Walkman .It really is too bad the dynamics in your group changed, what an experience live
OP:MC remains, to this day, the best metal concept album of all time! Nothing even comes close, IMO.
Saw the Queensryche/Metallica show at the Richfield Coliseum in '88. Just awesome....
I don't remember anything.............. I just remember what they told me... told me.... told me.....
ROCK N ROLL VETERAN, Right There !! Much respect to a Rock musician who has toured/worked and written as much as someone like Michael has. Seen him many times, never disappoints
Rage for Order; derivative??? That album set a NEW standard as far as I'm concerned!!!
amazing band and amazing musicians. Thanks for this!!
Great band. Operation Mind Crime is one of my all time faves. I listen to it frequently to this day, it never gets old.
Cheers 😊
Metallica And Justice…..Queensryche Mindcrime tour fucking awesome!
Micheal WAS Queensryche. He did the mo s t amazing rifts and classical undertones in the ballads. Jeff was one of the most versatile vocalists in the world because of his low tones that would suddenly gp into these high notes however, Micheal is the one that made them. No more to say. Love this channel.
chris degarmo was just as important to QR if not more than Wilton in my view
@@safelyanonymous5717 Love them both, together was just magic.
DeGarmo was the main man, watch mtv unplugged 1992 blatantly obviousl
